The camera delivered sharp 1080p video with excellent color quality in testing. Black-and-white night video showed good contrast and crisp image detail. Motion alerts were accurate and arrived quickly, and the privacy shield worked as intended.

Works as it should. We use it for an indoor cam for our puppy. It needs to be plugged in vs battery power but I actually prefer that since the camera is in a corner and hard to reach. Recommended for the price. Also works with your existing Arlo account and app.

I recently integrated the Arlo Essential 2K Indoor Security Camera into my home security setup, and overall, it's proven to be a reliable and high-quality addition.
Pros:
Easy Setup and Unobtrusive Design: This indoor Arlo camera is impressively simple and discreet. The setup process is a breeze, and the fact that it plugs directly into an outlet, making it exceptionally convenient. Once powered, the camera seamlessly integrates into the existing Arlo app and account.
Exceptional Video Quality: The 2K HDR video captures a high-definition picture, allowing me to discern every expression caught on video. The night vision quality also provides a clear view of events in low-light conditions, leaving no room for guesswork. The swift adjustment to changes in lighting and seamless capturing of movements without lagging or skipping contribute to the camera's effectiveness.
Privacy Shield: The privacy shield is a significant advantage for an indoor camera, providing peace of mind. The ability to remotely command the camera to close its shutter via the app creates a physical barrier, ensuring privacy. The option to schedule when the privacy shield should be opened or closed adds to its versatility.
App Functionality: While the app is functional, there is room for improvement. Occasional lagging and connectivity issues to the live feed can be frustrating, impacting the user experience. The simultaneous playback of live and recorded feeds when reviewing recordings is an odd behavior that could use correction.
Noise- Canceling Two-Way Audio: The two-way audio functionality offers great sound quality, allowing easy conversations without the need to press and hold a button. However, there is a noticeable time lag, with audio preceding the video by several seconds. While this doesn't significantly detract from its usability, it's worth noting.
Integrated Siren: The inclusion of an integrated siren, triggerable either automatically or manually from the app, adds an extra security measure that may deter potential intruders.
Cons:
Arlo App Issues: The Arlo app has known issues, particularly with object identification and sensitivity settings. These challenges can be frustrating and might impact the overall user experience.
Monthly Plan Requirement: The necessity for a monthly plan for effective camera use was not clearly communicated before purchase, potentially surprising with an additional cost.
Overall, the Arlo Essential 2K Indoor Security Camera presents advanced features that significantly enhance home security. However, potential buyers should be mindful of the app issues and the requirement for a monthly plan, factors that may influence their decision. Despite these considerations, the camera stands as a valuable tool for fortifying home security and offering peace of mind.

ARLO ESSENTIAL INDOOR WIRED CAMERA ~ REALLY NICE!

Received my Arlo camera and since I have used all devices of another brand was anxious to give it a try. It comes with the 2K HDR wired camera, wall mount adapter and mounting screw kit plus a power adapter which is attached to the camera.
Since this is my first Arlo device, I had to download the app on my iPhone. I notice some folks are having issues using the app but since I just opened up an account I don't seem to be having problems with the features I've tried. Perhaps if I had been using the older Arlo app and then updated it might be irritating, but I'm glad that's not the case here.
I proceeded to set up my account with 2 step verification via SMS text/push notifications. I named the camera location, address and time zone. I then headed to ADD A DEVICE and chose the ESSENTIAL SERIES INDOOR CAMERA GENERATION 2. Clicked on the pairing button top of camera and the LED light started flashing blue. It paired very easily and then I set up my wi-fi which added the camera to my new account. I have a very strong signal which I'm sure is helpful in its operation. I named the camera and shortly after that it went into the update mode with the LED flashing blue then amber. Only took a couple minutes and it was completed. I placed it on my window ledge facing the mailbox, driveway and road. I am more rural but do have neighbors and the kids sometimes are messing in my mailbox so hopefully now I will be able to see who they are and catch them eventually.
You are offered a 30 day free trial of Arlo's Premium Service and once that's done I will decide if I want to pay for a subscription or use it without. I am already paying a fee for my other cameras and doorbell but Arlo's monthly rates are pretty low.
One of my favorite features of the camera is the privacy shield. I leave it open in the day and at dusk I hit the HOME STAY on my app which automatically closes it. You can set scheduled times as well. For me, when ready to record again, I just open the app, go to DEVICES, click on OPEN AND GO LIVE and the shield opens up, which I do every morning at 6am. Works out perfectly.
This little Arlo camera is an awesome addition to my security system! I am pleased I now get notified of movements by my mailbox. You can't put a price on peace of mind! The picture quality is great, especially looking through a window, but only in the daylight hours. At night there is too much glare from the glass but I don't need anything at night so it's just fine. Nice wide view of the street as well. I can definitely recommend the Arlo camera purchase and I'm happy to give it a 5 star rating.

