    great mouse with right click

DeJuan from Cary, NC wrote it only has a one button mouse. This is incorrect; it actually is a 4-button mouse. (left top, right top, center ball, side grips) Just go to system preferences in the dock, then keyboard & mouse. Then you can set up the 2nd button. There are a lot of people out there that don’t know about it. Also: The ultrathin, compact wired Apple Keyboard comes standard with your iMac. Or you can choose the Apple Keyboard with Numeric Keypad for the same price if you build your computer at the apple store online.

Great Machine at a Great Value

I am a software Engineer with 8 years of PC repair tech experience and this machine provides me with everything I need for work and play. I am also an active musician and I use this machine for home recordings and the performance is great. This is my first Mac (been using Windows PCs for 18 years) and so far I prefer OSX over Windows now. If you build a PC with similar specs and add a 24" monitor with similar specs, you will find this machine is priced competively. You get what you pay for. Pros: Large vibrant screen (decent specs). Fire wire 800 iLife 09 (I photo, imovie, and Garage band perform with outstanding speed) Time machine is the easiest backup software I've ever used. Bluetooth Built in wireless Boot Camp (if you must use windows you can) Built in support for AIM, GMAIL,and Facebook Stability, Stability Stability. This machine is rock solid. Massive list of software features. Ram can be upgraded to 8GB Works well with my M-Audio studio equipment. Cons Have to purchase the external display connection separately Keyboard takes a little getting used to and has no number pad Mouse only has one click button, but any usb mouse can be connected. Only Ram can be upgraded easily, but with fire wire 800 internal hard drive upgrades aren’t needed.

From frustrated PC user to enlightened Mac user.

I have been using PC's since the late 80's and after recently purchasing a new 64 bit PC found myself constantly frustrated by continual problems. I have reloaded the OS on this and my other 32 bit desktops countless times over the last few years. I have always been very tech savvy and have gotten to the point where I no longer want to spend my time troubleshooting problems. I want to browse the Internet, listen to music and share photos with my friends and family as I am constantly shooting photos of my children. I have been using my new Mac for two weeks with no virus protection and have not encountered a single problem. I had 3 devices that would not work on my great new PC. Within 5 minutes, they were all working on my Mac. I burnt music and photos to separate CD's and guess what they played fine in my PC laptop. This Mac is incredible! Stop wasting your time troubleshooting software & hardware problems. You CAN use a computer without the constant concern of viruses. Pay a couple hundred more dollars and buy a Mac, you will NOT be sorry! My time is valuable and the Mac has made me a much more efficient computer user. By the way, I never thought in a million years that I would buy a Mac. Last, I know that some people don't consider Macs because of PC software not running on it. I downloaded OpenOffice for free on-line and have a full applications suite, it comes with photo software, music software, a browser and more. Also, I understand that the software that allows you to install PC software on your Mac actually runs faster on the Mac. Personally, I have no interest at this point to load any PC software as the Mac handles all of my needs, but it is nice to know that I will be able to do this down the road if I need to. I hope you find this review helpful!

Very pleased with my iMac 24 in

This is my first Apple computer which I bought a month ago. I don't know why I didn't buy it sooner. I have 2 Sony Vaios running XP. This iMac beats the Sony PCs hands down. The operating system is superior, boots up and shuts down quickly. The iMac quickly goes to sleep (1-2 secs) and wakes up (in 2-3 secs). The web pages seem to run much faster. A download speed test on speedtest.net confirmed my suspicions. iMac performed at 17 Mbps (vs 12 Mbps on the faster desktop Vaio). For a computer with a 24 inch monitor, it surprisingly takes very little room. My desk now has so much space. Using an iMac is not that much different that using a PC. It will take some time for you to get used to the menus and some keys on the key pad, but you will find it to actually be more intuitive. The standard small keyboard is also surprising comfortable. All new iMacs come standard with iLife 09 which has lots of useful photo, movie, music, calendar, address book, email, and other apps. It also has GarageBand, which is a musical instrument audio editing app. It has many features including providing the ability to buy lessons for learning various instruments. It comes with a bunch of free lessons too. iMovie is very easy to use and pretty sophisticated. The face recognition feature in iPhoto to identify people is nothing short of pure astonishment. The dashboard widgets are very practical and come in handy for getting relevant information very quickly. I bought iWorks (for word processing, spreadsheet and presentations) which costs a fraction of MS Office and is much more powerful and easier to use. iMacs come with a built in camera which works perfectly with Google’s Video chat. You NEED to try it out. I video chatted with my out of state friend who also has an iMac for free. The picture and motion were clear. We used our phones initially to go through the setup process, but found that the sound on Google was better than our cell phones, so we hung up and talked and saw each other. My friend said that he felt like I was sitting in his living room! He said that this worked much better than on his Dell computer. I am a very frugal person and took me a long time to justify paying more for a Mac, but this iMac was worth every penny. I had a very positive experience at every step in the buying process -- research on apple.com, buying from Apple Genius, packaging, setup and use. I am already eyeing another iMac. All I can say is that “it just works”.

    What a difference!!!!!!

