Customers are delighted by the responsive touch screen and the ease of use of the Switch One 10. Many appreciate its portability, sufficient battery life, and the convenient size. However, some users find the limited RAM and storage to be insufficient, and the sound quality could be improved.

The Acer switch one is a Windows 10 multi touch device. It can be used as a tablet or laptop. Onboard storage is limited by its 32gb Kingston m52532 but it has micro and full size USB ports for expansion. Speaking of ports it has a full size headphone/external speaker jack and micro HDMI port. There is no Ethernet port but I was able to use a combined USB hub with GB Ethernet connected to the keyboard with no problems., In fact it was a USB3.0 hub and shows as such in the device manager, don't know if it achieves full speed yet but the Ethernet does. The IPS screen is bright and sharp with excellent viewing angles. The type is readable and appears sharper than other 10 inch devices I have used in the past. The Intel HD graphics handles You tube, Hulu and Netflix in full HD resolution. The Intel Atom processor can be stressed if multiple applications are opened. I had no problems with the windows anniversary update seen with other low memory devices but it did take about 10 hours to complete. Just set up the device and go right to updates and leave it alone overnight. Also make sure you run disk cleanup and cleanup system files this removes the previous windows 10 files recovering 12 or more GB. This device is great for travel, lightweight, fast enough for email, entertainment and light work. The included ports allow great connectivity. The battery life so far has been great, 10 hours and still going.
For the Adventurous: If you are very tech oriented there is a you tube video showing how to install a 1tb drive in the keyboard using Acer parts and a slim 1tb drive. I can't tell you how this mod is but looks very easy.

I always have a bit of trouble when reviewing most entry level computers. I want to expect a lot and seldom come away impressed. The Acer Switch One model number N15P2 isn’t a bad computer but in this price range it just maybe fine.
To start it has a Intel Atom x5-Z8300 Quad Core CPU clocked at 1.44GHz. This is a CPU first brought to market in March of 2015 and part of the Cherry Trail platform. This includes HD Graphics which support DirectX 11.2. It has 2GBs of ram and a 32GB hard drive with around 14.7GBs free after updating. The computer also includes a headphone jack, micro USB, micro HDMI, and a microSD card slot so memory is expandable. There is also a very small power jack and all of these ports are on the actual display. The keyboard itself has a single USB connection and it comes with Windows 10 32 bit Home edition.
The computer has a 10.1” IPS touchscreen display that connects to a small but useful keyboard. The keyboard is connected to the display by two flat guides and magnets. It is a tight connection and works well. Although since the keyboard is very light the balance does get top heavy when connected. The tilt of the display with the keyboard is limited right at that point where it could fall over but won’t on its own. The display can also be turned around and connected to the keyboard in a tent type of setup. But the good new here is the display is sharp and colorful. This is where the real value is. A low price notebook hybrid like this with a bad display is just not acceptable. In this department the Acer does present itself well.
The keyboard is small but feels good. I can’t say that about the touchpad which falls short on the right and left click. The keyboard does have the USB connection so a wireless mouse is an easy add. Overall the hardware is solid if not just average, extra ram anybody. I was surprised by the lack of bloatware we so often see. But the overall performance is slow so running larger desktop applications or games is not going to be too much fun here. As a content device it's very flexible and of course with Windows 10 it is a full computer. I like the overall size and it feels solid without any flex. Some of the installed apps are useful like Windows mobile so there is some real value here. One downside is the stereo speakers are on the back of the display and don’t seem to have much if any bass. But it does have Bluetooth along with a headphone jack so there are options for good sound.

