I’ve been creating my smart home for probably more than 4-5 years now and one my main problems is finding devices that play well with Apple Homekit. Most products either don’t work or are extremely pricey. As such, I tend to get items that are compatible with Alexa and hope that one day all devices will play together. When I saw that Aqara made a sensor that works with all of the major smart devices, I was excited to give it a try.
This sensor was pretty easy to setup and get running. I downloaded the Aqara app, followed the instructions and in less than ten minutes, I had it added to HomeKit and was testing out automations and setting. I have a smart bulb in my basement office, so I programmed the sensor to activate the light once movement was sensed. It worked perfectly without fail.
The light sensor was something that I didn’t really think I would use, but I can see the benefit of putting it in the rooms where my wife and kids tend to leave the lights on. I didn’t want to install smart switches in my entire home due to the cost, but using this I can at least try to explain to my wife why the electric bill is so high. Maybe then she will believe that the smarthome devices aren’t the major problem and that she and the kids are. Doubtful, but I’m optimistic.
I’ll probably end up putting this in my kids game room so that I can finally convince them that I know every time they go in that room to play video games. Realistically, I can already tell that, but it’s more fun with something like this. I’ll eventually come up with some other automations once I get it to it’s final destination, but for now, I’ll use it to have a little fun with my kids.

So first off before I begin this review let me be clear, this product is designed for people who truly want to dive into home automation or even commercial office automation. It takes a lot of planning and logic to figure out what use case you want to achieve with the FP2 Presence sensor. However, if you know what you want to do with it, it is arguably one of the most powerful tools for home automation. Installation is beyond easy with this device and you can put it wherever you really want. The guts of this product comes in on the backend of programming it. The accuracy of the FP2 is impressive. It can even count the amount of bodies in the area. Some of the tests I worked in were basic lighting zones and triggers, but also more complex situations to test how far this product could go based on IF/ELSE types of logic. If there are X people in the room - do this. If there are less than... you get the idea. Big time useful if you have the ability to integrate into your heating/cooling solution in your household. Do you need the air conditioner blaring full blast with 1 person? Nah. OK FP2 will facilitate that. Now 5 people are there.... let's crank it up. Honestly I haven't had all the time in the world to test how far this device can go but my automation seems truly endless at this rate!!

Well now I have to upgrade everything in my home. This is a good thing. This sensor is like a jack of all trades. I watched a ton of review videos to get a idea of what this thing does. They did not disappoint. First cool thing is the ability to set up zones in a room. The fact that I can now setup my game room with smart lights and have them tied into this sensor and have it turn on lights depending on where I am in my room... perfection.
No more worrying about someone sneaking up on me. My lights will let me know when someone approaches. The HomeKit integration and ability to work with Google assistant and Alexa are another great thing.
Make sure you do the firmware update after you get it setup on your network.
This would make a great starting point to automating someone's home.
Read all the instructions as usual and do a bit of research before you install and I think anyone would appreciate having this in your home. The way it can detect if someone has fallen is another plus. You have to mount it on the ceiling for this to work. It's a good idea if you have older parents that you are concerned with.
I would definitely recommend buying one of these.

This is a great device if you are setting up a smart home. It works great when using homekit and it also works with Alexa, Google Home and Home Assistant. The initial setup with the app was easy. Be sure to update the firmware to the latest version. This is a hardwired device and not battery powered, so that will limit how and where you mount it. And after a few trials with the position of the sensor, and adjustment of the sensitivity, I was able to set up some automation with the app to turn on the lights in the living room when someone entered it and then turn them off after everyone left. You can even set up an automation for different areas of the same room to do different things. Be sure to take some time to set the sensor up properly or you may not be happy with it, the sensor is picky on its positioning in the room. This is not a simple plug it in and it works device. Aqara is constantly adding new features to this sensor like Sleep Monitoring Mode, People Counting and more to come. This is a great powerful device that will do more than what most people will need, but it is worth learning what it can do.

There is so much this device can do! First, this device covers a 430sq ft room on its own. Plenary of space in my upstairs to cover an open footprint of living and dining room. This covers my patio entry as well and entry stairs from main doorway. The device has precision movement detection and can detect up to five people in the room. It becomes even more powerful when using more than one sensor. I bought an additional sensor for downstairs. The power of this device to detect where people are in the house and through the third party integrations be able to do things like adjust heating/cooling as well as lighting automatically is powerful. One tool I am particularly interested in is the fall detection feature. My father in law is having mobility issues and I plan to
Put one in his house to be able to track if there is a fall. Finally, installation of this device is very easy and charging is easy with a usb style connection. I have not had the device long enough to fully test battery but have been happy this far.

