I knew coming into this that compatibility would be an issue, but Windows Prism emulation is really good, aside from not being able to run virtual machines. Besides that, the laptop has amazing battery life—18 hours when doing school work on Chrome. The build quality is very nice, and it comes with an upgraded SSD inside. The webcam is even better than my iPhone 14’s camera, which shocked me. However, the speakers are pretty bad; they are downward-facing and sound very flat. Additionally, the Windows install on here was full of so much bloatware that it took an hour to wipe. Despite these two cons, overall, this is a really nice laptop, and I can’t wait for more updates and greater compatibility down the road.

I’m very satisfied with this purchase. Very good performance. The laptop runs smoothly, handling multitasking with ease, and I haven’t encountered any issues with the ARM Snapdragon X Elite processor, which was one of my main concerns. Integrated Copilot has been a useful tool. Nice design. The touchscreen is responsive, and the battery life is very efficient, lasting through long work sessions. Something that could improve is the audio. The volume fluctuates at times, but overall, it’s a minor issue compared to the excellent performance of the laptop.

The Acer Swift 14 AI is a premium mobile laptop equipped with the Qualcomm Snapdragon X Elite X1E-78-100 ARM Processor. I was excited to see if this laptop could become my daily driver and it passed the test easily. The unique characteristic of this computer is that it has hardware that is dedicated to AI. My first impression: this computer is fast, it's portable, it runs cool, and the battery lasts forever. The Swift 14 is ideal for professionals or students that also use it for entertainment or creative needs. The native ARM application library is much larger than I anticipated. Additionally, this laptop can virtualize programs that aren't native and does it well. *Design & Build* The Swift 14 AI is lightweight and thin weighing in just under 3 pounds. Dimensions are 13 x 9 x .75". There's a backlit keyboard with no flex. The keyboard feels good, with adequate tactile response. The keyboard is standard with the exception of an AcerSense & AI CoPilot key. Every component feels like quality, although the keys are a little small, but this is most likely due to the size of the laptop. There are 2 USB 4 Type-C ports and 2 USB 3.2 Type A ports. I would prefer one more USB-C port instead of the 2 USB-A ports because most devices are slowly moving towards USB-C. Although depending on your peripherals you might want 2 USB-A. There's also a headphone jack if needed. The display is outstanding. It's 14.5" with a 120 Hz refresh rate, 2560 x 1600 resolution, and it's touch screen. It has a glossy finish that really makes the display pop. The webcam is among the best I've seen on a laptop, 1440p IR. The mouse pad has solid clicks everywhere and feels smooth and consistent. The monitor is solid, no flex, and hinges feel strong. This aluminum chassis is well made. *Specs* This laptop is equipped with Windows 11 Home Edition, and conveniently allows you to sign in securely with Windows Hello. CPU - In my opinion this is the highlight of this laptop, a 3.4 Ghz Qualcomm Snapdragon X Elite X1E-78-100 ARM Processor. This 4 nanometer tech processor is very quick, uses low power, and temperatures typically sit around 35 to 50 degrees Celsius. There are 12 High Performance CPU cores. This CPU is one of the best ARM processors out there handling everything I threw at it with ease. You will also notice that fans rarely come on to cool it down. I had about 15 tabs open on my web browser and several apps open in the background, no lag anywhere. In fact, I haven't experienced any slowdown at all while web browsing, running apps, playing games, or even booting up. Above all, it's quiet. GPU - The Adreno GPU is an integrated GPU but still offers approximately 3.8 TFLOPS. NPU - This is one of the fastest Neural processing units available on a laptop equipped with the Qualcomm Hexagon NPU. This unit is dedicated to handle AI tasks. This unit helps blur the background in video calls and adds special effects. It also helps recognize photos and create images without putting an excessive load on the CPU or GPU. The advantage with an NPU is it acts like a 3rd processor dedicated to AI tasks. Memory - 16GB of soldered memory (LPDDR5x-8448) I typically had about 50 to 55% usage of memory when processing typical tasks. This high memory bandwidth is designed for on device AI acceleration. Hard Drive - There's a speedy NVME SSD Hard Drive that I tested at 5700 MB/s Read and Write. 