Portable Charger for Gaming and So Much More

I discovered Anker products when looking for a quality rapid automobile charger and found theirs to be the best of several that I purchased and tried. Since, I have looked to them for quality designed and well-built products I thought that I would try the PowerCore. The Anker PowerCore Play 6700 is designed very well and particularly built for gaming, but it actually has many uses. The Anker PowerCore 6700 is ergonomically designed to fit in your hand and to snuggly cradle your smart phone. It has an unbelievable battery charge that boast up to 30+ hours. I have charged with it for two workdays using zoom and social medias throughout the day and I still have power left, so I suspect it really does meet that mark of its advertising. The PowerCore shows a series of lights on the product when it is charging. When fully charged these lights go out. The PowerCore can then be used to power your smart phone and while doing so, it automatically has a cooling fan which is a terrific plus. The fan can be turned off and on with a double push of the almost flush button on the left of the PowerCore. I play a few games, but mostly I work. This device has a kickstand that enables it to hold the smart phone while participating in a zoom meeting, viewing a You Tube, catching the TV news, and I am going to use it with the Miroir Micro Pro Projector to show presentations when the climate is safer and we are holding in person meetings again. The device provides a fit for all phones between 145mm and 164mm. Some reviewers have reported that the phone case must be removed in order to use the PowerCore cradle. I have used it with three different phones—all three different sizes with cases. It works with all without removing any of the cases or bumpers. I have even used it with the Microsoft Surface Duo, and it worked fine. Advanced technology behind the PowerCore’s design includes 3 fairly significant factors that minimize wear and help extend the life of the battery of the phone devices being charged using this device. The PowerIQ adapts charging output to enable full-speed charging, the VoltageBoost has been designed to compensate for cable resistance to keep charging fast, and the MultiProtect ensures total protection for you and your devices. It has a USB - A (12W) output and a USB – C Input (10W) and Output (15W) with the maximum total output set at 15W. There are a few games that I really enjoy playing and this device fits perfectly in my hands and allows me to do so. I do not play games on my phone often because it runs the battery down and makes the device very hot, which I know cannot be good at all for the life of the devices’ batteries. With the continuous charging from the PowerCore and the fan, these two problems are mitigated greatly. I would like to give this product a 5, but because it has so many wires that I think could be managed better, I am just going to give it a 4+. It is a solid, quality product that delivers what it advertises; however, even though I realize it works with various devices which have different charging capabilities, I do think the charging cords could be managed better. In any event I highly recommend it. With all of its uses, 30+ hours of charging and 18-month warranty, you just cannot go wrong with this purchase.

Sturdy battery grip that's perfect for me!

I'll get my only issue out of the way up front: Check the size of your phone in its case! I have a Galaxy S20 (NOT a plus or Ultra) with a solid but not overly thick case. This grip just barely fits my phone at about 6.25 inches from top to bottom with its case. If, like me, your phone fits then this is the perfect on-off accessory for mobile gaming. You won't need a giant battery case on all the time when you're not playing games and you won't need an external battery that you never know how to hold. What you do get is: -A grip that fits larger hands for mobile gaming comfort without being too big for smaller hands (my 9-year-old daughter keeps stealing it to play Roblox on her phone). -A fan to keep your phone cooler while playing and charging! Seriously - this is a must if you want to play games on your phone and keep the battery from overheating/wearing out in a phone before your 2 year contract is up. -A kickstand. I don't use this feature much myself, but I'm always finding the kid with her phone propped up, watching or playing. The whole unit feels incredibly sturdy, including the slide that adjusts for size. It also adds more than 150% to the battery capacity of my phone when gaming on the go. (6700mAh) Bottom line: I wouldn't hesitate to recommend this battery for avid mobile gamers, assuming you know your phone will fit.

