A step up from the original Halo device

I feel like amazon did an amazing job with this fitness tracker. I own the original Halo device and each of them have their place. People who only want tracking without any distractions, the original Halo is a great option. For those wanting a smart watch style device at a great price point, compared to other brands, the Halo View is perfect.
Physically, I feel it is a great size. It feels good on the wrist although the main display sits on the wrist instead of wrapping around the wrist. I feel like that would have been a great design feature allowing the watch to sit more comfortably on the wrist. It is pretty comfortable overall though. I still can’t sleep with it though and that is just a personal issue. I don’t like having anything on my wrists when I sleep. I actually purchased the original Halo device to try to track my sleep but ended up still not being able to wear it while I sleep. The screen is nice and bright and I feel like it is pretty fluid as far as the touch screen goes. The app does a great job of running through how to use the device during the initial setup. All in all, it’s a nice sized, comfortable fitness tracker. I will say the charger for the device is a bit unique with a clip-on style connector. You have to make sure you line up the clip properly or it will not charge. I also wish manufacturers would include a power plug for the USB charger. I find myself always wondering if some random power brick I have is the proper wattage/voltage and also, I’m running out of charging plugs! HA!
The app is great. I found it very intuitive and easy to use. Setting up the watch was simple. It literally said, download the app to setup, on the device screen, and after downloading the app it walks you through the process step by step. Following connecting it to my device was an immediate firmware update which was pretty quick. Once all that was done, I watched the tutorial on how to use the device which I was thankful was included because it showed you exactly what you needed to know to interact with the device.
People question the accuracy of the sensors and data on all fitness trackers regardless of brand. I honestly don’t have a good answer as to which is the best and which is most accurate. What I can say is that this seems pretty accurate when comparing to other fitness trackers I have. I will also say that unless you have some scientifically proven device that is 100% tested accurate, you don’t really have anything to compare to. But its nice having something to give you a general idea of how you are doing regardless if its 100% accurate.
My one complaint with this device, and it’s not just this device, other brands do this as well, is the dreaded subscription fees. To use the app to its full potential you have to pay a monthly fee after the free year you are given. My opinion on this is that we purchased the device, why make us continue to pay to use it? It is very irritating and it’s becoming a new standard unfortunately. For this, I deducted a star.