1 TB of space is plenty of space for me, but this is upgradeable too. This is Gen4 technology. Display - 14.5" 120 Hz Refresh, WQXGA IPS, 2560 x 1600 (1440p) 16:10 aspect ratio, touch screen, gloss finish. The brightness specs are around 300 nits, but I think with the gloss finish, the display looks great. I tested my unit and actually had about 360 nits of brightness. You can lean it back to 180 degrees as well so it lays flat. This unit conveniently comes with an HDMI to USB-C plug if you want to use an external monitor. I hooked up 2 external monitors with no problem. There is 100% sRGB which is great for creative. Webcam - 1440p (really impressive), AI helps with blurring the background. I haven't seen a webcam anywhere close to the quality here. The resolution, color, and responsiveness is high quality. There are also numerous options to change settings and add special effects. Keyboard - The keyboard is backlit (white) and feels like a typical keyboard. The keys are easy to click with a small travel distance. I didn't notice any excessive fatigue or issues here with typing. *Battery* I was able to get 17 hours of battery with daily usage and I did a video test that got an outstanding 25 hours. These are excellent results for any laptop. I'm looking forward to taking this laptop on my next long flight. *Software* The Acer Swift 14 AI comes with built-in software that lets you register your computer, monitor your computer performance, set the performance level and a host of other settings. You can also check for Live Updates to keep your software/hardware up to date. You can check the health of your battery, hard drive, memory, and optimize hardware space by cleaning up files. There's a little bit of bloatware, mostly small games, but nothing considerable. *AI* AI helps blur the camera during video calls. There's an AI CoPilot dedicated key and there are ai features built into creative software where you can create pictures and artwork. Most pictures I created were processed within 10 to 15 seconds so the NPU is doing great work here. *Gaming* Even without a dedicated GPU, I installed two of my favorite games and there was zero lag, and framerate looked great. Both games were quick and graphics were beautiful. I wouldn't used it as a dedicated gaming machine though due to a lack of discrete graphics. I am looking forward to trying out a few simulation games to see how it handles them, especially with AI. I would recommend this laptop to students, work professionals, and those that use productivity, entertainment, and creative apps. The Acer Swift 14 AI is easy to travel with and even comes with a travel bag. It's speedy while remaining quiet through most daily tasks such as web browsing, creative apps, and music or movies. A nice added plus is its ability to play games as well. *Pros* *Exceptionally long battery life *No lag *Speedy CPU & NPU *AI is a breeze on this laptop *Laptop runs very cool *Exceptional Webcam *Well built *Travels easily *Responsive Touch screen *Runs very cool *Needs Improvement* *GPU is integrated with average speed *Keys feel close together *External speakers could use more bass

Great Well built Light for the size Solid frame Sharp screen Good screen brightness for indoors No screen wobble Good typing experience Nice trackpad Windows Hello with presence detection Good speakers Long battery life (after BIOS update) Quiet in most use cases (after BIOS update) Good webcam Offers both USB-A and USB-C Includes touchscreen Upgradable SSD Not So Great Fans ran at maximum until a BIOS update was installed Estimated battery life was only 4 hours until BIOS update BIOS update was not showing in installed Acer support tools Loaded with bloatware Acer Jumpstart spams you with ads Website shortcuts are added to start menu requiring knowledge of how to remove them AI presence detection sometimes keeps locking PC while in use Palm rejection inconsistent for some users Keyboard backlight doesn’t activate by touchpad Webcam has motion blur and is overexposed RAM not upgradable The first thing that must be said is that before you judge the hardware you need to remove the built-in adware and update the BIOS. Out of the box the laptop has a sleek and thin profile. While not the thinnest chassis out there it strikes a balance between thinness and rigidity. The chassis feels sturdy, and keyboard deck flex is minimal. The screen hinge is firm with no wobble but still having enough give to allow one finger opening in most cases. The laptop strikes a good balance of strength versus weight where the outer shell feels strong enough to resist most dents without being too heavy. The matte finish resists fingerprints well and even if it does pick them up, they are not very visible at most angles. Setup 4/10 The basic Windows setup is what you would expect but what happens after is where it feels like Acer shipped this model just a little too early. To start, the Acer installed software took a long time to setup hanging on several occasions. Behavior before the first updates was inconsistent but issues persisted after updating. It could be because the BIOS version installed was not