So far so good. I bought this to replace another HP printer that I have.
Hook up and connection was very simple. Its prints very fast.
Doesn't take up too much space and does what I need it to do.
I also like that I can scan from the App as well as check progress.
Also the Insta Ink is optional which I love too

The HP4200e series is HP’s new line of printers. HP being the pioneer in inkjet technology, it comes to no surprise that HP often comes uo with newer models every year. But truth be told, inkjet printers have been around for several decades and one would wonder why should one consider this model.
First, is that the HP 4200e series is very compact. It has a modern looking (with curves) design which is a step away from the boxy designs such as the HP 8030 series it had prior to this release. To further make it a compact printer, HP has designed the back sheet feeder to be foldable as well as the front paper tray so that over all the footprint of this printer is compact as much as possible. There is a downside to this unfortunately as the back sheet feeder can accommodate only up to 60 pages I believe and as compared to up to 150 pages with other models. But do note that the HP4200e series is aimed at home and student users which in my opinion is sufficient for most uses.
One thing I like about this printer is that its scanner has an automated sheet feeder. For some this may not be that important and that a flatbed scanner would suffice, but for me an automatic sheet feeder is crucial as I convert a lot of documents into PDF format. But for those who don’t do a lot of scanning HP also a model without an automatic sheet feeder. And being a printer intended for general home use, this printer no longer has fax functions.
And like most printers, this printer is wi-fi enabled. And though you can still connect this printer via USB cable, it is no longer encouraged by HP as can be seen that the USB port is covered with tape. But the main advantage of having wi-fi is that this printer is HP Instant Ink. But unlike other printer brands, HP actually sends you the ink cartridges. Other brands just give you an alert when ink is low and you have to pick it up yourself.
And lastly, since this printer is intended for home and student use, printer speed is not quite fast at 8.5 ppm. I would have wished this was faster but other than that, this is a fine multi function printer. I would highly recommend this.

A very good, economical printer for light printing

Printers have not always been my favorite topic, even as a computer guy I see them as mostly an ends to a means. Having a great printer is never anything you usually hear anyone say anything about. I've had a lot of luck with HP through the years and, contrary to what some may think, the HP Ink is really a great value for most of us. One could argue the economic impact of it but I believe if you value your time, as most of us do, then it's a no-brainer that you should want to use HP Ink. For those of you who aren't aware, HP Ink is a subscription service that starts at $1.99 a month for light printing, then there are various tiers depending upon how much you print. I know it doesn't sound very good, but having had it, and used it for several years, I can tell you it's a great program that will save you a lot of time and money. Be aware that, for this printer, it is a requirement as well.
Setting up the printer was not easy. However, I believe it was made difficult for me more so due to the fact that I had an older HP printer and had to decommission it on HP Ink before registering the new one. Do note that you really should look at the instructions before you just scan the barcode and start setting it all up. Companies are sort of training us to just do it all on our phone but do read the instructions in the box (quick start) and you'll find your time is cut down considerably.
Prior to receiving this printer I had read some reviews and many reviews seemed to indicate that the actual printouts from this printer were incredibly poor and fuzzy looking. I did not have this experience, as so far, all of my print outs have been done really well and look startingly good for a printer considered to be a value printer. I have attached a few pictures for you to see for yourself. These are all at default printer settings.
I must also say that I did not have any issues with papers printing and then falling to the floor. I suspect whomever said this was not aware of how to properly extend the tray branches, which it has one on each side. Once this is done I've printed multiple pages and none have fell out of the printers casing where it prints to.
I'm very happy with this printer. I did have to deduct a star for the sloppy setup, which was made difficult by already having an HP printer, when it should be made easier I think if you already have an HP account. Once I got that out of the way the printer has been pretty good, without any issues at all and I'm quite happy with how it prints and how the print outs look. A great economical printer for users who want to spend less time, money and worry about printing.

