I saw where someone wrote that you could not make the window fill the screen. Well you can go to the preferences and select display and choose 1027 x 780 strecthed and it fills the screen. Then use the screen sizer to fit your taste.
I-Work is easier than word, excell and powerpoint, loads more options and much less money. I-Photo has more than photo shop and the whole unit is really fast. I called and talked to apple about the extra memory but they said unless I was going a lot of games it was not necessary as os-x was more efficent than windows and they were right.
I even figured out how to transfer the playlist for I-tunes, transfering the library is easy the the playlist were a challange but can be done.
I am a life long windows person but this is so much easier, safer and has more features. Buy a PC of this quality and add all the programs the come with the I-Mac, then have to buy virus protection and you cost will be much more. Especially if you try and buy a all in one unit or a monitor that has the picture clarity and color display equal to the I-Mac.
for those interested in moving their playlist.
1. open I-tunes and right clip a playlist
2. save in my documents
3. email the play list to the I-Mac
4. open the email and save the playlist to the desk top
5. open I-tines and click File
6. go to Library and click
7. then click import Playlist
8. find it on the desktop and click open and the playlist saves itself in I-tunes

I have had this iMac for two months now and I can honestly say that it is the best computer I've ever owned. The processing speed, ease of use, fast boot up time helps me forget about how much I paid for this computer. But for the price you pay you'll be getting a superior product. Also the itunes player along with my iphone seems to run much smoother than on the PC I had before. Enjoy!!

Raised on PC's and got disgusted @ the thought of throwing more $$ at another one. Asked around at office and found majority had a MAC at home. Now so do my husband and I. Old dog - new trick? Not really! It's been a reasonably easy transition. Screen, built in speakers, keyboard are ALL amazing. Friends were right...you only wish you'd bought a MAC sooner!!! Absolutely encourage PC users to make the switch. You'll be glad you did. Wish our budget could have handled the 23" screen but the 20" is more than adequate for our needs. Superior product, no doubt! Insert smiling face here!!!

Apple was the first computer I learned on in grade school. It was the "Apple IIe". Then the next one was a Mac in college. I then bought a PC, for whatever reason, for my first computer. I got tired of the components failing or the computer software not working or having errors. I then read the reviews from this site. It convinced me to buy the new iMac. It was the best thing I have ever done in regards to computers. It was easy to set up. I just had to stop making it so complicated like you have to do with a PC. I will never buy anything from the PC line of computers again if I can help it. I love all the features of the iMac from the keyboard to the mouse. I love it all. It has made me enjoy getting on the computer again. I was able to load all my files and pictures to the iMac and it worked easy. This was by using only the software installed on the computer plus buying iWork '08. I was even able to import all my documents saved in Word format by using iWork '08. I will never go back to PC after experiencing the new iMac.

If you are the 1000 photo a year Dad or 100's of video hours mom , this is for you . I was a Pc. user for years and will never look back ...ever!! Everything is smooth and easy from 10 minute set up to burning movies to the most easy photo system Ive used . Apple makes archiveing and movie projects fun again with its seamless and easy programs made by Apple for Apple . I had years of photos building up right along side the countless hours of video .Now all done and waiting to do more . The program ilife is a great program for the family video and picture person with easy help menus and great results . If headache free creating and computing is what your after the MAC is for you . Seems like if you think it it does it .

We purchased our 20" iMac 2.66Ghz (current gen) about six months ago, so my wife and I have had a lot of time to get used to it and really put it through its paces.
First of all, this is a LOT different than your typical Desktop PC setup; the entire machine (and speakers) is in the display, and there is NO TOWER to place under your desk. This is wonderful if you live in a small place and desk space is at a premium. On this alone, it is a compelling alternative to a traditional PC desktop arrangement (Monitor + Tower + Mouse/Keyboard + Speakers).
The keyboard is very thin, and types like that of a notebook; it has excellent key travel and response. Perhaps the only gripe I've had with this machine is the mouse ("mighty mouse") scroll ball on top of the mouse gets dirty easily and requires some mild cleaning. Otherwise, the mouse and keyboard that this machine comes with is sure to delight even the harshest critic. My wife prefers a trackball, anyway.
We upgraded the 2GB of included RAM to 4GB and it has made quite a bit of difference when running multiple applications across multiple user accounts. Since RAM is so cheap right now, I strongly suggest maxing out the RAM in the computer to get the real performance it offers.
The included graphics card is no slouch either, it can run most current/last gen games (Prey, for example) and handles most everything we throw at it.
We hooked up an older 22" HP LCD display to our iMac to give us some extra screen real estate, and it was very easy. My wife does graphic arts so the added screen and Wacom tablet really make editing for her a breeze.
All in all, a beautiful machine and certainly worth it.

Apple i Mac

The i Mac's screen is very nice and HUGE !!! However, you cannot blow up the display to fill the entire screen, so it's really kinda wasted space.
The i Mac comes with a huge amount of programs. However, I can't for the life of me figure out how to use them.
ALOT of standard internet programs and features will not work when veiwing it on the i Mac. I cannot view some web pages because their not compatible to the i Mac. (US Mail website for an example, amoung others that have slipped my mind right now)
Another item that was a bone of contention: I figured because the i Mac is so different than PC's, if you need assistance from the Apple Store on using the i MAc's features, they would just help you. But they won't, they'll charge you $75 per hour for, "Personal Training." Very Flustrating !!!
All in all, if I had to do it all over again, I would not have purchased i Mac, if I knew then what I know now. The huge pro about the machine is the fact that you don't need to be concerned about viruses. But given the rest of the i Mac's short commings, its not a fair trade off.

