This is a good video doorbell that was simple to install. I installed the Aqara app on my phone and then followed the simple directions that came with the doorbell. As always, check for any firmware updates and install them. The doorbell is larger than most of its competition because of the 6 AA batteries that it takes. It has an optional hard wired power supply. When it is hard wired, it offers continuous recording to a micro SD card. It is compatible with Apple Home, Amazon Alexa, Google Home, and its own smart home ecosystem which supports Matter. It has lots of options such as custom doorbell tones, and different voices when you are talking through it. This doorbell has facial recognition and can trigger home automation routines when it recognizes the person walking up to it. It has an included hub/chime box that requires it to be plugged in. You can even connect it to a smart speaker. The point of view from the camera isn't the greatest and I had to mount the doorbell a little bit higher than I would have liked, but it all works as advertised. It would be nice if Aqara offered this in a hardwired only version, then it would be a lot smaller, but overall, this is a great doorbell that does a lot for the money.

I’ve been creating my smart home for probably more than 4-5 years now and one my main problems is finding devices that play well with Apple Homekit. Most products either don’t work or are extremely pricey. As such, I tend to get items that are compatible with Alexa and hope that one day all devices will play together.
I have a video doorbell on the front door already, so I wanted something for my back patio. Since the door isn’t wired for a doorbell, I knew I had to go wireless and still wanted something that could connect to HomeKit and Alexa. I saw the specs on this one and thought it fit the bill and has a ton of features that I would assume other brands would charge me for. This includes 7 days of free cloud storage and can accept up to a 512gb microSD card for even more storage. The SD card is stored in the speaker which makes it inaccessible to someone who might want to steal the doorbell. Facial recognition for up to 30 people with custom automations that can be enabled for each family member or for unknown faces. You can program ringtones and change the voice heard by others when the doorbell is pressed. All great features.
This doorbell is pretty well built and a good nice. Not too big and not too small. Everything you need to install this comes in the box, including batteries for a non-wired setup. The system only works on the 2.4ghz network, so that is kind of a bummer, but it will do. All in all, I really like the style of this doorbell camera and feature set. I would like to see a white option, but that is just personal preference. I don’t think you can go wrong with this doorbell.

I got the Aqara Smart Video DoorBell along with an Aqara Presence Sensor, the Aqara hub, and the Aqara Smart Lock U100 Kit, and the and am quite happy with it so far, especially as it compares to the Ring 2 that this doorbell replaces.
Installation was pretty easy. I downloaded the Aqara app and then watched a YouTube video showing the step-by-step installation which was very easy to follow. I did end up having to buy a masonry drill bit because the holes for this doorbell don't match the Ring 2, which would have been nice.
What really sets the Aqara doorbell apart from the Ring 2 is the AI built into it. You can register faces and then do logic based on who is at your door. Custom ringtones, or messages, or even smart home actions can be performed, which is really neat. What I currently have set up is that if someone rings the bell that isn't me, it automatically locks the front door if it's not already locked. The other nice features include a micro SD card (up to 512gb) for storing video data, and you get a rolling 7 days free cloud storage. If you want longer cloud storage, you can buy a yearly plan.
I give the Aqara Smart Video Doorbell my recommendation based on the superior features, as well as the cost savings over my prior Ring doorbell, which just announced a price hike when my service would have renewed next year. This device will literally pay me back compared to what I would have been paying to Amazon. Add to that the smart home integration, and you simply can't go wrong with this product.

