Many customers mentioned that the system is easy to install and the alarm is loud enough to scare away intruders. Some customers also mentioned that the system is expandable and can be customized with additional sensors, locks, cameras, and thermostats. However, a few customers mentioned that the app can be buggy at times and that the system does not come with a camera.

Blue by ADT
Out of the box was a control unit which was larger than I expected, a motion sensor, and a lot of door/ window sensors. The control unit has a keypad on top, and built-in siren. I question how easy it would be to disable the control unit so it should be put in a ‘safe’ place where it can be heard. You can control it via app so access to the keypad on top is not crucial. All sensors are wireless and battery operated.
Setting up the system by app had lots of issues. The app would freeze, and often times I had to back out and start over. Finally, got it set up, and so far so good. Don’t lose the paperwork included as it includes the set up codes for the unit.
Placing the sensors was pretty easy. The motion sensor in an obvious place that someone will pass, but away from air condition or heat vents. Door sensors on whatever doors or windows you want protected. Took me about an hour to plan everything and make sure the sensors were properly placed and not in the way (top of doors). My windows were the hardest to place as my windows had very thin borders.
System works well, and I will probably add more motion sensors, and maybe a camera. I wish it had an option for an exterior or additional siren and strobe. I have not set up monitoring as I will need a permit etc. I can do that later or as needed. Just about everything with the system can easily be controlled via the app. Despite the initial set up issues, the app worked ok and seemed to be quite fast. If an intrusion occurs the app will notify you via push, and can also send a text message and email. Cannot find any mention of how long the batteries in the sensors will last.

I own or have owned several home security systems – Simplisafe, Smartthings, Ecobee and various sensors from other manufacturers. The Blue by ADT - Home Security System comes with 6 sensors and 1 motion sensor. How that adds up to 10 piece starter system is marketing nonsense – they include the yard sign and the stickers as pieces. Regardless, you do get a lot or money for a starter kit. I see this kit on sale for $225 , better than most of the competition. In review :
What I like :
Installation –
ADT nailed it for the set up . Everything is already “linked” for lack of a better word. First you set up an account, download the app and then connect the base station through a code. The entry and motion sensors were a snap to set up , take the battery tab out and it basically pairs itself. There are a few firmware updates but the process is seamless. This is on par with most of top brands today while having an advantage over the Samsung Smarththings.
Integration-
Google, IFTTT, Alexa, Zwave, Wifi and cellular. Covers every base – very robust.
Quality –
The sensors and base station are solid. You can definitely feel the quality of the sensors, better than Samsung. The motion sensor is very accurate and has good field of sensitivity. When compared to Ecobee, it is far superior. The field of sensitivity is also better by far than the Samsung.
What I do not like:
Sensor size- the sensors are significantly larger than the competitor. In fact, the motion sensor is 3 times the size of the Samsung and Aeotec sensors. While I realize that the sensor does have a better field of sensitivity, it is still does not make sense for the gigantic size.
App when arming – when you arm the system via an Android mobile device, it counts for 60 seconds. The problem is you get a notification every second until it reaches zero. In other words, you get 60 notification sounds as it counts down. Ugghh.
$20 monitoring fee. In today’s day and age, do you really need a company to contact the police or fire department. Some people think it is worth it, I do not. I did not sign up for the service, even with a month free. There were other reasons for that as well and I will outline that below.
What’s deal breaker –
Putting all the above aside, there is a reason I would not buy this product – the terms of conditions. I want you to read this excerpt from the terms and conditions and tell me how secure you feel with ADT? This is supposed to be a company that stands behind you for security –

So if you made it way through this wall of legalese, ADT is basically washing their hands of any liability as much as they can and trying to limit your rights. Further, ADT states that you except these terms of conditions just by buying the system ( which I nonsense.) For this reason alone, I cannot recommend buying this system from ADT. I know all companies protect themselves as much as possible with “terms and conditions” but this is supposed to be security company. If they had that much faith in their product they would not be limiting themselves. They are supposed to be protecting you – how protected do you feel after reading the above.
Hard pass and I do not recommend this product.

