Lunar white is definitely a little off white compared to the white of a g305 or the Corsair K70 white pbt keys. The low profile switches are just between the speed switches and blue switches from my experience anyway. They're not too loud or clicky compared to blues but would benefit in noise reduction with o rings. Alienware's software for RGB customization isn't nearly as nice as the icue software. This keyboard also lacks a wrist pad. I'd recommend getting this when it's on sale and you're in need of a white mechanical keyboard with RGB, otherwise... pass on this if you're able to get a k70, a custom white mechanical or don't care for the white/black asthetic. There are a lot of other rgb mechanicals I'd recommend for the money.

I really like the feel of the keyboard. I've used plenty of keyboards in the past but I always end up using this one a lot more. The typing is really responsive and confortable for long periods of gaming or typing.

This is my first true gaming keyboard and I wasn't sure what to expect from a mechanical keyboard using low profile red switches. I have been used to typing on a keyboard with standard profile CHERRY MX Blues, and although the clicky clacky sounds are quite satisfying from them, this keyboard was a breath of quiet, fresh air!
Construction-wise, the keyboard in its entirety is mostly comprised of plastic, yet feels very sturdy. The keys themselves are indeed low-profile and actuating them requires less effort than my previous keyboard. I can see why a keyboard like this would make your gaming situation more advantageous. The keys appear as if they float over the flat base and this design makes it a much easier keyboard to periodically clean as there is no basin for your cookie crumbs to collect in.
The typical caps-lock, scroll-lock and number lock LEDS are non existent. Instead, the key itself will illuminate to a cool blue color indicating the lock status of each key. It threw me off at first as if the keys were not calibrated or something. To run this keyboard, it will require two USB ports. I'm guessing one for connectivity and the other for powering the RGB lights, and they can get bright! You actually don't lose an additional USB port because the keyboard has a pass-through port on the backside of it. So just think of it as if you were moving whatever port you use to power the keyboard closer to you. There is also a dedicated volume mute and volume wheel. I find the volume wheel ever so convenient.
To customize this keyboard, you'll need to download the Alienware Command Center software. There is a lot of RGB lighting customization you can do to the keyboard as well as define keyboard macros. I didn't really try macros as I have no use for them for the games I play at the moment, but the lighting has plenty of customization. Then you can bind your customizations to specific games, provided you launch the game from within the Command Center. Maybe one for FPS, then one for RTS, and another for MMO.
I did opt for the Lunar Light color because it looks amazing and it's a change from the typical dark keyboard. Out of the box, it looks sooooo fresh. But like a pair of fresh white Nikes, it will be a pain to keep clean. I guess you can always buy new WSAD keys for these switches.....
The only other thing I wish it had was 3rd party support for smart lighting so that the keyboard lights can be synced with them. I couldn't find anywhere in the Command Center to enable such a thing. It's not a deal breaker by any means, but if that's important to you, you won't find it here at the moment.
Thank you for your feedback and review. We are sorry to hear that the design of your keyboard has not met all your expectations. The contents of your review will be used to help improve now and future Dell products. If you come across any questions, issues, or concerns, please visit the Support Page of your gaming keyboard.

Your gaming RIG never looked so SEXY !!

WOW, is this AW 510k mechanical keyboard unbelievably SEXY?
It’s a _perfect_ match for the Alienware Aurora R9 and 610M mouse. Particularly once you configure your themes in Alienware Command Center, you’ll feel such ownership and complete control over all elements of your gaming rig.
PROS
+ USB pass-thru for attaching 610M mouse dongle
+ < less power usage, less distance, less interference than using tower usb slot >
+ single USB for RGB lights and keyboard DO WORK (if you don’t need the above pass-thru)
+ BRIGHT and VIBRANT configurable color keys
+ seven different "zones" of color control
+ solid sturdy build construction despite lightweight plastic body
+ durable mechanical Cherry MX keys (vs thin membrane)
+ fold out feet to adjust keyboard height and angle
+ usb pass-thru (requires 2nd usb physical connection)
+ volume scroll wheel is great
+ media control keys plus shortcut keys
CONS
-wired keyboard vs wireless (required for RGB backlight power)
-dual USB cord occupies 2 slots, though using one works fine
<2nd usb appears to be dedicated for usb pass through only >
-downslope keys felt awkward at first before becoming acclimated
-keys are squishy quiet, not clicky crisp for my preference
-unsightly thick braided dual USB cable (to avoid batteries)
CONCLUSION
I really wish Best Buy rating system allowed ½ stars. This product is way above a 4-star, yet just a tad bit shy of a perfect 5-star like I awarded the Aurora R9 and the 610M gaming mouse.
Contemplating which way to lean, I walked in and took only one look in my dark dining room <read: de facto game room :> and the super bright and vibrant colors spoke to me. This guy deserves all 5 !

