We have one of these systems in our Den which sounds awesome, it's about 3 years old, still kicking no issues...I already know I love it but, ya still gotta check out the competition when purchasing anything new. The compact shelf system in our kitchen "kinda" died (not this brand) and after looking at the higher-priced Sony model I mean, we spend a lot of time hanging out in the Kitchen around the island so I wanted it to look nice and sound great. After reading the reviews we decided on this system again. It is awesome and the price, the quality, it's a no-brainer...we love it, looks great, sounds great, blends in and is ALWAYS on, day and night...at night we lower the volume to about 2-3. Can't beat it for the price and the quality!

I really like the sound quality and ease of use. Fits nicely in smaller places. Bluetooth works great up to about 40 feet. Great buy, I will definitely get another if they come up on the deal of the day again.

Good for playing CDs, Not mp3s flash drives.

This is a decent sound system for the price. It's quite small and looks nice, so it sits nicely on a shelf. Set-up was quick and easy. I did have to return mine because it didn't quite fit my needs though (see below). I'm not a music expert so I'll try to describe the sound in layman's terms. The sound is surprisingly good for such small speakers. But the higher end is a bit distant and metallic. So the bass sounds good but the vocals could be more up close. Why does EVERY sound system out there sacrifice everything to the almighty bass? You can turn up the top and tone down the bass but it doesn't really make the top sharper. Overall it's really not bad. There are several settings for different kinds of music, but they are all totally awful, just leave the setting on normal and it's fine. Still, for the price, the speakers are good and do fill up a bedroom or a small to average living room quite well. I found them definitely loud enough for 95% of CDs. Some early CDs were way too compressed and will not sound right or loud enough on any system. I thought this system might provide an elegant solution with its flash drive port but... I have over 900 CDs and ripped everything at 320 kbps, amounting to about 105g. Obviously no phone can hold all that, and only the ipod classic can store that, although I dodge the ridiculously over-hyped and over-priced Apple like a plague. I don't want to bother with putting some things on a phone and having to unplug and swap that for another device or inserting CDs, and repeat. What options do people with a lot of music have these days? What I wanted to do was get a 128g flash drive and plug it into this system, which has a port right in front, and be able to quickly access all my music at once without importing to an app or anything in between. Which leads me to the one big flaw with this system: Yes it plays off flash drives, BUT, it doesn't recognize your folder structure: so for example if you put 10 albums on it, each with 9 songs, it sees tracks 1-90. And it ONLY displays the current track. So if you want to play track 8 from album 6, you just have to skip forward until you reach it. You can enter track "65" on the remote control, but again you can't SEE any track titles until they are playing. So you can imagine having 900+ CDs on a flash drive would be completely ridiculous. I realize that this port is for phones or mp3 players with their own displays and touch screens, but again they don't hold enough and I don't want an ipod or iphone. I can also plug in my laptop to the headphone port, but I don't want to have to turn on a laptop to listen to a speaker system, and it sounds much worse that way. Also it does not recognize external drives, but it does recognize flash drives. I would give this 4.5 stars if I could, subtracting one half for speakers that are decent but not quite excellent, but the big oversight of not having a searchable display makes me knock it down a bit further to a 4. So in summary, if you want just a CD player this is good (and it DOES play mp3 discs.) If you have a small amount of music on your phone or mp3 player and you want to plug it in here and control it from your other device this is also good. If you want to make any sense of your own stored music and folder structure that you've ripped and saved yourself this will not work. I don't know what people are doing these days to simply play a lot of music off one source.

Bought this for my parents who needed a small stereo system for a room tight on space. Of all the gifts I purchased this past Christmas, this has to be my biggest surprise. Better yet, I was shocked at how this little system sounded once set up. Just awesome, full sound for such small speakers. And simple enough that they can easily use the basic features (no syncing phones and such for them). Hooked up a new turntable with no problems, and even an old cassette player. Just an awesome little system that I'll be purchasing again for myself.

It is a great looking system and has a terrific sound for the price. The highs as well as the lows sound nice and crisp and clear. It fits in a fairly small space and the remote makes it really easy to access from across the room. It plays music from memory cards very well except like someone else said, if you have many songs on a memory card, you can not pick and choose where it will start from. What this means is that every time you start to play your memory card it will start from song # 1 and work its' way through to the end which in some cases to hear all of the songs you could be looking at a couple of days of continuous playing to hear all of your songs on that one memory card, if you have up in the hundreds on one memory card as I do. Other then that I definitely would recommend this mini shelf stereo system. It also plays CDs burnt to disk from your computer which makes it really a nice system. I would like to add that I was amazed at how many FM radio stations this unit will receive when you hook up the FM Antenna supplied with this system.