VIDEO DOORBELL

The Aqara G4 Smart Video Doorbell had potential, drawn by its impressive feature list, local storage, video call and chime,it seemed like a great deal. But this doorbell is more trouble than it's worth. Just trying to install this left me frustrated. So, let’s go over some of the features and the issues that I encountered with the Aqara G4 Smart Video Doorbell.
Unboxing and Setup:
In the box you will find almost everything that you need to get this doorbell up and running, the only thing missing is the MicroSD card for storage. I am always a fan of manufacturers that include everything needed from the beginning, so you don’t have to spend extra money to fully utilize the product. Included in the box are the following items:
• Smart Video Doorbell G4
• Wedge Bracket
• Screwdriver
• AA Batteries
• Chime
• USB-C to USB-A Cable
• Wall Screws & Anchors
• User Manual
• Will need to download Aqara Home App
You will need to download the Aqara Home application and create an account, which is easy enough. Then you will have to find the product you are trying to connect and start the process. Now this is where I started to run into issues. Trying to connect this doorbell to my Mesh WIFI was more trouble than this product is worth. I tried multiple times to get this device to connect and for some reason it was not having it, until I manually turned off the 5ghz band on my mesh network and tried again and it finally decided to connect to the network (I have installed multiple smart home products without turning 5ghz off). The doorbell can be used either hardwire or with 6 AA batteries provided. I am not a fan of replacing batteries, so I ended up hardwiring mine.
The doorbell offers 1080p resolution, with 162-degree FOV, compatibility with HomeKit, Google and Alexa, Local Storage up to 512 GB MicroSD, Face Recognition, Tamper alarm and Cloud Storage of up to 7 days.
• Aqara App: I don’t even know where to begin with this one. The Aqara app is just an utter mess. Connection drops, delayed notifications, and unresponsive controls are daily occurrences. I have also received false motion detection notifications, and how it only detects my MicroSD card when it feels like it.
• Video Quality and FOV: This doorbell offers 1080p resolution, which is decent, but it seems to be lacking behind the competition that is now offering up to 2K resolution video for comparable price. As I had mentioned earlier the video quality is not bad, but comparing the quality to my current video doorbell that offers 2K resolution, the video seems a bit grainy at times and zooming into the video makes it even worse.
• Facial Recognition seems to work well but the tamper alarm is a hit or miss.
• Smart Home Ecosystem: Since I am an Android user, I was able to connect the doorbell to my Google Home Ecosystem without any issues. Unfortunately, I was not able to test out the HomeKit features as they are exclusive to apple.
Overall, While the Aqara G4 has its share of features, they're overshadowed by its numerous issues. The unreliable app, inaccurate motion detection, and initial connection make it frustrating and ultimately ineffective security option. This review reflects my personal experience and because of that I would not recommend this product as it stands.

Hello dear customer, sorry for the late reply to your feedback, we just recently got access to reply for low ratings. First of all, sorry to causing you all the trouble. Regarding your concerns, #1. please note, we do not include SD card for any of our cameras which is also shown on What's in the box, both on packaging and user manual. #2. Sorry for your trouble to connect the device, most Smart home devices require 2.4GHz Wifi, it is also mentioned in user manual page 11, under section "Quick connection of the device" where it states "The chime repeater only supports 2.4GHz band, does not support 5GHz band". #3 The Aqara APP indeed have a lot of room to grow, and we are trying to make it better and better, please note we have upgraded our APP on a monthly basis, please keep it updated for better user experience. If you could contact us via our official customer service email or in the APP, we are glad to provide more support, with your detailed information such as video/pictures for us to better assist you. #4. This doorbell offers 1080P resolution instead of 2K, the main feature is regarding it's AI ability and compatibility with major players like Apple, Google, Alexa, IFTTT and more. It is also one of the few camera that works with Apple homekit Secure video. Compairing products have many dimentions, looking at only one sepcificaiton is a bit lack of objectivity. #5. The tamper alarm issue may ocurr by high temperature causing by direct sunshine to the camera lens. #6. Aqara products are compatible with most major players like Apple, Google, Alexa, IFTTT and more, which provide both Android/IOS user full of choices.
Aqara is committed to make smart products for the whole house experience, and will keep continue on this path, we will keep working on improve user experience of our products and make it better and better. Thank you for your precious opinion.

The greatest doorbell I ever had!

