WHY SO EXPENSIVE?
- Let’s get the first vomit inducing point out of the way. Apple products cost a premium, so you can get an elite status saying, “look at me I’m rich or willing to sell my kidney for one of their products.” Now that we are done with that lets move on.
- You are buying an actual keyboard, with full-size, backlit keys, with a scissor mechanism with 1mm travel that are quiet. These are the same switches and keys that are used on their newest laptops.
- The backlit keys work in conjunction with the light sensor of your iPad to work dynamically based on your environment.
- You are buying an actual track pad, that is a single piece of glass, designed with multi-touch gestures in mind, with equal pressure points across the entire pad. It may be small, but I doubt you’ll find a better one in a case and you’d be hard pressed to find a better one in a laptop.
- This “Case” provides front and back protection.
So, is this keyboard case ridiculously expensive? Compared to other Apple products. Not at all. It is competitively priced. Compared to non-apple products? You are paying about twice as much. But for that price you are getting the absolute best peripherals (mouse and touchpad) that seamlessly work, requires no extra hassle, and fits all together in a single package.
OTHER FEATURES:
- The iPad attaches to the floating cantilever design via magnets which allows for easy placing and easy removal, so you can easy go from “laptop mode” to “tablet mode” to draw on it or use it for other things. Which other cases don’t allow you to do easily.
- The floating cantilever design also gives you the ability to find the best angle for any given circumstance. Whereas, most other cases just allow you to pick between a couple different choices. This gives it the maximum portability as it can be used on nearly any surface.
- It comes with a USB-C port for passthrough charging via the 3 pogo pins. Which could also be argued is wireless charging for your iPad. This also frees up the USB-C port on your tablet for other things.
- This case doesn’t have a battery, doesn’t need to be charged, and doesn’t need to be turn on or off. As it is powered completely by the three pogo pins from the iPad itself. Once it attaches the keyboard seamlessly connects, as does the trackpad, and produces less lag than its Bluetooth counterparts. Once you remove the iPad everything powers down and disconnects just as easily.
- First time setup is seamless. You place your iPad on the stand, and it does everything for you. You just start typing or using the mouse immediately.
CUSTOMIZABILITY:
- Cursor color,
- Size,
- Tapping,
- Pointer speed.
- Form shaping
- Etc.
LAYOUT OF THE KEYBOARD:
I wish there as an actual delete key as I tend to use that often. But Instead I have to use control D. Also, for the 11 inch model not everything is full sized like it is for the 12.9 inch model.
PROS:
- In true Apple fashion it just works.
- Keys feel great to type on and are very responsive.
- Mouse pad feels excellent. I am very picky and hate most mouse pads. But this has excellent feel, your finger moves smoothly over it, and the clicks are crisp and just the right pressure no matter where you press.
- Can use the same shortcuts on the iPad as you use for the Mac for the most part.
- Touch controls on mouse are intuitive. You think this should work and it usually does.
- Heavy which is a good thing. This allows it to not just fall over when placed on a desk or in your lap. As the heavy part is the tablet itself which is opposite of a normal laptop.
- The whole thing is solid. It feels quality. The hinge is stiff, hard, and snaps into place. The magnets are strong, so your device doesn’t just fall off. This makes it ultra-portable.
CONS:
- Battery drains just a bit faster than without the keyboard. This is very minor.
- Hard to adjust the brightness of the keyboard. It doesn’t need function keys but adding that to the arrow keys would have been nice.
- Mouse support still has a way to go before it feels like a true laptop. As somethings that feel intuitive to do on a laptop still doesn’t work well on the iPad.
- Click and dragging text. Especially in Microsoft Word.
- In YouTube app (which I don’t think supports keyboards) you can click next video panes. Must use your finger instead.
- Mouse doesn’t always register you are over a click area. So you have to move and then replace or just use your finger.
-When selecting a place inside a word it will highlight the whole word instead of where the cursor is. Which then makes you have to use the arrow keys to be perfectly exact.
- Mouse would not always click on things and I instead had to use my finger. This should improve with future updates. It was better when _ feature was turned off.
- Heavy. Which takes the overall weight of the iPad over some of the lightest laptops.
- Not all apps support keyboard and mouse. Such as YouTube.
- Scissor key switches are susceptible to dust and debris. Also, does not do well with liquids.
CONCLUSION:
This is a classic Apple product. In the sense that it just works, and it elevates the overall experience of an existing product. But cost is huge. But in my opinion worth it for my needs. But that will be a choice you will have to make yourself. If the cost is justified by the things you gain from it.
For me, I had two problems with the iPad. The first being it was hard to get into a super comfortable position when you were using it. As you either had to hold the device or put it in a case and choose one of two positions to get the right angle and only if it was on a hard surface. Forget about using it on your lap or while prone. And if you had to move it around a lot it would fold into itself often and usually require two hands to set it back up. So, there was a huge lack of stability and portability there. This is completely solved with this new case. As it takes on everything that is great about a laptop but in a smaller package. I can lay prone and put it on my chest. Or I can set it on any surface and type. If I’m working out or fixing something while watching a video it is easy to place and move around with one hand.
The second problem I had was I had a hard time making it a productive device without keyboard and mouse support. I’ve used my iPad as a tablet for a long time, but I struggled to make it a productive device. Immediately, and I mean immediately upon attaching this keyboard my tablet went from being just a tablet to a productive machine. As it feels like a laptop but in a more compact form. Most of the apps that I used worked seamlessly with mouse and keyboard and I forgot I was using a tablet at all. The screen itself is great. As is the battery life.

