At first when I looked at the display model, I wasn't sure if I wanted it because it wasn't as fast as i was used to, in comparison to my iphone/computer. I decided to just go for it and purchase it, and now I'm so glad that I did! I like that I can instantly have whatever book I want in my hand within a minute. Another thing I like about this, is that I can just throw it in my purse and bring it anywhere! I love it now, and it's just so convenient. I highly recommend it to anyone who loves reading!

I wished it was just a little bigger. But it does fit in my jeans back pocket. I bought it because my tablet always had a glare on the glass screen. This is just like reading a paperback book.

Pros: - The display is crisp, it's like reading a book - The back light is helpful, I wasn't sure that it would be necessary, but I'm glad that I got the Kindle model with it - My library offers e-books for free. They can be reserved and returned like a regular book and the e-book is already downloaded to my Kindle by the time I can log off the website. - It fits in my coat pocket, although not small, it's a good size for traveling - The advertising is unobtrusive, no popups, just a single page when I first turn on the device - No short wave-length blue light to disrupt my sleep - Long battery life compared to my other devices, I haven't even recharged it yet after weeks of use Cons: - Basically, it's sort of "laggy", when I touch the screen to enter the unlock PIN, the numbers don't always get entered as there is a delay and tapping the numbers too fast means that one or two don't get recognized, and the screen flashes while it refreshes, the screen reverses the colors, dark to light and light to dark, when moving to the next page of a book, it's as if it refreshes the screen, but it's doing is very slowly, so that my eyes can see it happening. It's not something that I expected to see in a 2015 device with a singular function.

    Great e-reader but ad supported

My 10 year old son loves to read but his eyesight isn't too good. He has trouble reading normal books because of the eye-strain. We bought this Kindle to see if it helps, which it does. He can easily zoom in so the font is big and easy to read for him. We tried using our iPad but he is too distracted by all the other apps in the iPad. We chose this Kindle because there are no distracting apps. This Kindle works much better than our iPad as an e-reader because the battery lasts for a very long time and the backlight can be switched off for daytime use. The Kindle display is excellent with the backlight off and works perfect, even in direct sunlight. It is a little extra work to check out e-books from the library when compared to conventional books, and the selection is more limited. But with my son's eye problems, it is a no brainer. The only problem is, the $20 discount for this Kindle means it is Ad Supported. There are some annoying ads that can easily distract a 10 year old. I am a little upset at Best Buy because the in-store display said nothing about this Kindle being ad supported. If I pay Amazon $20, the ads will go away. I will probably give in and pay up, but I'm not too happy about it. I feel this product was mis-represented by Best Buy. They need to fix that.

Excellent device for reading! Easy to see and hold-I have an iPad but found it very heard to read a book on especially when outside. The Paperwhite is exactly what I was looking for. It's very light and simple to use. I got the device with ads and so far, they are not a bother. Only come on when the kindle is in sleep mode. LONG battery life. I used it everyday and have gone 2 full weeks without a charge. HIGHLY recommend this for anyone looking for a day and night tablet for reading.

This thing is great for traveling. I love to read on vacation and this saves so much space when I want to bring along a few books. The screen is amazing. It looks like paper, kind of has a texture like paper does, and the touch controls are intuitive. This device does a lot of cool stuff, including letting you subscribe to magazines/newspapers/journals. You can borrow books and preview things. AND there's a pretty massive free library full of literary classics. Oh, and did I mention that books are cheaper on here than buying them new in physical form? That's pretty great. There are a few nit-picky things below about the device, but if you don't care about the small stuff just stop reading here and go buy one. If you still read those things called books, it'll be the best technology purchase you've made in a long time. It's simple to search for books or authors if you know what you want. However, it's sometimes difficult to browse the store if you don't really know what you want to read next or want to discover new things. This is largely due to the processor speed (it takes a second for things to scroll/change) and the limited screen/touchscreen capabilities. If you don't hit exactly the button or swipe you mean to it'll do something you didn't want it to do. It's by no means bad in that regard, it's just that the ease of navigating on smart phones and tablets has spoiled us all. If you find yourself annoyed with using the store on the device, just go on your phone/tablet/pc/whatever and add books to your Amazon wishlist. The wishlist is easily accessible on the device and books download pretty much instantly.