ready for release. Out of the box the fans always spun at full speed regardless of if the system was on silent mode. To make matters worse, even though the fans aren’t that loud they do have a very noticeable bearing whistle that is hard to ignore. After all updates were done the system, including checking for updates in the Acer tools, the system still ran the fans constantly at full speed and could barely manage 4 hours of usage. Upon further digging, a BIOS update was found on the Acer support website that did not show up in the included Acer support tools. After installing the update, the system quieted down and it responded to changes in mode. Unfortunately, after the BIOS update the screen brightness controls stopped working requiring an uninstall and reinstall of the graphics and display drivers. During this entire troubleshooting process, the Acer support tools reported everything was fine. Hopefully Acer will update the support tools to ensure these updates are applied automatically out of the box, so the less tech savvy don’t run into these issues. After several rounds of updates and troubleshooting the system stabilized. Unfortunately, the updates and corrections weren’t the end of issues. After the system stabilized it became evident how much bloatware Acer installed. Of course, Windows now installs third party apps by default, but this system went a step further. First, McAfee is installed by default with a 30-day trial. Not great but easy to remove. Something slightly more useful is a 100GB upgrade to Dropbox for a year. The worst were the baked in shortcuts to online games. They were not installed but configured as internet shortcuts on the start menu. For someone that isn’t tech savvy they would have a hard time figuring out how to remove them as you can’t just right click and uninstall. The system also started displaying notification ads for more games. After further inspection, the culprit was Acer Jumpstart. It seemed to serve no other purpose than to serve game ads which would just pop up at random. While frustrating, the solution is simply to uninstall Jumpstart. After this last round of troubleshooting and clean up, the system seemed to work smoothly. Screen 7/10 The screen gets reasonably bright at 300 nits. It works very good for indoors, but outdoor usage would be more difficult. The 2.5K resolution means text and images are very sharp. The display is a 120Hz variable refresh rate and it shows. Motion feels very smooth and natural. Colors seem pretty accurate, but I do not have any tools to verify. Contrast is good but not standout and it won’t wow you like an OLED, but it is very nice, nonetheless. It says it supports HDR video streaming, but the HDR effect is limited with only 300 nits brightness. Overall, the screen is very nice but not a standout. Keyboard 8/10 The keyboard is good with a decent amount of travel and a distinct activation point. Keys do wobble a bit but typing overall is consistent with missed keys being rare. Backlight uniformity is good with no major inconsistencies although an extra brightness level that is a little brighter would be nice. Also, when the keyboard backlight goes to sleep it does not turn back on if you touch the trackpad. This means you must touch a key, and maybe activate something or make an accidental selection when turning the backlight back on. Other systems typically allow you to just swipe on the touchpad to wake the backlight. When the backlight is off the keys are reasonably visible although not the easiest to see. Touchpad 8/10 The touchpad has a nice feel and glides easily. Operation is consistent and reliable. The downsides are that it is still a diving board style touchpad and palm rejection is inconsistent. If you have smaller hands the palm rejection can cause your cursor to jump to a new location in the middle of typing. If you have larger hands, this rarely occurs. The diving board design means it only clicks at the bottom left and right of the touchpad which can make click and hold to drag more cumbersome. Regular taps and double taps work anywhere on the touchpad and work very well. Webcam 6/10 While the webcam is rated as a QuadHD sensor, it doesn’t appear that high resolution in daily usage. The reason is poor low light performance and motion blur. Even in a reasonably well-lit room you can see noise in the image and objects will blur as they move. This can be improved somewhat by turning down the exposure, which is set too high causing faces to be washed out. The image is of lower quality than one would expect based on the numbers. Overall, it is still a decent camera and works well. It just isn’t a standout. Where it really works well is in Windows Hello. The moment you open the laptop it quickly sees you and unlocks the system making manually logging in rarely if ever needed. Acer includes presence detection which is a nice feature that you can set to