Customers are delighted by the impressive performance and graphics capabilities of the m18 R2 18" 165Hz Gaming Laptop, frequently praising its large screen size ideal for gaming and work. However, some users noted the laptop's considerable weight and relatively short battery life as drawbacks. The large screen, while appreciated by many, also necessitates a larger carrying case.

As usual, Alienware is well built, good performance, and stays cool. Unfortunately, its a bit overpriced compared to similar spec gaming laptops. The only reason I bought the larger size is because smaller Alienware laptops don't have number pad.

Beautiful laptop. Runs great. Screen has a line from top to bottom out of the box. Other than that linewill be returning this laptop for a new one. It runs way cooler than the 16 because of the size and the two extra vents out of the rear.
2nd strike for Alienware. I’ve always wanted an Alienware laptop as a child now I’m starting to wonder if I should jump ship. Their laptops are beautiful I’m trying to make this work out but… the m16 was a return for broken GPU thermal fan. The m18 is going to be a return as well. Will post an update review for the 3rd Alienware laptop in less than a month.

I was unable to get the laptop up and functional as the drivers were missing to operate it. The tech found that out while looking into the bios to find a majority of them were not in the system. He told me I could download them myself if I wanted to! I told him the for the price I paid for a new computer it should be operational even if it was an open box! I returned for a refund. Misleading info on description stating it had been checked and was certified! Bought an UNOPENED NEW from Dell, that is the picture on this review. It's a 5 star yes for the computer and 1 star for the purchase experience!!!!!

I waited for quite some time to acquire an Alienware laptop. I had heard so many good things about them. When I picked up the item and began unboxing it, I was genuinely impressed. It felt like such care was put into making the unboxing experience...special. Setting it up was easy, as I'm a tech-savvy gal. The trackpad is in an awkward position in relation to the keyboard. Using the F keys was a bit confusing and opposite compared to past laptops. There have been times when the screen doesn't go to the unlock screen so I can type in my pin. This is very annoying. Even though it is a beast for the current spec standards you may want to see in a gaming laptop, when I've done the most basic of processes or applications, it has sometimes seemed to struggle. Physically, it's not easy to transport because it's a heavy laptop (and battery), so I can't recommend this if you need or want to be more portable or on the go. Some of the ports on difficult to locate and access (most are on the left side or the back).
The sound is good. The video quality is good. The keyboard and keys feel cozy - and I do like having a numeric pad. When the battery is about to die, the power button flashes to remind me.
Is it worth the money I put down for it? I really can't say yes to that. I have felt a bit of buyer remorse more than a few times. (I did only buy this as my Acer Helios finally died - otherwise, I was happy enough.)
I did expect a bit more user-friendly features. Perhaps too much because of the hype. Will I buy Alienware ever again? I don't know.

It's a great computer. It is huge and heavy, so this is not a portable laptop at all. The customizability of the lights adds to the appeal in my optinion. I have noticed that because the graphics and processor are so advanced, some games wont launch (i.e. The Sims 3) without patches, so something to keep in mind. Per global reviews, the fans are indeed loud and push a lot of heat. If you get a cooling pad, that should ease the frequency of the internal fans as the pad fans tend to be quieter and are constant. The battery complaint is also true, it does drain fast, though I just keep it plugged in. Withiut taxing games or apps, the battery is fine. I would recommend it for a high performance laptop.

This thing is a tank! It's big and heavy, not something you really want to lug around travelling a lot, unless you want a powerhouse portable desktop of a laptop. I needed a laptop with a big screen for remote work and I wanted to able to game on it as well. This does it all! I was able to play COD while away on vacation and it was as good as my desktop gaming system. It does put out a bunch of heat when it gets cranking, be prepared for that.

So far so good. Great features and screen size for the sale price. Only thing to be aware of is the BIOS is set to Raid 0 for the empty ssd slot so if you just want to put in a ssd as a D drive without raid 0 you will need to change the BIOS first. And, the power button does blink in windows standby mode. But everything is fast, and screen is great with plenty of ports.

The machine is amazing; its features make it truly a beauty. It seems like a very good purchase, although I’ve only used it for a short time. Nevertheless, it’s a great product. However, what was disappointing was the service from Best Buy. I paid for an excellent condition, but the machine arrived with some scratches, which was unfair. I received a small refund, but it didn’t justify the condition. Still, it was the best I could get, considering I couldn’t visit the store or had time for exchanges. Even so, everything turned out fine. The laptop is very beautiful.

Now that the machine is up and running, I do love it. But...
1) I had to go through the set up several times because it locked up for failed forcing a hard reboot.
2) The machine is massively heavy if you have to carry the power cord with it, well, hit the gym.
3) Being an 18" monitor, the machine isn't just proportionally larger (like going from a 15" to 17" laptop). This machine is nearly square and doesn't fit into any bags I've found. Just a warning if you plan to use this as a portable device.
4) This device gets HOT! The body is structured to allow more airflow under and into the laptop to cool it, but it gets hot quickly and stays hot, even when sleeping. So far, it doesn't seem to impact performance or overheat causing the machine to shutdown as I've had with other laptops, but this isn't a machine you'll set on your lap to work while watching TV.
5) A PRO...it worked seamlessly with my Dell docking station so I'm able to use three monitors (two ViewSonic and the laptop) and I do appreciate that I see different wallpapers on each monitor.
All-in-all, I think I got the best laptop I could for the money. I've used Dell Precisions in the past and the latest models are bulky and didn't fit my preferences as past models. Switching to this device has had plenty of upside, but I've lost the portability I enjoy when I want to do other types of work in different spots around the house, or a coffeeshop, etc.

I’m a master’s student in engineering, and I got a laptop for both studying and gaming. But I’ve got a few complaints. First, opening and closing different mechanical software apps slows down the laptop. The Alienware control center often hangs, and the battery only lasts 2-3 hours. And it’s super heavy, which isn’t ideal for someone like me who’s not a pro gamer. So, I ended up getting a MacBook instead. Alienware is for serious gamers who don’t mind carrying their laptop around all the time and who use it on battery power. .

I unfortunately can't write a solid review of how this computer works and functions since i returned it the day after purchasing. I needed a new computer for work ASAP and was up in Saginaw MI so i jumped on this one since Alienware has always been a great computer build, and this was the only one with my desired specs in stock. I only returned it because of it's size. This thing is impressive to say the least! I just couldn't bring it in to meetings, i wouldn't hear the end of it. It's looks, lighting and feel are pretty dang nice and i wish i could have ran with it!
