I've been using the PC for almost a year. No problems. Upgrading to WiFi allowed me to move my computer out of the dining room. Horizontally it fits on a shelf perfectly. Paired with the new monitor, I'm using the internet in comfort.

Acer - Aspire XC-830-UB11 Desktop - Intel Celeron - 8GB Memory - 256GB SSD The Acer XC-830 desktop computer is for people that need a new computer and do not wish to spend a lot of money. This computer is 1 step above the minimum of what is available on the market. With a Celeron processor, 8GB ram, and a 256GB SSD it will cover most of your very basic computing needs. Do not expect to do any gaming on it. When testing I found that with all drivers updated, including Windows, Intel, and Acer, it still has slow networking speeds, lags when you have more than 2 windows open, and in general lags when you click on any program. The unit is designed around laptop parts, processer, ram and DVD drive are all laptop parts. It is also powered by a laptop power brick, not an internal power supply. These components make this computer smaller and lighter than most others in this range. The fact that it has a DVD drive is amazing in today’s computers at this price. The back USB ports (4 of them) are limited to 2.0, the front USB ports (2 of them) are USB 3.0. It has 1 PCIx16 slot for expansion although adding a card will be difficult because there is no power available if the card needs it. It has both VGA and HDMI video outputs. The spot for the front card reader has been plugged because it does not have one. Not any big deal because card readers are cheap and easy to use. Both Norton and Firefox come preinstalled as well as a few Acer apps that help keep drivers up to date. A note about the updates. Although they are always welcome, in this case they do not fix the speed issues. I am attaching 3 pictures. The pictures show the networking speeds, both wireless and wired, and the SSD speed. The networking speeds are of some concern only because the LAN card is gigabit, yet it cannot get close to that. It was tested on a gigabit network, with gigabit internet. The internal SSD also falls short of what it should be able to do. Again, all updates and drivers were installed and current with all Windows 11 kb’s and fixes in place. I believe these short falls are coming from the slow processor simply not being able to keep up with heavy demand. If this computer will be used for simple tasks like web mail and general word processing it should work very well. It has a fast start up time. The computer does not create any real heat when running because of the laptop parts and the external power brick. With the limited space on the SSD, you may require adding an internal HDD or SSD. It has space for either full size drives or laptop drives. You will need a SATA cable and will have to disassemble the front of the computer to free up the SATA power wire, but it is there. I did add an internal drive for my testing and will confirm that both sizes and types worked as expected. I would suggest if you do add an internal drive to keep with the SSD type because of the heat created by an older HDD has no place to go, and no case fan to remove the heat. This is a low end desktop that would be great for someone who only uses it to check mail and maybe look up the occasional recipe on the web.

    Great basic desktop

This Acer Aspire desktop is great for basic users who want an upgrade. Available ports: 1x VGA connection, 1x HDMI, 4x USB ports, Ethernet port, and 2x USB ports in the front. There are 3.5mm jacks for audio/mic in the back and front of the desktop. Not frequently used, but good to have is a DVD drive. In this slim line desktop, there is an option to add a secondary hard drive. Very surprised that this Celeron processor takes very little time from cold boot to a fully running Windows. For the most basic users, 8Gb is more than enough. Also, 256GB of storage is more than enough, but if you have a massive amount of photos and videos, you might want to have an external hard drive or store files in the cloud. This desktop is great and inexpensive for the average user who wants to open documents, see social media, check online news, read email, and use office software. Overall, this pc opens files and photos relatively quickly, in a couple of seconds. This computer works for basic non-high-end graphic super powerful games. This pc is also great for grade school students, especially virtual studying.