ADT is synonymous with home security and with the addition of Blue will remain that way. I have now tried two different name brands of the do-it-yourself home security packages variety and can earnestly say that Blue is by far the superior package. The absolute differentiator is the ADT BLUE app, but we will get to that. Out of the box you get a bulky "Hub" that can be plugged in a central location within your home because it also has the keypad, unlike most home systems that have wall mounted keypads. The instructions are easy enough to follow. You must first go to the ADT activate website and enter your activation code included with your specific Hub and then setup an account. During the account setup ADT has two options of active monitoring or self-monitoring. I tried the self just to see what features would be available and which are not but probably I figured restricted for a monthly subscription base. I had a previous ADT brand knowledge when we were hounded by a genuinely nice salesperson to opt into a monthly monitoring contract and where with the contract they would come in and professionally install a security system for us to have and use. I would venture a guess, that most homeowners have had similar experiences with ADT. Again, I know they are great, and the product is a value add but I never moved forward. Mainly because I did not want to commit to a monthly subscription, nor did I really want to have yet more techs out that I would to have accommodate my time for at some point. I admire ADT for changing with the times. As their market control without doubt has suffered from a couple of the competitors, I wondered why ADT did not offer something of the like that the customers (me) seem to be wanting. Well low and behold BLUE, the ADT Blue app, and understanding that not everyone wants to pay a monthly fee. The install is pretty straight forward with 1 motion sensor, 2 door sensors (could be windows too), and 4 window sensors (could be door as well). I easily synced and installed all 7 pieces in about 30 minutes without the use of a single tool or screw. Each comes with a 3M backing, do be mindful that this is not the pull away 3M but the sticks to oil 3M adhesive. Now the app... The basic feel of the app is like others I tried, you use it to sync and while on the same Wi-Fi get notices about activity. (*drumroll*) The COOLEST part is that ADT gives you full access on self-monitoring!!:) I am able to arm my house from the driveway. I was also worried about the Hub having to be centrally located so that I can arm/unarm as needed but with the phone I have the Hub hidden so if a would-be intruder did get it; they could not just unplug it. Furthermore, the unit has an internal battery backup (I never looked up how long it last) but the unit did stay active while being unplugged while I move to said different location. Finally, the "Deterrent" factor is wonderful, the kit comes with a nice ADT yard sign, several window stickers, and should it go off is silly loud.
My only real question is my motion sensor seems to be working but does not always light up (red) when I walk through what I think is its field of vision. Also, on that note, I had to look through the website to see if I could even install with cats and dogs in the house. The site is a bit ambiguous but does state that the sensors are setup to ignore large breed dogs for height and weight thus allowing smaller animals to not matter. It does not say that they will not set it off but so far, they have not (2 dogs and 3 cats).
10 out of 10 from me. I love this package, the app, self-monitoring, and will be adding Blue cameras after the holidays.

The Blue by ADT 10 Piece Starter Kit has everything you need to start protecting your home. No appointments or professional installations needed. No long term contracts. I did it all myself with the help of the app, and it was actually really easy.
When looking for extra protection for my family I need a few things out of my security system. Namely how completely can the system monitor my home, how easy is it to use and monitor, and how reliable can I expect it to be.
I will answer these questions one by one as they apply to me. How completely does it protect my home? the Blue by ADT 10 Piece Starter Kit certainly has everything you need to get started including the main hub, and a handful of window/door sensors. This is adequate, but for me does not provide complete coverage of my home. Luckily the system can be easily expanded with the likes of additional sensors, cameras, and video doorbells all at a reasonable and competitive price.
So how easy is it to use and monitor? They have clearly put a lot of thought into the system itself and the associated app so that anyone can be confident using it. Professional monitoring and cloud video storage are available through a subscription, but not required. I feel like I am confident in my ability to understand the system, and use it in a way that provides peace of mind for my family.
Lastly how reliable can I expect the system to be? That was actually the determining factor in which system I would go with for my home. I feel like the reputation, and pedigree of ADT goes a long way in reassuring me that I have a quality, reliable product.
My experience with this system so far has been nothing short of great! I will definitely be adding some more sensors for my doors and windows, and hope to get a few cameras, and the video doorbell soon. If you are looking to provide some extra security for your family and home consider the Blue by ADT 10 Piece Starter Kit.

I got a chance to try out ADT’s newest DIY Home Security System and here is my review:
Everything you need to get started comes in this particular package, or you will also need a high-speed Internet connection and smart smart phone. There’s no professional installation required, basically anybody can set it up, though there is a professional monitoring plan that starts at $19.99 a month.
This particular package comes with the smart hub with built-in keypad, six door and window sensors, and one motion sensor, you could Easily add other sensors or cameras to this package. The whole thing took me like 45 minutes to set up, I could’ve done it faster but I took my time with it. ADT makes everything pretty easy and standard to follow when setting up. The hub itself looks and feels good, in the app itself as well designed.
Definitely worth the money even if you already have an existing home security system with cameras as this offers other things to completely secure your home.

blue by ADT starter kit is a easy setup after you download the app it walks you through the process which is pretty simple. It comes with 6 door/window and 1 motion sensor, also easy to install. Powering up the system and connecting to WiFi was a snap. You can arm and disarm system from the hub or through app, and the alarm is loud enough to scare off an intruder.
The only thing I wish was that the kit included an indoor, outdoor or doorbell camera. The cameras sold separately and somewhat expensive compared to other security systems.
Would recommend if you have money to spend but again there are cheaper systems out there that work just as well.

