Bought it for the recording aspect.no problem as of now. Tried a thumb drive first then switched to a external hard drive which works better. Always came up about 12 minutes short on a one hour program with the thumb drive. Works good with my antenna. Just have to be patient while using the remote sometimes it doesn’t respond as fast as it should.maybe I’m doing something that is causing that

Nice screen for OTA channels. My only complaint is it doesn’t label the show with the title, only the file name. Otherwise, it works great.
Mine had a broken remote. Customer care at the manufacture level is amazing. They sent a new remote right away with no issues.

My Thoughts on Aluratek Digital Video Recorder

Purched this converter box to record shows on ABC because my cable company no longer carries ABC. So far it does what I bought it for. Directions that came with it are not the greatest to understand but you can go on Utube and find video's that answers alot of questions. The remote could larger but over all it does work well once you understand how to program the shows you want to record.

Does the job for recording OTA TV. Especially for the price (frequently on sale). Good tuner. The remote is a bit small and with more limited range than another similar brand, but you adjust to it.

Picture quality is good. Flash drive a problem.

I cut cable TV and wanted something with better quality than a VCR to record video, I first used a flash drive. At first the picture quality was great but then the picture jumped and 10 to 15 seconds of program was lost, This happened about every 5 minutes. I then tried a portable hard drive and the problem disappeared. Picture quality with the hard drive is equal to that of cable TV.
The only other problem is the remote. You must pay attention the legend at the bottom of each screen to determine which keys to use.
I did buy another unit so I could record 2 shows at the sane time

I originally bought this to use strictly as a converter but it works pretty well as a Video recorder. It has limitations like cannot play and record at the same time like a DVR and the remote must be aimed directly at the box.

I’m using this primarily to record local tv programs. I have DirectTV but there are local channels I like that DirectTV doesn’t have. I have the Aluratek coax input connected to a external antenna and the coax output going to a HDTV. There’s also a HDMI output that can be used as well. It picks up all the local channels with no problem and has a program guide that shows what’s on and allows you to select what you want to record. The program guide only shows about a day in advance but you can set weekly programming or manually set any date and time. Only downside is you can not record multiple programs at the same time. You can record several programs as long as the times don’t overlap. It’s perfect for recoding programs while your away and the price is great. A external hard drive or flash drive is required for recording.

Not an over the air DVR. Cannot watch begining of recorded program while it is recording. Not sure if it allows signal to go through coaxial output while recording because TV and device are connected to separate antennas. NTFS formating required for flash or thumb drive. During playback the audio goes out of sync when fasting forwarding thru commercials, but if recording stopped and resumed it goes back into sync.

This box works great to capture several channels with the TV antenna. The only problem I have is that the buttons on the remote are hard to push.

I like the digital convertor box by Aluratek better than others I have bought it's easy to set up and use right away. The one thing I would do is make the screw in for the coaxial cables be a little stronger.

Overall works good, but has a few glitches. Once in a while it will completely stop responding to the remote control for about one minute and then suddenly resets itself by rebooting. It also has trouble working with some brands of flash drives to make a recording, like the ones from Kingston. But other brands work fine. Hopefully the next generation will be better.

Freezes up frequently. Has to reboot itself at least twice a week. Hard to enter programs to record. Must leave TV on to record. Instructions for watching while recording are not available. But still a good product.

I am really surprised how well this works. Picture quality is excellent as well as the recording. I use a flash drive. Since you can only record what your watching I split the antenna using a splitter. I connected one coax to the dvr and used a HDMI cable to connect to tv. I connected the other coax to the tv. I can watch what I want while recording on the dvr. Setting up future recordings works great. I just leave the dvr on.

Great little DVR. Had reservations about purchasing it but since my Panasonic DVD DVR quit I had to try it. It works off your TV antenna so you don't have to worry about any other fees. Like most products the instructions are lacking. I went online and read the questions an found out how to record one channel and watch another. It's worth every penny especially since I can use a usb- equivalent to 6 DVD's an less space.

I really bought the Aluratek Digital Converter Box for its Personal Video Recorder (PVR) feature.
In general this box gets the job done quite well, but needs a bit of polishing in its electronics design, because it is not intuitive to use, not to logic in the functions of the remote control vs the general standards, and the instructions manual does not help much in many aspects. On top of that, the company does not reply to questions sent via email.

Works as advertised. The unit makes it easy to find channels. It reminds me of the old cable box from years past, but handles the task well.
