I was flip-flopping on the 3700X and the 3900X one being inexpensive and the other one being just a tad too expensive for my budget. I saw the 3800X on a heck of a sale and that made my decision for me. Yes the 3900X is better in almost every way and the 3700X can be overclocked to just about 3800X performance but at the price point the sale offered...? SOLD! I put it on a MSI X570 Gaming Edge w/Wi-fi and used a Corsair H100i. I have had absolutely no problem with heat dissipation. I have heard people argue to either get the 3700X or just pay the money and take the performance gains offered the 3900X. But the 3800X met my needs for this build.

I was hesitant about making the move over to AMD, especially since I was wanting to switch over to the 3900x. However I could not find it in stock anywhere in my state and I had planned on returning this for the 3900x after ordering it online and receiving it.
If I were Intel, I'd be very very concerned. absolutely destroys the 9700k I replaced in every aspect outside of gaming. Now even gaming numbers are not that much better on the 9700k. Because I stream and am a content creator, this is the obvious choice.
I tried the 5700xt when it first came out and had to return it when the driver problems were too much to deal with. Which is why i was so apprehensive about making the switch. Apparently AMD has since fixed those driver bugs, but I'm still team Nvidia until AMD can come out with a card that can compare to Nvidia's top of the line cards. But their processors are a completely different story. If you were like me and pondering whether to pull the trigger and make the switch or not, take my advice and just do it.

This was my first AMD processor since my first build 18 years ago, great product, the fan that comes with it is incredible and you can overclock a bit without the need of a water-cooled, I am getting one later tho.
Just pay attention on your motherboard, I had one brand new but it was ready for Gen2 Ryzen not Gen3, so just pay attention when getting a new motherboard.

I am super pleased with this processor coming from an 8350 to this one. Runs fantastic and the cooling option it comes with seems to keep it reasonably cool.

I upgraded from the Ryzen 7 2700 and I’m glad I did. The 3800x paired with a 2070 super I can reach high frame rates for my 240 hz monitor while streaming at the same time! Not AAA titles but Apex Legends or Fortnite. I also do light video editing for YouTube and it edits videos great. Check out my YouTube @ Dr Sabbatical or my Twitch twitch.tv/DrSabbatical if you have any questions. Definitely worth the buy!

I upgraded from Ryzen 5 3600, and oh man! What a good choice I made.
This might be the best CPU I’ve had in my 20+ years of working with PCs.
I game on a 1440p 165hz Omen Gaming Monitor, I also do professional Music Production mostly on Pro Tools, and I do Video & Photo editing on Premiere Pro, Photoshop, Illustrator, and Lightroom.
This CPU can handle basically anything I throw at it. Pair it with 16 or 32GB of fast RAM and you’re good for a long time.

I actually bent some of the pins trying to install it and had to straiten them out. The pre applied thermal paste made it a little tricky. Once installed it hit the floor running and lives up to the hype!

Chose this CPU for a recent gaming PC build and am very happy with the result. I could have splurged on a GPU or a CPU and I chose a lower end GPU for now. The Wraith Prism RGB fan is icing on the cake and goes well with the rest of the hardware. Had a bit of trouble attaching the HUGE RGB cooler to the processor but, you really do have to turn the knob THAT hard to set the cooler in place. Thank goodness it came with thermal compound pre-applied as this was my first time installing a CPU into a motherboard, future-proof enough for me at this time. Traded in a 2016 era gaming laptop for this puppy and would do it again with Best Buy making trade-ins so simple.

I feel as if 3 weeks is a fair enough time to wait before a review. Purchased on 4/16/20 and had it up and running by the afternoon with a fresh install. This cpu has hit the mark for me. It's a monster, it so far has been able to handle everything I've thrown at it, without having to take a pause. High single and multi-thread cinebench scores, easily over-clockable, and buttery smoother loading times. I paired this with an msi x570 and 32gb of Corsair 3200. About 2 weeks after I bought a bios firmware dropped and a few days ago AMD announced that only x570 and the yet to be released b550 will support Zen 3 and the next generation of chipsets.
Only downside is that under load, at base clock, with the prepackaged wraith cooler, this thing runs hot. Gaming or benchmarking it's not uncommon to hit high 70s to mid 80s. After a few tweaks, new fan additions, and reworking of my cable management I've gotten to a steady mid 60s to mid 70s. Keep in mind the tdp of this chip and make sure to pair with a good enough PSU.
Even though I love this chip and don't have much to say negatively about it I'd really only recommend this chip if you get a deal on it. Amazon had a sale about 10 days later and I was able to get back 50 bucks on a price match making the price / performance worth it and only was about 10 bucks more than the 3700x.

This CPU is a beast. It's designed for professional work. It is more than capable of playing games, but playing games is not this CPU's primary purpose. I use this in tandem with an RTX 2070 Super for 3D rendering, AI processing, and video editing, and it's absolutely awesome for the money. Video scrubbing 4k is very smooth, even with effects, rendering is speedy, and the stock cooler is very adequate, though don't expect to doing any heavy overclocking with it.
The price premium over the 3700x is quite worth it if you're doing professional work, but with gaming, the price difference becomes more dubious, with the FPS more or less matching the 3700x within a few frames.
In conclusion: Professional yes, gamer no.