automatically lock the computer the moment you walk away and then wake up and unlock the moment you approach. You can set the activation distance and lock time. Most of the time it works well but every once in a while, it decides to lock the computer while you are working and then immediately unlock it. Increasing the lock delay helps but reduces security. It would be great if Acer could refine this further as it makes security so transparent you can keep your computer safe without even trying. Speakers 6/10 The speakers fire to the sides and downward but surprisingly don’t typically sound muffled. They get plenty loud with good range, but the sound quality isn’t the type that you would likely choose to listen to your favorite music using them if you have the choice of headphones. You can adjust the EQ and surround simulation effects using DTS controls which can give the effect of making the soundstage be directly in front or sound wider than the actual laptop. Overall, they sound like good midrange speakers that are well matched to a midrange computer. Battery Life 10/10 The first thing that needs to be said again is battery life is only good after applying the latest BIOS update. Before the update the fans would be on full blast continuously draining the battery fast. After the update the system is quiet, and battery anxiety isn’t an issue. More often the issue is remembering that the system needs to be charged. Even once battery saver turns on at 30% you still have plenty of time left for casual usage. What is also nice is you can simply close the lid and come back later to no noticeable change in battery. No slipping it into your bag only to find it later feeling like it is on fire with a dead battery. In most cases bringing a charger isn’t needed unless you are doing heavy work. Performance 10/10 Performance before the BIOS update felt sluggish, and the system ran warm. After the BIOS update you can run the system in silent mode for most task with no noticeable hit to performance. If you have a heavy application, such as video editing, this could be different but even during editing photos the system felt snappy and capable with no noticeable lag. Noise 7/10 This would be 10 if the system could always be used on silent as it is truly silent. However, if you need to use it on normal or turbo and those fans kick in you will notice they have one Achilles heel. While overall quiet, they do emit a whistle sound that is noticeable. Temps were good but if you are the type sensitive to high pitched sounds this whistle could be off-putting. That said, this only applies to heavy workloads as in most cases the system is dead silent. Final Thoughts The Acer Swift 14 AI is a solid system hardware wise. If Acer would tone down the bloatware and make critical updates out of the box easily available this could be a nice system for a lot of people. If you, or a friend, have any sort of tech skills and are comfortable with a manual BIOS update this can be a solid system with adjustments.

The Acer Swift 14 AI 14-inch laptop powered by Qualcomm Snapdragon X Elite and Windows 11 Home edition. It’s processor, RAM, and storage capacity make it a powerful productivity machine for heavy multitaskers. The GPU included is the Qualcomm Snapdragon X Elite Adreno, which is suitable for most standard tasks, but isn’t going to support heavy gaming or high-demand creative tasks easily. DESIGN: As far as looks go, the Acer Swift 14 is a pretty standard laptop. It is dark gray and has the Acer logo etched onto the lid. The bottom of the laptop features rubber feet that lift the computer off a flat surface for ventilation. The trackpad is a little larger than a standard trackpad and it seems very responsive. The laptop is slightly thicker than some other laptops I’ve used but it’s still sleek and has a slim profile. DISPLAY: The screen of the laptop is a touchscreen and I didn’t have any issues with it registering my touch inputs. I didn’t think it the screen collected too many fingerprints and love how bright it is. The display has a resolution of 2560 x 1600 and a refresh rate of 120Hz. The refresh rate is great for smoothing out fast-moving visuals, but may not be apparent with standard tasks. The brightness level is only 300 nits, but it seems to be plenty bright in my opinion. BATTERY: Out of the box the laptop didn’t power on. I plugged it into power using the provided power adapter and it turned on. After setup was completed, the battery showed it was at 89%. I left the laptop on and unplugged it from the power adapter. I changed the standby settings so that the laptop would not fall asleep. Then, I turned on a 4K YouTube video and let it play at 100% brightness. After one hour, the laptop had only drained 6% of its battery. With that in mind, I would estimate that it would take 15-16 hours of use to drain the battery completely. NETWORK SPEED: To test the network