Customers are saying

Customers enjoy the large screen size and affordable price of the Acer 23.8" monitor. Positive feedback also highlights its ease of setup, smooth refresh rate for gaming, and clear picture quality. However, some users wish it included built-in speakers and more adjustable stand options. The lack of integrated sound is a recurring negative comment.

At first unboxing, The first thing I thought about is that I can see this being the perfect gaming monitor for those looking to go off to college. It's a decent 24" size, 16:9 aspect ratio, 1920x1080p resolution, minimal bezel, and has AMD Freesync. I say this is a good college monitor because it can be used on a smaller desk and be arm or wall mounted. Capable of doing all your school work done and then even have time to game afterwards. For HD 1080p gaming, this is well priced and feature packed. Depending on your GPU, you can get decent gameplay with this monitor and AMD Freesync. It handles some decent video settings on most mainstream FPS games like CS GO and MW Warzone. You can play for hours and with minimal screen tears and decent frame rates, you cannot complain at all. It doesn't come with audio but most budget gaming monitors don't come with it anyways. Besides, you would probably want a gaming headset anyways. Overall, it's a solid budget monitor that can handle anything from everyday tasks to HD gaming. Hook up your AMD GPU laptop and you can take advantage of AMD Freesync.

This Acer - KA242Y Ebi 23.8" IPS LED FreeSync Monitor has both digital (HDMI) and analog (VGA) connections. It comes with an HDMI cable. I use this with my desktop as a single monitor. I also use this as a second monitor with my laptop. I play a lot of different types of games on both my desktop and my laptop. This monitor is an entry level gaming monitor that has a lot of great features. The resolution is fantastic with 1920 x 1080 in Full HD. The colors are bright and clear. The blacks are have good depth. The contrast is good. The response time is good at 1ms, but there was a little delay when running one of my games in the highest graphics mode, but I never use that mode, as it takes up way to many system resources and puts a strain on my desktop. The refresh rate is pretty average and is good for lower budget gaming. A refresh rate of 75 Hz is the number of images, which in this case is 75, that refreshes in one second. This works for everyday computing and gaming. One of the pluses for this monitor is that it is anti glare. That is good because it reduces eye strain when gaming for long periods of time, like I do. Another thing that I like is that the monitor is adjustable horizontally and vertically. You can tilt it as you need to do. It’s wall mountable and it also includes a stand. The footprint for this monitor is fairly small, which is good in tight spaces like I have. This monitor features AMD FreeSync, which helps to eliminate the lag time between your computer and monitor by synchronizing the GPU and the monitor. I will say that when I played my high graphics games, I didn’t have any issues at all, except the one time that I put the game itself into high graphics mode, and when doing that the warning in the game came up that said it might impact performance, and it did, but only slightly. I would recommend this monitor to gamers of most levels.