Good option for budget Windows tablet

This tablet is build to a price, and it shows, and for the price is a good choice, albeit limited.
All the logic components of the device are on the tablet. The keyboard is optional, and that part provides the keyboard, trackpad and a single USB 2.0 port, mounted on a heavy hinge.
The tablet has some heft but not too heavy.
On the left side there’s a micro-SD slot for additional storage, a micro HDMI port, dedicated charger cable, micro USB and headphone. There’s a power button and volume rocker on the top, the dock connector and hinge mounts on the bottom and no connectors on the right.
The screen is good, with a bright IPS display and an adequate resolution of 1280x800.
On the hardware side, I find odd that it comes with a thin, round power connector because it can also be charged via the USB port. I use a 2 amp USB phone charger and works fine. The prong on the charger is fairly long, which I find fragile.
The keyboard feels solid and the trackpad is adequate; however, in my opinion, the keyboard base is unnecessarily heavy and thick: It weights about as much as the tablet, it’s thicker and wider. There are no extra batteries on the keyboard either. Also keep in mind that you’ll need adapters to use the USB port on the tablet (although the base has a standard USB port) and an adapter for HDMI output.
Once Windows 10 completed the installation, which took hours after upgrading to the Anniversary update, the tablet comes bundled with a trial version of McAfee antivirus, which I end up uninstalling and replacing with the Microsoft antivirus (Defender) which is free and with no nags. There is also other software and links pre-installed that took a trip to the Windows uninstaller, and standard Acer file-sharing suite, which can be useful if you have other Acer devices, and seems well maintained. It comes with Office Mobile pre-installed, and supports the full version of office.
As for the battery, it should last at least six hours.
The WiFi is 802.11n at 2.4 Ghz (does not seem to support AC networks on 5 Ghz range).
Also the internal SSD is 32 GB, and after installing Windows Anniversary and then going to the Disk Cleanup and freeing about 10 GB, the OS, recovery, etc. takes 12 GB and about 17 GB left.
Battery should last at least 6 hours, depending on the use.
It has a pair of small speakers but interestingly, they’re located behind the screen (on the top cover of the tablet), so it sounds a bit strange, although not an issue if using headphones, which would be in most cases.
For web browsing, the speed is adequate.
So while limited, considering the price, it’s a good option to other tablets considering it runs Windows 10, for editing documents or light web browsing.

Nice tablet computer for working remotely

I am a fan of tablets. I think they are one of the best innovations in technology in the past 10 years. It brings portability to every facet of your life. Sometimes you just need to grab your tablet and go. For me, I need to have a little more functionality than most tablets can give. I need a fully functional work station, but love the portability a tablet can offer. The Acer Switch One 10 is a really nice option for someone who works remotely sometimes and needs just a little more than a standard tablet offers.
It’s a fully developed Windows 10 tablet that ships with an attachable keyboard. You can use it as a tablet or in laptop mode. One of the things I really like about this device is that when it’s in laptop mode, it does function more like as a laptop than a tablet with a keyboard attached. It’s got decent power behind it (Intel® Atom™ x5, 1.44 GHz, Quad Core) and handles most tasks easily. I wouldn’t use this as my primary workstation, but as a secondary remote one, it handles email and document reviews nicely.
I’ve added some additional notes below, but before I get into that, I want to state that I did run a benchmark test on the tablet computer using NovaBench and the Switch One 10 got a 316, which is about average. The Microsoft Surface Pro 3 received a score of 693 while the Dell XPS 15 Ultrabook scored over 1,000. Don’t let this dissuade you though. It only means that this device isn’t meant for heavy-graphics lifting.
DESIGN
The first thing I noticed with the Switch One 10 was its weight. It’s total weight is nearly 3 pounds while the 9.7-inch iPad Pro and Smart Keyboard weigh approximately 1.5 pounds. That’s quite a difference. My main computer is a 13-inch MacBook Pro, which weighs 4.5 pounds. So, my first opinion of the Acer Switch was that it is a hefty computer. Even without the keyboard attached, the tablet seems on the heavy-side. I think some users might find this appealing as it passes off the perception that it’s sturdy and less prone to break.
Other than the weight, the overall look of the Switch One is really nice. It has a darker, platinum color to it and honestly, just looks like a laptop when the keyboard is connected. I’ve used a lot of third party (generic) Windows tablets that aren’t as well-built as the Switch One. One big design decision that Acer made was to use Gorilla Glass as the screen. This was a smart move because a lot of those third party tablets I mentioned, used a very basic plastic that scratched up very easily. The Acer screen, while very reflective, seems to be durable and able to withstand regular use as a laptop and tablet.
My favorite design feature of the Switch One is the keyboard and how it attaches. Instead of just connecting in the middle like a lot of keyboards, this one actually has two magnetic tabs on the sides, too, where the tablet slides down on top of them. This make the Switch a true laptop when they are connected. I’ve carried the Switch around by the tablet and the keyboard hasn’t budged. It’s a strong connection and a HUGE bonus for mobility.
One design decision I’m still not in agreement with is the Switch’s power adapter. It’s an old-school adapter instead of Micro USB or even USB-C. This was disappointing to me as it reminds me of the third party Windows tablets.
PERFORMANCE
Overall, the performance of the Switch is good. I feel like there is very good responsive time between typing on the keyboard (my main mode of testing performance on a device like this) and did not experience any sort of lag. The one thing I was not a fan of was the touchpad. I felt like for as well as the keyboard worked, the touchpad was flawed. You can of course connect a Bluetooth mouse or even a USB powered one, but that ends up limiting mobility.
I also had some issues with WiFi connectivity. We have two WiFi networks set up at home and one is much less powerful than the other (one is a 5GHz network). The Acer would only see the less powerful network. This was disappointing to me because I hoped to use this as a mobile workstation at home instead of carrying my PC laptop home every time I had to stay connected to work. But because of the lesser network connection, my experience was severely diminished and I just felt like I couldn’t get the most out of the device’s performance.
The battery seemed to be a little finicky, too. When I first got it, I had to charge it. That wasn’t a bad thing, but I had it unplugged for a day and carried it with me to and from work only to find it had a critically low battery. I charged it completely yesterday again and am currently working with a 50% battery power. So, I’m willing to chalk that experience up to a first time use thing, but it’s something to be aware of – keep it charged when you aren’t using it.
CONCLUSIONS
Overall, my experiences with the Switch One were good. It’s a sturdy tablet/laptop and will work for most computing tasks. It’s not the end all-be all with tablet computing, but it’s a solid device that works well.