One of the most commendable aspects about all Arlo devices in my experience is the simplicity of setup. There are few other security camera apps that make it as fluid or as simple of a process! This camera was as easy to set up in the app as any of them I have used, and there is a great variety of mounting options for this camera available including a standard threaded hole for mounting to typical tripod or pivoting mounts. The long USB-C power cord is a welcome addition to this camera, as is the included AC power adapter for it. It vastly increases the versatility for powering it, up to and including hooking it up to a USB-C port equipped power bank if you want to hook it up in a really obscure location without easy access to wall socket.
The high resolution 2K footage this camera records is absolutely insane. It is such nice quality and thus far has demonstrated perfected distinction between animal and humanoid forms when triggered in our living room. The night vision recording is equally astonishing. There is no blurring at all of figures even in pitch black recording scenarios, I have included a screen shot of it.
The only thing I wish this camera had is a micro SD card storage solution so I could have hard back up of recordings. Alas, in this increasingly digital age we are in, cloud storage and security payment plans have just become par for the course with a lot of these consumer-grade wireless camera companies like Arlo.
We are going to be using this camera to monitor our baby nursery soon, and I have totally confidence that I will be able to get it mounted perfectly and have a great view of the whole room both night and day!
Thanks for reading and I hope you are as impressed by the quality of the camera footage as I have been.

The Essential 1 (wired 2K) cam is plenty sufficient for your basic needs and is reasonably priced based on its primary features and build quality. Keep in mind that this is an indoor camera so it doesn't have to be overly rugged but I was mildly disappointed that it felt like a children's toy. This isn't a totally arbitrary complaint because some heft would help with stability, especially when it's on the stand. The camera does come with a mounting kit to secure it into place but that option wasn't really available to me given that I didn't want to drill into the place I wanted this camera placed. I have this camera sitting on top of my kitchen cabinets to monitor that space but because the stand doesn't have a ball joint or pivoting options, I was hoping to angle it down with a little wedge but the center of gravity is a bit off so I had to opt for mounting tape onto the wedge to get the angle that I wanted. Mounting would've solved this but, as I mentioned, that wasn't an option for me, specifically.
Overall, though, the video quality on this 2K camera is absolutely astounding and, assuming you have a good, reliable, wifi signal, it doesn't take long for it to load properly in the app. Notifications are very quick to message you so you won't miss any suspicious activity. As with any of these security systems related these days, you can add a subscription package to unlock more cloud-based features like Emergency Response and 30-day video recording. However, there are clearly some additional detection features like Package Deletion and Smoke/CO Alarm that I strongly believe should just be included with the purchase of the device but it's part of their monthly plan.
This Arlo camera (2nd gen) works well and the video quality for the price point is its greatest feature. I may have missed it but I didn't see a way to get this integrated into my Apple iOS HomeKit app.

