Worked like a charm until USB-C took it's place. Never had an issue.

Needed this for a location that had Ethernet but not wifi. It works exactly like it should. The adapter greatly outperforms the network's Internet connection speed, so data rates through the adapter are never an issue.

I needed an adapter for buildings with no wifi that is not too bulky and works with the latest Macbook Pro laptops. It easily fits in my back pack and build well. Perfect for when I need to be hard wire connected to a network

Like most things Apple, it is kinda spendy. That said, it solved a problem of weak video conferencing behavior due to limits of wifi.

Nice little converter. Takes you from Thunderbolt jack on one end to Ethernet socket on the other. You are not likely to have thunderbolt cables laying around at this point in its evolution but nearly everybody has ethernet cables on hand.

Handy for older MacBook Air

This adapter is now somewhat harder to find, and very useful/handy for older Mac computers with Thunderbolt 1/2 ports, allowing a wired Ethernet connection in areas without WiFi.

No drivers to load, just set it up in network preferences and you have 1000 base T wired ethernet for your (older) MacBook Pro (the newest macbook pros need a different cable: usb C). It really is a lot faster than Wi-Fi!

Great buy - open box special

I bought this as an open box item. This is for the older MacBook Pro or Mac Pro (black cylinder style). This is my second open box purchase of this item. THIS IS NOT FOR THE CURRENT MACBOOK PRO. This doesn’t work with the USB-C thunderbolt 3. I am only saying this because of the frequency I am seeing this item returned as open box. This works well for a direct connection. I work in networking and need a direct Ethernet connection.
I wish Apple would add the traditional I/O ports. I stopped using my 16 inch MacBook Pro because I hate carrying multiple dongles. I switched back to my 2015.

I have an older Macbook Pro with two Thunderbolt 2 ports. I tried a USB ethernet adapter, only to find that I could get up to 100 Mbps speed. Out of the box, I was able to quickly configure this Thunderbolt adapter and get gigabit speed to my computer.
My only gripe is that I use two monitors and had them set up for DisplayPort to Thunderbolt. I had to switch one of the monitors from DisplayPort to HDMI to accommodate for this adapter; a bypass would've been nice (the USB version I bought from Moshi has this). Bottom line, though, is that this works and serves my needs.
For reliability, I assume it will last like most other Apple accessories, assuming I don't step on it or put undue stress on the cable. The cable seems sturdy, and the two connectors are made of the same harder plastic that I've had on other Apple products that hold up well to wear and tear.

This is a Fine Adapter, IF:

IF: you have the older generation Thunderbolt 1 or 2 connection on your computer or computer hub (both of which use the same connector as a Mini DisplayPort (MDP).
What this adapter is not good for is any new computer or hub that does not have the Mini Display Port female connection.
IF you need and adapter that connects to a USB-C / Thunderbolt 3 port, I recommend the Insignia USB-C to Gigabit Ethernet Adapter (NS-PUCGE8) for MacOS 10.6 and up.

"WiFi is fine when it's fine." Yogi Berra probably didn't say that, but he should have. Whether it's for streaming a movie from Netflix in a hotel or transferring files as you sit in a corner of the office, a wired ethernet connection can make all the difference in the world. Most obvious was the difference in streaming a soccer game. With WiFi, the action paused regularly to buffer. With a wired connection, the action proceeded smoothly. Since many of the Apple laptops have no dedicated ethernet port built in, you need an adapter to make a wired connection. The choices are "USB to Ethernet" or "Thunderbolt to Ethernet." Only the Thunderbolt adapter supports gigabit ethernet. Lots of companies make USB adapters, but most are poorly reviewed. Genuine Apple accessories cost more, but they work.

Insane speed benefits, plug and play, and apple support if you actually do have an issue...but it’s idiot proof so don’t worry. MacBook Air owners just add to cart already

Needed an Ethernet connection for my son's college and this is a great solution. A short adapter into the Thunderbolt port and plug the Ethernet cable into the adapter. Compact siz makes it great to carry around campus.

WOrks as advertised, the only problem I have is that I had to Purchase it in the first place along with the other accessaries just so I can connect it to my MacBook. Apple just needs to bring back those built in connections. I understand the Idea but when you are hooking up a million other parts then its kind of useless.

I've tried dozens of USB to ethernet adapters that needed drivers and extra tinkering to get working from other manufacturers. This adapter from Apple just works! No tinkering, no drivers, just plug and go!
