Good But There Are Issues...

First let me say that I picked up the Star Wars a few months back and it was so much fun I had to purchase AFM when it became available on bestbuy.com.
The build quality and ease of assembly mirrored the Star Wars machine. Arguably these pinball machines are the best constructed units Arcade 1up has offered to date.
With my Star Wars machine I did purchase a piece of tempered glass from my local glass shop and since my tempered glass piece for AFM is not here yet I was able to see a side by side comparison and can unequivocally recommend changing out the stock plexi. The difference is like night and day.
The interface is really easy to use and I love the variety of old time actual pinball tables with the AFM machine. Now to the not so good...
1) As has been documented in several reviews, White Water is completely unplayable. How A1up allowed this machine to ship with such a glaring issue is beyond me.
2) Several other tables take some getting used to because they're so fast. I would have appreciated a setting in the menu to slow these down some.
3) Leaderboards. I liked the simplicity of a TOP 10 like in the Star Wars machine. The leaderboard here is not as good and the pre set high scores are unrealistically high.
4) I think the haptic feedback here is much more muted than in the Star Wars table. I have found a video online with a fix for this problem, so that will be my weekend project.
5) I have found some issues with certain tables having overly sensitive tilt settings. Like the speed issues I mentioned I wish A1up would have built in a tilt sensitivity setting.
Four of of these five issues above can be corrected with a software patch. Hopefully Arcade 1up will provide something for us.
As a whole I'm still happy with my purchase for the most part and it's a great visual addition to my game room (I just need to add some art work). But I'm kind of surprised that some of these issues were not caught before this was released. I'd still give it a conditional recommendation.

An Imperfect Pinball Machine that's Still Fun

I ordered this on-line from BB and drove 3-hrs to pick it up, (BB won't ship this to your house) but the trip was well worth it. This is my 12th Arcade1up unit and only Big Buck Hunt beats it out as my favorite. The build quality and finishing touches of this machine is top notch for its price range. I only had this unit for less than a week but Medieval Madness has become my favorite out of the 10 game package, followed by Attack from Mars and Arabian Nights. The remaining 7 others are a mixed bag for me. For the most part, they suffer from the ball going straight between the flippers waaay too often. There seems to either be a layout issue or physics problem. But just having my top three make this purhase a great buy. Probably with more time on this machine I'll become better on the other seven, well maybe six. White Water has layout issues that causes the ball to zip past the flippers too often. Each game has very detailed instructions that will help guide you on how to play if you choose to read them.
PROS:
The soundtracks for these games are hilarious and the game play is very realistic.
Dual Speaker Design that sounds fantastic.
The unit looks awesome and is built to last.
10 Pinball Games in one with detailed playing guide.
Easy scrolling game selection feature.
Fun factor gets high marks and makes you come back for more.
CONS:
At least one game (White Water) has playing issues.
The 24 inch screen is 720p and not 1080p.
No Wi-fi.
The tilt feature seems nonexistent on my machine.

It's small and feels odd and off at first, but once you get used to it it's a fantastic machine for what it is. The game selection is great, and I totally forgot I'm playing video. I'll probably upgrade someday but this is a great way to test out virtual pinball.
One issue I had assembling it is the back cab holes didn't naturally align and I had to drill new ones. Easy but annoying for something so expensive, but we've had so much fun since I don't even care

This is a very fun machine to play. However, I had two issues which is why I knocked them a star. Right out of the box there was damage to a side board of the cabinet. And the box was not damaged so I would say it came that way from the factory. See picture. My only option was to return it to Best Buy as the 1UP rep said they would not ship that particular part to replace. So I kept it because it didn't seem to be worth the hassle. The second issue was this machine's accelerometer was making the machine tilt non-stop. I downloaded the firmware to update the machine and still had the issue. Finally after a few calls to 1UP they shipped me a new accelerometer and it mostly works. I say mostly, because a few times I have turned on the game after the new accelerometer install, I have still had the tilting issue. But for the most part, no problems. Gameplay itself is fun - really a lot of great boards loaded on here. Sound is awesome. Cabinet is very attractive, and overall the quality besides the listed issues is outstanding. Nice addition to the home bar.

I love this machine. I have been playing pinball since hanging out at a bowling alley on may winter Saturday afternoons beginning in the late 60s. This machine is a little smaller and uses a virtual play-board, but it looks, feels and sounds like the real thing, including an adjustable tilt sensitivity. It comes with 10 games, all classic Williams games and all very enjoyable. I was able to buy this on sale, took it home and had it assembled in under 2 hours, there is also a way to easily update patches from the arcade1 website. I highly recommend this or the other Arcade1 pinball games to any pinball fanatic,

I have had this pinball machine since April and I am happy to say that arcade 1up fixed the software issues. If you are purchasing this machine you can now do a software update from arcade 1ups website. The reason I like this so much is all the tables that come with it are actual Bally Williams tables in real life. (The Star Wars and marvel are not real tables) Midevil Madness is actually ranked as one of the best tables ever being included! It also comes with real solenoids so you can feel every hit of the bumper. I had an issue with my nudge sensor and I contacted arcade 1up, with no issues they sent me a new one for free. Which fixed the issue. This is the shinning star of my arcade room and gets played daily. It looks like a real 3/4 size pinball machine. My only complaint is the plexi glass that comes with it could be better. I know some people buy real glass to replace it. Overall it sounds great, plays great, and Arcade 1up fixed the software issues.