I had never used or felt the need for a presence sensor, but since this was part of the package I installed it and w/ no fault at all to Aqara, I have both Apple Home Pod and we also use Amazon Alexa, because my wife likes one and I like the other. My point being, I didn’t read the fine print on this sensor and when I tried to get this setup it took what felt like FOREVER! I just could not get it to pair or work w/ anything Apple. I deleted the App, re-installed it and no matter what I tried I couldn’t get it to “pair”. I finally realized that it I had turned off my wi-fi on my phone and turned it back on and still no luck. I was lost as to what to do, and I realized I had not updated my iPhone or iPad to the latest version of IOS and it was the problem, so if you are having problems check that as well.
I wanted to use this mainly for fall protection and the problem is you must mount to the ceiling for that to be applicable and I had not way to mount it to the ceiling. It does detect and alert right away when it senses movement/presence and I plan on expanding this by purchasing several more to put in our garage and my workshop, I frequently leave the doors to both open when I’m doing yard work or in the workshop and this will allow me the peace of mind of when/if someone entered.
It was simple to pair w/ the Apple Home Kit as it worked right out of the box which is sometimes a problem w/ other devices. I really am enjoying this Presence Sensor and would recommend it.

The Aqara FP2 presence sensor is an amazing leap forward in detection for home automation.
Depending on where you mount it, it can detection presence (not just movement) in more than 400 square feet. It can detect multiple people (up to five) in a zone, and separates the zone into cells - which are mapped to your room. There is also a built in light sensor that can detect light levels, which can then be used in automations.
I’ve been using it with Apple Home, but it also works with other systems (including Home Assistant, which is great).
I have two scenarios where this sensor has excelled. A large open room with a living area on one side and a dining area on the other. The areas have their own lights, which are Hue fixtures and bulbs. At night, if you walk into the area, each room will turn on (to a low light level) but only if the presence is detected in that room. This allows you to walk through the area, and have lighting follow, it is amazing.
The other automation it to turn on a light in the bedroom, but only if both people are not in bed. This is unreal. The multi person detection, and not requiring movement is amazing.
Overall, this is an easy product to recommend. It is a good value and feels like the future of home automation.

I’ve been hearing about the Aqara FP2 for a while now and mostly good things, that’s why I was surprised just how underwhelmed I was with this presence sensor. Unlike normal motion sensors that just detect movement, this sensor using mm waves to detect precise positions of people moving and even standing still. So you can quickly see how this could be used for lots of applications for turning devices off and on depending on your very precise location.
In the box you really just get the sensor, a charging cable (no brick) and two mounting plates. Right off the bat I think this is a big misstep by not including an AC adapter for something that has to be plugged in 24/7.
Set up is pretty straightforward, the Aqara app walks you through positioning and then walking around the room to set the room boundaries. It’s pretty easy and mine mapped the room really quickly.
In use is where things start to break down. The Aqara app itself is one of the worst smartphone apps I’ve used. Not only is it akward to use with strange phrasing choices that show this product was built by non Americans, there is almost no 3rd party integration at all. So you are stuck with Aqara products which are pretty limited. It does integrate with Google Home and HomeKit, but I could not figure out how to you the super precise location tracking in Google Home. Instead you just get a very generic “motion detected” device. Because of this I wasn’t ever able to actually make any real use from this thing and hence was pretty disappointed.
Overall I can’t see a whole ton of use here. Maybe if you are super advanced in automations you could get something running. But I couldn’t.

Thank you for taking the time to share your honest feedback on the Aqara FP2 Presence Sensor. We appreciate your detailed review and are sorry to hear that the product did not meet your expectations.
For the set up:
1 Device is installed on the 1.4-1.8 meters high in a regular home setting (for offices and big spaces, a height of 2+ meters is acceptable. In case of higher installation, point the sensor slightly downwards) 2. Make sure that the room has a clear “edge” zone, which covers not only the walls, but also the area around the walls that should be excluded 3. Make sure the interference sources are marked using “more” zone option 4. Try entering and exiting the room, after making sure that no one is in the room, use the "AI learning function” function to guide the sensor 5. If zone settings are too slow or buggy, try setting the zones up using an Android devices. After the zones are set up, the automations will become local, and the map display lags won’t affect the automation 6. If it doesn’t solve the detection accuracy problem, try relocating the sensor and repeat the process. For example, if the 120-degree angle is not enough, try installing the device in the corner
App Usability and Integration: We apologize for the difficulties you faced with the Aqara app. We are aware that the app's usability and phrasing could be improved, especially for our English-speaking users. Our development team is actively working on these improvements to ensure a better user experience.
Thank you again for your constructive review. We hope to have the opportunity to regain your trust and provide you with a product that meets your expectations in the future.

