I'm very pleased with these headphones. Others I know in the music industry recommended them and they have turned out to be a good choice. I myself had been a professional musician and since retiring listen to mostly classical piano and symphonic pieces.

They work exactly the way I want them too. This is my second pair, their first pair wore out after constant use.

A good mid-price point overear headphone, the comfort level is not optimal because of the ear pads' smallish size

    Best Headphones I've Owned

Just awesome! The sound quality and volume on these headphones is great. The bass is not overkill, and gives enough for full sounding music, with great clarity. With a semi-open ear design, these feel slimmer than other headphones I have worn. This allows some of the surrounding sound to seep through, so not ideal for really noisy areas. The semi-open ear design allows a better sound-scape, which produces more natural sounds. These are self-adjusting, if that is the right word. There are no notches cut out... you just put these over your ears and pull them down to where they need be. The AKG K 240's are very comfortable to wear. I wear them daily for 4 hours straight. At first, I was worried about possible headaches, since I wear glasses and the ear cups are smaller than I'm use to... but they exert hardly any pressure on your ears. Plus, these headphones are very very light. They feel great! Also, the cable is detachable, so replacement cables are a possibility. The cable it comes with is 10 foot. A bit overkill when you wanna wear these while you are moving because you have to find a place to store it all (pocket), but can be beneficial for PC use, or use on a Soundboard/Mixer, if you need to shuttle yourself around a bit in the same area. Only one downside I have found with these so far. This comes with when you take the headphones off, if you wish to wear them around your neck. Since you cannot adjust them to a certain size, when wearing around your neck, they will always be the smallest fit, so you do not get as much movement range with your head, as you could if you were wearing a pair around your neck which were fully adjusted out. Simply put, for the price, these sound great and are very comfortable. I have/had owned Bose/Sennheiser/Shure headphones, and these AKG's beat them all!

    Fantastic headphones for the price

I've had these headphones for just over 2 years and the notorious issue of the left ear not working had hit me. With $65 to repair them by sending them out to AKG, I decided to Google how to fix them. Quite an easy fix with some patience and a steady hand - now they sound just as good as when I bought them. I just purchased another pair for some quality tracking for multiple individuals, and to have a home/on the go pair. They can take some abuse, but mine live in the box when not on my head. The sound quality is superb, and great for long listening sessions. I mainly use these to mix audio projects and general listening from iTunes/iPhone. They are super comfortable, the cord is quite long (and detachable), and they automatically adjust to fit your head. They don't have the 90 degree outward pivot like some other DJ style headphones, but that isn't the point of these. The accuracy is quite good for the price range.

    Super good! Preferred over K272HD.

The sound quality is fantastic. So many things in the music that I never knew were there before. I use them for vocal work (the reason I even purchased them) and lots of music listening. The bass is weak and I'm one of those who prefer it that way. I also compared them to the much more comfortable K272HD headphones which have the same drivers. I actually prefer the K171 over the K272HD and posted the detail on my wordpress blog (akgk171 dot wordpress dot com). These things sound a little more settled after about 50 hours of use time and my only complaint is that they're uncomfortable for longer listening periods.

Fantastic and wonderful headphone with the best quality sound. Fits over the ears comfortably. Less bass but I am not a bass freak. But hats of to the Harman group of engineers..Amazing quality sound. When I heard music I felt I was in a multiplex theater. In simple words if its no music with AKG headphones then my day isn't complete. If you are planning to buy this it would be your best investment.

I've been a fan of Koss for over 35 years but their latest products have weak bass, support is terrible and no one at Koss seems to care. Best buy had a sale on this product and looking at it's frequency response I decided to buy them. The sound is crisp with plenty of base! After hours in the studio I find they are very comfortable not too much pressure on the ears. In the field the cushions do a remarkable job cancelling outside sound. To further test I fired up the Sota Sapphire turntable with the Yamaha MC-1S cartridge played several of my favorite albums and find the sound just outstanding... Today I'm purchasing the K142 for home use!

I have been using these headphones for gaming sessions of 8+ hours daily. They are EXTREMELY comfortable and cause zero ear pain or anything from being on my head for 8+ hours at a time. Very good sound quality as well. They're great for gaming, just get a clip-on zalman mic and you're good to go. Would recommend this.

I just returned a set of Beats Mixr's for these highly rated (and far less expensive) cans. Bottom line you have to crank up the output level of whatever device you are using to get any volume at all from these. Alomost the exact opposite of the Beats. The Cord is very long, which I like and it does include the 1/8 to 1/4 adapter so that's nice. Still it seems like the set of headphones I'm looking for don't exist. I have an old pair of Sony's that, surprisingly, blow these away. I'm returning these as well and heading somewhere I can sample a wide range of phones before making another purchase. Ugh!