Small Size with Excellent Battery Life

INITIAL SET-UP
Amazon did a fantastic job with making set-up of their new Halo watch simple. I had no issues or hiccups during initial configuration and set-up. Initial set-up is configured by the Amazon Halo app available via the Play Store or Apple Store. While the Halo app has worked flawlessly, I do find it a little surprising that another app is required when all my other Amazon Alexa-enabled devices are installed and configured via the Alexa app. Every single other Amazon Alexa device I own and use all use the Alexa app, including the Echo Buds. However, Amazon has done a great job on the Halo app.
USE
After a mandatory firmware update, the Halo View has proven to be completely reliable and issue free. After several days of use, the battery life appears to be about 3.5 – 4 days. That is a good improvement over my primary smart watch and fitness tracker, the Samsung Watch 4. That device struggles to get 2 days of use between charges, even with the latest and greatest firmware.
The Halo View is roughly the size of an AA battery, so that means there isn’t a lot of real estate available for the screen. But, Amazon made the most of what was available. The screen is bright and legible, even in the bright sun. Text messages can be displayed on the watch and while the print is very small, it is clear and bright.
All Halo View device purchases include a year of access to the Amazon Insights portion of the Halo app. This includes such things as recipes, suggested workouts, sleep tracking, etc. I give Amazon credit for establishing a fairly robust and thoughtful fitness app for such a new device. The fitness app and tracking on the Halo includes a lot of features all geared towards whole body health and wellness, not just physical fitness. I think the app is great and gives the user a bunch of ideas and feedback on how to improve their overall health and well-being.
NEGATIVES
While I am impressed with the comprehensiveness of the Halo app. The buyer needs to realize that your purchase only allows access to all the Halo app has to offer for 1 year. After the year, it costs $3.99/month to continue receiving and using the benefits of the Halo app. You are automatically renewed after the first year and the end user must manually go into their Amazon account and manually turn off auto renewal. This fee is not waived for Prime Members either. I could see charging for the app if the person wasn’t a Prime Member, but charging yet another monthly fee for an Amazon service sits poorly with me.
The screen is small. I will fully admit that Amazon did a great job making such a small display crisp and easy to read, but there isn’t a lot of screen to use. After having lived with my Samsung Galaxy Watch 4 for a while, I find the transition to the Halo View difficult. My Watch 4 has a much larger display that makes text messages larger, but will also display images in text messages, screen shots from my security cameras, and notifications from nearly any app I have installed on my Galaxy Smartphone, not to mention allow me to take calls on the watch itself, along with the ability to send text replies either by speaking into the watch or via canned responses. The Halo View only allows the user to view text messages on the device itself. Maybe there is a way to send a canned reply, but I haven’t been able to find it, or get it to work if there is.
My last negative, that isn’t necessarily directed specifically against the Halo, are the algorithms and tracking programs as a whole. I’m just not sure how accurate any one vendors’ devices really are. While each device has the basic set of sensors to measure heart rate, oxygen saturation, sleep, movement, etc. It is up to each manufacturer to develop a program to analyze the data a present it in a format to the user. The Halo tracks heart rate constantly, my Watch 4, only every 10 minutes, unless manually triggered, or during exercise. My Watch 4 and my Halo have large disagreements about my heart rate throughout the day, as well as my sleep quality and calories burned. My Halo reports I sleep like a champ, my Watch 4 says I don’t get enough quality sleep. My Halo shows I burn more calories throughout the day with a higher resting hear rate than my Watch 4. Which do you believe?
CONCLUSIONS
There is a lot to like about the Halo. It is small, comfortable, and lightweight. After having used a Watch 4 for some time, I am constantly looking to see if the Halo is still on my wrist and has not fallen off it is so light and comfortable.
The Halo tracks a user’s heart-rate constantly throughout the day and night. Lift the Halo up a little off your wrist at any time through the day and you will see the green LED always illuminated that tracks heart-rate. This should provide a much better picture and potential for better accuracy about the wearer’s activity and fitness level.
The Halo app is top notch and much more focused on user’s health and wellness than any of my Samsung Watch’s have been. I really like the one stop shop in the Halo app for workout ideas, recipes, and everything else health related. The Halo app is thoughtfully designed and makes a great companion to the Halo View.
Would I buy a Halo for myself? If I wanted a device solely to track workouts and use as a watch, I could see buying a Halo. However, after having used a Watch 2 and now a Samsung Watch 4, I wouldn’t trade it for a Halo. I’ve grown accustomed to all the conveniences that that Watch 4 offers. While the Halo is in no way a bad device, it just gives up too many features that I have grown to like and want in a smart watch.

Small watch with lots of function!

The Amazon Halo View Fitness watch is a great watch for all of your fitness and health tracking needs! Starting off the watch is very light and small, so it is comfortable on your wrist. The silicone band has lots of adjustment holes and even fits larger people easily with the large band. It straps a different way than most watches but is comfortable. It's important to clean the watch and put it on clean skin as there are multiple sensors on the bottom side that read and track information.
The watch has no buttons and is soley touch screen. There is no on or off button. It initially turns on once you put it on the charger and will stay on. There is a little touch bar at the bottom of the screen that you tap to wake up the screen. Then swipe up and down to go to the different screens. You can adjust the watch face with a handful of different options, but the rest of the watch is mostly centered around fitness tracking, which is fine because thats what the watch is for.
The watch is heavily focused on the use of the Halo app and is needed to set up and connect to the watch. It syncs and updates the stats on your watch so you can easily view everything. The watch monitors your steps, heart rate, calories burned and gets an estimate on your BMR for more accurate calorie burning. It also tracks a lot of different excersizes like going on walks, running, weight lifting , yoga, hiit, rowing, swimming, cycling, fitness training, etc. You can start, stop, or pause the the excersizes on the watch and view all of the data during the workout on the watch or after on the app. It also has tools like a stopwatch, timer and alarm. Viewing everything on the app is detailed and organized. The watch even tracks your sleep and breaks down how long you slept, rem sleep, deep sleep, disturbances in sleep, etc. Its been a great tool!
The Halo View app is subscription based and comes with a year included with the watch. The subscription price may change but appeared to cost only a few dollars a month. With out the subscription you can only track a handul of things.
Overall it has been an awesome, simple watch to have to track fitness, sleep, steps, and heart rate. Would definitely recommend!

