Your better off buying a full blown Kindle Fire HD

I recently bought the Amazon - Fire Kids Edition - 7 Tablet - 8GB - Blue/Black and after allowing my daughter to use it for a few weeks have come to the realization that any kid over the age of 3 would prefer a full blown Kindle Fire HD. The preloaded software although a bonus was not enough to keep her interests and the limitations of a pre-configured kids version of the Kindle make it difficult for a parent to set it up so the child can access internet pages or YouTube unless you set each video up which is too much work. I would have much rather purchased the new full blown larger screened Kindle Fire HD tablet which allows for a full blown web browser in kindle free time kids mode. Also the screen seemed much smaller once I got it home and in her hands and the choice of only blue protective casing at the store I went to (probably because of stock) once to appealing to a little girl. All and all my advice to parents is spend the money... you get what you paid for.

I bought two of these tablets , 1 for each of my grandsons ages 7 and 4. They live them and I see them being used for years to come. They came in very handy on a rainy day in Florida with nothing much to do!!!

Bought this for my 8 year old son a couple of months ago and he could not be happier with it. Well...actually, he would be happier with it if we didn't use the built in parental controls! Very nice and easy controls to limit his game time and content. We are very satisfied with this device so far. Four thumbs up (me and my husband)

Spec-wise, not the fastest tablet or the best resolution display, but you can't find anything better for the price. Seems to do well with pretty much any game/app my kid uses. And the grippy rubber bumper case is a nice touch to provide ample protection and is easy to hold. Wifi seems to work as well as any other of my other devices - no dropouts and good range. Even though it can only access the Amazon store, you can still sideload apps if there is some app you can't find in Amazon and you know what you're doing. I'm not a huge fan of the skinned Android interface, but I absolutely LOVE the highly detailed parental controls. You can specify start and end times, total allowed usage in minutes, require a certain amount of educational apps to be used per day, control app access, control access to the camera, etc. The tablet doesn't have a whole lot of storage space so do yourself a favor and get an SD card; at least 16GB, more if you want to store videos or music. You can set many apps to be stored on the SD card to help free up some precious onboard storage. The one thing I would have liked to see improved is the charging port, especially since this is designed for kids. From experience, regular micro USB ports can't take a lot of abuse before they get stretched/worn and you are forced to hold it a certain way to charge. I would have liked to see something beefier like a micro USB3 connector.

After intense product research and reading through countless reviews, I decided to purchase this tablet (with pink case) for my 3 year old. I chose Best Buy because they offer coverage for damages (2 yr worry-free guarantee), anti-virus protection (Kaspersky), 1 year of Amazon FreeTime Unlimited AND free shipping! The tablet itself is the perfect size for your little one's hands and comes with a super cute and sturdy protective case. The display is gorgeous and battery life is great! Parental controls are a huge plus! Being that this is a Christmas gift I decided to set it up prior to, so that my daughter can explore right away! You have to be connected to Wi-Fi for set-up and it takes a while for the software to update but it wasn't an issue for me. Simply allow it to continue downloading in the background while you set up everything else. Item was delivered to my door literally the day after purchase, with no issues! Overall, I am very pleased with the product and I'm sure my baby will be just as satisfied.

The case does its job, the screen is perfect for my 4 year old. It comes with TONS of downloaded stuff with the option of adding more so that was a huge plus. You definitely get your money's worth. The only negative is that the battery doesn't last too long.. (Which is fine for me bc my 4 year old needs to use it sparingly) & that when u first download something it takes a while, but only for the first time. Other than those 2 minor things, great product!

I bought these tablets for my 3 sons ages 4, 5 and 7 due to the price, parental controls and most importantly the 2 year no questions asked warranty on returns. The tablets themselves are the full on base edition kindle fire hd's with the ability to use amazon's kindle fire free time to set up parameters around what content kids have access to and how long they can access different types of content. While I applaud amazon for putting so much control in the parent's hands I feel the interface could have been smoother. When inside the kid's mode there's no way to organize apps into different categories and there's no search function for finding new apps. Also the included memory is extremely limited as more than half of the on board 8gb is taken up by the system. Luckily there is a micro sd card slot which I recommend making use of as soon as you get the tablet out of the box otherwise your kids are likely to fill up the memory in about a day or two which all three of mine did. If you want your kids to have access to content that's in the amazon app store but not readily available through kids mode you have to download it from the adult profile then allow access for your kids. Again I feel there could have been a smoother way to accomplish giving my kids access to netflix. Once the tablets are up and running they do occasionally crash requiring a power down and restart. Otherwise my kids have been able to use them for hours at a time without issue and it is nice not to have to worry about them accessing inappropriate content.