This is the best doorbell I ever had in my life and I'm not even exaggerating! When I first got this doorbell I was pretty upset because I thought that it couldn't be hardwired, but after a little more reading I found out that wasn't the case. I would've hated the fact that I would have to constantly change the batteries out when they died. What I don't like about the chime itself, is that it can't be hardwired, and you can't use the chime that's there with your original doorbell either. But the best thing about these doorbell for me at least, is the fact that you can record 24 hours a day without having to pay a monthly fee! That is pretty much unheard of in today's market! I also really love the facial recognition and how you can program certain tunes to the face of the people coming to your door that you know! Another great part about this doorbell, is how much of a wide frame it has when you look out and can see more space than the average doorbell! One thing that I hope that they would improve, is update to maybe 2K video, because you really can't see it that good at night. I'm still learning a lot of stuff, even after all of that there's more! This is definitely a must have!

I have to be honest I had never used any products from Aqara before so I didn’t know what to expect when I received this G$ Smart Video Doorbell, but I was impressed as soon as I opened it. It is a bigger than my older doorbell camera and I had to make a few modifications to get it installed (cut some of the vinyl siding) but other than that the installation was very straightforward and quick. I did opt to hardwire this doorbell because of that fact that I don’t plan on removing it any time soon since I had to make the cut into our vinyl.
As far as performance this camera is head and shoulders better than the brand/model that I removed which was only a few months old. It provide far better connection and video’s. The App was simple to install and connect w/ the doorbell as well. I did have somewhat of an issue pairing this camera with our home system (Alexa). It simply would not recognize the device, so I deleted the App and tried again and then it allowed me to download and pair with our Alexa system. The included chime is very loud and noticeable, but small enough that it’s out of the way. I really like this Smart Video Doorbell and would recommend it.

Review for
Aqara G4 Smart Video Doorbell - Black
I got the Aqara Smart Video Doorbell together with the Aqara Smart Lock and I’m very pleased with how well they work together. It’s easy to unlock the door after verifying the identity of someone at the door.
The system can work with Google Home, Alexa, or my preference, Apple HomeKit. Although Aqara devices don’t need an additional subscription service to store video from the camera, I do have an iCloud account. The camera saves up to seven days of video data to my iCloud account.
This video doorbell can be used with batteries, but I used my existing doorbell wiring to make a permanently powered connection. Installing the doorbell took only a few minutes and connecting it to my Apple HomeKit took even less.
The video image itself is sharp and clear, at 1080p and the audio from your voice can be disguised using one of four presets. “Uncle” and “Robot” are cool, but I’m not sure I would ever use “Clown.” :)
The indoor speaker/repeater is plenty loud to alert you and can also be used to identify other problems like glass breakage and water leaks, when properly configured with other Smart Home devices.

I have never heard of this brand, until I visited a Best Buy and found a bundle of home automation products that I needed, bundled and offered at a great price
Not being new to home automation (thermostats, lights), I was not partially fond of the idea of another app, but since this one integrates with Apple Home, it was a easy decision
Diving into the unboxing, the packaging was adequate to protect the product, and way more attractive than what you will find in brand that is not top of mind
Their app was simple, intuitive and worked seamlessly across the different products that I bought. Reviews on the app store shows potential issues that may have occurred over a year ago, but they obviously fixed all that with the latest release
So what does this product do?
Like other competitors, this is a video doorbell that is linked to your phone and apps, so that you can see who is at the door before you open. It also includes an indoor chime, and 7 days of cloud storage.
Since this integrates with Apple Home, you can rely on a single app to view across products

