Beats expectations! The laptop is well built. The surface is solid. The finish is not smooth, but not glossy. It's the heaviest laptop I ever had, but it's not a big deal when you think of a desktop placed in a laptop shell. It also comes with two heavy power adapters. The screen quality is above average. The colors could be a little more vivid. The hardware is outstanding. I upgraded RAM to HyperX 2933MHz CL17 (17-19-19-39) 1.20V 64GB (2x32GB). It is the fastest set you can get for this laptop. I also installed two Samsung 970 EVO Plus 1TB (RAID 0, total of 2TB). Due to bus limitation of 4000MB/s these two drives push 3400MB/s Read and 3200MB/s write speeds. Without RAID 0 they do 2600 MB/s Read and 2400 MB/s Write. This is the best results between AS_SSD_Benchmark, CrystalDiskMark8_0_0a and Passmark Benchmark software. Replacing memory also increased processor performance from 18800 points to 19900 points in Passmark. Lookup their site for references. The LED keyboard lights are sharp. The Alienware software allows to customize a lot of settings. The overclocking of GPU works well two. It boosts the GPU to run in overdrive allowing to play games on Ultra Settings with a 4K scaling instead of 1080p to improve in-game detalization. The touchpad lights up. I love having physical touchpad buttons and a num pad when working with numbers. The PC is a real monster! You will love it as much as I do! It is also a good investment when you get ready to sell it when it's time. Thanks everyone and always do your research first.

OK if you're fine with backlight bleeding.

IPS glow and backlight bleeding around the edges. At around $3,000 after tax, this is not acceptable to me. Also, the plastic bezel was cheap and loose in spots, particularly where the backlight bleeding was (left side, bottom). Dell needs better QC for a high ticket item like this. Aside from the screen, which seems like a cost cutting measure, the rest of the computer was well built, especially the keyboard, which was best-in-class. The laptop is huge and takes 2 power supplies (it comes with 330W and 180W power bricks). I was a bit surprised by the dual power bricks, which does limit setup/portability options. This is really a desktop replacement. In the end, the poor screen quality/QC let me to return this.

I LOVE this machine!!!! It's fully upgradeable, every part! Love the rgb keyboard and TouchPad. It has a beautiful display. I thought it would get hot because it's a gaming laptop, but, it doesn't. It stays super cool. It has a good cooling system & ventilation.

I needed a laptop that could run architectural and construction rendering programs I need to use and this one has done a wonderful job. I typically hate all laptops outside of my Apple MacBooks because they always seem so slow but this one is amazing and I’d absolutely buy it again

I am loving my new Area 51 laptop! This thing is a beast. It does require two power supplies which is a little annoying except for the fact that it will run whatever you throw at it. Every game I have played I played at max settings and they all played smooth as glass. This is my second Alienware Laptop, my last one crashed and bricked on me, always buy the extended warranty! The extended warranty from my old laptop paid for the bulk of the price of this one and I made sure to purchase the extended warranty again on this new laptop. Alienware computers are like buying a sportscar, they run twice as fast and burn out twice as fast. All in all it is a fantastic laptop. They did get it right with the new coating they put on the shell too, it has not shown wear and when I have gotten anything on it the marks wiped off easily. It is a beauty.

great performance, great battery life, great display quality. definitely would recommend, at the sale price I received it at -- keep in mind, my review is based solely on receiving this at a 30% discounted sale price. I would not have paid list price for this product, but am extremely satisfied with it given the price point I paid.

Solid machine, very fast, runs the Adobe suite very well out the box. It's a bit heavy and having two power supplies is a bit of a challenge, but I am not expecting to use it much off the desk.

I've had this laptop for a few months now. It is not as fast as a desktop, although it claims to have desktop processors/vid card in it. It does tend to get hot when working hard, even though I have a fan tablet underneath it to keep it cool but it still gets too hot to even lay my palm on it to type. The external monitor is not recognizing it as a gaming laptop for some reason, so I don't get all the options for the external display. Maybe I need a different cable since using HDMI? Battery life, I can't say anything about it since it's always plugged in.

This thing is a beast. I did have to limit refresh on some Steam games when playing on the native monitor since 300 is just to beasty for some of my favorite titles. I have pushed this thing I think - running MULTIPLE high performance AAA game titles at the same time on two monitors. My secondary monitor is 4k. Almost everything is fine playing at maximum settings and maximum resolution, even while running a second program at maximum settings. I've found nothing to complain about with this machine, it was a great purchase

They got it right with the R2 revision!

I previously owned the similar spec-ed "R1" Alienware Area 51M. The "R2" crushes it in several aspects! * The specs are obviously better. The 10th gen i7 is a slight improvement but the "SUPER" GPU is significant. Ram is also faster, though I doubt you'd notice. I primarily play WarZone these days. With all settings maxed out at 1080p and Ray Tracing enabled, I'm easily over 120+ FPS with cool temperatures and low fan noise. * The keyboard is more sturdy and feels better to type on * Alienware finally put a clear coat over the surface, so no more discolorations - Particularly important with the Lunar Light! * Cooling is improved. I rarely hear the fans kick on, even when encoding video or playing games Now generally speaking. This is a Desktop Replacement laptop, there are very few laptops that back this power and specs into an laptop form factor. HOWEVER, that means it's also large by 2020 standards. It's absolutely portable, but it's NOT something you're going to bust out on an air plane in most cases. As a result, I don't think you can reasonably criticize the size. If you don't like the size of this unit, you bought the wrong laptop. The only CON I have is in agreement with the prior reviewer. The screen does have a fair amount of backlight bleed. However, that's not uncommon for a high refresh rate panel and it's really not notice when in use, such as when gaming.

Basically everthing you can ask for in a laptop. Will play any game you throw at it. Also way over powered for daily work. Only down side is its not very portable. The power brick(s) are as heavy as the laptop itself. If you plan to take this on a trip you better search for a nice backpack to fit and carry it.

very solid laptop for gaming, even if the performance on gaming alone doesn’t improve for having a intel i7 desktop processor version , temps are good 70 to 85 on AAA titles . witcher 3 95 fps, breakpoint 70 fps , build quality is excellent for a gaming laptop.

Found this on sale out of the blue and grabbed it before it was gone. Installed 64gb 2933 ram and a second 1TB SSD. Laptop is still a beast and the 150W 2070S has plenty of power. Here are some game benchmarks in 1080p Ultra setting. Ghost Wildlands: 77fps, Shadow of Tomb Raider: 147 on highest preset, Far Cry New Dawn: 113, Far Cry 5: 130, AC Odyssey 89. Even though these sell on ebay for 2k or more they are still worth it. Great build quality, speakers on par with 2021 Legion series and fans never get loud. Laptop is always cool even on high thermals. Only laptops that can beat this are Legion 7/7i 3080 and MSI GP/GE 3080's. My Aorus 17x can edge it out very slightly with the 200W 2080. Barely, literally 2-3 fps at best.