I'm really happy with this keyboard. The low profile makes it a great choice for my keyboard mount, and it still has great key feel and travel. For me, a responsive mechanical keyboard makes my typing much faster and more accurate. This keyboard is quite a bit quieter than my other mechanical keyboards. The keys seem to have much tighter tolerances so there's no horizontal jiggling, if that makes sense.
The layout is really nice for a general purpose keyboard -- I love the scrolling wheel for a volume control -- that wheel and the mute key are really easy to pick out making them very convenient for controlling sound, dealing with phone calls and interruptions, etc.
The instructions it came with were really really vague. I finally figured out that the USB connectors had symbols on them, one for the keyboard and one for the USB port on the keyboard. The support website was a bit confusing too, since it seemed to want a Dell Tag number to be able to get support for the keyboard, and of course the keyboard doesn't have one. Finally I noticed I could just scroll down the page to get what I needed. Mine arrived with the Windows key disabled and it took a bunch of head-scratching and searching to figure out how to enable it.
Now that I got it set up, I'm really enjoying it. The keyboard is solid and has some good weight to it, so it has a very stable typing feel and doesn't slide around on the desk at all, which is great for my articulated keyboard mount. The keys have a very normal keyboard layout so it's really easy to use and you don't have to remember any weird key locations for general use.
Aside from the confusing setup, the keyboard lighting could use some improvement. It doesn't get extremely bright at the brightest, and it is really hard to see the alternate functions printed on some of the keys because the symbols are pretty fine and there's just not enough light shining through them to see what's what. I tried to take a picture, but I just can't capture the brightness difference of the key symbols. I guess my phone has better vision than I do! But in reality, the symbols on the function keys are really hard to make out. It's not enough of a problem to cost the review a star, though. The keyboard is awesome overall.

TLDR: The Alienware 510k is a very polished keyboard that gamers will appreciate, though its high price point may throw off some...
Design:
The 510k integrates the Alienware Legend aesthetic well. It has a simplistic but futuristic design, and floating key architecture. The top of the keyboard which houses the keys is aluminum, but the rest is plastic. Though the build is mostly plastic, I found the build to be very solid and noticed barely any flex. I also noticed that the keys themselves had a soft touch feel to them that I loved.
Comfort:
The 510k does not include a wrist rest, but my time with it proved that it was not needed, as the keyboard is nicely comfortable. There are three height adjustments, which I thought was a nice touch, and I mostly used the middle one.
Software:
The Alienware Command Center software is not nearly as easy to use as the Corsair ICUE software, and is complicated to use. I have had to redo a theme multiple times because of this.
Performance:
Since the 510k has Cherry MX Low Profile Red key switches, the travel distance is reduced compared to usual mechanical keyboard switches. I find this to my liking, but this is purely based on opinion. The switches are very bouncy and responsive, and I found (much to my surprise) that my reaction times in games like Modern Warfare increased noticeably. The only thing I didn’t like about the keys was that the key caps had some wobble, which I did not appreciate owing to its relatively high price point. If you are worried about the noise that the keys may produce, then you are worrying for no reason. The keys are very quiet when typing.
Conclusion
The Alienware 510k's design is en pointe, as with the comfort and feel of the keys, though they had a little wobble. The software is not the best out there, but the performance of this keyboard when gaming is phenomenal. I did not notice any lag, nor any keystrokes going unnoticed, and the switches greatly added to the experience. If you are using this keyboard for work as well, then keep in mind that in the first few days with it, you may take some time getting used to it. Overall, this keyboard is great for both gaming and typing (though for typing enthusiasts, I would recommend the 410k with its cherry mx brown switches), and I recommend this for those who can find it on a deal, because its price point is slightly higher than it should be, in my opinion.

The Alienware - AW510K is not only a good keyboard but it outshines other keyboards in multiple areas. Setting up the keyboard was easy and within minutes the Alienware Command Center popped up on my computer ready to set up my games and personalization. Not only does it keep track of all the games but I was able to set up and save controls for each game. The command Center is also where you set up your different lighting effects for your keyboard. This is where It got hard and could be made more user-friendly, but once I figured it out I had my keyboard doing all different lighting effects. Not only did I have it set up beautifully with the rainbow lighting effect but you can also set your keyboard to interact with each key strike. I have the rainbow effect with the Rainbow drops and it is the most beautiful thing I have ever seen. There are so many effects that I'm excited to try out them all. I was also able to change the color of specific keys which really helped me. Not only did this keyboard improved my gaming but it improved my typing. I noticed how I'm excited to type now and typing faster than I did. The responsiveness of the keys are fast and the feel is smooth. The build quality of the keyboard is also nice and feels it will last years. Overall this is a great keyboard and I recommend it to any gamer or even someone who types a lot. My only suggestion would be to give yourself time to understand the Alienware Command Center and how personalize your keyboard.