Ok so I received my Aqara Presence Sensor FP2 a few days ago and just started testing it out. It’s a device that I’m not all that familiar with, however, from what I read about this device, it senses movement in different zones or areas of your home depending on where you install it. Ok so when you open the small box, you’re greeted with the small circular Presence Sensor FP2, a USB-C to USB-A power cable, mounting hardware and stickers, and a user manual booklet. To get started you have to download the Aqara Home app from the App Store for iOS or Google Play Store for Android. Create and sign into your account. Once signed in, press the + sign in the top corner to a new accessory. Once added, the app will guide you through the rest of the setup process. This is where I ran into issues. The app worked but seemed a bit wonky at times. I had to press the rest button on the bottom of the device several times. Next the app allowed me to select which type of install I wanted: Zone Detection, which can detect the presence of up to 5 people, or Fall Detection which is supposed to detect a single person falling. I tried to initially set it up for Zone Detection but the instructions are very confusing in a lot of the wording. The instructions did not have a flow to them. So I reset and went through the process again for Fall Detection. Which seemed a lot easier. But in looking at the instructions and some video footage online the Sensor is installed on the ceiling which is fine but installing on the ceiling is would require a longer power cord than what’s included in the box. I’m torn with the product because I want to love it but its a very confusing and complex product to me, that with the way the current set of instructions are, most people may have trouble even trying to figure out what to do. Hopefully maybe a more updated and clear and concise set of instructions can be made available as well as some updates to the software so it's not as confusing will make this product better. It has potential.

Got this device and honestly didn't know what to do with it. My first thought was light control but most my lights are already smart and voice controlled. I did set it up in my utility room and it worked well in detecting presence and turning on the light and then turning it off. But I thought it was a bit slower than the motion switch hard wired in the wall.
I ended up setting it up and doing a Thermostat adjustment mechanism. We have a bonus room that is rarely used. But the kids play up there periodically.
It worked well, would adjust the temperature up to a good temp then would set it back down. I also was able to adjust the lights to turn off as well.
Overall setup was easy and direct. Did take a minute to link the auth to the thermostat and setup the IFTT configuration. It works well and easy to set in a good spot. Ther are a couple of ways to mount, via screw or back plate and recharge via usb. I do with there was a wall wart to provide charge so you will have to provide your own.

This is an interesting device. It is not your typical motion sensor in that its 'radar'. The box included a simple device with cords, stick on pads, and a booklet. This is not battery operated and you will need a USB power source. I might add the booklet was thick with super fine writing- it was not easy to read nor understand. Pair involves QR codes which was easy enough, but after 7 attempts I was worn out. I let it sit awhile, turned everything off, including phone and came back about an hour later. After three more frustrating attempts, it finally paired. Now the task of setting up began. Mounting seemed simple enough as the device has a unique built-in adjustable bracket. Figuring out the set up, zones and the like is a continuing effort. I did get as far as seeing how the radar detects and show motion, and it is fairly accurate and can track multiple people in a room and display their location in that room. Very interesting idea and operation. There is even ways to configure the display room with furniture and layout. I have been trying but not there yet to figure that out. This works for one room and does not pick up unusual shaped areas, or to the side of the detector. All in all, I can find many interesting uses for this device once I figure it out completely. Nice idea, although it will take awhile to get the kinks and set up going. For the moment I can see real time motion in my living room from end to end.

I was super excited to get this because I thought it was a motion sensor, like the ones for the home alarm. Once I got it and open the box and read through all the information, I really got excited! I was thinking about all the different lights that I could control in my house by just entering rooms. The way that my house is laid out, I can cover about three spaces. So I wanted to hurry up and get started as soon as possible, and the first thing I needed to do was download the app. Which was a pretty easy process, but it was a little difficult for me to learn how to program the zones, and getting the best placement of the device on my wall. I'm glad that they didn't go the battery route, because it would make it more difficult in a long run constantly changing the batteries out, but sometimes with the outlets in the area it's too far away to place your device there and get the best reading of the rooms. I did however managed to get the lights to work in certain rooms and come on at certain times, but for me it's still a working progress and a little more difficult than it should be. I'm sure since this is a new product, everything will be figured out and improved.

