I ended up returning due to how much the airfryer sticks out. Overall, it was really good quality as one would expect from any Ninja product!

We were very excited to get this new double stacked air fryer to replace a regular air fryer. I’m not sure if it’s the double stack feature or not but we’re having trouble with the food heating up properly. It seems the back of the basket the food cooks fine but the front of the basket the food is cold and not cooking so it’s like it’s not circulating the air properly or something. We’re working on getting a return and a refund, but we’re outside of the return. So it’s becoming difficult. Definitely will not exchange this item. We will buy a single basket air fryer.

I already have a Ninja air-fryer (Pro 6XL) which is used regularly, and is fantastic. Often I wish to cook 2 items, so thought the DoubleStack XL would be the perfect solution - compact, with good capacity.
Unfortunately, now I've been using the DoubleStack for 10 days it clearly isn't as versatile as the Pro 6XL; the cooking time is much longer (almost twice as long) and the machine is noisy! Sadly, I'll be returning the DoubleStack to opt for the less elegant second Pro 6XL on my countertop.

I picked this item up to replace my old 8 quart unit that just quit working. I use air fryers a lot and have a 5 and 6 quart model, but when cooking for my family if 4, the 8 quart was used a lot more. This unit combined has 10 quarts, so a fair replacement. I really like the dual zone that I can cook at two Temps for 2 different times, or I can actually use a feature button and have both units matched. The baskets are unique to me because they come with a rack that splits the height in half so you can cook a vegetable below and a meat on top. There is a small sheet included with ideas and pairings. The heat in these blows from the back and not from the top, but it seems to cook fairly evenly. It made Crisp fries and breaded items right the first time i used it (started simple). It is a bit of a learning curve on how long to do things with 2 layers in a basket, but all came out well. The times are not much different from my old 8 quart or my 5 quart. My 6 is a bit longer. This does not pause itself when you pull the basket out, you have to hit the pause button, an odd thing I'll have to grow used to. All my others stop.I have not ever used another dual bin one before to know how a side to side cook, but i imagine not much different than a standard single basket. This does not seem to be too different from my others. The footprint is unique, with the baskets stacked, so less width on my counter, depth is a bit deeper due to where the elements are, and the vent is to the side on the right, behind the control panel. This fits under my standard cabinets still very easily. The controls are easy enough to use, different to me because my other fryers before this did not have multiple settings like reheat, bake, it was just airfry. There are 6 on this (airfry, air broil, bake, roast, reheat, and dehydrate). You have an extra step of select cook type, then select temp and time I have used the bake for warming some garlic bread, and did airfry for chicken and fries, and reheat for pizza recently, all came out good and even. I like the racks that come with this. It allows me to either do two things on separate levels (usually veggie below, meat above), but what i’ve done is use meat in one basket, veggie in other. The racks are easy in and out with the handles, and securely sit in the basket notches. I had to use after market in my old large one and it was easy enough, but this is better. Cost wise, this is comparable to like models. I do reccomend this and really have nothing to deduct any stars from it.

Space Saving DoubleStack

The Ninja brand has done it again. Air Fryers have been quite the rage of the past few years and both myself and wife have religiously used our Air Fryer for multiple tasks from main dishes, side dishes, reheating foods, crisping that ever so not crisped item and more. We have been using Ninja brand for Air Fryer since the double bucket Foodi came out with complete satisfaction, the only downfall really being the amount of counter space it would take up. This is why I went for the DoubleStack XL and overall definitely satisfied.
The DoubleStack XL takes up about 1 foot of counter space width wise while providing a significant amount of 10 Quarts of cooking space. There are two buckets, stacked on top of each other (hence DoubleStack). The buckets slide in and out easily; however, have to be mindful when pulling out the top bucket that if pull too far will tilt/come out downwards. Just an adjustment when used to both buckets being at counter level. There are metal racks that allow you to stack within the buckets. This can allow for division of food from top and bottom of one bucket. If needed, could cook 4 foods at two different temperatures with this feature.
The heating elements are located toward the back and appear to push air forward into the buckets for circulation. I had seen a couple reviews prior to getting the Air Fryer that there were parts of the food which did not get cooked through. Since using the DoubleStack, I tend to take out the bucket and shake it some to move around the food and with this action have had no issues with thorough cooking. You are able to have the different cook style per basket along with temperature setting and time. There is a setting to allow for timing of both buckets completing at the same time, but I have not found that to be of benefit for myself (others may enjoy finishing up that meal exactly). The control panel being off of the side is a bit weird though, as it adds to the overall dimentions without adding cook space. I do feel as if the design made it limited as you would not want to take up more height necessarily, but the panel itself seems out of place.
Ultimately, the DoubleStack XL allows for the Air Frying technology that I have come to love with a condensed space saving design. That is the most impressive/important feature of the DoubleStack. When kitchen counter space is limited in most homes, this allows for a countertop Air Fryer that is not taking up the whole counter.