Alienware - AW510K Wired Mechanical CHERRY MX Low Profile Red Switch Gaming Keyboard with RGB Back Lighting - Lunar Light
The AW510K RGB Mechanical was quite a surprise to me. I have been a dedicated fan of mechanical keyboard since they first became a thing for gaming some years back. So although I have had different Cherry key types I never tried the red switches. I kind of depend on the click you associate with mechanical keys but the red keys are mostly silent without the click. But these keys were so smooth I really ended up liking them a lot. In this Dell version the key travel is almost notebook like. But in gaming I found these keys not just very smooth but also very fast. It didn’t take long before I really liked the feel. And as can be expected this keyboard is also great for office work. Maybe better than most because of how quiet it is. This was also my first white keyboard or as Dell calls is Lunar Light. When lit up they lighting seems to make the whole keyboard feel almost neon. The keyboard is well equipped although you do have to use the function keys for the media keys. The keyboard has a few onboard lighting modes without using the Alienware software. I mostly left it on a rolling color that matches the lighting on my PC. I do have one issue that is very common for keyboards with a USB passthrough and that is the cable. It's a heavy braided two wire USB connection. I have other RGB keyboards that are a single connection but they lack the USB passthrough. So I guess this is the price you pay for this feature. I also have long term concerns on what the white will look like overtime. But out of the box this keyboard is a joy to use and game with. The lighting is bright and at least in the white version very unique as the lighting seems to make the whole keyboard glow unlike most RGB keyboards where, just the keys themselves light up.

I am reviewing the Lunar Light (the white-colored) version of this product.
The Alienware AW510K Mechanical Gaming Keyboard and it's RGB LED lights on each key are of perfect brightness and make them easier to see with perfect clarity and precision for various computer tasks, even in the dark. I plugged this into an old Samsung laptop and was able to start using it right away with no issues. I also plugged this into various other devices around the home with no issues whatsoever - and it, of course, works perfectly well with desktop PCs. It's a great keyboard for the price point it's going for. This is a high-quality mechanical keyboard with several useful features including USB port passthrough and the usual media controls. It will require connecting to two USB ports, one for powering the lights and the other for connectivity, so that's why the passthrough is there to cancel out the use of that second port.
If you connect it to a PC running Windows 10, it will prompt you to download and install the Alienware Command Center software from the Microsoft Store, free of charge. Once running, it is a bit difficult at first to locate where and how to change the lighting, but once set, it is easy to find again and can pretty much set-it-and-forget-it once you have it to your liking. You also can program the color for each key individually, which allows you to make yours as unique as it can be.
In the end, this Alienware gaming keyboard has a solid build to it, is easy to use, and the design is a step above most others in this range. The pricing is fair for what you get out of it, and it's a reliable performer that won't glitch up on you while making your gaming experience more pleasant and fun. I wouldn't expect anything less from Alienware - this keyboard does not disappoint.

The Alienware 510k is an excellent mechanical keyboard for any type of use. Built with class leading Cherry MX red switches each keystroke is smooth, quiet, and confident in motion. Keep in mind, this uses linear switches so there's no bump or click in the keystroke feedback, but this also makes it quieter to type on with minimal lag between actuations, the latter being essential for top notch gaming performance.
Oriented as a gaming keyboard, you can use the Alienware Command Center app to change the backlit color effects and even program custom macro keys. There's a custom color wheel available to individualize sections of the keyboard to your liking, which also includes about a dozen transition lighting effects. The menu to create custom macro keys seems somewhat straight forward in the Command Center app, but I've yet to try it out. However, being able to program a custom set of keystrokes into a custom assigned button is a tremendous advantage for gamers.
While the 510k is made as a gaming keyboard, it's a quality mechanical keyboard overall. It's well built and excellent for typing with a volume control dial that integrates perfectly with Windows 10. It even includes 2 height adjustment risers to offer a choice in the keyboard tilt. If there's any knock on this keyboard, it's that it's described as low profile, but it's clearly a full size keyboard with what's about an 8 gauge wire coming out the rear. If anything, depending on your setup, the thick wire can be a bit cumbersome. The reason for the added girth is that it actually houses 2 USB cables, one for the keyboard input, and the other for the lighting. On the bright side, the keyboard offers a convenient USB port at the rear which is quite handy.
If you're in the market for a well built, quiet, mechanical Windows keyboard, you can't go wrong with the Alienware 510k. It's excellent for general use with programmable macro functions that offer a great advantage in gaming.

