Customers are saying

Customers consistently note the excellent performance and large screen size as major strengths of the Nitro 5 gaming laptop. Positive feedback also highlights the good graphics, RAM, keyboard, and overall value for the price. However, some users mention that the battery life could be improved, and the laptop's weight and potential for fan noise are recurring concerns. While some users find the laptop runs warm, others report it as easy to use and upgrade.

I love the speed of this laptop. I use it for business. I really enjoy its performance. The Acer Nitro 5 is more than I had expected. I'm very happy that I bought it. The Keyboard backlit is awsome. There is only one drawback... its cam. But I'm sure that I can find a program to improve its photo quality.

Buyer beware .. the first unit I picked up did not even power on. I wanted to give it another shot, because I really do like the look, form factor, specs, etc. for the sale price, so I took it back to BB to do an exchange. Thankfully they let me open and test another one right there in the store. It powered on, but I discovered that the V, B, and space bar keys did not work. Joked with the BB employee that third time's a charm, so I opened another one. It powered on and all the keys seemed to work OK. I've been using that unit since for about a month now, and have had no issues with it. I upgraded the RAM to 32GB with Kingston HyperX Laptop Memory Kit HX426S15IB2K2/32. The back was difficult to remove (you have to remove all the screws, and then carefully pry it off; I used a thin plastic ruler). It doesn't have a convenient little RAM compartment opening like the 15" version has. Once I put it all back together, Windows showed the upgraded amount of memory and the correct RAM specs. If it continues to run fine with no issues, then I would definitely increase this review to at least 4 stars.

    MOM, THIS MACHINE IS SWEET!

I've had this laptop for close to a month, and I am still discovering all its capabilities as it so much more than I expected. My previous laptop was an ASUS with Windows 7 and I had it for ten years... I have no complaints as it is still running. But, I wanted to update it before long, so I chose this ACER for the larger screen as I have vision difficulties, and I can tell you it made quite a difference. I also like that it has a lighted keyboard which makes it much easier for me to find the keys I need. I am acclimating to how the new Windows 10 system works, and like anything else, I'll get use to it. However, when my son saw this machine, he absolutely loved it! After he looked it over and saw everything it could do, his response was "MOM, THIS MACHINE IS SWEET!" I did not realize that it was a "gaming" laptop, and with all the bells and whistles it came with, I'm sure I'll be enjoying my games much more than on my old machine. I would absolutely recommend this laptop!

I’ve had this laptop for about 4 months now and I adore it. I basically only play the Sims 4 or Apex Legends on it so it’s typical light work business here lol. The laptop is very fast and runs pretty smoothly. I don’t really download much.. other than.. 1.5k plus mods for the sims .3. with that being said though, the battery on this bad boy is so bad :( it doesn’t last very long at allll and it dies very quickly for me for some reason? even when I am just using it to online shop or file my taxes, i get the low battery notif within an hour of it being unplugged. Idk if that’s a reasonable time for y’all but it’s super short battery life to me. Especially if I’m playing a game and only make it two rounds in a match before needing to leave it plugged in while I play. But other than that, I really really love it for a first gaming laptop! I got it when it was on sale for $699 so I feel like this was still a bang for my buck for sure since I use it quite often! :)

I think the laptop is good enough if you do not play some big game, anyway another 8G RAM is recommended. Power also not good but could accept. Only thing annoying is I cannot find any method to turn off the power light after shut down my laptop. It keep bother me and I have to move the laptop out of my bedroom before sleep, terrible and troublesome.