Am very pleased with the sound quality with deep bass, and it's really well more than what I've expected. I have a Bose bluetooth speaker and this Insignia stereo system actually sounds like Bose. It even has added features. A great buy!

I was looking to replace our current bookshelf speaker system, and wanted something that connected to Bluetooth (for playing from iPad as well as Echo Dot), had radio tuner, and also could play CD's. That was a particularly hard combination to find. This was the last of this system on the shelf, and after hooking it up we have been very pleased. It has surprisingly clear sound, and connects seamlessly with our bluetooth devices. Small footprint, but a lot of volume. I'm sure I'll explore the Sonos-type whole home systems in the future, but for $100 this was a steal.

I'm very happy with this miniature size stereo. The speakers sound good for the price. Takes up very little room. You can crank it up loud and it stays pretty darn clean. The radio receiver picks up stations great in my shop with the little wire antenna that come with it. CD's sound really good. I give it 5 stars because for the price you can't beat it. It's stupid cheap. Yes some of the stereos this size sound much better but they are 5 times the price. Don't be scared. Get one.

This is the second Insignia Compact Shelf System we have purchases. Originally we had purchased one for our daughter to hook a turntable up to. We liked the compact size and the quality of the sound was great. We purchased this one for my mother who wants to be able to play CDs and needs something simple to use. Only negative is she wanted to be able to listen to AM radio; this unit only plays FM Radio stations.

It's ok, for the price. A little surprised that it doesn't have AM. I thought it did because if you look at the specs for this unit on the Best Buy site it says FM 30 presets and right under it it says AM 30 presets. I will admit a few lines down it does say FM only which I didn't see when I was looking at the specs... But.. It's not a deal breaker but I don't see with the blue tooth and aux input and usb input that they couldn't just throw AM in the mix as well. Bad quality control somewhere. They must have copied and pasted the specs from another model. But, again, it's very good for the price. Would still buy it even without the AM.

I bought this for my daughter's room. I needed a decent system that was conventional in style and more importantly a compact size. This one fits the bill perfectly. The sound is very good for a system of this size and easily fills an average sized room with sound. Bass levels are pretty good considering the small sized speakers. Mids and highs also good. Just remember it's a compact system so don't expect ear shattering levels. The FM tuner is OK at best but that could be my area. It works and gets the stations my daughter listens to and that's all that matters. The cd player works as it should. I like that the system also has bluetooth and can play off a USB thumb drive. Although I haven't used them except to make sure they worked, which they did. Overall a nice solid little stereo system .

I purchased this for my don's 12th birthday. I like that it has the ability to play CD's and music off a USB stick. The sound is good and more than loud enough for a small to medium sized bedroom. My son loves that it has a remote control and plays CD-R's. Also fit's well on his book shelf!

I really wanted a small stereo for my bedroom. Bluetooth and decent sound was all i really wanted. I almost bought a sound bar because most small system are expensive and the sound bar was on sale. I was pleasantly surprised to see this was on sale. The system itself is small in size and looks pretty good. The receiver does feel like cheap plastic and the speakers have ugly grayish rubber feat that stick out. Aside from that sitting on my dresser it looks fine. The sounds is powerful and fills the room. At full blast the sound does not get distorted and overall sounds great. Bluetooth is very simple to stream too and only took a moment to get it connect to my phone. Overall a nice system with a low cost.

Bought this for my son to use in his bedroom. Small speakers sound surprisingly good. Many features on the unit and setup was so easy - even the bluetooth syncing with his phone. I also used the AUX plugin for his record player and the vinyls sound great. Wouldn't recommend for a large area but for a bedroom or dorm room, you can't beat it. Had looked at a similar unity by Sony but this one sounded better in the store and was almost half the price.

I purchased this radio mostly based on price. I wanted a radio that could connect via Bluetooth but also play CD's. Most of my music is stored in iTunes but at my office It's nice to have the freedom of playing a CD and not having to worry about commercials or connecting my phone or computer to the device. It's small, but it produces quality clear sound. If you are looking for an inexpensive radio for your office or room in your home then I would say this radio is a good choice. All of the functions work as they should, no complaints.

This is a great audio system. The sound quality is excellent for both the CD and radio. The speaker wires are about 6' long, long enough to separate them for good stereo. I eapecially like the bluetooth feature so i can listen to Pandora from my phone. The remote control is the right size to not get lost. It would be nice to have front buttons to select features such as bluetooth, tune, preset stations, but the remote is ok for that. We're thinking about buying again for another room