Some Potential But Doesn't Really Deliver

Lots of features, but very basic without a subscription. The app is the best thing about this device, however it does require a subscription in order to access some really good workout videos, sleep analysis and a host of other features -- some useful and some perhaps not so much. I'm not sure how many people would feel comfortable taking pictures of themselves in their underwear in order to estimate body fat, or record their conversations to decide how they sound to others. I also don't have a lot of faith in the data as steps, heartrate, and sleep information seems way off compared to several other similar devices.
Overall the device has a low profile and is lightweight, and the band felt comfortable, but after a couple of days I felt some discomfort and found it had actually worn my skin off in a couple of spots. The display is nice for it's entry-level pricepoint, and is easy to read.
Other positive features are that the Halo View is waterproof, so you don't have to take it off to shower, the battery life is still strong after several days, and the View itself has an easy to navigate menu, although it is a bit sparse and most of the features are accessed via the smartphone app. It also comes with a one year subscription to access it's premium features. Unfortunately, if you don't want to continue to pay for the subsciption once it runs out, it's not very useful. It also lacks a GPS, and doesn't seem to be able to use the GPS from a smartphone.
I really like the app and especially the workouts, but I'm not sure how good of a value the Halo View offers if it can't track basic functions such as heartrate or the steps you've taken accurately. I can't really recommend it unless there's a software update that improves the accuracy of the Halo View considerably.

Great fitness watch for tracking most people. Swipe left on the screen to see you heart BPM, steps, calories, goals, activity points, and sleep. Swipe up and down to see more detailed data and access other features like timers, and settings. The color display is really vibrant and looks great. There are about 10 different watch faces you can switch to that all look pretty stylish. It's very sleek and slim, and is comfortable to wear. The watch band is different than most others, as you put the snap in a hole first, and then tuck the excess band under. It takes a few tries to get used to, but I like it better because you don't have excess band to deal with. Not sure why more watch makers don't adopt this.
I would also like to highlight the Amazon Halo app. Not only can you access a database of all your stats, but it comes with great recipes and video workouts. Pretty great one stop place for your health needs.
So why 4 stars? Well there are 3 drawbacks for me. The first is that it doesn't have GPS and track distance, so if you are a runner, you can't see how far you've run. I like to run, so that's a big drawback. Second, it's really hard to read text messages. It seems to only display two watch screen's worth of data, so if I get a group text, I only get a few names of who's on the text, and then it runs out (not sure if this is an Android issue, which I use, or if it does this with iPhone as well). I really like to be able to read my texts on my watch, and this watch doesn't really good for that. Third, and this is minor, I don't care for is the charger. Kind of bulky, and not easy to ensure the watch connects.
All in all, a solid offering from Amazon. Would recommend if the three caveats I mentioned above don't bother you.

This is my first fitness tracker and I have been very pleased with its features and functionality.
Part of my hesitancy about using a fitness band was that I don't like bulky watches or anything heavy on my wrist full time that could cause discomfort, especially during sleeping hours. I was pleased that the Halo View has a slim form factor and is extremely light weight. I hardly notice it while sleeping.
Battery life is solid, as I can go about a week in between needing a charge. I'll plug it in when I take a shower and it takes under an hour to top off the battery.
Features that I've enjoyed include:
- detailed reports on your prior nights sleep (what percentage of time did you get REM sleep?)
- the built in stopwatch is very helpful for my kid's soccer practice/games!
- step counter
- heart rate monitor
- estimates on calories burnt in the day
I find the Halo View to be a great fitness tracker, especially at its price point. Give it a shot if you are in the market for one!