Essential camera that exceeded my expectations

The Arlo Essential Indoor Wired 2K resolution Security Camera (2nd Generation) with Automated Privacy Shield offers high-quality video, reliable motion detection, two-way audio, and the added privacy protection of the automated privacy shield. It is a versatile camera that will enhance the security of your home or, at the very least, provide you with the comfort of monitoring your loved ones. It's an essential camera so you don't have the freedom to pan or scan. For what it does offer, it does really well.
I must admit, I wasn't impressed with this camera at first. When unboxing, it looks like every other camera I've had in my house, but there are a few things that make this one stand out: the smartphone app, the security features within the app, the wide-angle view, night vision, and the resolution. The box consists of basically the camera and the power cable. The camera itself can swivel if you need to angle it left, right, up, or down, but it does not pan. It can also be mounted.
The security of the smartphone app is impressive. I've owned a few different brands, and this is the first app that requires a login to actually view the live feed of the camera. The emergency feature allows you to both call a friend and gives you access to emergency response if needed. These features require a subscription, but activating the siren doesn't require one. It allows you to alert everyone or scare someone away if needed. You can set routines for arming and disarming your camera or specific cameras if you have more than one, and if you want to work around a specific schedule. The privacy shield is great for security, ensuring that you are the only ones with access to your camera feed. There is an event feed, but it requires a subscription. It would be nice if they provided short previews without a subscription, like other cameras I have. The app allows you to arm/disarm according to your personal routines with automation, which also requires a subscription. There's also a 2 way audio if you need to speak to someone.
The wide-angle of the camera also exceeded my expectations at 130 degrees. I was able to view not only my living room but also half of my kitchen. I have a few kids running around the house, and it's nice to have such a wide-angle. The resolution on the camera is very detailed. You can switch between 720, 1080, and 2K resolution, which comes in handy when viewing a live feed away from home on mobile data. I have noticed a clear difference in resolution between this camera and two other brands I have installed in my house. And last but not least, I must say that the night vision exceeds all my expectations with its detail and clarity. The high resolution allows you to zoom in with detail, even at night.
The feed requires a subscription, but it allows you to receive recorded events when motion is detected. I can see this camera being used for anything from monitoring pets and children to providing a sense of security when you are away. The security provided by the app and the physical privacy shutter is refreshing, considering it records your most private moments.
Based on the security, the app, and the resolution (day and night), I would recommend this camera. The app offers features, such as the siren and automation, that I haven't seen in my other cameras. It's an affordable option and, in my opinion, has significant advantages compared to other cameras I have used. For an essential indoor camera, it exceeds expectations.
Pros:
*Real high-definition video up to 2K (Noticeable improvement compared to my other cameras)
*Automated privacy shield
*Impressive app loaded with features and high security
*Built-in siren for security
*Simple installation
*Night vision among the best I've seen for its class
*130-degree wide-angle viewing (you will notice the difference)
Cons:
*Some features require a subscription, including the event feed
*The app took me some time to learn; there's a lot going on
*It's wired
*Build quality is very basic

I added the Arlo Essential 1-Camera Indoor Wired 2K Security Camera (2nd Generation) with Automated Privacy Shield to an existing 6-camera Arlo wireless camera system. Integration with the existing network of cameras was seamless, but right away I noticed the Arlo smartphone app on my iPhone changed dramatically. I’m not sure if that’s because of the new camera, or if the change was just a coincidence. It took me a while to reconfigure everything from devices to widgets, but everything seems to work and I am getting used to the new app. Speaking of the app, my one wish to Arlo would be to separate the two icons that activate the siren and the one that switches to/from full screen. They are so close to each other and you have to be precise with your finger to avoid activating the alarm. It seems like that would be an easy fix.
The camera itself is wired for power and thank you Arlo for including the plug-in power adapter. Installation is basically placing the camera where you want it and plugging it in. The device is then installed and configured using the smartphone app. During the initial installation, the camera did a firmware update, so it’s good to know that Arlo keeps the camera updated with either improved features and/or security measures. I really like having the security shield, knowing that the camera is only viewing when activated.
Unlike most Arlo cameras, the Essential-1 uses WiFi to connect to the app, whereas typically there is a hub device that connects via an RJ-45 cable to your cable modem and that connects wirelessly to the cameras scattered throughout your home or property. I’m not sure which is better, but in either case, I’ve never been out of range and the system seems to work flawlessly. 2K resolution is more than enough detail on a smartphone screen. From its wide angle of view positioned on our fireplace mantle, I can see our entire family room and most of our kitchen, and both front and back door entries to our home, so coverage is perfect with just a single camera. Arlo provides quality products and is backed by top-notch service should you ever need it. Highly recommended!

