I have always purchased the less expensive desktop computers, then upgraded everything from the power supply, to the memory, to the video card. My Best Buy had this Alienware in stock, and since I had always wanted one, I gave it a shot. This machine is a beast! It handles everything. I added the LG Freesync monitor and it handles every game I have tossed at it with ease. It is quiet, has not gotten hot at all, functions as my main desktop as well, and the thing just looks cool. I do not like the Optane memory and will be adding an SSD drive instead. That's not a complaint, just a preference. If you have been wondering if Optane is faster than SSD, it is not.

    Absolute Beast of a Machine

I've long been skeptical of pre-built gaming PCs. Too many of them are overpriced, unattractive, and can't be easily upgraded. But the Alienware Aurora is entirely different. It's sleek, highly customizable, and has handled everything I've thrown at it with ease. If you want a PC that can handle high-resolution gaming, VR, and pretty much any other graphics-intensive task there is, this Aurora R7 configuration deserves your attention. PROS: - Awesome futuristic design. With sleek silver panels and LED lights on the front and sides, it's easily one of the most attractive gaming desktops. There is a sturdy handle atop the computer that makes it easy to move around. The LED lights are easily configured via the pre-installed Command Center app. You can choose from an almost limitless amount of colors and even a unique color for each side if you'd like. - Tons of ports - probably more than you'll ever need. I counted 10 USB ports on the back and three more on the front. There are also a couple of USB-C ports for newer devices. Other ports include an optical out, Ethernet, multiple DisplayPort connections, and the standard headphone and microphone jacks. You'll be able to connect multiple monitors, external drives, etc., with no problem. The USB ports on the front are especially convenient and easy to access. - Super easy to upgrade. The side panel comes off with a quick press of a button. The graphics card, RAM, hard drive, and power supply can all be removed without using any tools. There are two open bays for 2.5" solid state drives and two open memory slots supporting up to 64GB of RAM. - Incredible gaming performance at high resolutions such as 2560 x 1440 (QHD). Rise of the Tomb Raider (high settings): 80+ FPS. Rocket League: 175+ FPS. Far Cry 5: 80+ FPS. Destiny 2: 90+ FPS. You get the idea. This machine will handle any game you throw at it. I wasn't able to test with a 4K resolution, but I'd imagine there would be a noticeable hit to performance. But for 1080p or 1440p gaming, the included GTX 1080 is the sweet spot. - The i7-8700 processor and 16GB of RAM make this machine a beast for other intensive tasks as well. Dozens of browser tabs open while downloading a 50GB game and exporting a 4K video from Premier Pro? No problem. This computer is a total workhorse and is ready to handle practically any multitasking situation. - Surprisingly quiet. Even while running all of the games mentioned above, fan noise was never an issue. You can easily see fan and thermal status using the included Alienware software. CONS: - There is some bloatware included, but thankfully it's minimal. Games like Candy Crush and Disney Magic Kingdoms were the first things I uninstalled. - Intel Optane Memory provides a nice boost to drive speed, but it still pales in comparison to a real solid state drive. One of my first upgrades will be to replace the Optane memory with an NVMe SSD. - The included 460W power supply is sufficient for the default configuration, but leaves little room for major upgrades in the future. If you want to add a second graphics card or max out the amount of drives in the system, you'll likely have to upgrade the power supply as well. - No Blu-ray drive. A DVD drive is included, but at this price, a Blu-ray drive should be standard. Luckily it's a fairly cheap and easy upgrade. - A mouse and keyboard are included, but they are fairly basic. I purchased the Alienware Pro Gaming keyboard which integrates perfectly with the Alienware Command Center and matches the same LED lighting that I choose for the computer. OVERALL: This is by far the most capable and customizable computer I've ever owned. This particular configuration of the Aurora R7 should satisfy all but the most hardcore of gamers. I wish Dell wouldn't have skimped on the power supply wattage and optical drive, but that's hardly a deal-breaker. The machine is a perfect mix of design, performance, and upgradability with many years of life ahead of it. Highly recommended!

I was quite pleasantly surprised on how fast this computer can perform my daily work using Adobe software. Mostly Photoshop and After Effects. I added 16gb more for a total of 32gb of DDR4 3200mhz and a 500gb SSD drive. I couldn't be happier. I'm not much of a gamer, but if I was, this machine would handle it with a breeze. Go out and get this computer you'll be quite happy.