This is an excellent e-reader!! Very lightweight, easy to use!! Love the fact you can download directly from Amazon....no need to have a computer. Excellent battery life. And, the built in light makes this an excellent reader when trying to read and not wanting to disturb your spouse. I feel the price is right for what it does. I would definitely recommend this product to any reader.

I am so loving my new Kindle paperwhite. I've been using it nearly daily for over a month now and it is my preferred Device for reading, hands down. I have read using my iPad, Kindle fire, android phone, iPhone, and of course, the good, old fashioned, hardcover and paperbacks, and I'll grab my Kindle paperwhite over any of them any day. It's light and so easy to hold for long periods of time. I usually read about an hour a day and I've only had to charge it once since I've had it. I keep the lighting on 8, which is fairly low, in the full sun and in the pitch black room. My eyes aren't the best, and I probably should update my glasses prescription, but I never have any trouble reading on this device. I purchased the version with the ads. I wasn't sure if I would be annoyed by them, but they're not a bother at all and don't Interfere with your reading at all. Before I made my purchase I compared it with the voyage, and although there is a difference in the clarity of the screen of the voyage, if you don't have the two devices side-by-side really don't notice the difference. I decided to save money and get the paperwhite. The only feature I really wish that it had is the option to reverse the text, black background and white text. I find this the easiest on my eyes at night in the dark room. At times when you touch on the screen to turn the page it does that automatically, so it is apparent that this could be available at some point. If you're looking for a small, lightweight, easy to read in all lighting ereader you can't beat the Kindle paperwhite.

On a whim, I decided to order a Kindle Paperwhite, and it was probably the best decision I could have made. I used to really hate the idea of e-readers, but it was a fault of my own that I'm now recognizing. I was one of the "it just isn't the same as a real book" people. While, to some extent I still love printed books (I work in the print industry myself) this Paperwhite does everything I would want it to. The e-ink used does not strain my eyes, it is perfect size for reading – big enough that you feel like you are getting immersed, but not so big that its hard to hold. Battery life is also really excellent! I honestly can't remember the last time I charged it and it is still putting along. I thoroughly have enjoyed my experience with it and think its a great thing to slip in your bag along with your laptop if you are someone who likes to read on the go.

I got this for my wife, who already had a working Kindle Fire. The reasons I did were primarily length of charge time and lightness of weight. Although the Kindle Fire was a good unit, it required almost daily charging or certainly every other day. The Paperwhite has a Long battery life - advertised at 8 weeks even with the backlight on. My wife reads in bed, a lot, and she usually charges it up bi-weekly. It has a backlight so reading in bed is ideal. Second, I weighed both the older Kindle Fire and the Paperwhite and found the Paperwhite at HALF the weight. Also, half the thickness. This is important when holding the unit with one hand, comfortably, while lying down. The "electronic ink" is very crisp and clear and easy on the eyes. My wife was very pleased and would not have purchased this herself on account of her old Fire was still working but since she received the Paperwhite, it is the only Kindle reader she will use. Finally, the comparitive cost at ar

After years of reading books via the Kindle App on my iPad and iPad Mini, I finally decided I had enough of the "glare" on these devices. I looked carefully at the Paperwhite and Voyage, and at the end decided the Paperwhite was exactly what I needed. It is half the price of the Voyage. The text is crisp and clear, and the device itself is very small - fits right in my purse. I find the device light to be perfect - because it does not auto-adjust, I can set it to what I know is the most comfortable for my eyes. I could not be happier. Because this is not the "latest" version of the Kindle (Voyage is), the magnetic Amazon cover and other accessories are available at a discount. I wish I had purchased this a year ago.

Getting the Paperwhite is worth it for the backlight. Now I can read at night without the overhead light on. This is a good size and weight. Don't bother purchasing the version without the ads. The ads only show-up on the resting screen and do not interrupting the reading process at all.