Great idea for kids, but limited flexibility. The included apps take up ALL of the built-in memory, and with the Free Time app, it can be difficult to actually remove them, as the entire list is available even if the app is uninstalled. When the child taps the icon to see what the app is about, it is automatically downloaded and installed. And only apps with an approved tag of "educational" are able to be used on the Free Time app. This precludes apps like Pandora, Amazon Music, and Audible. Yes, even AMAZON APPS are unable to be used on this AMAZON tablet! Tech support assures me that they are working on getting it changed. Even with all of this, this is a good tablet, and the replacement warranty alone makes it worth the price!

This table is just perfect! It teaches my granddaughter many skills and is fun for her. The price is great and the warranty provides Peace of mind. I would recommend this for your child. So many free apps and it has adjustable parent set parameters. These parameters are flexable which allows the parent to control just how much your child can have access to.

I have originally purchased Kindle Kids 'cause I had to fly with my 20 month old for the first time. I read all the reviews and compared all the kids tablets that where out there, all I can say is This one is the Winner !!! I love that it comes with the case, parental control, offline videos and games, Amazon Prime for a month free, Freetime Unlimited for a year and 2- year warranty for anything ( being a kids tablet this one is soooo important to me) ! Do I need to say my toddler is having so much fun ?? She Loves It !!! Very happy !

This tablet has plenty of games for your little ones & the parental controls are great! It's nice that the whole family can use it instead of having to get 2 or 3 tablets which can be costly. The 2 year no worry warranty is definitely a bonus & takes much of the stress about breaking the tablet out of the equation. It's been a great learning tool for our 3 yr old & we are happy to have purchased the kid friendly tablet.

I purchased this tablet yesterday for my 4 year old son. There is a lot of content that is available for download so plenty to keep him entertained but the 2 major issues are the internal memory size and the battery life. After reading other reviews before purchase I was slightly prepared for the short battery life, dies a lot quicker than I expected but deal able however the memory issue is a pain. 8GB out of the box with over 5GB used up by system things that can not be removed. I had to purchase a SD today for him to be able to continue to use the tablet. He blew through the available memory in just a few downloads. We had previously had the Sprout cubby tablet for him but after going through 3 of them, screen just deciding to turn white while he was using it, figured it was time for a change. For the price this is a great tablet for young ones, parental controls are great and the 2 year no questions asked replacement plan from amazon is a big selling point. I would recommend this to others with the advice to make sure you purchase a SD card as well or you will be running out again later to get one

great price for a started tablet. i bought two one for a 7 year old and the other for a 12 year old. we have dropped it and the child proof case has helped from cracking the screen, great for little hand and is very light weight. however there is not alot of built in memory space and when you add mini sd card to the device all of your fire tablets are snyc so they share memory space. the prime timefree time is also a joke for older kids my 12 year seems to big for those style apps and shows. but i can see my 7 year old getting a good year out of freetime.

We purchased this for our daughter due to she was always on my kindle. We looked at them in the store and was just going to get the regular edtion of the kindle 7 for her but looking at the cases and all the programs already on the kids edition and was $40 more it was well worth the price. The case is very heavy duty and will protect the kindle. The games already loaded are great for kids as well as the apps and books she loves them all. I was able to download abc mouse on to it as well so she play it at any time. It does come with a year of amazon free time for kids and the warranty if she breaks it. Overall this product is well worth the price.

My 5 year old loves this tablet and it is very easy for her to use. Great screen size, not too small. Parental locks offer a lot of options. Only issue is that the parent screen pops up a lot (when you first turn it on, after using the camera) and it requires a password which can be frustrating for the child using. Overall a great purchase!