Review for
Ninja® DoubleStack™ XL 2 Basket Multi Rack Air Fryer -
We’ve been using a family-sized, extra-large air fryer for so many years, I didn’t think you could find one that would hold as much food but not take as much counter space. This Ninja model is an improvement over the double-drawer, side-by-side models that let you do so much, but sacrifice valuable counter area.
Having tried a number of air fryers over the years, I thought I had settled on our extra-large one, but I’m very impressed with this model’s design. It lets you cook two baskets of the same food to feed a huge crowd, or two entirely different meals, if you have, for example, fussy kids. Imagine salmon and brussel sprouts in one basket and chicken nuggets and fries in the other. Each basket has a non-stick crisper tray that holds the food up slightly so that the circulating hot air can go over and under the food plus a metal rack that sits above the food on the crisper tray to hold even more food.
The controls are pretty straightforward, although it’s important to read the manual to see how the two baskets can be used together or separately. You can set the time and temperature for each basket and then use Smart Finish to have them both finish at the same time, or you can load both baskets with the same cooking needs and use Match Cook to have them both share the settings without having to set each basket individually.
Cleanup of the trays and baskets is easier than my old unit and the non-stick coating on the crisper trays and baskets is excellent.
Two notes, if you’re planning how this fits in your kitchen and lifestyle: the controls are on the right and may be inconvenient for left handed people and the exhaust vents for the unit are also on the right. So, although it may fit nicely on your counter, even under overhead cabinets, you have to leave room on the right for the unit to exhaust properly.
Finally, and this may seem petty (no pun intended) but the audio signal does NOT send my dog into fits, like some other models I have owned.

This is everything I wanted in an Air Fryer, the dual areas with a rack in each which means I can cook with 4 layers is perfect. I cooked two layers of chicken nuggets for the kids and then below I cooked 2 layers of mozzarella cheese sticks for everyone. Then another time I did mini potatoes below with chicken nuggets above. The air fryer sees a lot of chicken nuggets. There is a book that comes with it that gives a ton of suggestions on what time and degree to cook several different meats at which has come in handy. Personally, I love air fryers as fries, nuggets, and other traditionally fried items just don’t taste the same from the microwave and the oven takes too long. The Air fryer is medium fast and much better tasting, it’s crisp. The dehydrator is something that I am excited to try more, it made some good apple chips, but I haven’t gotten to try jerky yet. It is also easy to clean.
I love the usability of the interface. Select which device, choose which took type (air fry, dehydrate, etc), click temp and set, click time and set, and then press start and your done. The match cook is a cool feature if you are cooking all the same thing (like a ton of nuggets) that saves 30 seconds. The smart finish is really nice if you cooking two different things that you want finished at the same time.
Overall, I am really impressed with the usability, capacity, and functionality of this air fryer. I can’t think of anything that I don’t like about it.

Excellent Fryer That Is Well Built

The Ninja DoubleStack XL is a fantastic air fryer. I have never used a dual basket fryer but immediately love this device.
Design
First, this is an all metal design. No real plastic on it. It's built very well and the space saving feature is a great addition. Both drawers hold a great deal of food. The racks are very nice as well.
Function
One of the best features is you can set separate times for each basket with different temperature settings. I have cooked fries to perfect crispiness in one basked and chicken patties in the second basket. In a single basket fryer it was hard to get both to cook right since it was time and temp for one or the other.
The other item that is a nice addition is a cooling function. Once done cooking the basket will be cooled a bit to protect from burns. The food is not affected by the cooling.
Cleaning
The baskets and racks fully dishwasher safe. The unit itself is designed as to not pick up fingerprints so cleaning the unit is very simple.
Overall I am very happy with this fryer. I would recommend it to anyone looking for a quality fyer.