Way Better Options Available

I really wanted to like this doorbell, especially since I love the Aqara lock, but this doorbell turned out to be one of my most disappointing smart home devices I've tried in a long time. There really was very little to actually like about this doorbell, especially when there are so many other great options out there.
In the box: my first frustration started right out of the box. You get the doorbell, a chime, a cable to power the chime, and AA batteries to power the doorbell. One of my biggest product pet peeves is when something (like the chime) is required to be plugged in all the time but an AC power brick isn't included. I get the trend to reduce waste by not including them when a device only needs it to charge, but on something like this where the brick will be used in perpetuity, there really isn't an excuse not to include one.
Setup: My next disappointment was setup. There are no install instructions in the box. Which most of the time is ok, because other smart home companies usually walk you through install in the app while setting up the device. That isn't the case here. When adding the device to the Aqara app, the only setup it to add the chime to the app/homekit, that's it. Because of this I actually didn't even realize that the doorbell had contentions to hardwire the doorbell in place rather than using the included batteries.
This was my next disappointment with setup, the batteries. Aqara claims 4 months of life from the AAs, but given that this doorbell is outside 24 hours a day and exposed to the elements, I don't see how you wouldn't end up with alkaline batteries leaking at some point in the products life.
The Aqara app: The Aqara app itself is also just a giant mess. It is very obvious that the team that designed this app is not familiar with American conversation style. There are words and phrases in this app that I've never seen in any smart home app, or app in general for that matter. It does not make for a satisfying experience. The app features all the normal automation and scene features from other smart home apps, but given home limited the Aqara ecosystem is and virtually no 3rd party support in the app, I don't see home much of this is useful.
Google Home/Homekit: I tested both of these and I could never get the doorbell to connect to Google Home, the Google Home app thought the doorbell was offline and would never connect, so no go there. Homekit did work as intended. It connected to the home during my setup with the Aqara app and streamed local video great. This doorbell does support Apple Secure video which is cool
Overall there really is very little to like about this doorbell, there many other better option that you should look into before this one.

The Aqara G4 is a unique value set. If you're an apartment dweller and can't hardwire, you already are facing a limited set of video doorbell products. If you want one that also supports HomeKit Secure Video, good luck with that! Fortunately, HomeKit Secure Video really enhances this doorbell's features. For starters, I'm able to view video on my Apple TV and also use my HomePod as a chime.
It should be noted, that this G4 comes with a chime that's plenty loud (and has a microSD slot), but the design is awkward as it has to be wired with a USB-C cable but also needs to be near the video doorbell since it's also a WiFi repeater. The chime also has a 95db siren that can be activated by motion or when someone attempts to tamper with the doorbell.
With HomeKit Secure Video and an iCloud+ subscription (starting at $0.99/mo. for 50GB), you get unlimited motion videos and the added benefit of adding motion zones along with people, package and vehicle recognition. You can also setup geofencing (where the video doorbell does not record when you are at home) and enable facial recognition using your Photos library, if desired.
Note, that if you're running this video doorbell on batteries, it requires 6 AA's. This leads me to have all sorts of questions like how will these hold up (longterm) with the plastic housing? I live in TX so we get extreme heat during the summers and we're starting to see more extreme cold weather as well. The IPX3 rating also does not instill a lot of confidence. Also, how often will I have to replace these AA batteries? Worth noting as well, when running on batteries, there is a delay due to power-saving. In many cases you'll miss someone approaching your door, but you'll get the part where they're practically at your door.
Other considerations: (1) the field of view is more horizontal than vertical. Many video doorbells have moved away from this as it makes it hard to see below where packages are. Be mindful of this when considering where/how you're mounting this. (2) It also lacks HDR, which means it doesn't do the best job of capturing critical facial details when there's inadequate light. (3) It records for 6 seconds at a time by default, but this can be changed to 12 seconds. Both seem really too short. 30 seconds to 90 seconds would be more ideal.
TLDR: A compelling HomeKit Secure Video option for apartment dwellers. If you're in the HomeKit ecosystem and want something battery-powered, it's almost a no-brainer for the amount of features you're getting.