A keyboard so good, it's magical!?

I'm an average person, just like you. I use my iPad for a variety of tasks, including writing, browsing the web, watching videos, and playing games. I'm not a tech expert, but I know what I like in a keyboard.
I've been using this keyboard for a few weeks now, and and it's the best keyboard I've ever used with my iPad. It's comfortable to type on, it has a great trackpad, and it's very portable.---------------------------------------------------------------------
DESIGN AND BUILD QUALITY
This is a beautifully designed and well-built keyboard. It's made of high-quality materials, including aluminum and plastic. It is very thin and lightweight, but when you add up the iPad it gets a little bit heavy, but it's easy to carry around.
It has a floating cantilever design, which means that the keyboard deck is suspended above the base. This gives it a sleek and modern look, and it also makes it easier to clean.
The keys are backlit, so you can see them even in low-light conditions. The keys are also well-spaced and have a comfortable amount of travel.
Overall, this keyboard is very sturdy. It doesn't flex or bend when I'm typing on it and is very quiet. I can type on it without disturbing my wife. It's easy to clean, I can simply wipe it down with a damp cloth.-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
TYPING EXPERIENCE
The keys are well-spaced and have a comfortable amount of travel. They also have a nice tactile feedback, which makes it easy to tell when you've pressed a key.
It's comfortable it is to type on. I can type for long periods of time without my fingers getting tired and is very quiet.
I'm a somewhat fast typist, and the keyboard keeps up with me, and even though I'm not a touch typist it makes it easy to type accurately.
I like the fact that the keys are backlit so I can type on it even in low-light conditions.-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
TRACKPAD
It has a great trackpad. It's large relative to its size, responsive, and it supports a variety of gestures.
It's made of glass, which gives it a smooth and comfortable feel. And it's also very accurate, making it easy to point and click on things, and also supports a variety of gestures, such as swiping to scroll, pinching to zoom, and tapping with three fingers to show Mission Control. These gestures make it easy to navigate your iPad and interact with apps.
I like the fact that the trackpad is large. It gives me plenty of space to move my finger around. And, it's very accurate, I can easily click on small icons and text.
I like the fact that it supports gestures because it makes it easy to navigate my iPad and interact with apps.----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
ADDITIONAL FEATURES
The keyboard has a few more features that I like:
I like the Touch ID sensor. It makes it easy to unlock my iPad, and it's more secure than using a passcode.
I like the USB-C passthrough port. It allows me to charge my iPad while it's attached to the keyboard, so I don't have to worry about running out of battery.
I like the adjustable viewing angles. I can find a comfortable position to work or relax, no matter what I'm doing. The additional features make it a very versatile and convenient keyboard.----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
CONCLUSION
This is a great keyboard for the 11-inch iPad Pro. It's well-designed, well-built, and has a great typing experience. The trackpad is also large, responsive, and accurate. It also has a few additional features that make it very useful, such as the Touch ID sensor, USB-C passthrough port, and adjustable viewing angles.
Overall, I'm very happy with it. It's the best keyboard I've ever used with my iPad even though it is the most expensive too.

