Customers highly value the Atari Tempest Legacy Arcade for its nostalgic appeal and classic gameplay, with many expressing fond memories of playing the original game. The assembly process is generally seen as straightforward, making it an enjoyable experience for many. While the trackball's quality raises some concerns about long-term durability, the overall look of the arcade cabinet is widely praised for its aesthetic appeal.

And like an idiot, I trusted you again.
I jumped on an open box tempest legacy cab to save some coin and low and behold, it showed up with a locked up PCB. You examined it but didn’t test it.
I had to get the manufacturer to decide if a replacement part would be issued. 2nd Arcade1up fail of the season, Best Buy

Overall this is a pretty good purchase. Pros - it has a trackball and spinner and I love playing Tempest, Crystal Castles, Centipede, and Missile Command; attractive graphics on cabinet that reflect the original; lighted marque; quick boot to menu; easy volume control access on the control panel; included riser (being 6'2" it's comfortable playing this while standing); the spinner works smoothly. Cons - the trackball will end up getting replaced (it's just not very smooth but is still usable), Missile Command is a bit difficult to play not having the three buttons on the left side of the trackball like the original (I will look for a replacement control panel), and typical with any game that includes multiple games there are some that will get played once just to check them out. I had to watch a video on Akka Arrh since it was never released and I had no idea how to play it. Overall I'd say it was a good purchase and it will be enjoyed as part of the game room options.

Old school eighties guy. Always wanted a Tempest cabinet but did not want to spend $K and then have the boards go out, screens frag, etc. Arcade 1up is the perfect solution. Cab looks like a Tempest machine and the game play is the same (the spinner is more than adequate) as the originals. Can also play Asteroids, Centipede or Missile Command. Easy to assemble and looks great. Really happy w the purchase.

Good system. Track ball had bearing issues that prevented it from working. I cleaned and lubed the bearings and have not had any other issues. Game play is great. Brings back memory’s of the old arcade days.

The Arcade1Up units are pretty cool. They give you an opportunity to relive experiences from old video games in a convenient package with a good opening interface. Much easier than trying to play games on a computer with an emulator and a modern controller. One thing I did notice on this particular game, however, is that the buttons are located on the right side, meaning you have to work the track ball or spinner with your left hand, which feels backward to me. Being right-handed, I would have preferred an opposite layout so that I could use my primary hand (right hand) for motion control in the games and my secondary hand (left hand) for hitting buttons. Maybe my memory is wrong, but I seem to remember the buttons being on the opposite side for many of these games. Overall, though, good selection of games and fun to play. (As an aside, if you are taller, the static display that is part of the unit itself can actually impede your view of the top of the unit. I often find myself having to squat down or bend over a little bit to be able to see the entire screen, which is annoying. The screen is also smaller than I remember from the original arcade games, but then again, these units are not marketed as full-sized.)

Directions were straightforward and very easy. I took my time and finished in about 45 minutes. The quality of the MDF and vinyl wraps were very nice. The unit felt solid and not wobbly. All of the cuts and drilled holes were spot on. If I buy another I would use wood glue on the wooden pegs. The gameplay is just like I remembered, lots of fun. The only downside (not a deal breaker) is the sound from the speakers. Loud but not quality loud. I plan to upgrade soon with some nice PC speakers and mount them internally. I would definitely buy another game from Arcade 1up!!

The retail is too much for the quality of the material. The buttons suck! The coin door decal is an eyesore. The marquee is a little washer out. The graphics on the sides scratch up easily. And the encoder board goes out every couple months. So you have to contact arcade1up support in order to get a replacement deck. This was an inconvenience, but now you have to pay if the cabinet is out of warranty despite arcade1up knowing this is a common issue. I wound not recommend this at the full price. I paid $300 and I’m disappointed with my purchase.

Overall a decent cabinet. Took me a little over an hour to assemble without the riser. Assembly was reasonably straightforward. Only real tricky part is
A couple of questionable choices:
-Major Havoc uses the trackball rather than the spinner for left/right movements (spinner would’ve made more sense)
-Missile Command has the 3 bases’ fire buttons to the right of the trackball, which is great for left handed people but awkward for right handed players. I believe they do use buttons on the right, but they borrow the 2 player button which makes that arrangement just weird.
-Menus make frequent reference to an ‘A’ button but they meant fire.
-Menu selector box is hard to see. Had a second person look and they found the current game selector box hard to see.
-No way to do two player co-op on Space Duel
-A couple of the screws were a little tricky due to their proximity to the CPU box

Lots of fun and nice selection of games. My only hesitation for that 5 star is the track ball, it’s not really great! I’m sure we will get used to it but it feels kinda cheap / loose. Hope it lasts!

I bought this for my dad for a last minute Christmas gift a few years ago after the original gift I ordered ended up being a scam. This was something he was wanting since he is working on making a personal arcade in the basement. This arrived on time, works perfectly and was exactly what he was looking for in his collection.

You can't appreciate Legacy Arcade unless you were born in the good old days when going to the Arcade was the thing to do for young teens and young adults. Takes me back (70's-80's) every time I look at it. WOW miss.