For every job, there is a tool. My dad always told me, "Do not use a standard (flat) screwdriver on a Phillips head screw." So keep that in mind with this computer. It's a budget computer. THE GOOD ~ Inexpensive ~ Built in wifi (802.11ac) ~ Lightweight ~ Small footprint ~ Feels sturdy (more on this later) ~ Gets many jobs done ~ DVD+RW optical drive THE BAD ~ Keyboard ~ Mouse ~ Small SSD (Only 256GB) THE MEH (Could go either way) ~ 8 GB RAM ~ Integrated graphics ~ Intel Celeron CPU OVERALL As I said earlier, there's a tool for every job. This--like every other computer--is a tool. The jobs it is good for are the normal, menial computer tasks. It works well for things like word processing, social media, surfing, watching videos, etc. I hooked this Acer Aspire up to a 27" 1080p monitor and had no problem completing regular work or daily functions. I love that it comes with built in wifi. It means it can be used as a backup or secondary computer in any room of the house--like grandma's room or the kids' room. I did want to push its limits and so I downloaded World of Tanks. That took about 55 Gigabytes of the available remaining space (after Windows 11 devoured a good portion). I could get the game into demo/training mode where I played against the computer, but as soon as I tried to leave, it always froze up. Even with the low graphic intensity of the training mode, there was tearing. The integrated graphics just couldn't keep up. I didn't expect it to, but sometimes it's fun to push the bounds. It is a sturdy, durable case, for sure. I had set this on a dining room table while unboxing it. I made a stupid move and accidentally knocked it to the hardwood floor where it bounced and did a flip. It put a little scuff on the front (maybe white paint) from the baseboard, but when hooked up, it fired up as if it had never been dropped. I definitely give Acer a thumbs-up for putting it in a *me-proof*, virtually indestructible case. Because there is only a Solid State Drive (SSD) and no graphics card, the computer is fairly light. It has a nice sleek design and the little V on the front lights up when powered on. I like that. If you look at the pictures here on BestBuy, you'll see a card-reader slot on the front. This does NOT come with that. It is plugged shut. The keyboard is tiny and sits at a weird angle. Consequently, typing on it is not easy. I am used to a full-sized keyboard with backlit keys. This keyboard isn't backlit, either. So seeing the letters and special characters can be difficult in some lighting or for people with bad eyes. It's a USB keyboard, so at least it's somewhat up to date, but it also takes one of the six USB ports. I have similar issues with the mouse. It's USB and takes one of your ports, leaving you with four USBs. Even though it's an optical mouse which is definitely better than the old track ball, it feels too light and cheaply made. If you're updating an old 2006 computer, you might want to keep your old mouse and keyboard if you like them. If they aren't USB already, you can get cheap adapters. That would probably be better than using these. But these will work and get the job done. I like that it has an optical drive (DVD +RW), but setting a DVD into it wasn't the easiest of tasks. I couldn't get it on the spindle properly. Part of my problem was the tray felt so flimsy, I felt like I was going to accidentally snap it off. Once the DVD was in, I couldn't play the movie because there was no video software on there. There is some other bloatware, but not a video player. I downloaded one of my favorite music/video players and everything worked just fine. Although this is a budget price point, I think the 256GB SSD is too small for the price. Heck, there are phones out there with more storage space--especially when you consider the phone isn't losing 50GB or more to Windows and backup, etc. It could just as easily come with a 512GB SSD for the price. Still, at least it loads and opens quickly. As I said under THE MEH, it's an Intel Celeron chip, so it's a budget chip with integrated graphics. This isn't what you want to do 3-d or video rendering with. It's good enough and fast enough for general work, business, school papers, granny getting online and looking at pics of the grandkids. THE BIG QUESTION Would I recommend this? I would recommend it to people looking for something like this. It's a standard screwdriver. People who want to drive nails or use Phillips head screws will not like this. People I know who just need the standard screwdriver will be told sure, get this and a portable USB drive for extra storage if needed. I would recommend it to older people who aren't technophiles or tech-adept and I would recommend it for parents with kids in elementary-high school who just need something to do their homework and papers on. If you just want to play Solitaire and something like Civilization, you should be fine graphically, but any first person shooter or graphically intense game will prove a bad experience.

    Quiet, compact, everyday computer

This Acer desktop is very compact. I like that I can have it sitting on top of my desk. For a small computer, it has plenty of ports - 6 USB, HDMI, VGA, ethernet and front and back audio jacks. I like that it comes with a wired keyboard and mouse so there is no interference from other devices and you don't have to worry about batteries. The keyboard, which is also compact, still has a 10-key pad which is impressive and something I use frequently. This computer has plenty of RAM (8GB) and Hard Drive space (256GB) to be an every day use, basic computer, especially since many applications are online. It even has a DVD drive, which is great for movies. It comes with Windows 11 and very little bloatware. This is by far the quietest computer I've ever owned. I had to turn off my nearby radio to hear the faintest sound. It has a nice sleek, modern design. For the price point, I can't imagine too many other desktop computers comparing with this quality, good processing speed, dependability and overall package.

Simple no frills desktop and a really good price. Easy to set up and get started in no time. Couple of things to know before you buy. Their is no card reader on this particular computer. No big deal as you buy an external for $ 10 This unit has a Celeron processer which is actually quite good. Another thing to consider is that this comes with Trend Micro 6 month sub and also a 30 day sub for Norton. Nothing fancy here just a good reliable and easy to use setup. This unit replaces an Acer laptop that I've had for 7 years, but was outdated and unable to upgrade the Windows version it had.

I had a decent desktop computer, but I went ahead and bought this one because I wanted to go to Windows 11 sooner than later and the computer I had was not Windows 11 compatible. So far so good with this full featured little wonder. While it has the form factor of a desktop it is really a laptop trapped in the body of desktop. That is why the price is so low yet it contains so many features. Even the power supply is external and looks like a laptop power supply. Speed is good and the specs are fine with 8GB RAM and 256GB SSD. If you are okay with good laptop performance and not the typical desktop expandability this PC is for you. Just good for everyday tasks and very light or retro gaming. A few downsides though the mouse they included was like a tiny travel mouse, the keyboard seemed a little cheap, and the slot on the front that looks like an SD card reader is plugged with rubber and does not appear to be functional. I really like the fact that it comes with a DVD though as most budget desktops will not. The only USB 3.0 ports are on the front but the back has (4) USB 2.0 ports. I have had good reliability with Acer desktops in the past, hopefully this one will continue that tradition.

This Desk Top works well for the price. Only problem is the Ethernet is only allowing 100 Mbs when I have a 1gig connection. I am going to have to have it repaired under it's warranty. The processor is not the best there is but it is fast enough to satisfy me. I don't like the fact that you are limited to 8mb of ram and can not upgrade. Would have given this Desktop PC a 5 star rating if it were not for the ethernet problem and the limited RAM.