speed, I ran Ookla’s Speed Test using Chrome. The dowload speed was 737.19 Mbps and the upload speed was 604.51 Mbps and the ping was 12. This was using an AT&T Fiber connection with a Netgear RAXE500 Tri-Band WiFi 6E Router. PERFORMANCE: When I completed standard real-world tests such as surfing the internet, editing photos (just using Paint), and notepage/processing tasks, the laptop passed above expectations. When I set up the laptop, I did it as a new PC and customized the experience for business and creativity as it seemed to be the best match for the laptop’s specs. One thing that was different about the setup process was that the laptop automatically completed updates as a part of its initial startup. I did decline the trial offers of Office 365 and Xbox Game Pass. When it came to search settings, I turned off search highlights and the work or school account options. Then, I turned off the Microsoft Start feed in the Widget area. Once those setup tasks were completed, I completed the Windows updates. After finishing setup and updates, I restarted the computer and immediately ran Task Manager to see how many computing tasks were running. There were 181 tasks running - most of which were system-based. I ran Geekbench to assess how well the CPU would perform. The Geekbench CPU score was 2426 single-core / 14374 multi-core. As a means of comparison, the top-ranking CPU on Geekbench’s charts is the Intel Core i9-13900KS with a score of 3140 for single-core and a multi-core score of 21796. When looking at the Qualcomm Snapdragon X Elite (X1E-78-100) processor that is in the Acer laptop against the Intel Core i9, the Intel chip outperforms the Snapdragon X Elite in nearly every area except power efficiency and integrated graphics. Overall, the Acer laptop is a power-efficient laptop that is great for many different tasks. I wouldn’t bet on it as a dedicated gaming machine, but for most other tasks it’s worthwhile.

Fast and sleek all-day AI Powered Laptop

The Acer - Swift 14 AI - Copilot+ PC - 14.5" 2.5K 120Hz Touch-Screen – Snapdragon X Elite – 16GB Memory – 1TB SSD - Steel Gray is a fast, sleek, lightweight all-day laptop. Kudos to Acer on the laptop packaging being entirely recyclable cardboard materials! The laptop was well-packaged and arrived without issue. The build quality seems excellent with a solid premium feel. The laptop comes with a nice laptop carrying case to keep it protected and has a large pocket for the power adapter and a few accessories. It comes packaged with a micro-USB to HDMI adapter which is a nice extra and wasn't expected. It comes with a power brick that plugs directly into an outlet and has a 6 ft USB-C cord attached to it for charging or powering the laptop. The laptop recharges quickly with the included power brick. The keyboard has a nice tactile feel to it and is pleasant to type on. It has 2 levels of backlighting brightness and seems adequate. The large touchpad is smooth and responsive. It has an interesting feature built into the trackpad... when an app is using the AI features of the laptop it lights up a little graphic on the trackpad so you know AI features are being used. Nice added touch. The sound quality is pretty good for a laptop of this size. Nice crisp sounds at all volumes with plenty of volume range for most people I would imagine. The DTS sound settings app on the laptop has one EQ adjustment, but I honestly couldn't tell a difference in the sound when I tried to adjust the EQ to add a bit more low end. The 2560 x 1600 120Hz touchscreen at 14.5 inches is crisp and bright with plenty of brightness for most situations. The touchscreen is responsive and comes in handy when you need to scroll or zoom if you're used to using a tablet or smartphone. Reflections are handled quite well and were not an issue even though it's a shiny surface. The hinge is sturdy and smooth and does not wabble at all. The laptop angles up a bit as you open the screen which is nice for ergonomics. Windows 11 setup is easy and walks you through everything like installing updates and getting connected to a network. No issues there. The laptop does come with a Macafee antivirus trial and a few bloatware games that are easy enough to remove if you want. Acer includes it's AcerSense app for managing the laptop settings and updates as well as doing some maintenance tasks on the hardware. Seems pretty straight-forward and useful. The laptop makes quick work of everyday tasks with the Snapdragon X Elite – 16GB Memory – 1TB SSD combo. Things like browsing the web, editing documents with Office, editing photos and videos all run smoothly. The battery life on this machine is incredible! I was able to play video for approximately 16 hrs in power-saving mode on medium brightness! I believe this is the first laptop that I've owned that achieves that kind of battery life! Quite impressive! If you're looking for a true all-day laptop, this