After having two Alpine Type R 12" subs for years I finally bit the bullet and decided that I was good on the low notes but I was tired of having my speakers break up with vocals at high volume. I figured if i was going to do it then I was going to do it right and get new speakers and a 4 channel amp. I'm an installer for Best Buy and unfortunatly we don't carry anything above a type s in the stores in my area and definitly not the PDX series amplifiers. But I got a chance to listen to another installers vehicle with Alpine Type R 6x9's all the way around and off an Alpine amp and I just loved the way it sounded. After doing some research I decided on the PDX-4. I wouldn't have minded getting the F6 but it was out of my price range at the time. Anyways, I replaced the front door speakers with some Type R 6.5" coaxial speakers and installed the F4 and WOW what a difference. 100w RMS to each speaker is a world of difference than running off the 22w rms that my Kenwood Head unit delivered. I can turn my head unit up all the way and the music is crystal clear through out the entire range.
Now, there are only 2 reasons I didn't give this Amp 5 stars.
#1 I wish the amp had more tunability on it. I'm sure when they designed this they figured the people who would be installing these would benefit more from an external equilizer but it still would have been nice to have the option of say a parametric eq or even a bass boost option.
#2. I still haven't figured out what was causing the issue (still need to contact Alpine) But I installed this amp this past winter and I noticed several times a week that when I would remote start my car in the mornings to warm it up, when I would get into my car my subs would be playing but not my door or rear deck speakers. When I would fold down my back seat where the amp is mounted the light on the front of the amp would be red meaning it was in protection mode. The manual states that one issue could be over current. Don't know how that could be an issue since if the amp ever drew too much current that what it was designed for the fuse would have blown. To fix it all i would have to do was turn the radio off and then back on and the amp would spring to life. Both amps are running of the same power wire via a distribution block running 4 AWG wire, grounded in the same location and connected to the same remote turn on wire.
Other than those two minor issues I absolutly love this amp. I'm planning on getting a PDX-M12 soon so I can get rid of my big ugly MTX amp and have matching amps. Especially since they are about the sexiest amps I've seen yet.

I consulted with Audio Installer Mike Pieceynski Best Buy store 1451 for my 2016 Nissan crew 4door. I knew I wanted to use the Alpine PDX 400w amp instead of replacing my factory head and a compact sub under the seat. He suggested the JBL BassPro 8” sub and JBL 6x9 3 ways in the front door panels and JBL 6.5 2 ways in the rear. I wanted clarity, every acoustical detail, like a live stage. He set the door speakers to mid and high only and w/ bass phased out of them. I listen to music using high end Sennheiser headphones and the reproduction of this setup in my truck is amazing (proper acoustic staging in an auto is impossible) but this sounds pretty awesome. It sounds like the bass is coming from the speakers but its coming from the rear sub. It’s not booming bass. Its accurate studio recorded bass. Vocals are clear and in front, guitars soar. Keyboards and percussion are separated. Not all albums are produced the same, some good and some muddy, but this delivers clean live studio sound across almost all genres (I listen to a lot of West Coast Reggae, Rock, etc and equalizer set to Dance). The Alpine amp delivers clean powerful sound!!!

You get what you paid for. Very happy. It fits in the "trunk" of my Jeep wrangler without taking up much space.

This amp is a piece of art. Easy to install. Easy to mount. Doesn't have to be tuned. I am extremely satisfied.
