I use this is for both surge protection as well as for battery back up for Cable modem, Phone modem & wireless router
If you are using a wireless router + an external phone modem like the Vonnage for ex: then the issue is there would be no battery back up for the phone modem. You could still find battery backed-up wireless routers that just covers the router only. If you are using your phone line on your home security system as well then you need to provide a battery back up for the phone modem as well.
This unit is good in the sense that it has a strip with battery backed inverter + surge protected output as well another strip with just the surge protection. I have thrown all my home storage network, phone modem, cable modem and the wireless router in this one and so far is working great.

I live in an area where we get power surges and blackouts every couple of months. With this I don't have to worry that they will mess up my home office desktop and laptop! It gives me enough time to go in and safely shut them down.

This does pretty much what it claims. When the electricity goes out, it keeps the computer running for a modest amount of time. Don't believe the software's estimate however, mine says "90 minutes" and I get about 15. However, this is more than sufficient to finish what I'm doing and go through an orderly shutdown. Believe them when they say the battery doesn't last forever - should be replaced every few years to maintain much hold time. One significant disappointment: we live in the country and have a backup generator (power goes out frequently) and the APC won't charge from generator power - must not be clean or steady enough.

plug and chug, swapped out an old less powerful supply and no problems at all. Worth the $$ upgrade for the extra plugs slots and backup power.

Great product at a good price from BestBuy. These surge protectors are long lasting and will let you know when the battery is going out, but they last really a long time.

APC has been around a long time. Need to be careful where you purchase. Best to buy from a supplier such as Best Buy that moves and sales a lot of these units. Some suppliers sometimes sell older stock and battery shelf life is not the best. Also, watch for sales as you can save quite a bit if your patient.

So far Ive had no problems with the unit. I followed the "precharging" instructions and have it all plugged in and ready for the next outage!

It's easy to set up and it works exactly as it should. Our last one was a CyberPower and it never quite functioned as reliably. Go with APC.

I purchased this model two years ago and had to return it because it because Geek Squad, Microsoft and the manufacturer couldn't get it to work on my PC. So I took it back and bought a CyberPower and it worked great. All I had to do was plug it in. So now it's time to replace the CyberPower and I figure by now APC has the problem corrected. Wrong, same problem all over again. I had to return it to Best Buy and again purchased a CyberPower 850VA, plugged it in and it works great.

First off, this won't be very useful if you're planning to use it for a TV or larger monitor along with a PC. This size UPS is best for small equipment that you need clean, conditioned, reliable power at all times. I bought this one recently for my 1TB NAS + wireless router, and that's it. This really is cheap insurance as compared to data loss that could happen with a brown out or worse. Again, I can't stress enough that if you're looking for a UPS for your tower PC & monitor along with a printer/scanner or HDTV & gaming console, have a look at a 900VA at the least.

I had to reset the breaker every time I attempted to use this product. It did not stay charged, when the electricity went off, so did all the electronics plugged in to the "battery backup".

I just bought three of these after reviewing various brands. Good price and hopefully will do the job. Easy to set up. I have one for my computer and one for my wife's computer, plus one for our expensive Hd TV setup. They have already proven their worth in the last three weeks. We constantly have spikes in our electrical power and it is reassuring to know that all my equipment is protected. Would recommend these units to anyone.

I purchased two of these since they were on sale and I really needed to replace one UPS for my living room DVR and need one for my Bed room DVR. These are 550VA physically small UPS and are backed by a highly reputable company. These are great for DVRs, HTPC, or just your home PC. It has surge suppression and will supply pleanty of power to cover most small electrical outages. There are two electrical strips, one for uninterrupted power and one for surge suppression only. One thing to note, absolutely no UPS battery will last forever. There is generally a 3 to 4 year life on an UPS battery (doesn't matter which brand) and so long as your electrical power didn't have too many power surges (spikes), all you need to do is replace the battery and you're good for another 3-4 years.
Specific to these two units I purchased, I noticed that the outlets on both of these devices had extremely tight connections making it difficult to plug some of my devices in. I guess you could spin this as a possitive that the plugs will never come loose. Other APC units like this never had that issue in the past for me.
I use these for my DirecTv DVRs because they take about 5 minutes or more to recover from a power glitch, and if the DVR is the only item on the UPS, it can last for 40+ minutes.
I highly recommend APC to anyone but ensure you are buying enough power for your application, like my DVRs don't need much power but if you're looking to cover a rear screen projector (or similar) where cycling power kills the lamps, you need something larger like the RS1500 for example to be able to give you time to shut it down and cool the bulb properly. Sorry, off topic just a bit.

Every Computer Should Have One

This series of APC backups provides a decent amount of backup time, very reliable surge/outage protection, and a decent number of outlets for a very good price. We live in an area with a lot of summer power outages and flickers, and these save me a significant amount of lost work and possible damage to the electronics. It is worth getting two for a home office to cover computer, printers, router, modem, etc.

We have used different UPS products at our office. APC have good quality, price and functionality.
Suggest buying online for in-store pickup. There have been several times that the units do not have an in-store display, the sales person says they do not have any, but go online and they are available to purchase and pickup in less than 30 minutes at the same store.

Great for unreliable power

I bought 3 of these because the power will flash for just a moment relatively frequently in my area. It's usually only off for a split second but it's enough to cause my DVR to go through its 10 minute boot up cycle. So I have 1 powering my 55 inch LED and the DVR, 1 powers my cordless phone base (I provide ON Call support and can't have a call cut off suddenly), and 1 powers my cable modem and wifi router.
So far the longest the power has gone out since putting these in place is just a few seconds but everything kept right on working as if nothing happened. I was shocked that it was able to handle the large TV so easily, but it was great!
What's really nice about the APC back-ups is that you can connect them to a computer via USB, install the software and disable the annoying beeps that by default alert you to a power failure. Since I didn't want to be woken up at night for a power flash, this was essential.
And thanks to Best Buy's price matching policy, when it went on sale somewhere else I was still able to buy it at Best Buy.
