Customers appreciate the x15 R2's performance, comfortable keyboard, and robust build quality. Many also praise its fast SSD, high refresh rate display, and relatively light weight for a gaming laptop. However, some users point to the shorter battery life and tendency for the device to become warm during extended use as significant drawbacks. The display quality also receives positive feedback.

This is the most powerful laptop that has a dedicated graphic card that I have ever used. I also have a workstation laptop by Dell (Alienware as you know, is a subsidiary) with a Quadro card and it manages to play games decently. Another desktop with GTX 1080 and another workstation with dual Xeon chip/128 GB RAM and a powerful Quadro and this laptops is more suitable for games and seems to run faster than all computers I mentioned above.
Unpacking and setting up – I'm afraid you have to know a little bit about computer. This is not the fault of Alienware/Dell-and it applies to any computers running Windows operating system so I will not dwell on it. You won't be able to use it right away – it took me almost an entire day with a very fast Internet to download patches to update the operating system (Windows 11) so it is up to date. If you expect to play a game within the short moment you unpack it, you can forget that. So just like any new computer, plan to spend a bit of time before you get to use it.
One thing you will note that it is beautifully made. It feels sturdy enough and it has very bright LCD in the back – making it look like the back of the car. However the novelty wore off for me because I could not locate the USB connectors to plug them in without a flash light. There is the program (under alienwear folder) called Alienware Lighting Technology that you could use to turn it off, and you can also use their other programs to change the setting of the graphic card – overclocking the graphic card, etc. (See why you should spend some time setting it up?) Lastly, there is a tiny microSD slot that was not easy to locate on the back.
Manual? It's a piece of folded paper. Long gone when a computer or a program comes with a printed book.
By the way, I also thought that light was attracting a bit too much attention for myself when I took it to a coffee shop.
With the computer fully charged, Windows report five hours of battery time. That was the computer just sitting there not being used. So that time will be shorter if you were to use it for games which may push your hardware to the limits.
I downloaded a few games from Steams. Some are old, and some are current. They all ran beautifully – no stuttering – no screen tearing at all, and at the higher and highest settings, too. No jumping around. Smooth as silk.
If you want to go beyond HD resolution, this computer can "only" do 1920x1080 (not 2560x1440) but the refreshing rate is amazing 360 Hz. The screen is beautiful. I thought it was OLED (and it isn't). Watching an episode of Netflix show was a joy. It looks good and it sounds good, too. This thing has Dolby Vision and Dolby Atmos (hence HDR video and surround sound).
The hard drive is the M.to format – and is extremely fast. Booting up – ready to go – for me was less than 10 seconds.
There is a USB 3.2 generation 1 port, a 3.2 generation 2 (type C) and a thunderbolt 4 port in the back. (I wish it had two USB 3 full size outputs). A HDMI 2.1 port and an audio jack, too. There is Bluetooth 5.2 so you can use your Bluetooth hardware.
Does it run hot? It runs warm. You'd expect it to do that. Just don't rest it on your bed (so the air flows are blocked) nor sit it on your lap so you won't be toasted.
The CPU is i7 with 14 cores / 20 threads with plenty of speed up to 4.7 GHz with 16 GB of RAM. More than enough to do just anything with this beast. Laptops nowadays don't come with the optical drive so don't expect to play a DVD, let alone a Blu-ray disc with this.
The keyboard has programmable backlight – but this is not something you would buy to type a 10 page report (although I use a third party voice dictation program and the computer is beyond fast enough to work very well with it).
The computer weighs about 5 1/2 pounds is surprsingly thin. The weight does not includ the power supply. So it's light enough to be carried around and is powerful enough for any gamers.
It would be a wonderful computer for any gamers. Obviously you'd get more for the same amount of money if this were a desktop, but some people must have a laptop. For what it is, it is a powerful computer to do anything if they can afford one.

Fantastic notebook, powerful sleek and beautiful. I don't think most people are getting the X series from Alienware because its going to provide the best of the best performance, but it offers 95-98% of top tier performance with 10/10 aesthetics. Its just a simply stunning notebook and feels amazing in the hand. The magnesium case allows its to be light but also feel like a tank. Amazing notebook great deal when on sale or especially when Open Box.

