I'm a rank amateur with too much camera for my own good but the filter in a gymnasium setting seemed to bring out much sharper colors.

Cut down on Reflections in your pictures

If you ever wondered how people are able to take pictures through a glass tank or display like at a zoo, or take beach/lake landscapes during the day without having the water be a "mirror" for the sun, and the sky being so bright it ruins the image, this is exactly what you need! It works by rotating the ring (this is a MUST and is why the ring rotates) until the reflections are gone or minimized- there is only so much a CPL filter can do in general and this is of course a budget model as it could be in some cases 1/10 the cost of a "professional" filter. I am not a pro but i can say that this filter makes shots which would otherwise; have a blown out sky (too bright) or reflections on glass when im taking pictures through a window or something else, clear and much improved. It also works to bring down light such as bright clouds during the day time etc. so you can more better expose the picture and capture the whole scene and not just a small part of it (if you want to). I am using this on a beginner DSLR D3200 and am pretty satisfied especially at it's price point, i ALWAYS use it in daytime, at night it's only useful in a minority of situations for specific shots and effects. I included an image at a low resolution to be able to upload it however the effect of having the sky and water clear and the whole scene exposed relatively evenly shows the effect of the filter.

Hood Incompatible

This is a great filter, provided that you do not try to use a hood. If you look at how it is made, the filter has two parts, the lens: the lens and sort of a gripping ring with a knurled edge. The lens is free to rotate without unscrewing itself, which is a good thing.
Unfortunately, a hood cannot slide over the mounting ring with the raised edge on it. In order to use this filer with a hood you need to unscrew it from the lens, install the hood, and then reach inside of the hood and attempt to screw in the filter. Seeing how the filter itself is designed to freely rotate, and your fingers cannot possibly grip the rim of the mounting ring, it becomes difficult, but far from impossible to screw in the lens at least partway.
It's a great filter, provided you have no intention of using a hood. For the price, you cannot beat it. I just think making a filter with an outer diameter too large for a hood is a major oversight by the designers. Otherwise, I'd give it 5 Stars for performance value.

Good filter for the price

Overall this is a good filter for the price. It is not as of high quality glass as some of the professional brands (B+W, Hoya, etc, which is expected because of the price). But for someone starting out in photography, these are great ones to start with as they are cheap to replace if you happen to break/scratch one. the circular polarizer can give you that nice silky smooth water / calm water look (if you use it correctly--the filter spins on the end of the lens where you can adjust the density--darkness or lightness). I would recommend this for beginner photographers only. Intermeidate/pro photographers may want to look at other "pro" brands, like B+W and Hoya as these have better glass. But this is certainly a decent starter polarizer.

Very Good Filter, But .....

This CPL has one of the best price performance ratio. I can mount this filter, point my camera at a large flat screen TV, and turn the lens until the TV screen goes completely black. But, I do have one major issue, though.
The knurled edge of the portion of the filter that rotates sticks just enough so that I cannot mount my hood onto the lens when this filter installed. If I wish to use this filter with my hood, I have to first install the hood, and then try to reach inside and screw on this filter. Not good. Designers should have easily foreseen this issue.
Overall, without that raised edge on the knurling, I would give this lens 5 stars. If you do not use a hood, then my issue is moot for you. If you do use a hood, prepare yourself to be slightly inconvenienced.

I read these are made by Hoya. I went to look at them as I was on vacation and forgot my expensive Cokin System at home. I asked if they could provide me with specs at Best Buy. They called around for about 30 minutes. When the Manager came back, he stated "all I am allowed to tell you is that they are made by Hoya for Best Buy." I took pictures of raging rivers and large bodies of still water with a lot of sky background with good results. When I got home, I did compare them to older images. I couldn't tell the difference between this and my Cokin circular polarizing filter. A really great buy at $14.03 vs over $100.00 for the Cokin one.

Good protective case, screen fully covered. Easy to fit and remove if you find the need too. All controls, buttons and microSD slot easily accessible. Magnetic closure of flip cover makes sure it doesn't open and expose the screen when carrying. Flip cover folds over the back of the case to create a stand and the cover is held in place magnetically. Automatically shuts down and wakes up the tablet when it is closed and opened, a nice feature. Saves you having to hit buttons to do this. This item was on sale at approx $11.99 + tax + postage. A real bargain. No hesitation in recommending

I have been using the Insignia brand for quite a while now, and haven't been disappointed with anything I've purchased. These lens filters are about 1/3 of the price of competitive filters, and are suited for both professional and amateur use. They are well packaged, and well priced.

The maximum amount of light attenuation is approximately 1.75 stop; for best results, try not to stop down more than 1.25 stops.
Images will pop using this filter. Vivid color and will bring out highlights. Just a nice filter.

Good Polarizer for the price. Construction is a bit on the flimsy side but once on your lens, you should have no issues. Not sure about the durability for "on and off" functions. Time will tell.