I’ve had my gaming PC for awhile now and this is my first mechanical keyboard. I absolutely love it! Membrane keyboards like the one I had been using are mushy and quiet. When it comes to gaming, you want something that is deliberate and punchy, but not too loud. That’s exactly what you get with this keyboard and its Cherry keys.
In the box, you will find the keyboard itself and the owner’s manual. When you plug the keyboard in for the first time, know that you will need two open USB-A ports. There is no special setup required and the Alienware Command Center will automatically be downloaded. Through that software, you can customize the keyboard, albeit there are limitations. Five modes come stored on the keyboard and you can cycle through them by pressing FN and F3. While I cannot find a way to adjust the speed of the modes that cycle through the colors of the rainbow, this isn’t a problem for me because I just want my keyboard lighting to match the blue lights in my desktop tower. In the standard backlighting mode, every key on the keyboard can be changed individually. If you want the WASD keys to be a different color from everything else, you can do that. If you just want one key to be a different color, you can do that too. There are dedicated keys for volume control and music/ video playback. The roller for volume control is perfect. Height is also adjustable and there is a full sized numeric keypad on the right.
Long-term durability on this keyboard has yet to be tested, but the build quality is excellent. I would never expect to have any issues with this product, but I trust Alienware as a brand to help me correct it if anything comes up. If you’re in the market for a really nice mechanical keyboard, I think this one is a great option!

This is an amzing keyboard.
Quality of the keys, whole frame and the whole thing is great.
Force to press the key is right in the midle, and the key travel is more than comfortable. It doesn't go too deep, but it's not a superficial as my laptop. There is no click sound, and I can feel the keyboard feedback in my fingers. And the keyboard doesn't slips on my desk.
So as a keyboard, it is more than comfortable. It's perfect.
Now on regards to lighting, wow, there are tons of effects, profiles and modes you can program. It's very cool. I was showing to everyone coming into home.
Pricewise, yeah, it's not low, but this is not an average keyboard. This is a pro keyboard. So, to me, sometimes I like to get what I feel I earned and this is one of those things. I feel it is worth every penny.
My only wish - which would be beyond amazing - it is to have a wireless version of this.

The keyboard looks great and functions as I expected it to.
Ez to clean witch is always a plus. The leds are bright as turning on a room light at night.
If i had any problems with it at all... id say its with the software from Alienware. However i cant really blame the physical keyboard for that.
I use it from gaming and typing about 10 hours a day. And its still rocking.
Overall im happy. Payed about 130 for it. So try and get it on sale! If i had to pay 150... it be pushing it. Honesty at 150 id say it better be made of all metal. Lol hell at 150 i better be able to put it in my dishwasher to clean it.
Jokes aside from what i payed, i like it. And would be happy to tell others to at least look at it.

Holy cow. I didn't know this sort of keyboard existed until a few weeks ago. I'm still getting used to the sensitivity and the spacing, I had my old Logitech Wave keyboard for 13 years, so this is a huge difference for me. Oh mama, this feels so good to type on and sounds as good, too. Everything about using this makes me happy. I'm making a lot more typos but that will go in time, as I'm also typing faster than before. I made some compromises in my choice of a keyboard. I REALLY wanted dedicated media keys but then I realized I don't watch stuff too much on my computer to necessitate them anymore. The volume roller was the clincher for me, I use headphones a lot and read that the Corsair ones are super-sensitive (and those weird spacebar keys, blegh) so trying this out last night was a dream. It rolls smoothly and only goes in increments of about five, which may be too low for some but is exactly what I wanted. The lighting on this, oh my. I built my first PC in ages around Christmas time and couldn't believe how everything had turned into peripheral devices exported from the word of Tron and made so much fun of it but here we are. With an RGB keyboard, and I LOVE IT. I played some Battlefield 4 and 5 last night and did so much better than I ever had before. The responsiveness of this thing is just aces. It takes some getting used to but is totally worth it. Also, it was on sale, so I basically HAD to get this. All the reviews said how great it was and that the only con was really the price. Well, that took care of THAT con! I'd always wanted an Alienware product since the line was introduced and now I have one. Yay!
