Alienware, Good But Dell Needs To Up Their Game

I purchased this laptop for personal gaming as well as for school being that I am a full time IT student. I figured if I am going to get something I am going to get something I can game plus get through my homework. I love the laptop but I will say Dell has degraded the name of this company. I have had a few issues with my laptop, i.e. I got the blue screen of death four days after getting the laptop because the drivers were not updated for Windows 10 Home. You would think after paying almost $2,000.00 the company would have had everything upgraded from Windows 8.1 drivers. Plus, the laptop runs hot in which I can feel heat dispersing out of the keyboard. I am definitely going to have to buy a cooking device.
The other issue I have had is that there is no optical drive in this model. So, you have to purchase an external one. I did receive a free one from Best Buy because I was told there was one when I ordered it, which I appreciate but it's not the quality I would have perffered. Was thinking it was going to come with a bluray optical drive and was greatly disappointed when there was none. The weight of my he laptop is a bit reficulous as well.
Would have also been nice if this system would have come with 32gigs of gaming RAM verses 16 gigs. Plus, "looking at possibly getting another graphics card to hook up externally with a separate power supply to boost my gaming experience.
I honestly wanted a MSI laptop but Best Buy could not accommodate my wishes because they could not order the item due to out of stock issues. It was greatly upsetting because the MSI model would have been 100 times this laptop with better specs. I guess time will tell and I hope I did not put my faith in Dell again to only be disappointed in the future yet again.
Overall, I am happy, next time I hope that Best Buy can order what is listed on their site versuses a customer having to settle on an item over what they really wanted.

My Bad

My bad for buying DELL anything! Laptop does not even have an official branded DELL replacement battery and you will need one because the battery will not last 6 months before it starts to seriously degrade! DELL claims this is "normal" battery! Really? For $2K laptop? Buy yourself a MAC and if you need Windows just install it. MAC = 12 hour battery, hardware A+, support A++. DELL zero, zilch, nada!
No, I would not recommend this to a friend

gggg,
We appreciate your feedback and we're sorry that the battery life on your Alienware laptop is not what you had hoped for. We'd encourage you to reach out directly to our Alienware support team via Email - [email protected]. Please use your username from this review as the subject line for your Email.
If you'd like some tips on extending the life of your battery please consider the following:
Change the Power Plan:
1. On the notification area of the taskbar, right-click the Battery icon. 2. On the options list, click Power Options. 3. Select a power plan on the battery meter, such as Power Saver or Balanced. Windows 10 has a built in 'Battery Saver' mode that can be activated to extend your system's battery life. The Battery Saver mode will monitor and limit background activity and other features such as push notifications. You do have the option to enable or disable this mode within settings or within advanced Battery Saver settings, you can customize the mode to best suit your needs.
a) Click on the Action Center icon in the taskbar and select the tile for Battery Saver. b) If running Cortana then type Battery Saver into the search box and select from the results. Within the Battery Saver settings page, you will be able to turn on and off the feature and customize the feature to best meet your needs. c) Turn Battery Saver On or Off. d) Additional settings available via the Battery use and Battery saver settings links. e) Battery use shows further info on apps and their power usage. f) Battery Saver Settings screen allows you to customize further Battery Saver feature.
We hope these tips help your battery life last longer for you.
Best, Bryan 1-800-624-9896

I am highlighly disappointed with my purchase. I had to send this computer back to Dell a little over a month after I bought it because it would not turn on. I was told that the motherboard was replaced, but now it's doing the same thing again.