This is the second of the set of Aqara products that I've obtained, and unfortunately the story does not improve here. I will say this is the first product of this type I've ever owned, being a motion sensor with some interesting capabilities (fall alerting), and while the concept is neat, the implementation needs work.
To start, the packaging is straightforward, just the sensor in a box, it is plugged in via a USB cable that's included (though I would argue that maybe an outlet version would be a good addition, or maybe one that screws into a light bulb socket).
Setting it up is not great, the Aqara app is basically the same awful version of another smart home app (Tuya) that I have on my phone, just focused on Aqara instead, it's difficult to get rolling. Yes, the app sees the device, but pairing it to your WIFI system is a chore. Allow me to make a suggestion, if your system has 2.4 and 5GHz options, either turn off the 5GHz band while you set this up, or force your phone onto the 2.4GHz spectrum to get the device to see it, unfortunately if your phone is connected to 5GHz, it prevents the device from recognizing the 2.4GHz spectrum of your WIFI despite supporting it.
Once you manage to get it paired with the app, there's a few steps for setup including the aforementioned fall sensor. It's "ok", seems to do the job, although there's a good deal of false positives, hopefully with some firmware updates this will improve, but I do not have high hopes.
It might be cool to use this for some IFTTT type functionality for entering or leaving a room or your home, but beyond that, it isn't a great device.
I'm not aware of other similar devices on the market but if they exist, I have to hope they are better than this, as it seems somewhat limited in it's capability and usefulness.

Thank you for sharing your detailed feedback on the Aqara FP2. We sincerely apologize for the issues you've encountered and appreciate your candid review.
Packaging and Power Options: We understand your preference for additional power options, such as an outlet version or a light bulb socket adapter. Your suggestions are valuable and will be considered for future product enhancements to provide more versatility and convenience for our users.
Setup Experience: We regret that you found the setup process challenging. Since the Aqara FP2 only support connecting 2.4Ghz, so it is recommended to turn off 5Ghz.
App Functionality and Performance: We apologize for the difficulties you faced with the Aqara app. Our development team is committed to improving the app’s performance and usability. Your feedback on the fall sensor’s accuracy and the occurrence of false positives is noted. Please try to use the AI learning function in the Aqara Home app to improve the accuracy, and change the sensitivity for the FP2 when set up the configuration. It is very important to set up the edge and interference for the Aqara F2P2 in your Aqara Home app
Device Capabilities and Usefulness:
It's unfortunate that the motion sensor did not meet your expectations. While the fall alerting feature and potential IFTTT integrations are innovative, we understand that false positives can be frustrating. We aim to improve the accuracy and expand the capabilities of our devices to better serve your needs.

I have never heard of this brand, until I visited a Best Buy and found a bundle of home automation products that I needed, bundled and offered at a great price
Not being new to home automation (thermostats, lights), I was not partially fond of the idea of another app, but since this one integrates with Apple Home, it was a easy decision
Diving into the unboxing, the packaging was adequate to protect the product, and way more attractive than what you will find in brand that is not top of mind
Their app was simple, intuitive and worked seamlessly across the different products that I bought. Reviews on the app store shows potential issues that may have occurred over a year ago, but they obviously fixed all that with the latest release
So what does this product do?
It is a simple "hockey puck" (but much smaller) that you can affix anywhere to add motion control to a home automation that you define. In my case, I have smart lighting that turns on when I enter a room, and off after a specified amount of time
Since this integrates with Apple Home, you can rely on a single app to view across products

The Aqara Presence Sensor uses millimeter wave radar to detect the presence of people in the area and up to 5 individuals simultaneously. This is a product that I was looking forward to testing out for my senior parents because not only does it sense people but also senses when someone takes a fall, but unfortunately left me utterly disappointed.
Unboxing and Setup:
Included in the package you will find the sensor, USB-C power cable, 2 mounting plates, user manual and screws. The setup process was a challenge. Just and FYI, if you are using a mesh Wi-Fi system, you will have to turn off the 5ghz signal for this device to be able to connect which is very inconvenient. Even with that turned off, it still took me a few tries to get this thing connected. Once connected, the Aqara app allows you to set up an area of monitoring, which was another challenge. The device can monitor an area of about 430 sq ft, which you divide into different zones.
• Aqara App: The app alone needs a lot of work. The app is crucial to setting up and managing the sensor, but it has issues. I have had the application freeze on me multiple times during the initial sensor setup and while setting up the zones.
• Fall Detection: The reason I was looking forward to testing out the product turned out to be more of a nuisance than anything. False alarm seem to be pretty common for everyday activities like bending over or even sitting down. I was getting fall alerts at work for something that did not happen causing unnecessary anxiety. Due to this, I ended up disconnecting the sensor.
Overall, this product boasts impressive technology that can offer someone peace of mind, but its not there yet. As it stands now, I would not recommend this product.
No, I would not recommend this to a friend