Went to a store in VA over the long weekend planning to buy a quad core PC. This store also happened to carry the macs (not all bestbuy stores do though it is available online). Looked at many PCs multiple times and went over to the Mac station and wow what a difference! The iMac simply wowed me and blew me off! Be it the display, speed of it or even the relative ease of using it especially for a novice user. Initial 2 days were of course not pain free especially the paradigm shift from a PC as you realize you have to do quite a few things differently. After that it is all a breeze and I started wondering "why did I ever use a PC in the first place"?!! I gave it 5 stars for most but reliability ratings should be done by someone who has used it for sometime, which is not me as of yet and I still gave it a 5 based on opinions of friends who were long-term mac users, looking at reviews here as well as other sites. I gave it a 4 stars for value for price as these are still more expensive than the PCs and with a display like this would have liked to have a bluray player support. Also one notable omission is a card reader which of course can be bought for dirt cheap these days. Being a university employee, bestbuy offered to pricematch either the 100$ off or the iPod Touch free offered on apple (but as an instant rebate unlike a mail in rebate on apple). Of course, took the iPod option as a bonus which my daughter wanted to have. Cannot be happier!

Pros - All-in-one design reduces clutter - Large, clear screen - Useful software included - Built in wireless - Compatible with a wide variety of devices - Plenty of storage space, almost eliminates need for external hard drive Cons - Difficult to transition from Windows to Mac OS - Expensive compared to other desktops - Some software programs not Mac compatible

I've been a life long MS DOS/Windows user and have grown increasingly more dissatisfied with windows instability and thought I would give Apple a try. After looking objectively at my home needs I felt the iMAC would work well for me and I am very impressed. Setup really is a no brainer, it really is plug and play and there is no need to spend hours removing unwanted software like with a PC. Performance is very impressive, fast and graphically excellent. This machine comes fairly well populated with software and for my purposes only need the addition of iWorks to meet all my needs. If, like me, you've been a PC user it takes a bit of getting used to with the mouse and the keyboard is not very desirable but is functional. Some may not care for the limits in upgrades (memory can be upgraded) but what this system comes with coupled with my computing needs I see no needs for upgrades in the foreseeable future. Thus far, this has proven to be the best computer decision I've made. Highly recommended.

I have always used PC, for past 15 years or so (since windows 3.1) and decided recently about switching to Mac. I can't over emphasize how pleased I am. This is how all computes should be built, from it's start up/shutdown time (just a few sec); it's intuitiveness, and it's speed. I run many apps at the same time and have not seen any perf issues. Mostly I am using this for pics, videos, word docs, all standard stuff and I gotta say in every aspect it blows away anything I've ever used on a PC. I've even switched browsers, and I used firefox on PC. I've installed in on my Mac but find myself using Safari, I love the way the search works. I am sold on the iMac.

    Best Computer I've Used

Operating system loads in 23 seconds and unlike a Windows box once it's booted you can open programs and not wait around with an hourglass while a dozen programs load in the background. I use my iMac for graphic design and print work. Dealing with 125MB files is a breeze for it. If your a graphic designer the mighty mouse is excellent in Photoshop or anything where you need to zoom. I have no complaints about the hardware, only thing I would recommend is to get the FULL keyboard. Tiny keyboard is cool but it's not functional for me having to deal with numbers a lot. Leopard is by far the best OS I have ever used, kudos to Apple.

I bought this computer about a month and half ago and i have never looked back. I had been a dedicated windows fan and user but it always let me down time after time. I even spent a hefty sum on my last windows $2500, but it was never worth it. Ever since i got an iMAC i have had no problems whatsoever. Its so easy to use its unbelieveable. To write this review i had to sign up i had jus t filled in a few letters when to my surprise everything was filled up correctly . Then theres the looks it looks so good sitting on my desk and there is no wire clutter and it hooks up with my cell phone using bluetooth.

I have waited to write this review to make sure that no unforeseen issues came up. I have used my iMac for about 3 months now and I still discover new features everyday. I was able to use it about 5 minutes after I opened the box. The screen is amazingly clear. Movies are perfect. Every Word/Excel files are usable on the Mac, I do suggest buying iWork, Pages (the Mac "Word") is hands down better, more effective and just more fun than Microsoft Word. The best part about this Mac is the ease of use compared to a windows based system. Sell your car, sell your house and go buy a Mac. You will love it

    Awesome All-in-One

When I got word that Apple was refreshing their line of iMacs I knew it was only a matter of days before I would buy one. In the past, the iMacs I've wanted have always been a bit too expensive for my blood. So when Apple upped the specs and lowered the price, I was all over it. I got mine a few days ago and here are my thoughts... What I was impressed with the most is how simple it was to set up. In the box was literally the All-in-One display/CPU, keyboard, and mouse. One cord powered the entire thing. That compared to the jungle of cords from my PC was a relief. Since I had my Apple ID through my MacBook, I only had to enter that and all of my information for setting up the computer was pulled over. From there it was smooth sailing. The monitor is easily adjustable and the stand doesn't take up much room on my desk. The keyboard is incredibly small, but the keys have great travel. One word of advice, make sure to get the keyboard with the navigation and number key pad. Unless specified, it will only come with the letter pad and the F1 to F12. The mouse cord was a bit short and I ended up using my Wireless Mighty Mouse. As far as software goes, Mac OSX is still very stable and responsive. I love how intuitive everything is. A year later, I've yet to have to reinstall it clean. Overall, despite the high cost, I am very happy with my new iMac. I've installed Windows XP Professional using Bootcamp so I can still play my video games, but ultimately, I think OS X is enough.

