So horribly put together that I, almost immediately bit the bullet and traded it for Mario kart. It throws you in with ZERO explanation. Tropical, 1st person game, dinosaurs and berries. OH, and you have to craft some clothes before you do anything. But that is a tale for another time...

Despite flaws, remains a great game, now on Switch

As a veteran of Ark (been playing since PS4's "early access" and having beaten all the bosses on Island, Center, Scorched Earth, working on Ragnarok and Aberration, waiting a while to start Extinction), I was very happy to hear that this game was coming to the switch; however, I did lower expectations since I know the graphic differences between the Switch and PS4, along with performance differences. I have played this game strictly as a single-player/unofficial private server player, so this review may come off unusually different from what others might have said, but I am brutally honest when I say this game is great on the Switch DESPITE the flaws that this game is suffering from; let me start with the cons/flaws for this game -render/load-in of terrain: Given all the background and terrain that surrounds the game (Island having so many trees, rocks, creatures, etc), the Switch does struggle to keep up with all that is going on around you. The FPS for me in handheld was very steady with no lags, though again terrain and texture would suffer at times. -Handheld: while I understand the frustrations of those who have had problems with the game off the dock, I personally have not had all the issues that others have had; I played a 3 hour session off the dock to see for myself what would happen; loaded myself and 3 friends into an unofficial private server and we didn't have much issue in handheld mode; again, textures would be somewhat choppy, frame rate did suffer slightly but not to where we couldn't do anything together. I can definitely see where those who would play official online would have issues in handheld mode; in dock, the game is much more stable, as my friends and I suffered no frame rate loss and textures were improved and rendering quicker. -Maps: Right now there is ONLY one map: The Island; so unfortunately, Switch survivors will not be able to go to the Center, Scorched Earth, Ragnarok, Aberration, or Extinction; HOWEVER, there is a lot that you can do within the Island alone (took me 100s of hours to get through everything, from dossier hunting, raising an army of tamed creatures, building my compound, etc on my PS4 data) so for me, it doesn't affect me that much; but I do feel bad for those who have heard so much about the other expansions and want to see them for themselves, only to be relegated to only playing on the Island for the time being; hopefully they release those expansions before too long; I enjoy taming dinosaurs and other creatures, so having this on the go with my favorite console made it sweeter; despite the flaws this game can suffer from, if you are an avid lover of dinosaurs, prehistoric creatures, exploration, and survival, this game is a worthy pick-up at its current price Since this review only goes with a 5* rating, I can't give my honest rating since I go on a scale of 1-10, so for this purpose, while I rate the game 4/5* my official score for this Nintendo Switch port is a 7/10, great game, worthy inclusion for those who enjoy the aforementioned themes above, but on the flip side, the flaws can hold this game back from being what it really is for those who play on PS4, XB1, and PC.

Had on Xbox one and it was entertaining enough to warrant buying it for our switch. Unfortunately it is a one player game on the switch which was a bummer for the kids as they enjoy playing together. Game is about the same on both consoles.

Definitely an interesting cool game that is mostly about surviving rather than an actual Beat the Game, type of concept. Found it to be a unique experience however some simple things, seem to have serious design flaws and could've been engineered a lot better, even from the start of game!!

I would say unless they update or improve the graphics like W3 this would have a appealing game play. But still worth trying as this is something amazing that they could get it to work on the Switch.

There are so many things you can do, it is difficult to focus on just one, especially someone who is a bit ADD! You can just tame animals, which is a challenge, but totally worth it! You can focus on gathering and building, adventuring, accomplishing challenges, and the list goes on and on. I like the ability to change the difficulty so that beginners can have fun without being eaten right away! The controls take some getting used to.

Ark is a very in depth survivor style game. I am not new to the game but i am new to the platform playing on Switch. If you are an Ark fan than you can imagine how nice it would be to take Ark with you anywhere you go and play it! My only peeve which is why im giving it a 4 star. Is the render is not very good so often things are blurry till it settles. Once settled it looks great! But it renders a lot so that is my only downside to having it on switch.

Haven’t used this game yet.... my 8 year old son had been requesting an Xbox for a couple years ONLY for this game. Was incredibly excited to see it for come out for the Switch. We are getting him a new Xbox this year but I checked various reviews which indicted the Switch version of Ark is a better experience
