This Acer Switch One is a definite upgrade from previous models, but definitely struggles in a few key areas (as far as tablet/netbook combos are concerned). Battery life: standby/sleep was close to about 3 days without a charge with minimal use in between charges on power conservation mode. Takes a long while to charge, seemed to be about 4 hours to reach full charge. Screen: the screen was plenty bright and was very readable. Sound: forget about it. The speakers on the back are tinny, tiny, and not very loud. Be prepared to plug in some headphones. Touchscreen: works as expected and is very accurate. Did not try a stylus with it. Balance: this thing is not balanced to be a laptop when connected to the keyboard. It WILL tip over on you (because all the guts are in the screen). Still, it has a nice hinge and will tilt exactly to where you want it to go, so you can balance it well (it's just if you get bumped by kids or whatever...) Keyboard: the keys are totally flat, not bowed in the middle, which increased fatigue on my fingers. Also, not backlit, so... good luck typing at night. Slightly weird layout (at least, coming from other smaller keyboards like the Surface Pro's, you'll notice some accidental strikes). Touchpad: run of the mill. Nothing fancy, nothing terrible. USB: one port, on the keyboard dock. MicroUSB on the tablet itself. Processor: Will it Word? Yes. PowerPoint? Sure, if you keep animations to a minimum. Excel? If it's a big sheet, go make some coffee. Anything fancier, like Photoshop or Illustrator and you're bound to get frustrated and start pining for your workhorse. Storage: 32GB. Forgivable since 99% of everything is in the cloud. Expandable with miniSD card; I don't have one handy, my concern would be speed. Cameras: Yeah, it has front and back cameras. The quality level is on par with a 2006 smart phone. You'll get away with a low-grade Skype if you're OK looking like you're on the set of the Blair Witch Project. For Students: High School - sure. College? Hmm. Maybe for the Freshman Burner computer (the one you know is gonna get stolen sometime). For Work: If all you're doing is email or data entry or managing someone's calendar, sure. If you need to do something more substantive? Skip it and go for the Surface Pro.

This is really nice for taking with you. It is small and the keyboard can be separated easily (connected magnetically). I like the Windows 10 operating system better than the chrome or android but I've been a Windows person for years. The only real down side for me is it is a little top heavy when connected to the keyboard (for obvious reasons as the electronics are in the tablet side as opposed to under the keyboard like a laptop is). Comes with the Microsoft Office mobile and a front and rear camera. Don't look for super speed with the Atom CPU and only 32 GB of RAM but it is comparable to an IPAD 2 in my opinion

Sadly I am not as tech savvy as I should be. This cute little devise is a tablet and once that keyboard is attached it is a laptop. It is extremely heavy compared to a tablet or my much older laptop, but it is small enough to fit in my large purse. It has Windows installed which initially threw me for a loop but I figured it out. Next thing you know I am typing out a review and then watching Netflix on the same devise. I can image this would be priceless for a student.

If you leave the computer on (or sleep it) and dont use it for a 30/60 min, the mouse cursor disappears and no touch screen function. Have to restart it, but it does it again and again! Unacceptable for a brand new simple machine.

It's very portable, but heavier than expected. It's not super fast but not super slow. I'm not very fond of the screen resolution either, but it's to be expected from this size of a screen. If you need a laptop/tablet and you're on the road a lot, or as a supplement to your main computer, you can't go wrong with this, but I feel that there are better options out there.

    Small and Heavy

The Acer Switch One is a small heavy little email machine. It is not very fast and is really only good for light web surfing and email communication. The detachable keyboard is quite nice, the magnets that attach it are very strong and it hold together really well. It is a decent 10" tablet, but again a little to weighty for me to use regularly. It is a lot heavier than I thought it would be, actually heavier than my laptop with a 17" screen. Unfortunately when it shipped to me the screen had green lines thru the top of the screen when I turned it on, it will be going back to Acer for repair. Hopefully mine is the only bum screen one out there, that was a major disappointment. (Side note, Acer support was very helpful and good to work with.) If you are in the market for a little laptop to take on vacation with you to keep in touch, this could work for you. This isn't one I could use on a daily basis to replace my laptop.