As a long time fan of Anker, it’s no surprise to me that they’ve dropped another interesting and well made product. On the surface the PowerCore Play looks like another gamepad holder for mobile phones. Don’t be fooled – it’s so much more! It fits my Pixel XL 4, but just barely. Don’t expect to be able to use a phone this size with a case. I had to take mine off in order to use it. The side panel slides open and extends to fit larger phone. I didn’t see any actual measurements on the Best Buy product page – but a large list of compatible phones is available. The unit also includes a fold out kick stand. Making this great for watching videos and charging at the same time too! Using the included USB C cable I was able to get a full charge, plus still have a little bit left. If you don’t have a USB C phone, you can always use your own cable to connect your phone – but you will need a USB C phone to charge the PowerCore itself. If you need to check the current charge on the unit a button on the left side will display an indicator using a scale of 1 to 4 LEDS. Finally, a small internal fan rests behind a grill in the center of the unit. This is a nice a little feature to try and help keep your phone a little cooler during demanding gaming sessions. The fan is audible but nothing terrible. Just know that it isn’t silent and only kicks on when you plug your phone in. Is it effective in cooling, I don’t know. Does cooling making a phone run better, yes. TL;DR: Well made, great features, and cool concept. Excellent product for anyone who spends time mobile gaming.

While I really this product is mainly for gaming, it is so useful for several different uses, especially for media professionals who view several videos a day and use a lot of viewing programs on their phone. I was actually surprised as these chargers typically say they last long and then run out after maybe an hour of use. The Anker was very comfortable in my hands, had a great grip, and even the cooling fan was quiet yet effective. Here are my pros and cons: PROS - Amazing battery life; literally hours and hours --- so impressed - The cooling fan is such an excellent function with this; this is good for your phone too - I just noticed the kickstand for watching videos, and movies! CONS - Like many others I assume, I have to remove my phone case to use this; a bit of a nuisance - The accompanying cord would be better if it were retractable somehow - It takes a long while to charge back up after its full use This was especially helpful recently when we experienced a day's long power outage. This gave me several extra hours of phone use! I'd definitely recommend not just for gamers but really anyone who uses their phone a lot regularly.

MISSES THE MARK FOR ME (Large Phone, Large Hands)

REVIEW: ANKER POWERCORE PLAY 6700 - BLACK Best Buy Tech Insider Network MISSES THE MARK FOR ME (Large Phone, Large Hands) It seems to be a solution in search of a problem, but not executing well enough for me. I was excited to receive this and test it out. I do play games on my phone and watch movies and so on. I do start to run low on battery power after too long of sessions. Conceptually, this seems like a great solution. It is a well built unit, and I think it might be OK for smaller phones and children with large hands. It does hold a phone securely, and it does a good job of keeping your phone powered. It just never felt right or natural to me. THE FIT My phone is large, but not giant, it is only 6 x 3 inches. But I have buttons on both sides of my phone, so I have to carefully position the phone so that the buttons at the bottom don’t get pressed. I also have volume buttons on the side, so I have to make sure that side of the phone is always up. The springs to hold your phone in are strong, which is good. But, I fear if your phone is any bigger than mine you might risk damaging your phone by squishing it in the grip. TWO HANDED GAMING USE (Thumbs) When I have my phone in the grip, it pushes my hands too far apart so that my thumbs barely touch. Therefore, I can’t really navigate with my thumbs while playing a game in the grip. 3 Members of our house felt the same way. ONE HANDED GAMING USE (Hold with left hand, play with right) The grip is too heavy, the handles below the phone are too short. The grip overall is too slippery and can’t be held by one hand using only one handle. You generally can’t hold the phone by only one grip. USING THE STAND TO WATCH MOVIES Here the performance is OK, but due to an always on fan, the noise is a little distracting. USING THE STAND TO SCROLL SITES (new etc) This was a big disappointment, if you breath wrong on the screen when it is in the stand it will fall over. There is no way to scroll one handed when in the stand mode without knocking it over. Which makes me think that even trying to watch movies on a train or plane while in the stand it will just keep falling over. ACCESSORIES There is one cable included USB C on one end and USB A on the other end. They really should have included 2 cables, one small one for the phone to grip connection and a longer one for charging the grip. Unfortunately, the included cable is too short for comfortable charging and too long for comfortable use on the grip. Additionally, you have to keep reversing the cable. Port 1 for Charging the grip and Port 2 for connecting to the phone. BEST FEATURES - Long Battery Life - Durable Build Quality SUMMARY / CONCLUSION / RECOMMENDATION I think we have here is the age old expression, “Jack of all trades – Master of none”. It is slippery, and too short / heavy for a great grip. The kick stand is small and off center so it does not make a great stand. The grip + phone, becomes too big to reach the screen. The cables are either too long or too short depending what you are trying to do. Nothing about this feels “just right”. Your mileage may vary, and I appreciate all they were trying to accomplish. For me this is a No-Go.