Unexpectedly became my favorite fitness tracker

I’ve tried numerous popular fitness trackers and smart watches. These included $500 high-end smartwatches, $200 fitness trackers and inexpensive trackers like this Halo. The Halo View so far has surprisingly been my favorite of the bunch. It provides me with useful fitness data with no unnecessary fluff. It actively tracks my steps, calories burned, heart rate, sleep quality and overall activity level. However, unlike similar trackers, the companion app is where the Halo View shines. The app adds a ton of useful health features that help measuring mobility, improve sleep, improve mindset, analyze the tone of your voice and more. The Halo View screen is bright and vivid and has a raise to wake function. Battery life is phenomenal. I’ve worn the Halo View constantly for nearly a week and the battery is still over 60% charged. I only take it off to shower. Features are easy and intuitive to access on the watch and in the app. So far, I’ve only encountered a couple minor issues with the Halo. The first was difficulty with the initial pairing. The Halo paired with my device but became unreachable after starting a device software update. I had to reset the Halo by holding down the home button and repeat the pairing process. It successfully paired and updated on the second attempt and I’ve had no more connectivity issues since. The point system is the other downer and can adversely affect motivation. That’s because anything short of intense aerobic activity won’t really raise the score much. If you work a desk job it can really be a bummer. I spent what I felt was a moderately active day but only achieved a score of 1. I am admittedly a sedentary person but other trackers seemed a little more forgiving whenever I was moderately active. The sleep tracker is much more motivating. I was worried about the quality of my sleep but after a few initial “fair” sleep ratings, I made some changes to raise my score and saw my sleep score raise from fair to great. Speaking of which, the view is comfortable to wear 24X7.
Overall, I’ve been happy with the Halo View. It has all the features I need and none I don’t. The small unobtrusive size and ease of use encourage me to wear it constantly. The function and build quality are also pretty good for the price point. It doesn’t require frequent recharging like many of the previous trackers I’ve tried. It doesn’t have fancy features like ECG and blood oxygen measurement but I rarely used those features on my smart watch, opting instead to use my dedicated portable ECG and oximeter devices. Despite the low price, the Halo View does share some neat features with higher-end devices such as the user replaceable band. The companion app also provides a wealth of useful health tips and data for monitoring overall health that rivals more expensive trackers. These include suggestions and recipes for nutrition, meditation exercises and many more tools for improving overall physical and mental health. My favorite feature by far is the sleep tracker which seems to be pretty accurate and has helped me a lot with improving my sleep quality. The Halo might not be the perfect tracker for everyone but it’s perfect for my needs. More importantly, unlike my previous devices, it’s actually fun to wear and use.

I don't find any tracker to be perfectly accurate. I thought I'd try this one out. Wore it three days while also wearing a Fitbit Charge. The only thing I really care about is steps and activity. The Halo was 10 to 20 thousand steps below the Fitbit on a regular basis and often rated me as sedentary when I was actually moving. Fitbit might not be the best, but it's far better than this. I also wouldn't rate the app very high although set up was quite simple. Beyond that, not impressed.

Love it, fits well. I have very small wrists, most others I have tried on are too loose to give accurate readings. Especially the sleep program is helping me monitor my health. It is also attractive enough that I can wear on jy right arm and continue to use my Apple watch with cellular on the left. Completely satisfied.

I’ve had the Amazon Halo View Fitness tracker for about a week now. So far I’m impressed with battery life. I have owned 3 different smart watches in the past few years and the longest I can go without charging one is 2 maybe 3 days straight. With the Amazon Halo I have gone about 5 days without any issues (normal usage). This is a big plus.
Overall is a pretty basic fitness trackers. Not a lot of customization or options. Connecting to my Iphone was easy.
There are a few things I didn’t like about the Halo that really kill it for me. First the way the tracker is wore on my wrist, its upside down and awkward. Just doesn’t feel right. Second is the “pay wall”. The app says the first 12 month features on the app on free and after you have pay a monthly fee. To me that doesn’t seem right and a big turn off.

