This is a prequel to Appleseed made by a new studio but with the same director (Shinji Aramaki) as the earlier titles. This is a full motion capture animation and it looks gorgeous. Deunan and Briareos come to life as never before. Since this is a prequel it starts at the end of the world war and has Briareos and Deunan trying to survive in a ruined New York City. Deunan dreams of Olympus but doesn't know if it's real. Briareos is just trying to get by. They work for another cyborg called Two Horns. This is a new character voiced by Wendel Calvert. In many ways Two Horns makes the movie. The plot is relatively simple but the action is gripping (there are echoes of Star Wars too). I found that I preferred this to the original Appleseed since the characters are better resolved and more sympathetic compared to Appleseed and the plot and dialogue are more coherent. I enjoyed this a lot and hope they are able to make the beta, gamma, etc versions too.

Loved the cgi graphics in this one. Good action film have in a Collection. Own it.

Appleseed Alpha is what one would expect from watching the other recent releases in the franchise. It has a lot of fast-paced, action-driven scenes with over-the-top choreography. It's great to see Briareos and Deunan back in action, doing what they do best. The animation style is pretty good, the dialogue is decent, and the themes are in line with previous releases. No real standout performances or scenes this time around though. Overall, a good watch worth checking out for Appleseed fans.

This is an alternative telling of the adventures of Deunan and Briarios. Sola Digital did the animation and other than a serious dip into the Uncanny Valley in many places, the graphics are first rate. If the viewer is unfamiliar with the previous Appleseed entities, then this will be a more enjoyable experience. For those who are fans of the original movies, this may be overly jarring as it has *nothing* to do with the original series other than the names of the characters.

Anime still has the problem of terrible dialogue. The dialogue is cliche, and often does not follow. Characters are given “cool non-sensical” things to say at inappropriate times - something a middle school kid would find awesome, but is completely unbearable. Couldn’t finish bc of it. Animation is good but story is very unoriginal even for anime.

The bluray disc worked fine in my ps3, didnt bother with the digital download. Its a one and done movie, nothing special in this attempt at a reboot of the appleseed series. I was frankly excited about it but was left stale with an ending leaving off just as the overall story did "no where" All it gets it points for CGI quality and fightscenes. However still final fantasy the spirits within has equivalent CGI quality.

Masamune Shirow also created Ghost in the Shell. While each manga has its differences from one another, there are enough similarities for me to be a fan of both. This also translates to the anime versions (whether it's a traditional anime "look" or CGI) even though others are writing the scripts. If you're a fan of GitS, you'll probably enjoy this.

This movie has awesome animation. The artwork is very realistic and keeps the true tradition of classic anime. The 3D elements in this movie, storyline and memorable characters will have you at the edge of your seat! S must have for the Appleseed collection.

If you are into the Final Fantasy series you will like Appleseed. The animation was top notch and full of great action. I have Ex Machina as well and if I have to compare the two I probably like Machina a bit more but this one is right up there.

Wow, the visuals in this movie was simply stunning. My eyes are just mesmerized by how pretty everything is. The action is fun, the story is...well, decent. Anyways, this is the type of film where you turn off your brain and enjoy the ride.

This was a pretty decent stand alone movie with beautiful animation. Although it seemed like it should have been longer. Characters we should be caring about are barely fleshed out. Definitely could have benefited as a series instead.

this was a blind buy for me ,but I had know idea how far this genre has evolved!...this one blew me away...I will now be looking more for this series...get this one while you can...you will be looking for more...awesome sound, visuals, story and great characters...thank you best buy for putting this one on sale, I had no idea!

I love Appleseed Ex-Machina and the Appleseed series. Ex-Machina has been out for awhile and it is a great movie. Applesee Alpha is a great origin story for those that like Appleseed. I hope they continue with the story with more movies. This has amazing graphics, solid soundtrack, and excellent story.

A good entry for people curious about what the Appleseed series is about. It's a prequel that gives us an idea about where the characters come from. The animation is good the action is fun but most of the comedy falls a little flat.

This movie was a prequel to something that came out like 10 years ago. This movie is beautiful. I thought I was watching an extended cut scene from Halo. Very easy to follow story. But did I say how beautiful this movie is?

This is great conclusion to the trilogy and on BD, it looks awesome. I have Ex Machina on BD and it's equally impressive but I'm still looking for an affordable BD of the first one, I'll find it. Anyway, this is exactly as expected as far as audio and video quality go, reference quality and a great film, grab it!

This is a prequel to the appleseed films and it delivers. Great characters, design and acting making the characters breath. A good story that shows character interactions and great action set pieces. Since this is a prequel it is not going to be as grand as the two other films but it is satisfying and well shot.

I was hoping this would be in the same vein as the others in the series but it was a little bit of a let down. Don't get me wrong it is good but they scaled back the action and tried to retell the back story.

This movie had some of the best graphics I have ever seen in a movie! The story was good but if you have seen the other movies this is a prequel but dose not really fallow the previous movies. Once you just let go of the details and enjoy the movie for the amazing beauty that it is you will not regret it!

Everybody knows that prequels are generally terrible. But while this film has its flaws, it's a really great addition to the Appleseed franchise. If you like AS and AS Ex Machina, you'll enjoy this one