This PC is amazing. Every game I run on it is at full ultra settings. I play Assassins Creed Origins, Far Cry 5, Fortnite, PUBG they all are maxed out and they run smoothly. I also love the lights on it. You can change them to whatever color you want and it works with my Alienware mouse too. I would highly recommend this PC.

This Alienware desktop computer is an excellent gaming computer with top-of-the-tier specs as expected for a PC in this price range. Honestly, this thing blows my mind for a computer, as I've never gamed with anything this powerful before. With one of the most powerful i7 processors (i7-8700), the GTX 1080, and 16GB of RAM, almost any game you can think of will run as smooth as butter. In addition, the PC is ready to go with plenty of ports and power for VR. Many years from now, this PC will still be able to handle the most intensive games on the market. The fans run quietly with just a faint buzz noticeable and no annoying on/off or struggling. The visual appearance of the machine is great, with a decently small form factor as well as lighting on the sides of the case. The machine features an extensive number of ports ranging from 4+ USB 2.0 ports, 6+ USB3 ports, a USB-C port, multiple graphics ports and plenty of audio input and output ports. Setting up is easy, with no noticeable bloatware to deal with and a sleek, minimal install that includes all the programs you need to handle graphics and system configurations but nothing extra. You can go from plugging in this PC, to gaming, in under 30 minutes. I can’t recommend this PC enough. It is a top-of-the-tier machine with specs that will leave it at the top-of-the-tier for many years to come. It is VR ready and has enough ports and power to handle any uses or applications, whether for gaming, multimedia, or crypto-mining. One thing to consider, and this may not be obvious to everyone, is that this gaming computer is really able to handle anything you want to do that is resource intensive. I put AutoCAD on here and it runs without any slowdown. I've also installed Norton and a VPN, both of which provide no slowdown WHILE doing gaming or AutoCAD. I've put on Photshop, Acrobat Pro, etc. and all of them run without any slowdown. My point in saying all of this is that for business, if you want a machine that will provide an employee with the most effective machine possible while taking full use of the employee's time while at work, buy this gaming computer. It may not seem like a big deal, but to be able to work at a faster pace because the computer is faster, will make them more efficient and productive. Often times we don't see the forrest through the trees as the saying goes.

    Cheaper than a Customer Build

TL;DR I priced out similar builds on Amazon and I found it hard to get to the same price with about the same performance. Added screenshots of Heaven & Userbench. I have not tried to OC the GTX1080 yet so that is at stock clocks. Let me start by saying that I normally custom build my PCs. I have gamed on a Ryzen system I built just over a year ago and it was great but I decided to switch over to an Intel I7 8xxx system. Note: I bought the 1070 version of the R7 and a day later BestBuy had the 1080 version on their site for $1,299 so I quickly returned it for this one... who wouldn't. When I was back on their site a day or two later it was at $1,399 which is still a good deal. Also, I cannot speak to the performance of the Intel Optane setup because before I even started it up the first time I added a Samsung 970 M.2 SSD as my primary drive. Pros: -Super quiet. I have to be playing operations in BF1 for a bit before the GPU fans kick in. I have not touched the fan curves yet because it seems to run rather cool at stock settings. -Attractive design. I normally go for clear cases with shrouded basement but this case is attractive enough. -Water Cooled PC keeps that I7 8700 running cool. -Fast. Though the Dell 1080 isn't the best on the market it does run BF1 on my LG 34" ultra-wide at 2560x1080 144htz refresh at 140+ FPS with everything ultra besides ground clutter and a few things I turn down because of preference. -USB-C ports on front and back. Con: -Ram included isn't the best and I have read some issues about other popular sticks not being "validated" so you are left with limited options if you want to upgrade. This seems to be the real bottleneck of the whole computer. -Case is crowded. I know I listed the case as a positive but with the design there isn't a whole lot of room inside the case for airflow. I have not seen temp issues so its more of a preference than a real con. -I did not check the sticker because I would have to remove the PSU to look but I believe its only a 450w power supply. PC was a nice upgrade initially but a memory DIMM failed after a coupe of months and it has been a struggle to get customer support that doesn't end up costing $$$ for something that should absolutely last more than a couple of months for $1400.