I bought this new Paperwhite Kindle mostly because I wanted one similar to the Nook Simple Glowlight that I already had - the included light option is perfect for reading in bed at night. I had had a Kindle Keyboard for quite a few years but having to use an extra light was a hassle. The one thing that I did not like with this new Kindle was the fact that it did not automatically download my library once I registered it with Amazon - I had to manually download all my books (over 1400) from the Cloud to the actual device. Unlike my Nook which automatically synced my online library once I registered it. Other than that, its size and weight make it easy to carry around in my purse, although I find that the battery life is not anywhere close to what is advertised (I think that battery life statement may be based on someone reading maybe half an hour at a time once a day - which is not me at all!) All in all, it's a step up from my old Kindle and I am glad I bought it.

I have been using eReaders since their inception. I've used many brands in the past including Sony and Nook. I replaced the Kindle Fire I had awhile back with a nook simpletouch with backlight (the weight of the fire while reading in bed got to me). This Kindle Paperwhite is the best eReader I've had to date. The pros - lightweight, easy to use, cool new features like telling you how much time you have left in the chapter and or the rest of the book, completely touch screen. The lighting is by far the best I've seen on an eReader to date. Reading in bed is awesome and the light does not bother my partner either. The screen is evenly lit and very crisp. The cons - there is no external storage space, there are no buttons except the power button on the bottom of the unit. The latter isn't so much a con... Just thought I'd bring that up for other interested parties.

The kindle is small and light. Very easy to use anywhere! After using the 2nd edition Kindle with the keyboard and hard page turn buttons, it only took about a half hour to get used to the touch screen controls. They have improved the interface and finding the controls you need to both browse your collection and shop for new books is highly intuitive. Best two new features are the improved resolution and the built in light. I purchased a third party case for it and like the auto off feature when the cover is shut. The special offers are not intrusive. Well worth the money savings in my opinion. Very pleased with the purchase!

It's been exactly three months since the day that I bought my Kindle Paperwhite. I bought a Kindle because I naturally enjoyed reading and I wanted a device with a nice battery. However I chose the Paperwhite because I didn't want any other distractions. I also thought it'd be pretty nice to have a device that can carry my entire book collection in as little 7.3 ounces. Before buying this device I had a cell phone that I would read on... Not only was that giving me headaches and causing my eyes to feel dry and uncomfortable, my phone battery would drain pretty fast too. I realized that reading ebooks on my Google Play Books app was something that I couldn't do forever. At that time I was still buying paper books and the books I would buy were usually around twenty dollars. I like to read but at that price I was more of a casual reader, maybe one book every three months. Then I thought why not buy an e-reader. So I did my research and committed to buying the Kindle Paperwhite. After buying it I realized that Amazon not only had millions of books in their ebook store(and that number is constantly growing), but their prices are so low compared to print. As a result I have increased the amount of books that I read. Now I read about two books a week. That might not sound like much but I have a crazy work schedule and I always love it when I can settle down for even just one hour to read. I didn't even know I liked reading so much, I didn't think for a second that I would give up on watching t.v., killing time on the web or playing video games just so I could spend more time reading(I would add social media but I gave up on that years ago). This Kindle Paperwhite has not only changed my life for the better, it has also become my most prized possession in doing so. I WOULD DEFINITELY RECOMMEND THIS TO ANYONE WHO ASKED ME ABOUT IT.

I really was against having a Kindle because I love the feel of a real book in my hand, but when I was traveling across country, I didn't have room to bring the 4 or 5 books I would need. Now, I love the Kindle. I find myself reading books more often because it is more comfortable to read with the Kindle as it is so light weight. Also, with the backlight, I can read in the dark when storms hit and my power goes out with no problem. Most libraries offer kindle book borrowing and with amazon prime you get a few free books to borrow or own each month, so I have actually saved tons of money by purchasing the Kindle!

I had a Kindle Key board for many years, when I drove off with it on the side of my truck it was time to get a new one. The Paper white is great, much smaller than my old keyboard. The back lighting is my favorite part, I can read any place without having to worry about lighting and does not bother my spouse if I read in bed. I really like this feature the most.