I bought AFM primarily to play Medieval Madness, so the other reports of Whitewater being unplayable didn't bother me. With that said, Medieval Madness, Attack from Mars, and Arabian Nights play well. The other tables have a slightly delayed nudge, and Whitewater has numerous frame skips. If you are heavily invested in Whitewater and the other tables besides MM, AFM, and AN, you may want to hold off until Arcade1Up releases a patch to fix the issues I mentioned (hopefully). I am still having a good time with this one, and the smaller form factor is perfect for my limited floor space.

This is a great, turn on and go pinball machine. This put of the 3 arcade 1up pinball models is the only one based on real williams tables that existed in and around the 90s. Some great picks for the selection and this is alot of bang for your buck if you get it on clearance at 400. I personally wouldnt pay any more for that. However I created my own virtual pinball table for home use so that maybe why i wont spend much more. I have other cases from other friends of mine who purchased this and are now fans of pinball after owning this cabinet.

The machine was fun while it worked, but it could use a better screen. After a year of very light use, maybe 100 hours, the machine will no longer boot.
The attached picture shows how the machine is behaving. The top screen will flash blue and the bottom screen is blank.

Great Game with Accelerometer Issues

I love this thing. For the last twenty or so years I've gone out of my way to find official AFM machines in arcades and bars as often as possible and when the Pinball Arcade game came out for PC with this game on it I bought it immediately. So basically I'm obsessed with Attack From Mars.
The minute I learned this machine from 1up Arcade existed about a month ago I knew I had to get it and I'm really glad I did. It's exactly what I expected given that I already own the Pinball Arcade game on my PC (which this digital version is based on) but playing it on this machine makes the experience a hundred times better. The realistic feedback from the flippers and the bumpers is on point, as is the sound and the digital screen on the back panel. The artwork on the machine is also top notch and the construction of the entire unit is fantastic. It looks awesome in my living room.
I'm giving this 4 stars instead of 5 though because the accelerometer- which is used to detect nudges and tilt, is extremely finicky. I know it's not just my machine too as a Google search on the issue will give you plenty of results with other people having the same issue. This could be greatly improved and it seems completely up to chance whether or not it will work correctly or in the worst case scenario, screw up your game. I just finished playing for an hour and it worked perfectly, but last night it was detecting nudges that didn't occur and wouldn't work at all when I shaked the machine furiously trying to save my ball. As someone that nudges and shakes an actual machine while I play this can seriously throw a monkey wrench into my overall performance in a game. Hopefully in the future there's an easy way to correct this issue or to calibrate the accelerometer as it seems purely up to chance when you turn the machine on if it will work correctly or not. There is a diagnostic mode on this but unfortunately there are no options for the accelerometer, and others have suggested just disconnecting it but I absolutely do not want to do that as, again, nudging the machine is a consistent part of my game strategy. There seems to be a 50/50 chance when I boot up the game that the accelerometer either works as intended or goes haywire and that sucks. I am going to email the company to see if they have a solution to this issue.
Another small complaint I have is the boot up sequence, you really shouldn't have to choose your language every time you start it up or deal with the game instructions though it's a very minor complaint at best and it's worth mentioning so hopefully the manufacturer sees this and takes note.
Aside from these issues though this machine is solid and I love every other aspect of it. Overall I am really happy with my purchase and will likely spend hundreds, if not thousands of hours on this thing just playing Attack From Mars alone. And when I get tired of that, which is unlikely as I've probably played this game thousands of times in the past, there's still 9 more games to play... a few of which I'm familiar with and really enjoy like No Good Gophers. If you're a huge fan of AFM you absolutely cannot go wrong with this game it looks fantastic, is well built, and plays exactly like the real thing... as long as the accelerometer is working correctly.

I had been wanting one of these pinball games for 3 years. I had a hard time with paying $600. Then they went up to $800, so of course I regretted not buying one earlier. After reading the reviews about some of the games not playing properly, I was a little skeptical. However, after going back and forth I decided to go ahead because the price was so phenomenal. I am absolutely glad I did. We are loving the games.

I love it! Being able to play some of the tables I used to play in the arcade at home is an awesome experience. The solenoids help make it feel like a real machine. I suggest upgrading the plexiglass with real glass, and checking out some of videos online to help unlock the true potential of this table. Even the wife has gotten into it. Really happy.

It's inferior to the Star Wars and Marvel tables by far (I have all three)! Software problems on AFM that A1U still has not, or will not address. If you're only going to get one or two of these because of floorspace issues go with the others. Star Wars is the best of the three but Marvel is good too.

Great vr pin, all games super fun to play with the exception of white water. Would be great if Arcade1up had a fix for this one. Also a head to head player like NBA jams ,or a add on so you could play h to h with others. I have all 3 vr pins ,and enjoy each of them..now just waiting for dragons lair.

Excellent machine after I downloaded the firmware from Arcade1ups site. I'm not a picky person so this is ideal for us, the scrutinizing modders will disagree. The extra graphics are a nice feature with the Dragon flying around on multiball on MM, and the Colonel taking pot shots at the Mother Ship after you destroy it was an added bonus. In my opinion this is one cool looking game/cabinet. glad my kids are grown as I don't have to take turns!