This budget friendly tablet/keyboard cover combo does the trick for simple tasks like web browsing and app launching. It utilizes windows 10 mobile and feels familiar to how a desktop should look and feel when you have the keyboard attached. This is a huge plus for Window users. Once the keyboard is disconnected, the interface turns into more of a mobile platform with giant panes instead of a standard desktop. This is nice if you want to travel light and don't plan on having heavy typing tasks.
Things I like about this Acer is:
-Nice crisp screen
-Keyboard connects and disconnects very easy
-Its lighter than a standard laptop but heavier than just a tablet
-Can charge with a either a micro USB or provided power plug
-Full size USB port on the keyboard for flash drives!
Things I didn't like about this Acer:
-Keyboard types fine but the mouse track pad is horrible
-Can be a bit slow opening apps
-The speakers are placed on the back and very tiny
-The wifi speeds are somehow slower than my ipad connected to the same network
-Battery could be better
-Screen doesn't auto dim
-Its screen heavy and the keyboard is light. Can be tipped over easy when changing the screen angle due to the lack of counter balancing.
Summary:
If you're reading these reviews, you like the idea of Microsoft Slate 3 but can't justify the price. At the budget friendly pricing, don't expect macbook crushing performance and you would be just happy with a device that can run windows office mobile (powerpoint, excel, word) etc with ease and mobility.
I would recommend this for school work needing a word processor, powerpoint, and web browser. I wouldn't recommend this for people looking for an entertainment hub like netflix, pandora, etc as the speakers are lackluster at best.
I give this 4 out of 5 stars for the horrible mouse track pad and small tiny speakers.
I hope you find this review helpful!

Piece of cr*p

I don't know whether ALL Acer Switch One 10(s) are pieces of cr*p or whether I was just lucky enough to get the one that was multi-dysfunctional from the get-go.
First the keyboard would inconsistently but often not BACKSPACE in weird ways, sometimes not at all. Even through the Getting Started process, it let me backspace except for that one final character, and so believing that character had to have been the 1st character I entered, I completed the password process, and entering the same password and seeing it was a match seemed to confirm that. However, the next time I had to enter the password, password was wrong, and any variation of the 1st letter was also wrong.
No big deal, I thought: I'll just reset to factory settings. NOTHING on the Acer websight nor any blogs works to effectuate any solution. Maybe I just got a clearly defective one, but I'm going to keep a 10-foot pole around to keep Acer products away. I'm sure Best Buy will work with me to substitute for a tablet/notebook that will make my life slightly easier instead of inordinately difficult and frustrating.