    Apple scores big!

Okay, I read the reviews on here, and decided I had to post one of my own. Someone lists a CON about the mouse being a single click mouse only...WRONG! You can go to the setup under system preferences and set it up to have dual clicking buttons. Obviously, that review was written by a windows user who doesn't read the instructions. Also, as far as a short cord goes on the mouse, you can plug it into your keyboard USB side ports, so you shouldn't need a very long cord to use the mouse. Also, you can get the keyboard with the number pad if you mention it up front for no charge. This is an iMAC folks, things are going to be different, but let me tell you, if you give it a chance you'll find this to be a superior computer when compared to any windows all-in-one system out there. I've been a windows user for 20 years, and I am amazed at how much faster & easier it is to use Leopard. You boot it up, and within 10 seconds from the time you press the power button, you're surfing the web. No annoying wait times for everything to load, updates to run, or virus scans to take place. Do yourself a favor, go to an Apple store, or Bestbuy and play with one of these for a while before purchasing. With a little patience, and time I think you'll quickly see how superior Apple products are and what a bargain this machine is for $1,499!

The new mac includes a much larger harddrive, and upgrades ram. With the upcoming upgrade of Snow Leoaprd at the end of the year. the RAm can be increased much higher (doubled to 8 gb). I am not sure why people think it can not be upgraded on the RAM but whatever. It is a great machine for the money. and no viruses or worries about constant crashes make it well worth it.

Finally replaced my 20" imac g4 that is still going strong just not fast. This machine has amazing build quality and is so fast with 4gb of DDR3 ram. Had the hard drive upgraded to a 1.5tb seagate barracuda by the geek squad for some serious storage, with over 5,000 photos in iphoto it doesn't even hiccup scrolling through and loading, very impressed.

The Mac OS is much different from the PC OS. It takes a little time to get all the shortcuts and ideas on how some programs work under the Mac OS but overall a much improved OS compared to Windows Vista (I'm looking forward to the $29 upgrade fee versus the cost of the new Windows 7 fee). If you need any help the Apple web site has numerous videos on how each program works and answers to any of your questions. Like a PC the Mac doesn't come with a great word processor but one that will get anyone by if they don't need heavy editing controls. iWork does the same a the Microsoft Office Suite but at a much lower price which was a nice add on. As for gamers, I bought this Mac and thought I couldn't run pc games on this but found several cheap programs (and free ones) that will allow you to run full pc based programs on the Mac. If this doesn't work for you, you can run Windows on the Mac using Boot Camp. In all this computer was a GREAT BUY!!!! Glad I made the switch over from pc to Mac. No more having to look up virus protections or waiting for Windows to boot up slower and slower everyday.

I bought my 1st computer, an HP Pavillion, at Costco for $1200 in 1998.. I splurged then and had a nice Windows 98 OS which served me well for many years. Some shake there head that I only did an XP upgrade and owned it that longl. But I grew tired of constantly being under attack, badware, spyware, virus. At the end all my computer did was grind away with multiple processes and applications which just slowed everything to a halt.. when it didn't just freeze up. I researched this purchase for a good 3 or 4 weeks. I got to know all the salespeople at every store on a first name basis. I never used a pc for heavy duty business and office applications. I f you or your business is not married to the pc get the mac. The pictures, the music, the movies, the ease of internet and e-mail is unsurpassed. By the time you buy a pc and do all the add-ons to make it comparable to a mac the price ain't gonna be that much different. Buy it....you'll definitely enjoy it. It is worth it! I bought the entry level 24 inch screen. I absolutely love it!!! The OS alone is worth the price of admission

Comparing to windows, the iMac and its os Mac OS X Leopard (v10.5.7) are far more productive than XP, Vista, Windows 7. Macs are for those people who like to get things done quick, and not just quick but we want to get them done the right way. The right way as in we can go back in time with the help of Time Machine if we accidentally delete the project or keynote presentation were working on, and we dont have to worry about losing anything because of Time Machine's automatic back up every hour on the hour. I can go on and on and on, but i think ill stop here and let you try out the iMac or any other Mac and Mac OS X Leopard!!!!!!

Was unsure about buying a Mac. The guys at Best Buy sold me on it, and I am very happy with it. THANKS! Not going back to a PC again. Very fast! Unlike a PC, it hardly takes any time to boot up. Like the screen. Since I have previously been using a PC, it has taken a little time to get use to the OS on the Mac, but it is worth it. Not having to worry about viruses is a major plus. Like iLife and iWorks. It took no time to set up, and transferring all my data from my PC was no problem. Haven't encountered any problems. I say that in the long run it's worth spending a little extra for. You won't be disappointed!