machine will do it. You can also do some moderate gaming on this machine. One cool thing I discovered is that Windows can use the NPU AI to enhance gameplay for certain games. This makes a huge difference in performance as it runs the game in lower resolution and scales it up in realtime. I tried a few games like Borderlands 3 and Tomb Raider and both performed really well without the AI assist but even better when that kicked in. Borderlands 3 did take a bit of messing around with to get it to set the resolution properly. Note that some games and apps will not run on the Snapdragon processor but I find that the majority do. I tried running New World and that was a nope and Fortnite as well. I'm guessing both of these games will add support at some point with the number of Snapdragon processors that will be out there soon. World or Warcraft ran just fine. The laptop has 2 USB-C and a couple USB 3 ports as well as an audio jack port. One of the USB-C ports is used for charging as well. The built-in Wifi was fast and connected to my new mesh network with high speed throughput. I tried the Copilot app and it runs fast as far as I can tell. Image generation was pretty quick... not 100% sure yet what all can leverage the NPU abilities of the laptop. I think this will expand and become clearer over time with more and more applications leveraging the AI chips. It definitely helps with gaming in certain games. The laptop has a dedicated Copilot key which makes it easy to quickly pop into the app when you want to use it. Overall this is a great machine with excellent battery life and form-factor for anyone needing a lightweight carry everywhere laptop.

Acer Swift 14 AI Review The Acer Swift 14 AI is one of the latest laptops that pack the newest Microsoft Co-Pilot AI compatible chips, and it makes for a pretty good laptop, but let’s get into what shines and what doesn’t. Design The Acer Swift 14 AI is a stylish laptop, but is a little chunkier than some of its counterparts with the same size display. Don’t get me wrong, the laptop is still thin and at 3.2lbs it’s not very heavy due to its aluminum frame, but if you’re looking for a slim laptop there are plenty out there that would fit the bill better. My review unit came in a nice metallic gray and the build quality seems very nice, from the hinges to the keyboard, but no so much the touchpad. While not the worst touchpad I’ve used, it’s not good. The best way I can describe it is that the clicks sometimes feel a little stiff or crunchy. The keyboard is also serviceable, but nothing to write home about. Also, something I’ve never seen included with any laptop I’ve reviewed is a case. Acer includes a carrying sleeve that even has a pocket and seems really sturdy. Display The 14.5 inch IPS touch screen display is decently bright, responsive and reproduces colors well. At a resolution of 1440p, you’ll get plenty of desktop space to work with and with Windows 11 scaling, you’ll be able to scale it if you have issues with the higher resolution. The screen is also 120hz, which makes everything smoother, from mouse scrolling to web page scrolling, everything will be smoother. Performance The Acer Swift 14 AI is powered by a Snapdragon X Elite processor, which provides the amount of power necessary for advanced Microsoft Co-Pilot features included in Windows 11. Accompanied by 16 GB of RAM and a 1 TB SSD, this laptop will provide enough power for multitasking and plenty of storage for files. This isn’t a gaming laptop, but you can certainly try some more casual games on the unit and might just get away with being able to run some on the integrated Qualcomm GPU. The laptop does get warm under load, but never uncomfortable. Battery Life/Connectivity The battery life is absolutely excellent on this laptop, lasting more than 13 hours for me on a single charge while watching media and surfing the web. I don’t see anyone complaining about the battery life on the Acer Swift 14 AI. Charging is easy with the included small power brick, with You’ll also get Wi-Fi 7, Bluetooth, and even a couple of USB ports on the side of the laptop. You’ll receive a USB-C to HDMI adapter in the box as well. This is a welcome change from a lot of laptops on the market with just one or two USB-C ports. Oh, and there’s even a headphone port, yup, you heard me right. AI Features/Functions AI is a buzzword these days and for good reason, but what does it mean in relation to this laptop? Well, not a lot, to be honest. Acer does include an “AI Indicator” that seems to work when you’re using the AI capabilities of the laptop, like filters in a video chat or some of the other Co-Pilot features. This light doesn’t always work and seems like a gimmick. I also found no way to keep it turned off, as the setting in the Acer software doesn’t seem to work. Also, there is a lot of bloatware that ships on this laptop. Lots of junk programs and