The Acer Switch One 10 looks and feels like a premium product at a budget price! For what this unit can do at this price point, is pretty exciting, are you looking for a Windows tablet under $500 this is it. I forget this is marketed as a tablet PC and not an ultra-portable laptop. Included in the price is a detectable keyboard which will do well as you travel or need to throw in to a book bag. Here are my Pro’s and Con’s.
Pros:
Detectable keyboard included with mini trackpad
Full Size USB 2.0 built in to the keyboard for external USB/Hard drives
Out of the box the battery was at 97% even after first boot up
Display 1280x800 IPS
Easy to take off bloatware
Feel in the hand, responsible weight
Speed
Cons:
Bloatware
Display reflective if used outside, not too bright for my liking
Minor learning curve for keyboard
Speakers location
USB port on keyboard is hard to use
Heavy for a tablet
Windows app store is lacking major apps.
Overall, if your need this as a tablet pass. If your needing this as an ultra portable laptop do purchase it!

OK, if you're reading this, obviously you're considering this device. If you're expecting this to replace a laptop, keep looking. If you're looking to give this to high school/college students, uhm, scratch that plan. This is not a budget laptop.
Now that I'm done telling you what this device is not, I'll tell you what this device is. It has Intel Atom X5-Z8300 processor, this processor although it's predominantly for tablets, it is a quad-core processor. Powerful enough to run full version of Windows 10. However, the memory is only 2GB RAM, so running multiple applications will cause it to lag. Anything that will involve graphics requirement like games or video editing will not be reasonable expectation.
Another area to watch out for is the on-board storage is merely 32GB and Windows 10 takes up approximately 20GB. Yes, you can expand the storage with USB sticks but many programs or applications can't run from USB sticks.
It does not have the latest Wireless AC, but then again this is only $199.99. If you are fine with all the facts up front and do not have unrealistic expectations on what the device is not equipped with, I think you'll be happy with what it has. HD clear touch screen, portable, with Office Mobile included already. It also has dual camera,
Battery life is decent for a 2 cell Li-Polymer battery. I can squeeze in about 3-4 hours internet browsing and typing.

I Wanted to Like It...

I spent a good bit of time reading the reviews for this one and the Insignia 11", made a couple of trips to the store to check em out and ultimately picked this one because it didn't feel as "cheap."
Well, fast forward two days, three reinstalls of the OS, fighting with bloatware and Acer software that was about as stable as a wet napkin, wi-fi drops when a foot away from the hotspot, ummm...I could go on.
To be honest, I wanted to like it because the keyboard is decent and the battery life was as advertised.
However, I ain't gonna fight with an under-memory powered machine (most programs take 15 seconds or more to open) where the proprietary software doesn't even work right.
OBTW...look at the Acer sight and note all the BIOS upgrades already.
It goes back to Best Buy tomorrow.

This unit, an Acer Switch One 10, has a very compact form factor, and has all the versatility of a 2-In-1, just with a little bit of a twist from the design stand point. It's name Switch, defines how to get to it's versatility. The display disconnects from the keyboard and becomes a tablet, or turns around so the keyboard can tuck in below it, or reverses so you can have the display first for watching
touch functions, or in a tent mode for watching videos, or navigating your favorite rss feeds via the touch functions.
This unit is perfect to take with you, and not have to lug around a full size laptop. At just under 1.5 lbs, it is ultra portable. Typing this review on it's compact keyboard is easy, even with my porky fingers and without an illuminated keyboard, it's layout is what you would expect.
Here are this units specs:
Screen size: 10.1"
Touch Screen: Yes
Windows 10 Home (32bit)
Intel Atom Quad Core x5-z8300 (1,44Ghz)
1280 x 800 Resolution Display w/ IPS technology
32GB hdd
Micro SD slot (for expanded storage)
Dual Cameras
Keyboard Dock
Micro HDMI Output (Mini)
2GB Ram
10 Point Touch
I appreciate the feel of metal on a tablet or any portable device, this tablet or top half is surrounded by metal, which gives it a more durable or higher end feel. Its display is layered in glass as well, the keyboard/base on the other hand, feels cheap and almost toy like. It's keyboard is too light. When in the laptop mode, if you tip the screen too far back, the whole unit will rock back on it's displays back. The touch display lags a little when using it, but other than that it is quite accurate. I was disappointed that this device came with a proprietary charger, one that actually seems a bit small and flimsy for daily charging, but was then impressed to see they also included a micro USB connection that will also charge and allow more flexibility if you forget the factory power-pack. The fact this unit only had 32 GB limits what software you can add to it, being that almost half of it is already taken up by it's Windows operating system, again Acer offers a solution for this by allowing you to install a Micro SD card and Windows 10 actually has an option to install any further software directly to it, which was a missing option in Windows 8 and Windows 8.1. I consume a ton of Podcasts, both audio and video. This unit had a hard time with some of my video podcasts that were high definition, with buffering issues.
I would suggest this unit to a friend as long as this was not going to be their daily laptop, and with a side note that you get what you pay for.