Decent Job at Providing Dual Functionality

I have 3 other tablets of various sizes, one of which runs Windows 10. Of the 4 tablets, I would say that this 2-in-1 provides the best features that make it actually useful on a regular basis. While the tablet itself is fairly heavy, made with a nice stainless outer shell, making it feel nice and sturdy. The touch screen is very responsive. However, as a tablet, I'm not completely happy with Windows 10's input functionality. Maybe it's just because I'm more used to Android's keyboard functionality, or the fact that the tablet only comes with a 1280 x 800 res screen, but I'm very glad that this model is a 2-in-1 because I find the keyboard necessary to get a lot of other tasks accomplished. As the system is a 10 inch, the keyboard size is obviously small. I have pretty small hands and found typing a bit cramped at times. I also had an issue with the dragpad; the right-click response is intermittent. Overall, given it's size, I wouldn't think most people would be looking to use this as their desktop or laptop replacement. I believe that the combination of the system's specs, Windows 10, and its size will help make it useful for those who want to take care of quick tasks without having to revert to their laptop.

The Acer SwitchOne10 is a nice size, and the screen separates from the keyboard easily. Using the screen in tablet mode is easy. Unfortunately, there aren’t as many apps in the Windows store as there are in the Google Play store. The Windows 10 installation went smoothly. The owner’s manual recommends “conditioning” the battery by letting it do 3 full discharges after the initial charge. I haven’t had it long enough to evaluate the battery life under normal circumstances. The keyboard is comfortable. The track pad is a nice size, once you get used to how it works. Netflix plays well. Memory is only 2 gig, so it doesn’t have enough power to replace my full size desktop. It can be a rather sluggish. Overall, this makes a decent secondary device for the house, but not as a primary device.

Build and Externals: This is an interesting device. The tablet portion is hefty, but not overly. It feels solid and has a nice metallic feeling, but doesn't tire out my hands. The docking keyboard is solid too and the laptop locks in very nicely and solidly and releases simply. I enjoyed the build quality of the device. Feels well built able to be dragged about and not having to overly worry, which is different for full Windows 10 32 Bit devices. Normally for this price and specs they are more plastic and feel flimsy. So the build was a plus. The 32GB main drive can be augments by a MicroSD Card. I had a spare 64GB and it picked it up no issues and was able to redirect my files to that, helping keep space on the main drive. On the tablet piece it also has a Micro USB connector and micro HDMI Out. I was disappointed that they didn't include a Micro USB Cable adapter as in all my cables I didn't have one, so I couldn't test it. Also don't have one of the smaller HDMI cable connectors so I couldn't see how well it could be directly connected to my from the cable. The Keyboard Dock however has a full USB so if you get really desperate you can use the dock. I found the keyboard a bit smaller then my liking for my hands, but my kids in middle school had no problem typing on it and the keyboard itself had good action. It has two decent sized for tablets, speaker holes in the back and projected really well for a tablet. I didn't have to use headphones. Speaking of headphones has a standard size headphone/headset single jack and Bluetooth to connect those devices to the tablet for more private listening Screen is nice and bright though being touch loves my fingerprints, but a quick rub with a shirt and its good to go again. Specs and Usage: Using this device it was fairly snappy for only having 2GB of RAM. Windows 10 really works well with that as long as you remember that you have 2GB and don't install Chrome and open 50 tabs. Since this has Windows 10 Home installed, you install Chrome if you wish, though I found Edge to work just as well for me. Please note they have installed Windows 32 Bit Edition so any program you want to install has to be the 32 bit version not the 64. The only disappointing item is the Wireless card, they choose an older card that can only connect to 2.5GHz not the newer 5Gz spec and this card only goes up to 100N it appears in my testing, though even sitting right next to my overly powerful router I could get it connect at 72Mbps. This seems fine for when I was streaming SD video, since the screen is only around 1200x800 the video looked great and it was stable, though I wish the Wireless card was something more modern or better really. That is my only knock spec wise, as long as you keep in mind light duty, don't open too many things at once. Windows 10 itself is nice and works well in both tablet and regular mode, esp. once I updated the PC, as it was slightly behind the most current Windows version. Other Items: The PC does come installed with some OEM preinstalled software that I was not a fan of. McAfee is one. Laptop/Tablet seemed a bit snappier once I removed that from the device and let Windows 10 Defender as well coming with Windows 10 for free, so I don't need to purchase a license after my 30 day McAfee trial. There was some other software included but I was able to uninstall no issue. I'm sure it can do interesting things but I wasn't interested. This does come with Office, but its Office Light. The Free Windows 10 Version. For students or Adults needing to do light editing etc. This version is more then enough. Overall Thoughts: Overall I am happy with the Acer Tablet laptop. Its nice to have a full computer I can wander around the house with for light content consumption quick editing of OneNote items/email/web. If you are looking for a light duty/secondary screen device that is light and portable with a good battery life. On/Off usage I can get a whole day on a charge so that is a huge plus. I would highly recommend this to if you are looking for a device for your kids to use for School work as it has the horsepower for homework, and Windows 10 the Parental controls Microsoft created work really well. I'm happy with the build quality and speed and Microsoft with Windows 10 makes this a viable device because out of the gate I had 16GB Free and after installing some apps/upgrading it to Windows 10 Pro I still have over 15GB free. Acer has a nice spare/travel/tablet/device on there hands and if you pick it up going into this as something for light use and limited multitasking you won't be disappointed.