Printers have come a long way in the recent past. I recall waiting for a the printer to "warm up" for what seemed like an eternity. This is not the case anymore. This printers boils down into 3 areas of focus which either need improvement or are out of this park in terms of performance: build, response rate, and long term cost.
The build of this printer is a little on the frail side, I understand that printers are everchanging and there needs to be gives and takes but from what I am experiencing this build is a tad thin or flimsy side. When setting it up I was very hesitant that I was going to crack some of the trays or the outer shell. With that said, nothing ever broke but it does have a "too thin" feel to it. On the benefit side it is light weight... so, a give for a take.
On the response rate side, it seems like this printer is ready to go on a moments notice, even for a Deskjet. And, with paired with the companion app, items can easily be printed without the rigmarole of copy and pasting. The wifi connection of this item also adds the the speed of click to print time, no need to get onto a hard-wired device to print anymore either. All of these items as described, although only reduce seconds to the printing experience do in fact speed up the process ten fold.
Lastly, cost always comes to mind. Firstly, this printer is made of 60% recycled materials, which is technically a cost savings to the planet, but I digress. The ink usage efficiency is top notch, when printing color or B&W. It is noted that a 50% ink savings can be attained when using HP's ink subscription service too. Pairing all of this with its energy savings mode is a recipe to max savings across many different spectrums.
All in all, if you are looking for a light weight, eco-friendly, efficient printer that has a quick "click to print" speed, then this is a great option for you.

The HP-Deskjet4255e is perfect for home use. It is easy to move from place-to-place and is not overly complicated to use. This is the second HP-Deskjet I have purchased. The first one worked well for four years. The price is quite affordable for the average household. The only reason I did not give it 5 stars was due to the difficulty connecting it to my Wi-Fi.

Printer works fine once it was setup. Price is good. Functionality good. Customer support not so much. When I purchased the printer, I asked specifically if it worked wirelessly with a ChromeBook and the salesperson answered Yes. I called the Geek squad twice for help and was unable to get it hooked up wirelessly. I called HP.123.com twice and was unable to get it hooked up wirelessly. Turns out, when I used a Windows 11 laptop and hardwired to the printer I was able to set the printer up on the wireless network. The wireless router was an Eero and the printer had no problem distinguishing bet3ween the 2.4 GHZ and 5 GHz from the router so the setup was easy. Please train the salespeople or at least hire ones that have enough wherewithal to look at the online documentation and determine whether something will actually function as the customer requires. None of my contacts ever resulted in anyone looking that deep to determine whether you can actually use a ChromeBook to set up the printer and I was never asked any specifics regarding the ChromeBook. Problem solved so it should function fine for quite a while, but a tremendous waste of time solving a problem that should be no more complicated than tying your shoes.

I was given a printer last year, which was too difficult for an elderly nonagenarian to use. I bought the HP-Deskjet 4255e Printer, the 3rd HP printer I opted for since 1989. Easy instructions. HP printers make good copies and will always be my choice of brand.

Good quality HP printing & easy to use. Easy to hook up to WiFi and it maintains the info when you shut the unit off. The Epson WF-2930 that I had bought lost the WiFi info if you turned it off and the procedure to connect WiFi was a real pain. After minimum usage the Epson just burned out on me. I'm happy with my new HP printer, and I've had HP's in the past & will stay with HP in the future.

This is a beautiful printer. But beauty doesn't get tasks done. It's funny that something so large, has very little space for paper. It works really well with the HP Smart app and a wifi connection. I am not crazy about having to get the app on everything I want to print from, but i guess it does keep my printer secure . The instant feeder works great for scanning documents. It's probably my favorite feature as it is rather instantaneous. The control panel works easily enough. Everything is simple enough to understand, even for kids. I still have a huge problem with only having a 60 page paper feeding tray. As far as printing goes. I think is one of the slowest printers I've used in a couple of years. One document can take up to 30 seconds to print. That's really too long. However, the print quality is really nice, but i would also assume the amount of ink needed to complete that task is ungodly. I guess that's a good reason to sign up for free instant ink trial. So you can test the waters of ink consumption. Honestly, i would just say to go but some ink. This isn't small business worthy and it's almost too bulky and slow for a productive home office. If you're not in a rush to get job done or are just in need of backup printer for the student in your life, this'll do.