I come from another system that doesn’t need a centralized base so I was happy to try out the Arlo Essential camera that works with just my phone and my current network. This one is the wired version that doesn’t have a hub.
The first thing I had to do was upgrade the firmware. It only took a few minutes after I got back into the Arlo app and the camera was ready to go and was working with my system.
Once I got the camera up and going, I was really impressed at the picture quality. It was fairly good with lights on and the refresh rate was also pretty good. I think the camera was communicating directly with my phone because the latency was really low.
I opted not to get the Arlo service because we’re tight for it but hopefully they have a deal on the service sometime. You can pay for three different levels plus a budget option that is for only one camera. All of the levels allow for AI to start working for you. Otherwise it’s just a regular old camera, which in our case is fine. In terms of value I’d say it’s about equal to the Nest Aware service but about $60 more expensive per year for the higher tier that is equal.
The 2K resolution is much better than my other brand cameras. I was fairly impressed at the quality and lack of latency. So, it’s a great little camera.
The interesting thing about this camera is that it has a remote control privacy shield that you can turn on remotely. (check out the pictures) I think this is a trend now since there is so much fear about hackers breaking into your IOT. I am very very thumbs up about this feature. Great!
Our use case for this would be to watch our baby in the nursery so we don’t need recording, so really if I did need recording I’d have to get one of the Arlo hubs or subscribe to the service.
If you are like us and just need to see a room or a nursery, then this is the right purchase for you. So easy to set up and super nice!

Crisp and Clear Video and Audio

This indoor Arlo camera is simple and quite unnoticeable, but definitely high quality. The set-up is so easy, and the fact that it is plugged in to an outlet makes it a cinch because there is no charging involved.
The 2K HDR video gives such a high-definition picture that you can tell every expression made by those caught on video. Likewise, the night vision picture quality gives a defined view of the occurrences that take place in the shadows. The contrast between light and dark leaves nothing to guesswork. It also adjusts very quickly to any change in lighting. The best part of the video quality is how seamlessly it catches movements. There is no lagging or skipping in the recorded clips, everything is recorded fluidly.
The privacy shield is a big plus since this is an indoor camera. It gives me peace of mind that I can just go on the app and tell the camera to shutter its eye and know that there is a physical barrier preventing it from looking in. The camera responds right away once I switch to the “Arm Home” setting, which basically tells it that I am home and there is no need to surveil. The camera also gives the option of scheduling when the privacy shield should be opened or closed.
The app is okay but could use improvement. My chief annoyance is that there are times when the app lags and fails to connect to the live feed of the camera. It does not happen all the time, but when it does it is frustrating. Another issue is that you can have the live feed on, but if you start reviewing the recordings located right underneath that, it will not pause the live feed. Basically, you hear the sounds from the live feed while also hearing the recorded feed simultaneously and it makes no sense why it works that way. The app also has options for notifications, which is great when no one is home, otherwise it is unnecessary. It will just go off incessantly if you have it in a high traffic area. Lastly, the device’s settings could be better situated, it’s just hard to locate different settings and remember where to find them. Overall, I will be glad when they rearrange their app in a more intuitive manner.
The two-way audio has great sound. When I used it, I did note a time lag. The sounds come in several seconds before the video catches up. Other than that, it is better than any security camera I have. You can converse easily as there is no button to press and hold. I do hear my voice echo back at me as I speak though.
All in all, I find this to be a great addition to my home security and would not hesitate to recommend this to my loved ones. I happily await an app update from Arlo as that is the only downside I can find to this product and believe it is an easy fix.