So I've had this little guy for about a week now and it's doing well. Aesthetically it's a beauty and the picture and video quality on the screen is magnificent. When I opened it it came in a satchel much like expensive jewelry that you get in a little blue box so that was pleasing.
Microsoft has created a featured assistant named Cortana which I thought to be a pretty neat resolve for making my searches easier however, I found that it needs some fine tuning. I tried looking up a football game this Saturday to see if it was cancelled due to weather and the assistant failed and just found random stories about football.
As for the meaty part of the look and feel of this little guy: the charging wire seems like it might fray which scares me with how much traveling we'll do together, the gunmetal design of the exterior is nice and sleek, it charges fast, I like how fast Microsoft office boots up (by the way it comes with office applications built in and that is AWESOME), my finger prints weren't anywhere on the gunmetal but because of it also being a tablet my finger prints were all over the glass so I didn't enjoy that, and it's awesome how many ports it has, there is a HDMI, SD, USB and Headphone jack. I didn't expect that so that made enjoying doing my work with this Acer so much easier.
Overall, a great buy for airdropping work from my regular desktop/laptop so that I can do work on the go, it has great applications for fun and serious work, don't get it for the speakers because they sound really muffled, I love that I can connect via my mobile hot spot (again it works great so that I can use this for work).

I can't believe how versatile and useful this laptop is. I didn't want a Surface because you can't put it on your lap. I didn't want a tablet because I wanted a laptop. And this gives me both a laptop and tablet. It has all the keys on the keyboard. (Some of the new ones don't have all the keys.) The only drawback, which is minor, is that it only has 2GM RAM. But other than that, it's well worth the money. I get good performance surfing the Internet. downloading, and using Word and Excel. I don't play games, so it's perfect for me. It's lightweight too. And it has very long battery life.

It fired right up and in about an hour I have everything set up. I purchased an external USB DVD drive so that I could play CD's and DVD's and it worked well. both the keyboard and touch screen work well. It has Windows 10 on it and of course Win 10 does not come with software (App) to play movies so I downloaded a free app and I'm happy with it. Media player works well for music. This system is not real fast but it is fast enough for me.

I bought this for my computer challenged wife and she loves it! I had bought one for myself a little over a year ago and it is perfect for my needs as well. I travel a lot and am on a computer most of the day due to my work. I have a 64 gig memory card installed to supplement the built in memory and as I am not a heavy graphics user this has worked out fine. I bought adapters for the Micro HDMI and USB Micro ports and this gives me additional flexibility. I have large screens in a couple of my work locations so I use the dual screen capability in Windows to split my work between the computer screen and the external monitors so it is like having two computers in one. I have had a few occasions when RAM memory was stretched but that has only been when I have had lots of programs open at the same time. I particularly like the touch screen and the quality of images for videos/You Tube/Neflix etc is more than adequate. Sound is better through headphones than the built in speakers. Users, including myself, have had intermittent issues with the screen not recognizing the keyboard with no clear reason why based on the comments on the ACER user board. I reluctantly agreed to send mine to the service center and the fix was apparently related to loose connectors in the case and not software as some people had initially believed. That was frustrating. For both my wife and I this is the perfect computer - ultra portable, starts up really fast, good screen, doubles as a tablet, has a real keyboard, Windows 10 and the usual WiFi/Blue tooth capabilities, multiple cameras and a great price. Probably not for heavy gamers or people needing mammoth amounts of memory.

I wanted a very small portable unit. This is it. PROS. Excellent: Construction material, construction, display (really good). CONS: Quite heavy, a little tricky to open. Windows 10. This unit is quality in appearance and feel. The back comes off and you can use it like an iPad. Cursor can be moved by mouse pad (on board), touch, and arrow keys. Love it. Key board is easy to type on. One of the best purchases I ever made.

This laptop, tablet, computer works well in different environments. For example, if you want to type with a key board, it has one. When you only need Internet access in a class, all you need is the removable tablet.
I also use it to beam movies to my TV using mini screen beam.
Oh, and for a standard computer, the price is right.