I've been a PC guys since the late 80's and I will never return. I've listened and complained about PC's for years but have never, never heard anyone complain about a Apple/Mac system. It has taken me a couple days to adjust to different screens and user compatibility, but WOW what a difference. This a little spendy but in this case you get what you pay for and more. GO MAC OR GO HOME!

I've had this computer for over a year now, it works great, never crashes, even though my 7 and 4 year-old kids play with it all the time.
Only issue I have is I've replaced two hard drives already, the Apple people say is just bad luck??? Luckily, I got the Apple Care plan (highly recommended), so I haven't paid a penny for repairs and with Time Machine restoring the data has been very easy.
I would give it 5 stars, except for the hard disk.

Bought this iMac for the family a few months ago primarily for multimedia purposes. We've all found it to beat our expectations in most areas. The built in webcam, mic and wireless internet are brilliant. The integrated software (iTunes, iPhoto, iMovie, etc.) are all great. I'd recommend this computer to anyone!

iMac purchase

I purchased a iMac 20" computer on July 27, 2008, from a local Best Buy store. During a period of 7 days the imac would reboot itself about every third time I would use it. Within that period I re-installed MAC OSX 10.5 thinking it might be a software issue, it turned out not to be the case. I then brought back the computer to a Best Buy store and explained to a "Geek Squad" representative what the system was doing and describe the steps I performed to try to resolve this issue. I began to explain that it might be a hardware issue. The Geek Squad representative agreed that is must be a hardware issue and mentioned that the computer was covered under Best Buys 14 day return unlimited return policy. I was given a new iMac and since then I have had no re-boot issues. The hardware issue could happened with any electronic device, so this will not weigh into my decision to rate this computer. This iMac does everything I need it to do without buying additional software. In spite of the hardware issue with the first imac I would still give this apple iMac a 5-star rating.

Amazing

This computer is the most amazing machine I have seen. There is not one single thing I can find wrong with it. Compared to Windows Vista it is a God send. For those of you out there who are worried about gaming it runs World of Warcraft (on it's highest settings) and it runs as smooth as silk. On my old quad-core processor WOW didn't run this smooth. If you are in the market for a new computer you should get this version of the Mac. One last thing everyones says the price is the only hang up about this product and that simply isn't true because if you were buying a windows PC that even comes close to match this computer's power you would have to spend at least $2,000 maybe more. Mac's operating system is fluid and responsive and never annoying. No more kicking you out of your program to install new updates.

I just switched over to Mac after being a PC user since the early 90s. Being a "Baby-Boomer", I was a little concerned about learning a whole new system. I needn't have worried a bit. The Mac is simpler to use in many ways than the PC, and I tend to over-think things. It gives me a lot of the "Duh!" factor, if you know what I mean. I use my computer for my extensive music collection, photography and creative writing as well as transcribing from home, so it gets a pretty good workout. So far I'm in love with it. It does seem a little pricy but I'm inclined to think it's worth it.

I have been a DIE HARD PC DOS and Windows based girl for 20 years. Many friends had Apples throughout college and I turned my nose up at them...Well, through much trial and error and frustration with his Vista incompatibility issues for his Post-Grad degree my husband bought himself a MacBook. The more he used it the greater his boasting about HIS AWESOME MACHINE. My laptop w/ XP was on the fritz so I'd thought I'd take the Mac-guy out for a date and "use" it for a week or two then take it back!!! No such luck for me and my wallet...I kept it and know I love it just as much as my hubby does! Oh, and Boot Camp aka parallels is fantastic as it runs all the windows based ops needed! We are becoming a MacFamily!

Very Cool but Overpriced

OS X is an exceptional operating system, in many ways better than Windows. That said, Apple is still overcharging for hardware, and at times not using the best available hardware. Buyers should have a choice between an NVidia or ATI graphics card, and the displays should be 8 bits per color channel, not 6 bits per color channel.
Most of the built in software is nice, but once again, Apple squeezes a few extra dollars out of you: iMovie only works with imported camcorder video, not video files. So, if you want to convert your massive digital camera video files to a smaller file size, you still have to spend $30 on QuickTime Pro.
Yes, I love my Mac, but understand that these are not the perfect machines that they're advertised to be.

I got this computer for Christmas as mostly a family gift and my sister got a macbook for college and I feel in love with mac ever since. it is very sexy has a lot of built in features and time machine is got to be by far the best back up utility I have ever seen. if you want to run windows you can buy a copy and run almost any os as a second os along with mac os x. imac's are just awsome the are much more reliable and faster then any windows based system that I have ever owned EVER. the built in webcam is very high qualitty with a lot of bundled features. mac os x is just more personal and customize able.

Changing over from windows vista to an imac was a great experience and investment. Initially I thought Apple was expensive as opposed to a pc/laptop that was reasonable price. But with all the problems I had with Vista, the extra money was well worth it. I love the programs it came with, ilife, and its good to know a lot of them are compatible with windows programs like microsoft office, etc. I highly recommend this to everyone thats considering switching to a mac.