I like the computer a lot, it’s exactly what I wanted to use it for. Since it has an ssd it boots really fast, I added my extra 1 tb hdd ( with the included kit ) and it worked, I liked the fact that you can control the fans and how they function with the nitro sense program. Super fast computer, really nice specs and worth the price. I play a lot of games with the settings turned to maximum. I can edit my 1080p videos from my dslr camera, and I can use my fl studio with no lagging. The keyboard took time to get used to, the touchpad is very nice ( I use my mouse so it has an option to turn off the touchpad, just like my other acer ). It doesn’t have a disk drive though ( which doesn’t bother me one bit, I download all my games and programs anyways ). You can always upgrade the ram later. Overall it’s a really nice laptop

Overall happyish with purchase. Bought for Battlefront 2. Runs game well. However it feels warm to the touch if the fans are not operating at max level. And then it is really loud. Sound is ok. The volume doesn't get as loud as I'd like either. This was for my son. He likes it, I just think the cost was worth it, for how it runs.

Shopped around and researched extensively before deciding on this particular PC. BB had the best price. No regrets. It's running Windows 10 Home ed. (big surprise !!). After trimming all the BS bloatware and refining the "defaults" this little machine is a dandy. Upgraded the memory to 16gb and added a second 500gb SSD. It boots to the desktop in about 20 seconds and runs everything I've thrown at it (including games like Far Cry 5 and RB6 Siege ) without a hiccup. Ordered online and it was ready for pickup at my local BB the following day. Thanks for the great service BB !!

This laptop is great value for gaming and productivity! The NVMe drive is fast and boots extremely quickly! Down side is only 512GB but is easily upgradeable. You can add another NVMe and a 2.5in drive if you like. The body is plastic and is fine, it's what you expect at the price. This can easily play Call Of Duty and Apex legends to name a few at decent settings. It will get warm like any gaming laptop but performs very well. Overall I would recommend this laptop. It goes on sale often and I would also say the AMD is worth the buy!

Great laptop and not just considering the price! Runs modern games on high and slightly older games on ultra. Does get a little hot on the lap( hence the 4 stars ) so make sure and order a cool pad if that is what you intend.

I do digital art and animation as a hobby, which can be pretty RAM intensive. This laptop handles everything I throw at it without a stutter. I frequently have multiple high-demand graphics programs running, video software, and music and internet tabs running at once. No sweat for this machine. The screen resolution is wonderful and the crisp picture is really stunning. I love this thing and would recommend it to anyone with similar needs.

The only problem I have experienced so far is the brick on the power cord gets hot when I play no man's sky. There is also a bit of noise from the fans when you are deep into game. But it didn't have any problem running the game. Video is good and screen size is a bit more than average. All in all a decent laptop. I still am not going to say it is great because of a design flaw. Half the outer case or body of the unit is composed of plastic. Plastic can break easy and had the total outer case and body of the unit been made of aluminum it would dissipate heat better. But then most gaming laptops run over a thousand so this is a decent starter model.

I'm absolutely shocked at the quality of graphics and gameplay i get from this sub $1k laptop. The upgrade path is very easy as well. You can easily upgrade the drive with an m.2 drive or an SSD with the included wires. I would definitely recommend upgrading the ram. 8gbs is great for some simple gaming and photoshop, but if you're getting into video editing (which is dead simple to do with windows and this laptop), drop in at least another 8gb stick or possible go up to 32gbs. Only complaints? The screen isn't super great. 60hz is fine for most gamers, but if your'e going to try and do some higher framerates, connect to an external monitor or tv.

My 11 year old son had progressed beyond the aged family hand-me-down computer and was begging for a gaming computer. This machine seems to meet all of his expectations. We had actually purchased additional memory to boost this, but have not yet installed it. Since we have it, we will eventually open it up & put it in, but honestly, he has yet to complain about any limitations as it is out of the box. For the price, this is a very nice little laptop.

It has been nearly a month since I purchased for this device and as so far it works really nice. I am someone who wanted a laptop for school but also to play videogames, for that reason this proved to be a smart choice. I played Sekiro and Batman Arkham knight for around 2 continuous hours and it went pretty well. There is some inconvenience regarding memory but it is nothing without a solution. Besides, for this price, it seems a pretty good pick for me.