First, some details. The reviewer is a 19 year old female. The Amazon Halo is the "medium/large" variety. It was worn snug to the wrist.
The packaging for the watch was really nice and clean. It took quite a while to charge at first, but the battery has lasted well even though I have been using it to track my sleep. The watch is currently at 41% even though it hasn’t charged for 4 days. The charger is a really big and clunky clip that goes on the watch, but it works just fine.
The accuracy of the watch is questionable. The first night I used it to track my sleep, it gave me no data at all since it said I had moved too much. The next night it said I had woken up three times for 30+ minutes, but I was not aware of waking up at any point. I would think that I would remember a time that long. The heart rate monitor is extremely inaccurate. I compared the data on the watch to the heart rate monitor on a treadmill, a different watch, and my own count of my pulse. It was off by 20-40 BPM each time, which is well outside of what I would consider a reasonable margin of error.
When I went on a run, I tracked my distance and speed to compare to what the watch recorded, but I don’t think the watch recorded either of things at all, at least, not that I could find. It recorded my time, steps, and heart rate, but has no data for speed or distance.
The watch is comfortable, and the nights it did give me data on sleep, it was at least accurate for time in bed, which I did find helpful. I was impressed that when I was in bed on my phone, it knew I was awake and did not start tracking my sleep until I had actually gone to bed. I was happy to see that it listed weightlifting under exercises, as I have had several watches that did not include that as an option. It may be useful to disable notifications on your phone for the Halo, or it will have a notification that you cannot clear that informs you that the watch will sync regularly. The only way to get the notification to go away on my phone was to turn off notifications for Halo altogether.

I have not used any of these types of wearable tech devices, this is my first. What I really like about the Halo View is the many useful features. It tracks Heart Rate, Activity, steps calories burned, your general fitness tracker. There is also an interactive app and it tracks your sleep and can tell you what the quality of your sleep was and shows time in REM and the various stages of sleep. It does take a little getting used to wearing it to bed, but that was easy to get past. I do like the insight it gives into sleep quality and timing the most!
It also partially links with my cell phone. It notifies/vibrates me when I get a message/text and shows the preview/subject which is nice as busy as I am lately!
The con is the sizing. I ordered the Sm/Med based on the sizing recommendations and charts on the site. It fits, but I use the very last hole on the band. I would suggest upsizing to the Large band if there is any chance you are at the upper end of the S/M band sizing. Otherwise I am happy with it and recommend it for anyone looking for an entry level fitness tracker.

Top Notch Affordable Fitness Tracker

I’ve been searching for a new fitness tracker since losing my old Fitbit. It was a decent tracker, but I lost it because of its clip-on design. So, I wanted a more secure wristband style that looked nice enough to wear to work as well as play. The Halo View fit the bill. It looks sleek & minimalist, and it’s lightweight enough that I really don’t notice that I’m wearing it most of the time.
Here’s what I like about it:
- Set up was easy: After downloading the App, it paired quickly & walked me through every step in just a few minutes.
- Very affordable: It’s a great motivator, costs less than a gym membership and, coupled with the App, it’s a great buy.
- Comfort & Size: I have a medium-sized wrist, so it fits perfectly. But it has such a minimal form factor, that it would be fine for someone with a smaller wrist. The band is smooth & comfortable. I can easily wipe it down or wash the band.
- The HR monitor is just ok. It reads a bit high at times, but I’m not expecting the level of accuracy you would get with a tighter band or chest strap.
- It feels durable although it looks sleek & elegant.
- The large screen has easy-to-read data.
- Simple swipe up/down & left/right navigation
- The App has a surprising amount of features & probably more than I’ll ever use. Just to mention a few, it has a comprehensive activity tracker, workout videos, a body fat scan, a sleep tracker & even a voice tone analysis.
Improvement Wish List:
- I’m not a fan of the clunky charging clip. It’s awkward & takes some finagling to put it in the right charging position. A USB-C port would be better.

The Amazon Halo View retails for $79.00 usd. This fitness tracker is more than a step counting device. This also monitors your heart rate, is a timer, stop watch, tells you how many calories you've burned, activity monitor, watch, measures blood O2, shows text messages from your phone, analyzes your body fat percentage, and sleep analyzer. The Halo View is water proof (as they should be) and pretty durable. From full charge (at least for me), the battery lasted 6 days. I'm sure from all the movement including sleep movements are being counted and measured. Out of the box, comes the tracker and a charger. It pairs smoothly to any smart phone. PLEASE READ THE DIRECTIONS BEFORE PAIRING. You have to pair the device through the app which you can get from the app store. They give you a 1 year complementary subscription. But after that, you will be charged $3.99 a month if you decide to continue to use the app. The app is a very nice feature that illustrates every piece of data the tracker picked up. For my first fitness tracker, I definitely hit the jack pot with this one. Especially for the price.
