Portable but Powerful, Excellent Build Quality

It’s a great laptop with performance and power that pairs well with the 1080p screen resolution. Do not purchase this laptop thinking you are going to push ultra graphics on HDMI 2.1 on a 4K TV (which I have seen some YouTube reviewers attempt- then raise their fist in the air at poor performance). This is a portable laptop meant for portable productivity and gaming. If you want a machine that balances small size and performance- this is it. The build and deign is flawless…although I disagree with Alienware’s 3080 only for RGB trackpad- but that shows how out of touch they truly are with their customer base or just a greedy laptop manufacturer- another story for another day. Assassins Creed Valhalla 60 FPS, Deathloop 60 FPS, Days Gone 60 FPS, Cold War multiplayer 90-120 FPS. CPU Temps are between 80-100, so it gets warm compared to the cooler running X17. Admire the quality and its purpose and you will enjoy; expect a powerhouse desktop replacement and you will be dissatisfied.

I really expected more from the Alienware brand but this laptop suffers from being severely underpowered. Quality is good and I was able to put in an additional NVMe drive but for an intel i7 it’s a little doggy. Save your money and go for the i9 or Ryzen9.

Love my new Alienware laptop! Not using it for gaming, but needed a laptop that could handle the full Adobe suite. This one rocks! Highly recommend.

Horrible battery life, barley functioning heavy hot piece of crap. Small screen and keyboard, probably the worst laptop Ive ever had in my life before the cpu gave out literally one month after warranty coverage. Hoping I can still get my money back unlike the hours of code I lost, which I had to do on windows bc it cant dual boot linux either. Whatever you do dont buy this thing.

I travel a lot for work and didn't like having to drag around my old consoles. Bought this laptop and it works like a charm! The graphics are 10/10 and makes gaming super clean. The battery life is decent, stays charged upwards to an hour, could definitely improve but nothing sitting near an outlet can't fix.

Awesome laptop, but I am on my third one. The first had a problem with speakers not working, second one was fine for a week but then could not wake up from sleep. Would turn on for 3 seconds and then go back to sleep. voodoo? Best Buy will only give one replacement per order, so I had to return my original and replacement and order a new one. If this one is defective I think I'll give up. I went through 4 Asus G15s, all defective popping speakers with one having dark screen. Giving 4 stars since if I get a good one it's a 5 star laptop.

    New Gaming PC

This laptop was easy to use right out of the box. This is the first PC I've bought in several years and my first gaming one. I bought it to play COD Warzone with and it does that just fine. Display was easy to set up, and haven't had any issues with it so far. The only drawback was the lack of ports to plug into but by purchasing a USB C hub that was solved easily.

I only had this laptops for a short time had to return due to unforseen financial circumstances. But for the time I had it was very impressive its fast, games are very smooth and the look and feel of this laptop is premium the only thing I would improve is the screen QHD would be better for streaming. If your mainly just gaming this is a good choice .

The second you pull this out of the box, you will notice just how premium it is. A big step above all the other Alienware laptops before it. I got the open-box one and it had a few issues. First, the touchpad would only register one finger--meaning no scrolling or pinch and zoom. This was unacceptable. Also, the ethernet adapter was not in the box. I'm sure Dell support would have taken care of the touchpad issue, but I didn't want to deal with it so I returned it. Despite the negatives, I would probably get another one (not open-box) in the future because of how premium it is and I like Alienware in general.