An Astounding Alien Abduction of Gaming

The Alienware x15 r2 15.6” is perfect for the couch gamer. Over the years my gaming evolution has occurred. Used to be a solely console person, then was exposed to PC gaming; which even though the console gamer wants to deny it, we all know is superior. Well, a few years ago, I found my perfect match - laptop gaming. This allows myself to stay on the couch or in bed, getting the relaxation factor one can not obtain at a computer chair. The Alienware x15 r2 packs a punch, enabling quite impressive game options and graphics from one’s lap.
To start, the overall weight of the laptop is ideal for prolonged gaming at approximately 5lbs. I have been able to have prolonged gaming sessions without lap discomfort. I do use a cooling lap pad for added comfort. This laptop will easily fit on a desk or table also, not being too large in size. There is a sleek design profile, being less than 2cm in height. With the sleek design, comes fabulous lighting. The back-side fan has a beautiful blue light that provides an aesthetic huge. My wife commented on the design right off the back, which is quite a compliment from her. The keyboard has RGB backlighting, which for a gaming laptop is a must in my book. The settings may be edited within the Alienware Command Center. The laptop has limited, but useful ports. 1 USB 3.2 Gen 1 port and 1 USB 3.2 Gen 2 Type-C port, along with a Thunderbolt 4 port. This provides variability in available ports, but is limited. I use a mouse with the laptop, to enable more precise movement during gaming than with the mousepad, but keep in mind if not bluetooth connected it will take up one of only a couple available ports. There is also an HDMI port, allowing for quick device display. I appreciate that with the few options there is still a microSD-card slot. Having the easily available microSD slot is always fabulous for camera use. This laptop can easily run and maintain photo/video editing.
The meat of this laptop is within the hardware. With the 12th Gen Intel Core i7-12700H paired with the NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3070Ti one has impressive power within a small package. Obviously there are a multitude of hardware combinations out there, but I personally enjoy Intel and NVIDIA together. Driver updates are simple to install, and prompted when necessary. Together, with the 16GB DDR5 memory, most computer games are available for smooth and beautiful playtime on the 15.6” display. For years now one of my best tests has been GTA5 which plays without a hitch. I have been able to have graphics turned to my preferred style and have not had any crash or errors. I have been able to play every game within my Steam library I have tried without issue. One of my biggest excitements is I believe this laptop is equipped with hardware that will allow the next years upcoming games to be played, which in my previous experience can be a bit hairy if not top of the line options are chosen. FFXIV plays without a hitch, which is my MMORPG go to and top playtime spent by more than 1000 hours and with seamless play I could not be happier. It is difficult to convey effective hardware within text, but my largest summary is, I have been able to play every game I have attempted thus far with happiness. My only proposed change would have been 32GB memory instead of 16GB. I believe 1TB hard drive is enough space for myself, as if I had more space I would just keep games on the device that no longer need to be downloaded!
The Alienware Command Center software allows for overclocking, RGB lighting adjustments, and game management with specific settings. I am a fan of Dell’s Alienware Command Center, compared to similar brand programs I have tried. It is a simple, but efficient tool. Settings may be easily adjusted, and overclocking edits. My only complaint is it having to occasionally update upon start but it is a quick process when this occurs.
All in all, the Alienware x15 r2 lives up to the Alienware name. I would employ one to evaluate their target budget for a gaming laptop and choose appropriately. There are a few options for processors and graphics card in this line and if one’s budget falls toward this device, I would support the purchase. This sounds petty, but my biggest dislike of the laptop is that the power cord is shorter than I would have preferred. I did not measure it out; however, it is limited in length and could be confining in some situations. Otherwise, a solid addition to the Alienware line.

I bought this labtop open box it was shelf display. It has amazing design and aesthetics screams quality. Unfortunately I did a return because the labtop due to battery being completely done and the thermals being all over the place and crashing on me. Maybe with a brand new one I wouldn’t suffer these issues

High Quality Gaming Laptop

High quality gaming laptop. Great for multi-tasking while running multiple apps. Great for gaming running top settings. I don't notice any kind of flutter at while using multiple apps and while gaming. I was i able to run games at top settings without any latency. I also tried streaming my Xbox game using remote play and xcloud without any problems. The 1 tb ssd loads games quickly. Though this laptop says full HD it can be misleading. The highest resolution for this laptop is 1080P and not 4K as some consumers might expect full HD to meaning resolution all the way up to 4K but like I said the highest is 1080P at 60htz. Though that doesn't mean the games don't look great at that resolution I was kind of disappointed that with a 3070ti gpu the laptop would have 4K resolution. Overall, this is still a high quality gaming laptop with easy portability for traveling abroad. I most definitely recommend this to any consumer that is looking at upgrading or even just getting started in pc gaming.

I bought this laptop for my husband! At first, I bought the open box since it was 10% cheaper than the original price. Then it crashed while using it. So I took it back and bought a brand new one. The 2nd one froze this time! So I had to exchange the one with the new one! If this one doesn’t work, I won’t buy Alienware ever again!!