Initially setting up the unit was very frustrating. The unit is very slow out of the box. The setup time takes a long time too. You also have to create the USB recovery drive. If something goes wrong with your PC that is. After everything was setup, I proceeded to create the recovery partition. This took 1 hour. Once I stripped this unit of unnecessary Acer programs, I tried to do a Windows Update but for some reason it will not complete. I had no choice but to download a 32 bit Windows 10 ISO, copy the files to a flash drive and do a clean install of Windows 10 Anniversary Update which made the unit perform very good. If you decide to do this, make sure you know what you're doing as your tablet is going to show the wrong way when installing Windows and it's connected to the dock. This is normal. When it's done doing it's thing, take the tablet off the keyboard dock and finish setup. Make sure you run advanced disk cleanup to clear away temporary windows install directories and the Windows OLD folder. Once everything was finished and cleansed of bloatware, I had a smooth experience using this unit. Installed Google Chrome, some internet security, installed a Micro SD Card and put a couple of games on it. When using the unit as a laptop, the touch pad is a little sensitive for my preferences. When using the unit as a tablet, it has some considerable weight to it. If you intend to give this as a gift for a child, you may not want to due to it's weight. Sound will sound tiny depending on what's playing through the speaker. but once you use sites such a Youtube and playing music, it will sound considerably louder. You do have the choice of headphones and external speakers if that's your cup of tea. I had mentioned you can play games on this thing. Yes and no. While the processor is quad-core, this does not mean you can game on it. This Atom processor is certainly a step above it's Aspire One Netbook counterparts but still not ready for primetime games like the integrated graphics inside the Aspire R with Core I5 and Intel HD 520 are. But the CPU can play 60 Fps videos on Youtube with minimal stutter. Overall, part of me says I like it while the other half says there may be difficulty for certain users of this unit if they don't have the technical expertise to deal with issues like I've experienced. Checkout a unit at a local store if it's on display before committing to purchase.

    Not Your Primary Machine

    Posted .
This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.

As other reviews have stated, this machine is slow and I often have WiFi issues, but I am overall pleased with it. If you are looking for this to be your primary PC you will be greatly disappointed. It does everything I need it to do: -Lightweight and easily portable with a much larger screen than my phone. -Keyboard is much nicer than most in this price range - apps are sometimes slow to load, but I have an extra 5-15 seconds -speakers are terrible, but i use a dock station anyway -You have to remove and reattach the screen for tent mode, not a big deal -battery is small, I carry my charger everywhere but don't always need it -runs all the apps I use on the go: pandora, fb, open office, MS edge, simple games, etc Bottom line: I have really nice equipment that does everything better than this machine can do (i-7 desktop, UHD tv, ps4, DSLR, etc) but it is hard to throw all of that equipment into a backpack. If you want the performance of a $1000 laptop, buy a $1000 laptop. If you want an inexpensive tablet for sake of convenience this is a great choice.