If you want to use your compatible iPad like a laptop and take iPadOS’ capabilities to the max, get this case.
The typing experience is great in that the keys provide good feedback and the touchpad works extremely well. The latter provides a great mouse-like experience and gives users more laptop-like options when using apps that provide support for it.
The cantilever design also gives users the capability to change and provide a variety of angles of view when using your iPad, making for a great overall experience. Another great perk is that there’s a charging port on the case itself allowing for your port on the iPad itself to be free for accessories.
The only downside is that you can’t use your iPad in portrait orientation. You must take it out of the case. It’s not that big of a deal since it’s magnetized and removing it and putting it back on is not that big of a deal; it’s quite easy in fact.
As I type this on the Magic Keyboard itself, all I can say is that I highly recommend this. I love using it and it’s definitely contributed to my using my iPad more due to it being much more convenient than pulling out a full-sized laptop.

Great Design, and workability. Apple quality is far above the other competitors products. Although other versions will suffice, this keyboard has it all. I use this with my iPad Air 5th generation. It gets charged when it connects magnetically to iPad. The price is significant and it should be considered if you are anything but a graphic designer.

I love this keyboard! It’s about time that they came out with a keyboard that’s more substantial than the folio type of keyboards. The iPad Is magnetized and attaches to the unit by “snapping” in place. It does not slip or move either! The “lid” that the iPad is attached to can fold down to make a closed mini computer (hard case) or opened and then moved into the optimum viewing position. It actually allows you to tilt the iPad into the perfect “work position” so you can eliminate glare and/or view easier. You also have a track pad that works very well and a little cursor that you can use to open your page or apps or anything else that you would normally use a track pad for. It is a really sophisticated unit that makes the iPad behave like a laptop. It is rather heavy though. You know you’ve got something in your hands when you are holding it. The other thing I like about this keyboard is that the 2nd gen pencil attaches to the outer edge of the iPad so it’s always handy and ready to use. It even charges itself while attached. The only thing I do not like about this keyboard is that they changed the charger so that you can no longer use the same one that the phone uses. It requires a USB C connector on each end to work. Apple did upgrade to a faster charger plug so while I’m not happy about the change in the cord connectors, you won’t be tethered for long. I went ahead and invested in a longer cord so I can Keep working while charging. A small investment but worth it! Do I recommend it?? You bet!!!

What can I say about the Apple Magic Keyboard… It’s everything. The quality is amazing and the feel is like no other. It’s exactly what you need if you use your iPad for more than checking emails or watching your favorite shows, although the Magic Keyboard will help you do that easier too. The backlit keyboard helps tremendously when in less than ideal lighting. It also helps to protect your iPad, but I wouldn’t recommend dropping it. It is very durable, but a bit heavy. Most keyboards add significant weight to your iPad. I’ve spilled tea on the keyboard and it still works, albeit a bit sticky- I don’t recommend that either. My Apple Care+ extended to my Magic Keyboard and my Apple Pencil so I was able to get a new keyboard for $29. I highly recommend the Magic Keyboard and the Apple Care+.