A sliming laptop experience

The alienware x15 laptop is in my opinion the best looking windows gaming laptop to come out in recent years. The white slick design on the front makes it look more sophisticated and not like a gaming laptop at all. And the slim design tears away from the idea that all gaming laptops are "clunky". When i got this laptop i put it through a stress test to see what it could handle. For the CPU clock i did a "balanced" and "max" test. The balanced test wielded a conclusion of 3.0-3.7 GHz while the max wielded a result of 3.6-3.7 GHz maxed. While i was playing various games i also tested the temp to see how the fans worked and how hot it got. balanced it was 100c/73c and at maxed it got 100c/70c. As i suspected even though the laptop is equipped with a quad fan system the laptop got hot enough to burn my leg. So my recommendation to combat this is to get a fan system while you play or to leave your laptop in a place where it can "breathe" while you play games. moving on.. the quality of this laptop overall blew me away with the membrane keyboard and the RGB lighting system. Graphics wise everything looks amazing and all my games run smoothly. I played various games to test the durability and I never faced a problem other than i had to figure out why some games would play but others wouldn't. that was just a settings problem though. all and all I recommend this laptop to anyone who wants something sleek and beautiful

the good:
- gaming specs - Seriously impressive specs, and tuned well by Alienware to perform at their max. Current (12th) gen CPU, Nvidia 3070Ti, M.2 SSD and 16GB DDR5 memory - all of these are maybe one level down from top of the line, but still *very* capable, providing a fast and smooth experience whether using the included 1080P display or powering an external monitor. In my testing, this laptop beat all others I've tested via Geekbench so far (including an Apple M1 MBP by quite a large margin). In fact, it beat all of the other desktops I've tested as well, with the exception of my close-to-top-of-the-line custom i9 gaming rig. Very impressive!
- physical design - Alienware has come quite a long way in their physical design, perhaps because of competitors which have become slimmer and lighter. This latest design direction is significantly better in my opinion, keeping the "alien" futuristic aesthetic but in a much thinner form factor.
- keyboard - The keyboard feels nice with good travel and backlight, while not being overly "gamer" RGB. It feels maybe more like "classy" gamer than flashy lights gamer. It depends of course on which you prefer, but this feels geared toward a potentially more subtle crowd.
- display - Outstanding display - big, clear, bright and super fast (360Hz refresh rate), along with the GPU that can take advantage of it. If I had my choice I might have preferred QHD instead of FHD, but for gaming this looks and performs top tier.
- fans - Very quiet under normal operation, lesser so under heavy load (but still not as loud as some jet engine fans I've heard - I'm looking at you Intel i9 Macbook Pro...). Good thermals thanks to the quad cooling design.
the bad:
- speakers - The speakers sound just "ok" for laptop speakers. neither horrible nor would you want to use them if you had almost literally *any* other option.
- ports - The port selection is again just "ok" here. One USB-A, one USB-C, and one thunderbolt. The full size HDMI 2.1 is nice, but you'll more than likely need either a dock or some adapters/hubs. Probably a bit nit-picky, but still something to consider.
misc:
- battery - It's a gaming laptop, and using so much power with the CPU/GPU during heavy loads is never going to allow a current technology battery to have more than a few hours capacity. The best option for these machines is to keep them plugged in if you're gaming for more than a short session.
overall:
- Overall this is a fantastic gaming laptop, light, sturdy, attractive design with some serious internal processing power. The small faults are not enough to detract from it's overall quality in my opinion. 5 stars.

This review pertains to the Alienware X15 R2 Gaming laptop. Quick Specs: 15.6" 1920 X 1080 FHD display, with 360 Hz refresh rate. 12th generation Intel i7-12700H, 12 core processor at 2.3 GHz up to 4.8 GHz. 16GB DDR4 RAM. NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3070Ti graphics card with 8 GB GDDR6 graphics memory. 1TB SSD storage, running Windows 11 64 bit OS.
Ports on the rear of the unit: One USB 3.2 PowerShare (USB-A), One USB-C Thunderbolt 4, a micro SD slot, One USB-C 3.2 Gen 2 port and an HDMI port.
Side Ports: At the rear of the Left side is the AC power port and at the rear of the Right side is the 3.5 mm Audio/Headphone port.
Outstanding performance is crammed into a solid, well designed package that stands out from the other laptops with its Lunar Light case top. My unit came with color changing keyboard and case lighting active as well as the "Power On when Lid Opens" feature that is extremely annoying. Luckily this can be disabled in BIOS. Giving up the 10-Key pad centralizes the keyboard and refines the look of the unit when open. Having most of the inputs on the rear of the unit cleans up the look as well.
Performance is fantastic as is expected for a high priced computer, no issues playing graphic intensive games, or running CAD software. Heat is also kept to a minimum, only the right rear corner of the keyboard gets noticably hot with use.
After two weeks playing with this laptop, I have found nothing to complain about. A winner from Alienware.

This is the best Alienware laptop I have ever witnessed! Alienware has been notoriously been know to be overpriced for the value you get but this changes the mold! I believe this beater other 3070 ti laptops on the market because of the aesthetic, feel and surprisingly portability!