Solid Entry Level Panel - Good Build Quality

The Acer KA242Y is a 24” IPS monitor with HDMI and VGA ports. This is a pretty basic monitor that won’t break the budget. Build Quality/Design Construction and build quality are pretty good. For a monitor hovering around the 100 dollar mark it has a good build. The stand is very basic and has a fixed height, but it allows the monitor to tilt (-5° to 15°). The stand is also detachable in case you want to use the 100x100 VESA mount pattern. The panel uses a 'frameless’ design. The bezel edge sits right at 2.5mm, but there is still a ~5mm black border around the image on the screen. This is very similar to my other frameless monitors which have around 7mm from the bezel edge to the start of the screen image. Panel quality looks good as well. It has a semi-matte finish that does fine with overhead lighting. I observed zero lines or stuck pixels fresh out of the box. I didn’t have to mess with the color calibration much to match my other Acer monitor I was pairing this with. The buttons for the monitor are located on the rear of the panel on the lower right side. There are 4 buttons stacked vertically with a 5th joystick-like button on the bottom. The top button is for power, the next two buttons are user-assignable hot keys, the 4th is for input switching between HDMI and VGA sources, and the joystick is for navigation and selection. The buttons are easy enough to use and navigate the OSD menus, but I honestly don’t care for this placement. On a single monitor setup it won’t be an issue but for 2+ monitors you will have access issues to the buttons. When another monitor is set to the right of this one I am unable to access the power button without standing up and reaching down over the top of the panel. This really wouldn’t be that big of an issue if the buttons were laid out horizontally instead of vertically. I can reach the joystick and the input button by reaching under the front, but I have trouble getting the next buttons. The power button is definitely out of reach for me. Screen Quality The panel itself provides a good picture. Its 250 nits brightness won’t blow you away, but it gets the job done. The panel is a 23.8” 1920 x 1080p FHD with a 100Hz refresh rate. The 250 nits means the lack of HDR support is a given (HDR start at 400 nits). The screen produces sharp enough detail that can be seen from a comfortable distance. Word documents and spreadsheets have good clarity along with other office productivity task. I used it for 3D modeling as well and the image displayed was more than good enough for that task. At 23.8” it has a pixel density 92.56ppi, which is a comfortable amount for this screen size and just above the threshold where you should consider going for a 1440p panel. Since this is an IPS panel the off angle viewing is quite good (178° for vertical and horizontal). Colors look to be fairly accurate, and only required some mild adjustment out of the box to have it match my other Acer gaming monitor. The color range is 72% NTSC which is roughly the same as 100% sRGB, which translates to a fairly wide color range and reproduction. More upmarket monitors move into the DCI-P3 color space, but for this price range 72% NTSC seems about right. For gaming the panel supports Freesync over its HDMI connection and has a 100Hz refresh rate. I have used 60, 75, 144, 165, 240, and 360Hz panels over the years and I have found that 75Hz is fine for most gaming but 144 is where games hit their stride from a visual smoothness. It is difficult to go back to 75Hz after experiencing 144+. However, this panel falls right in between at 100. First things first if you are looking to play very high framerate games then you likely want a panel that climbs up to 144Hz and beyond. But for games that don’t live and die by input delay – open world, RPG, platformer, and story driven games I don’t see the need for the super high refresh panel. These are games where framerates in the 80-90’s provide just as good of an experience. You won’t find the panel limiting you until you start exceeding 100FPS. I used a framerate locker to cap my frames at 100, and had Freesync turned on. I drove this monitor with an RTX 3070 on one machine and an AMD RX 580X on another. I didn’t experience any issues with frame tearing or artifacting with either GPU. I used the 3070 to drive higher visual games like Forza Horizon 5 and Halo Infinite, and keep the game near the 100FPS limit. With the 580X I played Portal 2, and Geometry Dash both of which can hit 100FPS on the 580X. Compared to a 75Hz display this is definitely an upgrade. The motion blur reduction isn’t as great from 75 to 100 vs 75 to 144, but its certainly there and a noticeable improvement. On Forza the scenery flying by has better clarity than my lower refresh panels, which is probably where is see the biggest visual improvement. On 100Hz the cursor movement is smoother than 75Hz, which shows up as your cursor flies around the screen. There is still some microstuttering jumps of the cursor position as you move quickly, but not nearly as pronounced as it is on lower refresh rates. The refresh rate at 100 is a 33% increase over 75Hz while the jump to 144 is a 92% increase. At the end of the day if you are using a 60 or 75Hz panel then the leap to 100 or 144 will show a visual improvement. Overall, this is a good entry level panel that can be used for a cheap gaming setup or for office/productivity work. The panel itself looks nice, and the build quality is great. There are a couple of areas that make this panel feel a little basic – having HDMI and VGA as the only inputs, and the fixed height stand. I would really like to have seen DisplayPort used as well as a basic height adjustable stand, but I understand there would be a price hike to include those. My only real gripe is the location of the buttons – its inconvenient for 2+ monitor setups or if you don’t have easy access on your desk to reach around the monitor.