I really wanted to like the Anker PowerCore Play 6700, but the cable just gets in the way ruining my experience. The grip on the Anker is very well constructed and holds a nice long charge for extended gaming and watching movies. The built-in fan is good idea, as it cools down my iPhone when it runs hot. My biggest complaint about the device is the way you have to plug in your lightning cable to charge/use the cooling fan. This totally ruined my experience using it. Because there’s no way to wrap or hide the cable, it just hangs off the side of it. I wish Anker would’ve just built in the lightning port on the device itself, and made it horizontally adjustable. The grip does fit many different sizes of iPhone models. I originally tried it on my iPhone XR and it fit great even with a case on it. I was also surprised to see that my new iPhone 12 Pro Max does indeed fit, only without the case on it. There is also a built-in sturdy kick stand, so you can watch videos or listen to music while having your phone propped up. Overall, I really wish Anker would’ve built in the lightning port on the grip instead of having to use a cable to connect it. This alone would have made the device great. Aside from that, the grip is very sturdy and made of good quality, the fan is a great feature to cool your phone down, plus the power bank lasts a long time. I can only recommend this, if you don’t mind the lightning cable hanging off the side while you use.

Before I used the Anker PowerCore Play I was a bit of a skeptic on the whole phone gamepad craze. But of late, I've become obsessed with playing Among Us so was keen to give this Anker product a try. This fits the new iPhone 12 Pro. The Anker PowerCore Pro extends and clamps down firmly. FYI, I also have a standard Apple Case on my phone (see photo). It fits phones up to 164mm (~6.4") and there's a handy measuring tool on the back of the box if you're in BestBuy and want to check your phone fits. Build quality of the PowerCore Play is good. It feels solid, not cheap. There's a little kick stand on the back so this also doubles as a stand for viewing content which is pretty cool. The bonus in all of this is it can also charge your device. A note/observation. The "fan" in the case only turns on when you're charging your phone. I'm cool with that (no pun intended) and not really sure why it has the fan - but it does. It's not loud, you do hear it but it's not annoying. The PowerCore is charged by USB C or you can use USB C or the USB A port to power your device (there's only an included USB C cable). I'd give this 5 stars if it also worked as a wireless charger because then it would be perfect! As cables are never neat. Also, FYI when the phone is in the PowerCore play you CAN reach the lighting port on the iPhone. The clamps that hold your phone snug leave plenty of room for that. Ergonomics of game play are great. Amazing what a difference having about an inch on each side and some extra grip has on game play. Seriously, if you need an external battery and want something that can also make game play easier or want a stand for hands free video viewing you can't go wrong. And since I am a huge Among Us fan - there's nothing sus about this Anker product :-)

Anker PowerCore Play is no doubt is a must holder I needed for gaming and using it for watching videos without the need to worry about battery or holding it upright. The kickstand equipped with this grip is sturdy and steady. It fits my iPhone 11 Max Pro perfectly. Two USB ports, type C is for charging and type Ais to charge the smartphone in addition to the exhaust fan to ensure the device is cool enough while gaming or doing an intense job.