Setup was extremely easy. Just connected the hub to power, downloaded the app and followed the guided steps. That part took no longer than 5 minutes. Actually, unpacking this thing took longer than setting it up.
Although the built-in keypad on the hub is not backlit for some unexplainable and inexcusable reason, it has a modern clean look as does the hub itself. It does not support HomeKit but it does support Alexa and Google assistants. And because the Z-Wave protocol is supported, it works with many of my home automation devices. That is a huge plus for me. IFTTT support is great because you can do things like setting it to away automatically once you’re away from the house even if you forgot to do it, just like my automated garage door does. As you get older, that is a nice feature to have. Even if you don’t use IFTTT, the app allows to create “rules” that do the same things.
In my opinion, you will want to add least a smart doorbell camera, and if your house is big enough, you might need a lot more sensors, especially for your windows but this kit is a big start. With WiFi, Bluetooth, Z-Wave and LTE, you can be sure it can reach help if needed. The loud alarm can definitely scare the bad guys and warn you and the neighborhood. The only “issue” here is that since the keypad is built on the hub itself, you can’t leave it close to the door as it would be somewhat easier for the burglar to either destroy or drown it before its siren screamed. Hiding it is fine but you’d better have motion sensors to turn your lights on so you can rush to it and enter your pass code. HOWEVER, you can use the app to disarm it instead of using the keypad. The only downside is that all the family would need a smartphone for that.
I’m still looking into the possibility of paying for the 24/7 service after the 30-day trial but haven’t decided yet. So I can’t talk about that but this kit is great even without the full service.
I can’t but recommend this ADT home security system. The only issue that I had some trouble with was the non-lit , non-detachable keypad but if you only use the app, that is irrelevant. The lack of HomeKit support can also be an issue but here’s hoping it can be added through a future firmware update. It doesn’t bother me since Google/Alexa is what I use the most anyway.

Nice Security System with Options

Overall, I'm happy with the ADT Security System package. It came with window sensors, door sensors and a motion sensor.
The installation was not quite as easy as I hoped (partially my fault) and none of the sensors paired automatically - I had to manually pair them by taking out the battery for each.
BE AWARE: each box was labeled with what it was "Door 1, Window 2" etc. I was not aware of this at first and selected the wrong device on the app so I paired two devices incorrectly.
There are two small dots that need to be aligned on the magnet and the sensor - it would be nice if these were colored to be able to see them when placing high on the door or window frame.
I had to call ADT for installation help. They answered quickly and the agent was very friendly and efficient. She had to manually by-pass the device setup screen I was on so I could proceed.
The hub itself is easy to use - with colored lights as indicators and buttons that are easy to identify.
AFTER finally pairing the devices and arming, the system is easy to use with the phone app and seems to work properly.
I like that there are options for additional devices and that you can either self monitor or pay for a monitoring subscription. We are located in a very remote area and having the ADT name, plus an audible alarm, may be a deterrent to unwelcome visitors.
Overall, I would recommend the system, but just set aside 1-2 hours for the installation and don't hesitate to call the ADT support number for help.

for years one security system is better than this one because this one can do that and that one can do this. Finally one by a respectable company that lets you do it on your own self monitor, and also offers packages and they monitor. The starter pack is great I was able to put sensors on all my windows and my doors I put my motion sensor in the backyard. I have a townhouse and not the greatest neighbors. Right now I'm self monitoring but I like the idea that I could always put it on ADT. If you live near some characters, I recommend getting your hands on one of these. I haven't looked into expansion yet but I get to fill in I'm going to be very pleasantly surprised.

I've been searching for a setup that can replace my current ADT Home security system. Something that is fully customizable to my needs and preferences, but also something that plays well with HomeKit or Alexa without breaking the bank in monthly fees. I thought I would give this setup a try and honestly, it was pretty underwhelming for me.
This equipment came well packaged and the parts were easy to identify and setup. Setup is done by downloading the Blue by ADT app and following the setup instructions. This couldnt have been easier and one of the highlights of this system. The hub, which is the brains of the outfit is pretty large and not something that you could mount on a wall.
This came with four door/window sensors and two motion sensors. This is similar to what I've seen in other systems, but the downside is there is no camera. I can add one according to their website, but one camera will cost me 2/3rds of what the entire system costs and that goes for the doorbell camera as well. This is what really turned me off about the system and is the main reasons i cant recommend this system.
The monitoring fees are reasonable and in line with their competitors and was one of the reasons I considered this system. Overall, I wasnt as impressed with the system as I thought I would be and I would actually recommend looking at other systems over this one.

The Blue by ADT - Home Security System - 10 Piece Starter Kit is an excellent choice for home security.
The recent offerings of easy-to-setup, wireless, app-based home security systems have, in general, been a great option for today's home security needs. ADT has taken the features of this product category and offered a solid, strong-performing choice.
Since a number of other reviews have gone into more depth on the ease of setup and connection - and the genuinely useful app, I won't elaborate here.
However, an undeniable advantage this system has over others is the ADT brand. Thanks to their history of installing full-service security systems in homes for years, the ADT yard signs and window stickers have long been an indication of solid protection. The Blue by ADT - Home Security System - 10 Piece Starter Kit provides that same assurance for a fraction of the cost.

Trash system, just get ring. This system is overpriced and under performs. Sorry contacts constantly go offline. If the system looses wifi connection you will NOT be able to use the app at all to control the system, making the backup cell service not much of a backup. Tech support is the absolute worst. They have no idea what the full features of the system are and blame problems on other manufacturers. Long story short.... Just get a ring alarm. It's cheaper and works better.