games will clutter the start menu when you open it, and Acer seems to have a piece of software for just about every function of the laptop. You’ll be okay uninstalling some of these, but some do control functions that you might want, so be aware of that before uninstalling. In terms of AI, you’ll be on the bleeding edge of it with this laptop, but there’s not a lot of benefit to that moniker. Other than the fact that you’re getting a state-of-the-art processor from Qualcomm with incredible battery life, power, and efficiency, you’re really just getting a nice laptop that’s future-ready. Conclusion The Acer Swift 14 AI is a good laptop for anyone looking to unlock the advanced AI features of Windows 11 and future software programs. It’s also just a great all around laptop with its beautiful 1440p 120hz display, 16 GB of RAM and 1 TB SSD. That said, the touchpad and keyboard aren’t great and that takes away from an otherwise good package. If you don’t mind the keyboard and touchpad, then this could make for a great daily driver at the right price.

This is the best laptop I have ever owned. The battery life is incredible, it can run for days without recharging even with graphics intensive tasks, and it never gets even a little warm to the touch at all. Other portable computers I have owned always got at least warm to the touch if not hot after just a few minutes of use and this one is always cool or room temperature no matter what I am doing on it. The wifi 7 adapter, even without a wifi 7 router, is more stable, reliable, secure, and faster than even a wifi 6e adapter. Last, but not least, the AI does a beautiful job of keeping the screen bright, clear, and easy to read even in direct sunlight even when turned down to five percent to increase battery life a few more hours. I would definitely recommend this laptop to anyone who needs speed, reliability, security, and the power to do even some of the most graphics intensive tasks like 4k or better image or video rendering!

The laptop is the best in this price range, with a very good battery life, display quality and a perfect performance. It gives you a premium feeling and the big touch pad gives you a lot space to work on .

-=> Construction <=- The box is just plain cardboard, which is fine. There is a minimal amount of plastic in the packaging, so there is little that can’t be recycled. I would rather money go towards the insides instead of the packaging, which will just go in the trash, so this was a wise choice by Acer. The body of the computer itself is very well made, with minimal flex. The surface has a matte finish, and barely shows fingerprints at all, and it exudes a quality feel. Of note is that this is NOT a “convertible” in that it will not fold over into a tablet form factor. Of note is that the box also included a nice quality carrying case for the computer. This is a nice touch and very much appreciated. The box also included a USB-C to HDMI adapter, and that is necessary because the computer does not have a built-in HDMI port. -=> Peripherals <=- The keyboard is backlit (white only, with two brightness levels), and does not have a separate numeric keypad. The feel of the keyboard is about what is expected for a laptop in this price class. It is perfectly usable, but unremarkable. The power button is in the upper-right corner of the keyboard, right above the backspace key, and I have on occasion accidentally hit this button because of the placement. Not anything serious, but it should be noted. The touchpad is decently large, and works well. The only unusual thing is the lighted logo in the upper-right of the touchpad that starts pulsing when the “AI” core is active. The IO consists of two USB-A ports, two USB-C ports (which is the only way to charge or get video out), and one 3.5mm audio jack. There is no SD or micro-SD card slot present, which is somewhat unfortunate. The speakers also sound surprisingly good for a computer this size. The display is very good, at 2560 x 1600 at 120 Hz! It appears to be an LCD and not OLED, but it is still quite bright with a contrast ratio that appears excellent to my eyes. The downside is that an external display has to be connected via one of the two USB-C connectors, where the bandwidth appears to be somewhat limited. This computer can only drive an external 3440 x 1440 monitor at 60 Hz. There is the obligatory web camera along the top of the display. I am not a connoisseur of cameras, so I cannot judge the quality. However, the “AI” light was lit up on the touchpad when the camera was operating, so clearly something was being done to the image, but I could not see a difference. The camera also supports facial recognition under Windows, in addition to the fingerprint sensor built into the power button, so both methods of logging in are possible. -=> Performance <=- Here is where things begin to get complicated. This is among the first of