Its a great cell phone power bank, however it is shaped so you can use your phone in landscape mode while you are charging it. You can watch movies that way or play mobile games conveniently while its being charged. It has a couple of USB ports on top (one USB C and another type A so you can charge the bank or you can charge your device while playing). It also has a little pull on tab on the back, so you can set your device on a table and watch movies that way too. It has a couple of caveats though, if your phone is too big (I will say "oversized" like a Galaxy note or other super big phones), they will not fit in the bank. I have an Iphone 11 and it fits well, however my Galaxy note 20 ultra will not fit at all, so take this into consideration. Other than that is a great fast charger that will let you play without draining your battery!

First off, I bought this controller when it went on sale. I wouldn't pay full price for it. Pros: Good ergonomic design. I have a better grip when playing games with the controller on. -Has a small built in fan to try to cool down your phone as you play. Does not cool drastically but it does help. Fan can be turned on and off by double clicking the side button on the controller that's used to see battery life. -Comes with a USB cable so you may charge your phone as you play. This will automatically turn on the fan feature. -Has a built in sturdy kickstand. Helps out when watching videos/ movies. Cons: Phone will not fit in the controller unless you remove your phone case. May work for slim phone cases. -Usb wire included may get in the way while charging/ playing. -Time to charge controller may take 1-2 hours to fully charge, but may depend on the type of charger you're using. Overall good buy if it's on sale and if you just need a simple controller for average games.

Makes it a lot more comfortable mobile gaming. I personally use it to play Wild Rift on my Pixel 4 XL. It fits with no case but its pretty much fully extended to get it in. My case is easy to remove so not really a big deal breaker for me but it'd be nice to not have too. The portable charger is nice. You can really hear the fans spin up but i personally just turn them off. Build is nice and sturdy. Everything feels quality. The only downside is the stupid kickstand. That thing topples over all the time for me and is pretty worthless with my phone.

The Anker PowerCore Play 6700 - Black offers a unique way to make your smartphone into a real portable gaming device. Compatible with most phone sizes, the Anker PowerCore will hold your phone securely allowing you to play without the fear of dropping it. With up to 30 hours of power/charge and a built in cooling fan this smartphone gaming accessory gives you the competitive advantage. I found this device to be more than I was initially expecting. I did not know if it was just going to be a hand held dock or just another portable power supply. It is basically a combination of both. The kickstand feature did not seem particularly useful for gaming, but if the device is being used as a stand or dock, it comes in handy. The cooling fan did not seem to be needed for my iPhone 12 Pro, but other phones may run hot after extended use so it may be warranted. The device is quite heavy but it does hold up to 30 hours of back up power. My biggest complaint is that you must use a cord to charge the device. If you are not using your phone, then it charges fine. If you are trying to charge and game at the same time, the cord gets in the way and is clunky. Was wireless charging an option - this would have made more since if it was possible. PROS - Solid build and holds phone securely - Can hold most stand phone sizes - Up to 30 hours of charging - Kickstand feature - Cooling fan for those phones that run hot CONS - Must use cord to charge phone even when playing a game.

Anker does it again. This device is great for turning the phone to landscape mode in order to play games or watch shows. For gaming, it has a console controller type of feel and allows easy access to the various buttons you need to interact with on the screen. When you want to set the controller down but still be able to watch whatever is on, there is a kickstand in the back that allows you to quickly set it down and have it be propped up for easy viewing. The battery has gotten me two full charges of my phone from when it was at about 15% life remaining. Additionally, there is a built-in fan that you can turn off but it helps you keep the phone and device cool to the touch while charging. The fan can be disabled as well simply by holding the button on the side for about two seconds. If I could give this a 4+ rating, that would be it. It isn't a 5 for only one reason. I wish the spring load would allow just a touch more space when extending it to set the phone into the cradle. I have a relatively thin case on my iPhone Pro Max and the fit is extremely snug forcing me to sometimes just take the case off so that I’m not feeling like I’m going to break anything. I would absolutely recommend this charger & phone cradle controller to anyone that uses their phone for games or watching entertainment. It simply creates a better experience with the added benefit of charging!