    An Excellent All-In-One Mini-PC

The Acer Switch One 10 is a Windows 10 hybrid style laptop. It has a small footprint and an outstanding battery life lasting about 9.5 hours under normal usage. This is dropped down to about 5 hours with solid video playback through Netflix. The Acer Switch One features a 1280x800 resolution, HDMI output, mini-USB input on the screen/tablet portion of the unit as well as a full-sized USB port on the keyboard base, a mini-HDMI output, an IPS (In-Plane Switching) 10-point touchscreen, MicroSD card input, Gorilla Glass 3, a 32GB SSD hard drive, and a Quad-core Intel Atom Z8300 CPU at 1.44 Ghz with 2GB of RAM. Due to the speed of the SSD, it starts up in about 20 seconds from a powered off state, and comes on instantly from a sleep state, allowing you to get back to work quickly and conveniently. The 32GB SSD drive is quick, but space will likely need to be supplemented with a MicroSD card, as there is only about 13.3GB of usable space due to the size of the Windows 10 Operating System. The Acer Switch One features the Acer Snap Hinge, allowing for easy switching between the laptop, tablet, display and tent configurations for use in any environment and for any needs you might have. The Acer Snap Hinge utilizes two prongs held in place with powerful magnets, making switch easy enough to do one handed, but strong enough that the unit can be picked up by the screen portion without fear of the keyboard falling off. The keyboard is excellent, giving great feedback so you know you have pressed a key. It does not contain a numeric pad on the right side, as is the case with most 10" computers, but the spacing of the keys is ideal for typing without excess errors. The outer shell is brushed aluminum, and gives a solid feel to the unit, feeling sturdy and not cheap. Combined with the Gorilla Glass 3, it feels like a very rugged PC for such a small form-factor. Overall, the Acer Switch One is an excellent PC for everyday use, taking notes, working on the go, and traveling. It is not powerful enough for modern, high-end gaming, but this is to be expected on a mini-PC. With its long battery life, this will make an excellent traveling companion.

The tablet visually is nice, and it has nice aesthetic appeal to it. The tablet has decent performance for what it is. You won't be doing a lot of multitasking on this mainly because of the limited RAM and CPU power. The PC can handle basic internet browsing and some light Office based work. Doing any gaming on this is ill advised, even if it's a FB type game. By the time you open a browser, you're already using all the allotted RAM available. The PC overall is decent to take with you on the go. The keyboard could use some improvement as I've found myself having to press the space bar several times to get a space to take. The touch pad itself is decent, however I've noticed that the front left portion tends to stick, or stay recessed after being pressed, which could lead to is stop working in short period of time. It's possible this could have been a one off for this model for me. One of the things I had gotten this for was for a potential replacement for my Android tablet, but to use an Android Emulator. The Emulator works, but due to the lower end specs of this table/2-in-1 it runs poorly. If there's any one thing that I would like to see better implemented is more RAM considering how cheap RAM is currently. Otherwise, this is a fairly decent 2-in-1 for the price for what it is.

This is a great tablet and very easy to use if you're familiar with Windows 10. It's like having a tablet and laptop in one. You can switch back and forth from tablet mode to laptop mode. The reason that I'm giving it 4 stars is the keyboard was defective straight out of the box and would not work. Acer is replacing the keyboard with another one. Other than that no cons. Would recommend.

The Acer Switch One has a lot of "cool" points for sure. The detachable screen is very useful and very cool. The problem is Acer has tried to bring a cool little switchable tablet into the arena against some other powerhouse competitors. The first problem is this thing is running 2gb of memory, which is nowhere near enough for Windows 10. Let alone with all the preloaded crapware that in installed when you fire it up. After a good cleaning up of the crapware it doesn't get bogged down quite as bad but it still struggles with the low amount of memory it has. Screen and sound are average on the unit. But with the limited amount of RAM it has I wouldn't really recommend the unit to anyone outside of maybe your child that cares more about the "cool" factor than the functional part of it. Hope this helps some people out, good luck!

Overall this unit is perfect for entry level users. It doesn't come close to an iPad or mid-level Samsung tablet, but it has some great specs that most users would enjoy. It comes with a micro sd slot, HDMI input and USB port which I think is great for any tablet, let alone an entry level model like this one. It comes with 32gb of memory and I do like how compact the unit is even with the detachable keyboard attached. Sound quality is poor as well as video playback from websites like YouTube and Vevo. Overall speed is pretty slow as well. All in all, I would only recommend to entry level users, who need a keyboard. Otherwise, I would go with an iPad mini.