The Potential for Greatness met with Sadness

I purchased this laptop back in May. I won't focus on a glowing review about its performance, build, temps, ect. as many others have already done. Read those reviews if you're wondering about the laptop. I'm in agreement it has awesome build quality, fantastic keyboard and typing experience, RGB is on point, the specs are amazing, and very portable. The purpose of this review is how I got a great potential product and the stress it gave as it gave out on me. I've bought and gamed and done school and work related things on previous Alienware laptops in the past. Some of my best experiences. I've been with AW since the release of the m11x gaming laptop. I've owned the AW 17 R3 for the last 6 years and wanted to downgrade to a 15 inch for more portability and less weight carrying around while still getting a top tier gaming experience AW delivers, haha. When I saw the x15 R1, I was excited, but had reservations as I was browsing around and reading up and watching reviews on it and other laptops within the same field. After months of thinking, I decided to buy the x15 R1. I got the standard build BestBuy had to offer: 11th Gen i7 Intel cpu, NVIDIA GTX 3070 (max Q performance in reality, closer to a 2080 Super), 16GB RAM, 512 GB SSD, 1080p 360hz display w/ NVIDIA G-SYNC capability. It ran fine for the first 3 weeks. I knew it ran hot, as AW is notorious for having hot pockets for products. In my experience, I been okay with that, because my previous AW devices held their own. This one, however, didn't. I believe the heating fried the cpu or gpu at some point, because I noticed freezing and stuttering after the first 3 weeks. It happened first in games. It was subtle, then got more noticeable. Then, just watching videos on social media or YT, same thing. But considerably and noticeably worse over time. Videos would freeze for a second to several seconds. The audio would cut in and out, stutter, ect. There were times my computer froze (could move the cursor around, but nothing else responded), I'd force shut it down, and reboot. There was one time the computer just shut it self off due to overheating. At first, I thought it might have been because I upgraded to Windows 11. I kept W10 on the device initially, but decided to upgrade to W11. Interestingly enough, it could have been due to that, or, in-part due to that. The stutters and freezes started shortly after upgrading to W11. I ran diagnostics: hardware diagnostics, checking if drivers were up to date, uninstalling and reinstalling drivers, reinstalling Windows 10 2 or 3 times, running synthetic tests, in game benchmark tests, and searching up online for anything other possible solutions. Nothing was working. By this point, the exchange and return window had closed. So, I couldn't return for a refund. So, with the Total Tech support and protection plan, I decided to take it in to get it checked out. First time, they did the standard hardware diagnostics and wiping the computer clean. Ran perfectly fine the first 12 hours of having it back. Second time and 3rd time, sent to the BB Service Center where they replaced the motherboard each time. I got it back after the second time, and same thing. Loaded up Genshin Impact, and it was 1-2 fps (my internet was perfectly fine too. All my other fevices weren't experiencing internet lag). I picked it up to receive the device after the 3rd time, and it just wouldn't work. According to the Geek Squad staff, they tried to boot it up, ran fine for a few minutes, and then stopped working. Fourth time, they couldn't get the parts and scrapped it I guess. BB gave me instore credit for the worth of the laptop purchase. This was over the course of the next 2ish months. During this time I just used my good ol' trusty reliable AW 17 R3 whenever I was out and about. During this process, the Geek Squad team that helped me in store walked me through the process, were 100% transparent with me, patient, compassionate, and understanding. They helped me out so much (shoutout to the Manager, Assistant Managers, Sean, Christian, Brenden, and Ali at the Torrance branch!). The Alienware x15 R1 is a fantastic concept and had the potential to be a great longterm device for me. I probably just got a bad unit. It wasn't the motherboard replacements or software issues. It must have been the heat sync or some other component that messed with it. And I know they didn't replacement the heat sync, because when I put in my 2nd SSD after the first mobo replacement, I noticed it was the exact same hardware components. In the end, I don't know what caused the device to stop working and gave itself so many issues, but I can tell you I won't be buying another 15 inch Alienware device ever again. Or, at least until Alienware/Dell comes figures this out. It doesn't matter if the x15 has the x17's cooling system and build quality, I believe the thinness compromises the R1's full potential--a lot of sacrifices had to be made to cram top tier specs into a 15 inch chassis that is the R1. I heard the R2 fixed some of these issues, but I remain wary. I'm just going to use my instore credit to purchase a 17 inch gaming laptop. Have my sights on the Alienware x17 (which I should have just gotten in the first place! Lol!) As Dave2D put it in his review on the Alienware x15 R1, "It's too" darn "thin!"

It's a great laptop, with one flaw! A gaming laptop with soldered RAM! That's the only thing made me return it. I just couldn't deal with it not being upgradable. Powerful machine otherwise. The RAM soldered is a minor thing to some, but to me I just couldn't look past it. Loved the keyboard. Per key RGB is very nice!