a new generation of Windows computers featuring an ARM processor, and all of the good and the bad that this implies. The processor literally speaks a different “language” than the ones that previous Windows computers have used. There is a translation layer built into the software that allows older “x86” and “x64” software to work, but there are a few problems. A far better solution is to use the native ARM versions of your favorite software, but as of right now, much software has not been recompiled to use ARM, leaving you to use the translation feature. I tried several “x64” applications, and those generally worked as expected. However, there were problems when the code was not a simple application. For school I need to use VPN software called “GlobalProtect,” which refused to run properly. There is also a package called “Open Shell” that I use to replace the start menu built into Windows (it makes the start menu work like Windows 7), and this refused to install entirely. So, what do these problems mean? If you are going to stick primarily to common office-type stuff (web browsing, office suites, etc.) then this computer should work just fine. On the other hand, if you need to do something more unusual then you MAY have problems. Do a quick Internet search to see if the programs that you need are supported under ARM Windows. One of the claimed advantages of moving to an ARM processor is that this CPU is supposed to draw less power, allowing the battery to last longer. Others have reported that this laptop can get close to the twenty hour mark, but this was not my experience. My first test was to simply run a YouTube video. The screen was at around medium brightness, and the video playback was around ten hours using the Microsoft Edge browser, which certainly should have been running native ARM code. Next I spend some time installing software, and just trying to get the computer usable for school work (which failed, as I noted above). But my estimation of the battery life was once again at around 10 hours. Perhaps others have been doing less demanding tasks. Still 10 hours, while not remarkable, is entirely enough to get through a day. Speaking of the battery, I like to baby my computers and expect them to last a long time. One feature that appeared to be lacking is a way to limit the battery to only charge to around 80%. If you plug it in and wait long enough, the battery will charge to 100%, which is not ideal if you expect your computer to last for several years. -=> Software <=- One issue that I encountered is that this computer is pre-loaded with a bunch of useless software. The first is that McAffee anti-virus is included. In general, the antivirus built into Windows is adequate, light on resources, and free. Whenever I find McAffee, I immediately uninstall it. Also included are links to Dropbox and Booking.com. Finally, software called “Acer Jumpstart” seems to keep throwing up advertisements for cheesy games and Dropbox. For a machine in this price class, Acer getting a few extra pennies in exchange for pre-loading this useless software seems like petty money-grabbing and they should reconsider this policy. But, now, onto the headline feature. It has “AI!” What real advantage does this bring you? I have no idea. If you are the type of person who gets excited with new buzzwords, then this computer features AI! Wow. As for me, I don’t really have a compelling reason to use the AI part, especially the NPU (Neural Processing Unit). Few computers have a NPU, so not much software will support it for now. I suppose that as NPUs become more common, software to take advantage of it will come out. But as for now, the “AI” appears to be more hype than substance. Overall, this is a good computer, if your needs are simple. It holds the promise of powerful AI in the future, but software headaches for now.

The Acer Swift 14 AI Copilot laptop is a very nice PC for work or school. The Swift 14 is built very well and feels super premium while using it. The screen is beautiful and crisp, and the touch screen capability is a big bonus! Setting this PC up will take a bit of time. I had a bunch of updates to install and it took about an hour in total. Once you get everything setup, everything works wonderfully. The Snapdragon X Elite processor is very snappy and provides a smooth experience. Copilot was a pretty decent experience. It works well if you are doing simple things like getting a recipe, need help with homework or basic informational inquiries. Copilot’s speech and response seems pretty seamless and was a pleasure to use. It would be nice if Copilot could do more advanced functions like turn certain settings on and off. It shows you how to do these things but can’t actually execute. Maybe in the future. Overall, the Acer Swift 14 AI laptop has been great. Works very well, is smooth and Copilot is a nice assistant to have. Definitely recommend!