Thank you for sharing your detailed and insightful feedback on the Aqara G4 Smart Video Doorbell. We appreciate your thorough review and are glad to hear that you find value in many of its features, particularly the HomeKit Secure Video integration.
HomeKit Integration: We are pleased to know that HomeKit Secure Video enhances your experience with the Aqara G4, allowing you to view video on your Apple TV and use your HomePod as a chime. This integration is designed to provide a seamless and enriched smart home experience for our users.
Chime Design and Functionality: Your feedback on the chime design is noted. We understand that the requirement to be wired with a USB-C cable and its need to be near the video doorbell due to its role as a WiFi repeater can be inconvenient. We are constantly seeking ways to improve our product designs to enhance user convenience. The 95db siren feature is intended to add an extra layer of security, and we're glad you found it noteworthy.
Battery Usage and Durability: Your concerns about the use of AA batteries, especially in extreme weather conditions, are valid. We acknowledge that the IPX3 rating may not provide complete peace of mind in harsh environments. We are actively working on improving battery efficiency and durability to ensure reliable performance in various climates. We would recommend you use the external power supply if possible
Field of View and Recording Duration: We appreciate your comments on the horizontal field of view and the recording duration. We understand that a more vertical field of view and longer recording times would be beneficial for capturing comprehensive footage. Enhancing these features is a priority for our future product updates.
Thank you once again for your constructive feedback. We hope to continue enhancing our products to better meet your expectations and provide you with an even better experience in the future.

After reading the promos on this item, it seems very feature loaded, requires no subscription to store recordings, and is hard wired or battery. It seemed to check all my 'want' list items. Out of the box, the door bell itself seemed rather bland, and somewhat cheap due to its dull appearance. Basically, two big circles, one the camera and detection sensors, and the other the door bell button. It is all one color and rectangular. Setting up was easy, but I was surprised to see it used 2 regular AA batteries, which is supposed to last 4 months- we shall see. Between the extreme Texas heat and the cold, I doubt the battery life. However, my intention was to hard wire, so I wasn't concerned. I also found out that the door bell detections works much quicker with ac power than with batteries. I did not like the short video clip length which seemed pointless to be so short. Being on wired power it seemed a bit better but still a very short recording session. I would say, too short for usefulness. Picture quality was acceptable, but i've seen many better. I did not like how faces were very fuzzy and even at close distances, very difficult to make out. Even myself testing the device produced results which made it difficult to see it was me, except I knew it was me !! I added an SD card, it takes up to 512gb so that is a lot of recording. I did like it can do continuous recording which I find very useful on other camera in my house. I noticed that when pressing the door bell, there was a considerable delay before my phone was notified. I would say this was one of the worse drawbacks! I will also add that the aspect view was not the best as it seemed to only show a very limited front area.
All in all, this item is loaded with good features but then lacking in a few very important ones, and to me, somewhat quirky. The quality of face video, and the short recording times, are major negatives for me.

Thank you for taking the time to share your comprehensive feedback on the Aqara G4 Smart Video Doorbell. We appreciate your insights and are committed to addressing your concerns to improve our product and user experience.
Design and Build Quality: We understand that the doorbell's appearance might not be as appealing as expected. Your feedback on the design being bland and somewhat cheap-looking is noted, and we will consider this as we work on future iterations to ensure the product looks as premium as it performs.
Battery Life and Power Options: We appreciate your concern about the AA batteries and their longevity in extreme weather conditions. While we strive to provide an efficient power solution, we recommend hardwiring the device for optimal performance, especially in areas with extreme temperatures. Your observation about the doorbell working faster with AC power is accurate and hardwiring indeed offers better reliability.
Video Clip Length and Quality: We apologize for the short video clip lengths and the less-than-ideal picture quality. Your feedback about the fuzziness of faces, even at close distances, is important to us. We are continuously working on firmware updates to improve video clarity and recording duration to ensure better performance and user satisfaction.
Notification Delays and Aspect View: The delay in receiving notifications on your phone and the limited aspect view are concerns we take seriously. We aim to minimize such delays and expand the viewing angle to provide a more comprehensive view of the monitored area. Our team is investigating these issues to enhance the responsiveness and field of view in future updates.
Continuous Recording and Storage: We are glad you find the continuous recording feature and the option to add up to a 512GB SD card useful. These features are designed to give users more control over their recordings and data storage without needing a subscription.
Thank you once again for your constructive feedback. We hope to address these issues and provide a better experience with our products in the future.