Love Arlo Cameras And Plan To Add More

This Arlo camera is a great way to add permanent audio/video surveillance coverage to any indoor area of the home. It can function as a stand alone unit, but will work even better with other Arlo cameras. I am using it with the Arlo Floodlight camera, Arlo Doorbell camera, and another Arlo indoor camera. The cameras complement each other nicely and help provide great peace of mind.
This camera is not battery powered, so it must be plugged into an electrical outlet. It can be wall mounted or placed on the included base. I did not wall mount it because I want the flexibility to move it around the house as needed.
The 2K (2560 x 1440) video quality is clear, crisp, and detailed. The 130 degree field of view (wide angle) captures all of the area that it is covering. The live two-way audio communication feature works well. But a fast upstream internet signal is necessary or there will be a significant lag..
Setup is simple and this camera does not require a hub to function. Since I already have an Arlo account all I needed to do was open the App and add a camera.
One feature that I greatly appreciate is the physical privacy shield. The shield is easily activated and deactivated in the App. When activated a physical cover blocks the camera lens so you can visually confirm that video recording is not possible.
An Arlo subscription is not required to use this camera, but is highly recommended so as to get the maximum functionality of the camera. Not having a subscription will provide only very basic cloud services. I am subscribed to the unlimited camera plan and feel that it is well worth the cost.
I am very happy with the Arlo family of cameras and plan to add more as the need arises.

Arlo - Essential 1-Camera Indoor Wired 2K Security

As a member of the Tech Insider Network program, I had the privilege to test the Arlo - Essential 1-Camera Indoor Wired 2K Security Camera. I wish I received this earlier because I just renewed my ADT subscription and could stand to save money in today economy. This is the 2nd Generation though, so I am sure there have been more improvements since. So far, the Arlo device appears to be a great security solution for any home with great field of view and many intuitive features.
The camera integrates seamlessly with the Arlo Secure app, making home monitoring intuitive. Its 2K video resolution was incredibly useful during my current bathroom renovation, allowing for clear remote monitoring and communication via two-way audio (which is surprisingly clear and intelligible).
I haven’t had the chance to delve into the automation features for daily routines due to my rotating work schedule, which doesn't align with consistent automation settings. I do, however, allow the Arlo Secure app notify me anytime there is sound or motion detected. This, couple with the Armed Stay feature is very handy when traveling and away from home. After reviewing the camera indoors, where I'm not keen on constant surveillance, I plan to relocate it outside. Additionally, I'm eager to see how it integrates with my existing ADT security system.
It's important to note that this camera is not battery-operated. Instead, it is powered through a USB-C wall adapter, which ensures continuous operation without needing to worry about battery life. This makes it more reliable, although it does limit placement options to where power outlets are accessible. Mostly because the length of the cable is that of a standard cellphone charging cord.
The camera could be more discreet; the blue light indicating recording is quite visible. Features like the built-in siren ( which is super loud for its size), as well as the effective night vision, contribute positively to its overall security capabilities.
In short, the Arlo Essential Indoor Camera, is a suitable and efficient security device. While ideal for specific uses like monitoring home renovations, pet and baby monitoring, or an "away from home security, I anticipate further evaluating its effectiveness outdoors and its compatibility with my ADT system.

Arlo - Essential 1-Camera Indoor Wired 2K Security Camera (2nd Generation) with Automated Privacy Shield is an indoor security camera that delivers video in 2560 X 1400 (2K), so details & clear faces are noticeable in both lighter & darker environments.
Closing the privacy shield prevents the camera from capturing video when you choose. Two-way audio allows you to speak through the camera into the room using your smart phone.
Unlike my existing 7) Arlo cameras, only after I set up the Arlo Essential 1 camera did I discover that this camera has a monthly monitoring charge after the 30-day free trial. I am already paying monthly to monitor a different brand of security cameras, so this is an unexpected recurring expense which I will decline. Reviewing the fine print on the back of the box: "Arlo Secure service, including cloud recording, requires paid subscription after trial period."
After 1-day of successful operation, this camera attempted to update firmware unsuccessfully & remained "dead" for a full day in a strong WiFi area until I unplugged it, which restored normal operation.
The app is the weakest link; it is not user friendly & times out from lack of frequent use, causing the camera to stop recording video until you sign in again. I returned to the camera, reviewed what should have been video & discovered that the app had stopped video capture.
CONCLUSION:
Essential 1 captures good video for indoor plug-in (no battery) applications; however I would not depend on this camera for your security requirements until the app is updated.

They work great so far . You need to be a little phone Ap savy to set up no instruction how to. You can go online to look how to but you still got to play with it to make them work. Not great for detecting motion facing outdoor so don’t get for out door long range motion sensing . Picture quality 2k is pretty good not the best but for the price is good enough .