First a few wins: 1. Powerful: A very fast 8th Gen i7-8700 processor coupled with 16GB(2x8GB) fast memory and a GTX 1080 combination is no slouch. 2. Expandability: This has room for additional storage, 2 free DIMM slots and room for an additional graphics(more on this below). 3. Connectivity: More than a dozen USB(2+3) ports, a USB type c, Built in WiFi powered by Killer. 4. Pricing: Offered at a sub $1300 price point, I could barely build an equivalent DIY setup at that price. 5. Aesthetics: Typical Alienware. Looks like a machine built for gaming. Now, there are a few curious cons: 1. This config doesn't have an SSD, which is unacceptable in 2018 and that too from Alienware. They do include Intel Optane based solution but it is not comparable to SSD based setup, regardless of what the marketing material says. (Shame) 2. The installed power supply (~450W) is unable to support if you wanted to add an additional graphics card. You will need to replace the power supply as well. 3. Doesn't support Thunderbolt 3.

Alienware Aurora R7 is an excellent gaming PC came with 8th Gen Intel® Core™ i7-8700 6 core processor with twelve-way processing performance and coupled with 16GB DDR4 RAM, 2 TB 7200 RPM HDD with Intel Optane Memory. Intel Optane works perfectly to boost performance forexisting hard drive. However, i will be adding SSD soon on this amazing PC to boost more performance. The case is very slick and i love the color changing LED panel and it is treat to watch. Inside there is plenty of room for additional drives and RAM. One really nice feature is that the 16GB of memory came in two DIMM's, leaving another two memory slots free if you'd like to expand the memory to 32GB. GTX 1080 is amazing graphics card with 8GB GDDR5. It comes with three DisplayPort ports and one HDMI port. I was able to use my ASUS 32" 4K monitor to pair up with the PC, I must admit that the graphics are simply superb. It handles all type of games without any issues. It has 7 SuperSpeed 10Gbs USB 3.1 ports with ultra-fast data connections to transfer large files rapidly and 6 USB 2.0 ports for quick plug-and-play connectivity for your devices and accessories. Killer Wireless-AC 1535 wireless LAN connects to both wireless frequencies (802.11a/b/g/n/ac) for the fastest available signal. Killer Game Networking LAN also lets you plug into wired 10/100/1000 networks. Bluetooth 4.1 interface syncs with compatible devices Wirelessly transfer photos, music and other media between the desktop and your Bluetooth-enabled cell phone or MP3 player, or connect Bluetooth wireless accessories. This PC outperformed my existing gaming PC with GTX 1070 and i must admit that this PC exceeded expectations with processer and graphics performance at least 40% margin without SSD. I am using this as HTPC also connected with Epson 5030UB projector with Plex Media Server, Kodi and CyberLink Power DVD setup. Due to high end graphics card, the picture quality is really crystal clear on big screen for Blu-ray Discs and 4K videos. It runs very silent On the complaints side, the included mouse and keyboard are extremely cheap, and i have replaced it with my existing gaming keyboard. If you can replace the keyboard and mouse with your own, this PC is a really good for gaming or HTPC. It comes with DVD drive and with this price they should have included All-in-all, this a great pre-configured gaming PC at a great price with outstading performance.

Although I would have liked to build my own computer, this Alienware computer is mostly everything I wanted in a gaming PC, mostly that 1080 graphics card that is nearly impossible to find nowadays. This computer is very fast, and has no trouble at all running all my games at maximum settings in 4K. 4K gaming is simply incredible, and this machine handles it like the beast that it is. As far as prebuilt computers go, I highly recommend this one if you're lucky enough to find one in store! Only thing to be aware of is it does not include an SSD, which is highly recommended for gaming. Unfortunately you'll have to buy one separately, but installation is super easy.

