I purchased this kindle for my 4 year old great grandson. He loves it. Has downloaded games and cartoons. Nathan says the battery doesn't die so soon

So this tablet has 16 GBs but is expandable to 128GBs! You can use this Android device with PCs and Mac and is not bound to ONLY Amazon stores. You can get books from pretty much ANYWHERE which that spec alone puts the Kindle Fire *HIGH* on the hill above its peers. Sure others look sleeker but none of them can work like an external hard drive like this can. You even get extra FREE storage bu activating Amazons Cloud service thus expanding the "memory" even more! You can "virtually" pull from your online libraries, email yourself content, trade out content etc. like a thumb drive or an iPod. These specs alone paired with its price point put this device at my top choice. It may not look sleek like an iPad, but then that thing cannot get nearly as much eReading content either due to horrible DRM! (For those who don't know what that stands for: Digital rights management (DRM) schemes are various access control technologies that are used to restrict usage of proprietary hardware and copyrighted works. )Tablets are going the way of the DoDo, so snatch one of these up and max out it memory with an Micro SSD. Its cheap enough to replace, there are accessories for it everywhere, it's small enough to be toted anywhere, you have the freedom to chose downloadable content unlike the Nook, iPad, or other devices, it's lightweight, has a low profile, great screen, it's very easy to use & sync! For a mid-range tablet with the most features and unrestricted DRM access, this is a great choice for many people. Personally I recommend a program like Calibre to use in conjunction with the Kindle Fire to find books, magazines, newspapers, comics, etc. (Paid store options *AND* free) that can do many unique arrangements for your eReader tablet. I highly recommend this combo!

Originally I owned a Fire HD 7" from the previous generation. It was on the slow side and wasn't what I expected it. I upgraded to the 2015 Fire HD 8" and it blows away the previous generation. It has a larger display, faster response time, newer operating system, dual speakers, and also has an expandable microSD storage slot. I also noticed that it's much thinner and easier to hold than the previous generation. Compared to other tablets on the market, this one is a great value for the lower price tag.

It's not an iPad, it's not a Galaxy Tablet. It's an affordable tablet by Amazon that performs better than expected for a $169.00 price point. I happened to see this in Best Buy on the date it was released, I had seen advertisements for it on Amazon, and had every intention of researching it further once released. Well, I saw it, I held it, I tried it, I bought it. I'm totally satisfied with this purchase. I did add a 64Gb memory card to it and any apps I download go on there to keep the system memory freed up for necessities. And the Pros: Affordable Functional Ergonomic Responsive Amazon Underground (FREE apps) Battery Life is longer than expected Screen Resolution 1280 x 800 very crisp and bright, no dead pixels Stereo sound. The lower models only have one speaker, this has 2 and sounds good for the size of it. Cons: Generic tablet cases wouldn't work because the straps hit the power / volume buttons BUY the genuine Amazon case it's worth it. Some other reviews complain of lock-ups and laggy response, I have not had that problem at all.

The new kindle is great. If you want 16gb it now comes in an 8" tablet so that is a bonus. The menu and home screens have been updated and are easy to use. It looks great, it is much lighter and slimmer than previous editions. I highly recommend kindle it is my favorite tablet!

This is the first tablet in our home so I don't have much to compare too. The screen resolution is very good. It is just a little slow to respond when tapped, wait a few seconds before assuming that it isn't responding. It is fairly easy to use. This was a gift for my wife who is not very tech savvy but she has caught on fairly quick to most of it. It is an Amazon product so there are several ties to Amazon that you can not get rid of. The Photo App is "cloud drive" so without using the cloud you can't do much with it. There are many Photo Apps out there and I will get another one but you can't delete the Apps that came installed from Amazon so that memory can not be repurposed so adding Apps will use more of the memory. You can add a micro SD card and store photos, music, etc. on it to make better use of the onboard memory.

I bought this for downloading and watching movies for frequent flying. It works great with a great picture and sound (using wireless Beats Studio over ear). It occasionally gets slowed up when downloading several movies or shows at a time, but usually catches up. Sometimes needs a shutdown and restart but infrequent and tolerable at this price. I added a microSD card for lots more storage a feature much more expensive iPads can't do. Amazon unlimited for games is great for the kids.

Has nice features. Sometimes the processor is a little slow. I enjoy reading books on it more than I thought I would. Very lightweight. A good tablet for the price.

This is my 4th Kindle and I still have my first one. This one has way more storage and is bigger. The HD resolution is very good also. The sound is of good quality too.

I needed to replace my old Fire, this one is lightweight, has all that I need, camera, easy to use

I bought this for my mother who is 84 & had been using a old Kindle for years. I did worry that the newer technology might be overwhelming but to my pleasant surprise it is very user friendly. She loves the back light & the graphics are vision great! The sound is really good for as small as the speakers are. Screen size as well as over all size are perfect for carry along in a purse.

I enjoy the size and weight of this new Kindle. It is my 3rd one. Easy to use.

I got this kindle for my mother because her old one was moving a little slow. She loves the new screen size and camera. Amazon is making it more and more easy to work the kindle and I love that!

DON'T TRUST the blue shirts, one give us an 8g and tried to tell us it was a 16g. I could go on about how bad he was even though I showed him the box and it said 8g. The Fire HD 8 16 g is a wonderful tool, I find myself using it for books, music ,online orders,and movies, games, and I have just started.

Ideal gift for retired parents. They travel and this is perfect for their hotel or condo to access Internet, play games, and read books. Good size screen for all purposes, easy to store/pack/carry. Exactly what they need and much more cost-effective than purchasing a lap top. They love it!

It is easy to use and has great color on the screen. It holds it charge very well. All of my books and items from my Kindle Fire HD reader were there so I didn't have to transfer anything - it was already done. There are back and front cameras; easy to take pictures. Great buy.

I had the original version stolen this year and sorely missed it. I had the opportunity to buy another tablet of my choice. I chose to again purchase the Kindle. This bigger screen and easy to use layout works so well. I love my Kindle and will purchase again.

When purchasing t his item, I debated between the Fire 8 and the Apple Mini. Upon learning that while I used my tablet for PInterest and to watch Hulu, I still used it for reading, the great people at Best Buy recommended I stick with the Kindle family as it has a faster processor in the reader than a mere Kindle app would. They were right. This has twice as many gigi-bights as previous Kindles and a faster processor. I can still easily navigate and highlight books while playing games, pinning on my boards, and watching videos.

We bought two of these, one as a gift for our granddaughter and one for ourselves. It is a great size tablet and works well with our home wi-fi. I also like the ability to add additional memory at an inexpensive cost.

I got this just to be able to get Amazon books, movies and music. I am not having to put extra games on this tablet and it frees up a lot of space. For the price it does everything an iPad does. With more memory.