      Dear Grimyin,

This KA series monitor does indeed support up to 100hz refresh rate. If you are not getting above 60hz this indicates the video card/GPU does not support this higher refresh rate. The following info is what this monitor supports:

      VGA:1920x1080@75Hz
      HDMI:1920x1080@100Hz
      DP:1920x1080@100Hz
If you want a higher refresh rate you will need to connect the monitor to a video card that supports this refresh rate.
We hope this clarifies and if you need help with your monitor, please feel free to contact our support team at 866-695-2237; they are available to assist 24/7 for in-warranty products.

The Acer KA242Y Ebi 23.8” IPS LED FreeSync Monitor is a really nice budget monitor. With just a few minor adjustments to the default settings it has a bright sharp picture. The 100 Hz refresh rate (or even better the FreeSync capabilities if your system supports it) make this monitor great for gaming, work, or casual web browsing. What’s in the box: Monitor HDMI cable Power cable Base and Stand Paper User guide I tested this monitor on a barebones desktop and attached to an Alienware laptop. The advanced graphics card in the laptop enabled beautiful sharp vibrant graphics with no adjustments. To get similar results with the desktop, I increased the contrast and color enhancement slightly. Note that all testing was done using the HDMI connection. The monitor also has a VGA port if you need one. I loaded up a few games and did not detect any visual anomalies. No streaking or tearing on the images. I also used some utilities and found that the monitor is HDCP-capable, but HDR and WCG are not supported. While a similar model comes with an audio port. This one only has one HDMI and one VGA port, there is no audio port. The base is stable, no wiggly monitor when someone walks by. However, it does not pivot to allow the monitor to be used in portrait mode. But the monitor appears to be compatible with standard mounts, so could be used in portrait mode that way. The stand provided allows -5 to +15 degrees of tilt, allowing for a comfortable viewing angle. The monitor has 5 buttons on the back, aligned vertically. 1 – power 2 – programmable hot key (mine came preprogrammed for #2 as the “modes” key) 3 – programmable hot key (mine came preprogrammed for #3 as the “brightness” key) 4 – input / source button (mine came preset to auto source select) 5 – Nav/OK button, works like a joystick. press for OK, up, left, right, down To program the hot keys: • Press hotkey 1 or 2 • Press the select button on joystick (bottom button) • Use joystick to go Down to “system” • Then Right to choices • Then Down to hot key assignment • Press select button on joystick • Select the key to program • Press select button • Left / right to select desired function One press of a hot key brings up a guide showing which keys to do what. A second press brings up the menu the key is programmed for. (The input key works the same.) Using the Onscreen menu, you can adjust setting such as brightness, contrast, black boost, low blue light, color adjustments, performance adjustments. There are also predefined modes to select from. Overall, it is a very nice budget monitor that has a bright sharp display and well worth the price.

This is a great choice for a basic monitor, especially for under $100. Bought it to replace a 21.5" 1080p monitor just because I wanted something a little bigger. The 100Hz refresh rate is a nice bonus to make moving windows around the desktop feel a bit smoother. I haven't seen any dead pixels or backlight bleed so far. Having both HDMI and VGA inputs is nice for having the option to connect both newer and older computers. It would be nice if it also had a DisplayPort input, but I don't think this will really be an issue for most people.

Overall, the Acer - KA242Y Ebi 23.8” Full HD IPS Monitor is a good monitor that works well as a second or third monitor, especially for the Work From Home/Hybrid/etc. crowd. I am using the Acer KA242Y mainly as an additional work monitor. It is easier to use than a larger monitor, as you can freely share what’s on your screen without having to adjust the application’s size when presenting with my team and customers. The clarity is crisp and clear, although the darker colors are more defined than the lighter ones - I recently had LASIK eye surgery and now notice every little detail - this monitor is easy on my eyes. When watching a movie or video, I noticed some pixelation when compared to my laptop or the curved monitor. It’s not significant, but noticeable if you look for it. This doesn’t affect your daily tasks - if you use it as a work monitor for Salesforce and the Office Suite, or your personal emails, etc. One thing I like to see is for it to have a longer power cable. About 6 inches to 1 foot longer would be perfect.