A nicely thought out Air Fryer

This Ninja Double Stack XL 2-basket air fryer replaces an older air fryer (different manufacturer) that I had been using for a couple of years now. I primarily used my old air fryer to cook steaks, very rarely cooking veggies or any other protein dishes. So, I was naturally concerned about this Ninja Double Stack’s ability to cook steaks to my liking. While I did use the old air fryer to cook potato fries and other veggies when needed, I didn’t like how I was limited to cooking only one item at a time. This Ninja Double Stack air fryer, in contrast, can cook four items concurrently. What a difference.
Size-wise, this 2-basket fryer is 15.4” tall, 19.22” deep, and has a width of 11.25”. These dimensions make the unit much easier to lift and move around compared to the larger and heavier older unit.
Some specs on this unit:
• Model: SL401
• Wattage: 1,690W
• Some components are dishwasher safe, while others should/must be hand washed
• Each of the two baskets has a capacity of 5 quarts
• Cooking functions include: Air Fryer, Roasting, dehydrate, Broil, Bake, Reheat
I mentioned cooking steaks with my older unit. In contrast to this Ninja air fryer, the old unit required you to pre-heat the cooking area prior to starting any cooking process. Thus, five minutes of waiting around until the old fryer was sufficiently pre-heated. Once it was sufficiently pre-heated, the steak would cook for 10 minutes at 500 degrees.
This new Ninja Double Stack unit doesn’t have the pre-heating requirement. Steaks now take 15 minutes at 390 degrees. Pause the cooking halfway to flip the steak and add additional seasoning. The resulting steak was very tasty! Not undercooked, not overcooked.
Each of this air fryer’s two baskets come with a crisper plate and a meal rack. In a standard configuration, baskets will locate the crisper at the bottom and the meal rack at the top. For cooking the steak, the manual recommends removing the meal rack and placing the crisper in the top slot. Not all protein recipes suggest this configuration, but many do.
As with most air fryers, the instructions suggest shaking the baskets when cooking veggies to ensure that the veggies are evenly cooked. This dual basket system is no different in that regard.
Cooking veggies on the crisper or the meal rack is generally dictated by how hearty the veggie is. Potatoes, broccoli, and other more hearty items would be cooked on the crisper while more delicate items like green beans and asparagus will go on the upper rack.
Cooking times also vary depending on what item you’re cooking. Heartier items like broccoli will cook for between 45-50 minutes, while the green beans (more delicate) will cook 35-40 minutes.
This Ninja Double Stack unit has a couple of interesting features I should mention. Let’s start with the Double Stack Pro button. By selecting this button, you’re letting the unit know that you plan on using both baskets to cook food. After selecting basket #1 and programming it for time and temperature, you can use the Match Cook button to instruct basket #2 to use the same time and temperature parameters. This saves time on your part, but only if the items in basket #2 are intended to cook at the same time and temperature as basket #1.
Then there’s the Smart Finish button. I used this one when cooking veggies in basket #2 while cooking the steak in basket #1. As previously mentioned, the steak cooked for 15 minutes at 390 degrees. The veggies in basket #2 will cook longer and at a different temperature. By selecting the Smart Finish button, the Ninja started cooking the veggies first, then kicked off cooking the steak in basket #1 when then veggies were about 15 minutes from completion. This allowed the steak and the veggies to finish cooking at the same time.
All in all, I like this unit. It is easy to move around, has tons of features, and thus far has done a really good job of cooking my food. I’m giving it a rating of 5 stars.

Versatile cooking for this novice

This is my new favorite kitchen device. I have been into air frying for some time now, and our recent air fryer is great but we can only really cook one item at a time. With this Ninja DoubleStack XL, we can cook up to four different items at the same time. I love the double stacked look as it does save space in our small kitchen.
The control panel is very simple to use. The display gives you which tray you want to use (One or Two), as well as six different cooking styles. The Temp and Time knob is easily adjustable, and if you want to use the Double Stack, the options are there for additional adjustments. Also, the best feature is the Smart/Match Cook features.
Even though it is a double stack, my initial thoughts were if you are cooking two items in the same tray, it has to be the same settings. I was wrong. The air flow is designed for the double stack with either a Smart Finish feature where you can control cooking two foods with two ways, or the Match Cook feature which mimics the settings for all of it. I love that my foods come out crispy and cooked all the way through. So I did try putting a whole chicken (which they state a 5lb bird can fit), so it's a Cornish Hen basically. It did slightly burn the top because of the size of the bird, but it was cooked all the way through. I also did put sweet potato fries and asparagus in the other tray using the basket and it cooked them really well.
Cleaning is a breeze as very efficient. as it is non-stick and dishwasher safe. I don't use the dishwasher, but washing in the sink is effortless.
As a novice cook, this really helped and elevated the amount of food and reduced my time. Cooking multiple items at the same time was once daunting and took too long, but now, this really helped lower that time and bring more food to my plates faster.

Most efficient ever!

This is probably the most efficient piece of appliance I ever had.
Every so often, we heat up pizza, fish sticks, fried / rotisserie chicken, fries, calamari, fish, and almost any leftover. There are so many advantages of this air fryer versus our current “all-in-one air fryer:
1) This air fryer ONLY USES THE SPACE WE NEED. In our old one, you heat the whole thing up, and use probably max 70% of the tray. With this air fryer, I can opt to only use one tray.
2) Because we only use what we need, it is very ENERGY EFFICIENT. It does not draw up too much power that I can use it alongside my microwave. Before I cannot use my previous air fryer with the microwave at the same time.
3) I want to mention the SPACE it saved. It reduced the size of my current air fryer by almost half, and this doublestack air fryer still does what we usually use the air fryer for. It takes up the same height but the least width. And it still does the job for us—a family of 6 at less time.
4) I can cook TWO TOTALLY DIFFERENT dishes at the SAME TIME. I know I have a microwave as well, but this appliance makes me focus on what I need to do by doing it all on one machine, and I can easily time it too. Plus, the size on each tray is deceiving-- they actually hold a lot.
5) Moms, please pay attention. This one is VERY EASY TO CLEAN. I have not found an air fryer that is easy to clean. The grill, the tray, the under tray—this one, has components that are easy to detach, clean and run in the sink!
6)It LOOKS GOOD on the counter. It saves space and it looks good—I think it’s a no-brainer.
I don't think I have any con to mention with this appliance. Ninja has come way far from when it started making powerful blenders. Now they are making efficient air fryers too. I think this one should be a home requirement.