Exchanged a new IBuypower system for this due to the GPU failing and giving me a black screen. This Alienware system is a huge improvement. One thing I notice however is that the Alienware Command Center software that controls system cooling and lighting is highly suspect since for several weeks I was receiving an error message regarding a missing .dll file and the thermal control would not work. For some reason however It is working now. I noticed that it is an issue quite a few people have experienced on online forums. It appears to be an issue with Windows 10 compatibility. I don't know why it started working all of a sudden but overall I love the performance of this machine. PS: love the Intel Optane memory which acts sort of like a ram drive and produces speeds similar to a SSD for a less cost. As soon as my power supply fails I will upgrade it (it's a bit wimpy), otherwise it's a great buy.

I figured Alienware was a good choice for me since I did not feel like building my own computer this go around. The 16G Optane is supposed to help the 2TB HD perform like an SSD. So far I am happy with all the USB ports and the overall build and look. Just an FYI it seemed to take hours the first time I turned it on for all of the updates to be applied. Please be patient and just let Windows do its thing. I don’t think this is the 8700K but it appears to be doing some kind of auto over and under CPU clocking, seen the GHz as low as 1 (after boot up and nothing is open) and as high as 4.3 depending on what is running.

My hand built PC died after the third rebuild. I wanted a gaming PC without the hassle of researching parts, ordering them and assembling the final PC. My son has had two Alienware PCs The exterior is very understated which was fine by me. You can control the color of the accents on the outside of the case. The first thing I noticed after connecting everything was that this PC is whisper quiet. The water cooling works flawlessly. You would be hard pressed to know it was even running if you weren't looking at your monitor. The CPU isn't the fastest on the market.. a 6 core I7. But, unless you're a stats freak this is MORE than enough horsepower for virtually anything you'd want to run. On the same note the Nvidia GTX 1080 video card can run virtually every game currently on the market at 60+ frames per second. The games I play typically run in the 80-90 fps area. The 16GB of Optane memory make the 2TB platter drive feel like an SSD Frequetnly the MFG included software is more bloatware than anything. Not so here. The included Alienware softwrae keeps you up to date on ALL your drives. One of the first updates my PC received was a BIOS update... In 20 years of working as a tech I don't remember seeing included software this useful. I am thoroughly happy with my purchase and would buy again in a heartbeat.

When this computer came up on sale I tried on multiple sites to price the same parts to build my own gaming rig and found it less expensive to just buy this prebuilt system. I have to say I am really impressed with the setup. I opted for the GTX 1080 over the 1070 for $100 difference and recommend anyone else do the same. I also added an SSS I had and reimaged the system. Boot times are at least 50% faster. I left the Optane in to speed up the included HDD. The combination really makes a difference. And I was able to get a great state with a warranty. I called Alienware support to help with guiding through the reimagined to make sure I had the correct bios settings having never used an optane before. I have to say the support was pretty great. This was on sale for about $400 less than the msrp and a steal. If you buy it you won’t regret it.

So I purchased this computer a month and a day ago, I was ecstatic when it arrived at my doorstep. I've only ever owned a macbook pro [on my third pro now] but wanted to get more serious with my gaming habit so I decided to purchase a computer strictly for gaming. Overall in comparison to my mac, it didnt move as fast [probably due to lacking a ssd] but the graphics on my games were dramatically better and I loved how it had so many usb ports for all of my devices. Also this machine was fairly quiet even during high performance. My gaming experience was way better with this computer than it ever was on my mac. Now the bad news... so today Mark's the day I return this computer back to best buy. Last night it crashed, during the loading screen in League of Legends, every thing froze and was completely un responsive. When the computer shut off I was never able to get it to boot back to the windows screen. After 3 hours of windows support and multiple failed attempts of trying to boot a replacement OS thru a flash drive, I gave up. For the money I paid, this computer should have lasted more than 31 days and I'm not interested in spending money to fix a newly purchased computer. RIP

I'm not a super builder of gaming rigs. At least not anymore, which is why I bought the R7 desktop. I wanted to get back into gaming and this was a simple solution. I have zero problems with this computer. I turn it on and 2 minutes later I'm setup to play online. To be fair, that's all I do on this computer. Nothing else. Aside from the abundance of crap thats loaded onto the desktop, the computer itself is great. The graphics hold up, the speed holds up, i haven't experienced any slow down with the settings on high/ultra when gaming. It does what I wanted it to do and that's what matters.

When I ran benchmarks it scored in the top 5% of systems. The machine is whisper quite. The liquid cooling is also a plus. The only thing I would have changed is having a ssd.