This keyboard is built from quality materials, which it should be for the price, but if your somebody who wants a macbook level typing and trackpad experience this is the product for you. The magnets are strong, you don't have to worry about your ipad falling out. Perfect resistance when opening and closing, wont slam shut. You can customize the keyboard light brightness scrolling speed ext.. in the iPads setting. Rigid enough to hold ipad by the keyboard nothing about this case is flimsy. Pass-threw charging port is incredibly useful. Will not interfere with apple pencil charging. The keyboard runs off the iPads battery no charging required. It has a very good balance to it wont fall over when using on your lap. Works perfectly with 2018 ipad pro 11”. If you purchase the case and the 2020 ipad together and get applecare plus the keyboard is covered under it. A+ product in my book

7 Reasons this keyboard is just right for iPad

I was hesitant to buy such an expensive keyboard, but it has turned out to be a great purchase. Here is why:
1. The keyboard is sturdy and never collapses when I am using it.
2. The keyboard has a touch pad! I have not used one for a long time and forgot how handy it can be.
3. The keyboard allows you to use the Touch Screen, The Apple Pencil, the Keypad, and the Touch Pad. It’s great to have choices.
4. The keyboard has low level backlighting of the keys.
5. The keyboard makes working from your lap, instead of a desk, very comfortable. The tilt screen adjusts to an easy angle.
6. The keyboard has an amazing, often overlooked feature….it has a USB-C charging port integrated into the hinge on the left side. See the photo. That is a pass-through charger, so when you are charging your iPad you are also charging the keyboard (back lighting),and the Pencil. I especially like the fact that the hinge charging port is on the left side since the iPad charging port is on the right. Again, its nice to have choices.
7. The keyboard is a perfect size for the iPad. It is not super lightweight but it is lightweight enough. If I need to worry about weight I can easily remove the iPad and use it without the keyboard.

Adds a little weight when carrying but for good reasons which makes the whole package feel solid. Makes me want to use my iPad more than my laptop and it sits well on the lap. We keep our iPad out on the coffee table like a newspaper/magazine. Great for those quick search lookups when bing watching. If you want to hold the ipad alone, you’ll need to pull it off but you will enjoy the iPad without bulk of a case and the way it was meant to be used. A great accessory if you type a lot.

Not overly bulky like some cases. It is super responsive. Just like using the MacBook. A bit pricey but if you’re an Apple nerd and an iPad Pro lover it’s fantastic. Oh and I love that it charges the iPad when plugged in. It’s a pass through charge meaning the case holds no charge. Very cool

This is the best keyboard for my iPad Pro and Air4. The overall feel as I type is a joy: keys feel soft with good key travel. It is also backlit so I can type at night in bed. Along with the keys, the trackpad is very responsive and smooth with good size for my fingers. The keyboard portion lies flat on my lap and has good area space so that it does not feel awkward.
The design is great. The hinge is very sturdy and maneuverable. I didn’t notice the charging port on the left side of the hinge. I can charge my iPad and connect a dock to the sub-c at the same time. The best feature is the magnets that attach to the back of the iPad. It is a simple pull and your iPad is in your hands. This is ideal because when there are times I don’t need the keyboard, I can simple I detach the iPad without struggle and later the-attach it without fear I am warping the edges of a case. Also, this keyboard is interchangeable with the iPad Pro 11” and the iPad Air 4 as they have similar dimensions.
Main drawback(s) is that it does add a lot weight to your iPad. With that weight comes bulk, but you know that it is built well and will protect your iPad. The hinge does not bend as much as I had hoped, but it’s ok. Finally, normal cost for the 11” model was originally $299! Thankfully I got it at $199 at the time because Best Buy was matching Amazon’s prices. Honestly, I don’t know if I would spend $300 for this, even though it has a lot of good features and build quality.
Overall, the best investment for my iPads.

Okay, so “almost” perfect. The only flaw to this design is if you have the Apple Pencil and want to write on the screen. It’s a bit difficult if you don’t have any protection for the iPad other than the case. I find I end up turning the tablet around, flipped back so the keyboard is up like the screen usually is (screen unlocked so that it rotates 180*). Would I let it stop me from buying it again?! Absolutely not. It’s expensive, but one of the happiest decisions I’ve ever made.

So I was super skeptical about spending so much on the Magic Keyboard for my Pro. I have the first keyboard and NEVER used it. I use the pencil EVERYDAY for writes notes in Notability for my job. I use it to read, and of course browse the internet. Purchasing the Magic Keyboard was a game changer for me!!! The built in trackpad is the biggest win!! It helps me to navigate much easier and when I’m looking to write comments on YouTube videos, or in Reddit I absolutely use the magic keyboard. I also love how study it is and holds the ipad. This actually has me watching more videos while relaxing on the sofa or bed because i can prop it on my legs and just watch videos without having to hold the ipad. I definitely did not think that I would expect to use the Magic Keyboard as much as I have. I will say that I found a GREAT deal on an open box version which is what prompted me to say ok I’ll bite!! I’m not sure I would have paid full price before using it, however now that I have used it. Hands Down I WOULD pay full price because it really does complete the iPad Pro!

For my needs, I prefer the Logitech - Combo Touch iPad Pro Keyboard Case over the Apple Magic Keyboard for iPad.
Pros:
+ Has an additional USB-C port
+ Easy to remove iPad from the keyboard
Cons:
- Expensive* compared to other keyboard cases
- Does not protect the sides of the iPad
- Tilt back range is limited
*I was able to get the Space Gray Magic Keyboard for iPad at a $100 discount making it the same price as the Logitech - Combo Touch iPad Pro Keyboard Case.
----------------------------------------------------------------
Picked up a couple of iPads to see which one I like and of course that means I needed to pick up a case. I got the Apple Magic Keyboard of iPad and this, the Logitech - Combo Touch iPad Pro Keyboard Case, to compare.
This case is sleek, looks nice, shows off your iPad's color, and the keyboard is easy to use. The case does offer an additional USB-C port on the side meaning you can charge your iPad using the case and plug something else directly into the iPad. This keyboard does fit nicely in your lap, even if your sitting so that your lap is at a downward incline. All that said, I just don't think it's the case for me.
I'm the kind of person that likes to take my iPad wherever I go so having a case that can protects all sides of my iPad is important to me and this case does not do that. While the keyboard is just as easy to use as the Logitech keyboard, the trackpad and hand rest are smaller. I find that the bottom of my hand is resting on the edge of the Magic Keyboard case as opposed to fully on the case with the Logitech one. While I can easily remove the iPad to place into my extension arm near my bed, I can't use the case to prop the iPad up on my steering wheel in my car (I have to move the seat back, set the iPad in my lap, and look down at it). The keyboard is matte and fingerprints are easy to see on it.
Overall, it's a nice keyboard case, it works great, looks sleek, and carries the Apple name. If you can get it at $200, all the more better. But for even that discounted price, I prefer what the Logitech - Combo Touch iPad Pro Keyboard Case has to offer.

I was extremely skeptical when purchasing this, i thought about it and decided why not? I can’t tell you how absolutely happy I am that I did it! I absolutely love the keyboard. Feels great, backlight is amazing (when working somewhere dark) the mouse pad tracks your movements very well! Honestly one of the best purchases I’ve made! Worth the money!
Cons-it does add significant weight to the iPad, the pencil is not secured inside of the case/keyboard. And because of the Mate finish it does scuff and stain easily.

I really like this keyboard, however I’m not sure it was worth $300. It’s sturdy and the magnetic plate built in to hold the tablet works great. It does have an extra port which is nice but outside of that I’m not sure all of this is worth the price tag. I honestly feel that I could have saved $200 and bought from Zagg or even bought one from Amazon for a 1/4 of the price if not cheaper. I am not discouraging anyone from buying this product, just stating that there are other options that would work just as well and within a better price range.
