Modem gives you extra/free speed with Comcast

This modem gives you extra speed if you have Comcast, and you get the 150mb tier speed. I'm paying for 150 down and 5 up, but I'm getting an average of 180 down and 6 up. I've tested with multiple speed tests and servers. The slowest I've gotten with this modem is 178 download, and the fastest I've gotten is just over 184. Line quality is perfect and without packet loss. My ping on different servers locally is 4 to 7. Never any errors. The only negative I've found is it runs hot. You will need to place it where it has air all arpund not in a confined place. Also, when we had a big heat wave it got warm enough to lossen the cable in the back. I tightened it back up and it hasn't been a problem since. I highly recommend this modem if you have Comcast 150mb speed. And I also hear that it gives some extra speed on the 105 speed, but I can't varify that. Also got the price match from Amazon. Hope this review helps!

Great modem at a great price! Important note. I was talking to tech guy at Arris as I am super OCD and I called because I read the user guide and it stated that the top and bottom left lights are green but in real life I was looking right at them and they look white! He explained to me that the two middle blue LEDs were so close and bright the when viewed from the from they appear to make the green LEDs look white and everything was working as it should. That is why I have included two pictures so you know what it really looks like. Also I have tech background and could not get it to work at first but confirmed with Arris and sperate IT GUY that the reason it may not auto set up is because Xfinity Comcast setup is absolutely garbage. You MUST dial in and get a tech support person and give them the Mac ID. Then after the phone call about 10 minutes later everything was working and no issues since.

Setting it up was easy. Just a call to Comcast and voila. Its performance is very good. It does not heat up. I think it was a good decision. The only con was the delay in arriving... it took near a long week; even existing in nearby stores.

I initially bought my Motorola SURFboard Modem SB6121 back in 2014. I have utilized it for many Internet providers to eliminate the equipment rental fee that a lot of them try to charge per month. My current Internet provider is Spectrum, which I have the 100 Mbps service plan. My speed was around 110 Mbps when I did some various speed test. I decided to upgrade my modem since this one had a high Mbps throughput of 172 Mbps & upgrading my plan to 400 Mbps was only an extra $20. I went ahead and bought the SURFboard Modem SB6183 to prepare for my faster speed. When I did the speed test, it had increased all the way to 240 Mbps. That was with only changing out the modem! Now I’m debating about increase my speed as the SB6183 has doubled my speed alone (it can handle up to 600 Mbps). The changing of the modem was as simple as plugging in the coaxial into the modem and an Ethernet cable to my laptop. Then I was able to inform my provider via an online internet tab that popped up. I highly recommend trying to upgrade your modem or to purchase one instead of paying rental fees that cost you more than a modem. I included pictures of the modem in the dark, so that you are able to see how much light is seen when it is on.

Okay, this thing was pretty much plug and play. I had purchased a self installation kit from COMCAST Colorado and when I got here all I had to do was plug my cable modem into the wall , connect my laptop into the cable modem, and open a browser. COMCAST registration was waiting. I was up and running in almost no time. I now have this cable modem plugged into the wall (I moved from the setup spot in my living room to the laundry closet but first had to replace the solid panel that was covering the old junction box with a new panel and the appropriate inserts), my personal NetGear R7000 Nighthawk plugged into the cable modem, then the provided (and unconfigurable 10/100) COMCAST/NetGear security infrastructure router plugged into my Nighthawk. I added the security services later. Doing a speed test from a browser on a computer wired or wireless (AC) is returning on average ~135-147 Mbps. I'm subscribed for 150 Mbps. Bottom line, this cable modem is definitely a snap to configure and works well (for the amount of work that is expected for such a device).

I am a senior citizen, so in the last 30 Years I have bought many different brands of modems. By far this model has been great. I have never had to unplug this model to reboot. My last modem had to be rebooted at least 3 times a month. I give this ARRIS model 5 stars!

Packaging was great. The install was super easy. Awesome plug and play, you just got to call your internet provider and give them the MAC address. Within 10 min I was up and running. I was using the Time Warner Cable(TWC) Internet speed of 100 down/10 up. It put me up to 118/11 in a few speed tests. The reason I got this modem was to save money in the long run. TWC was charging me about $10 a month to rent from them. Because I just saved myself $10 a month by buying this AWESOME modem I upgraded my internet speeds to the 200 down/20 up. After the speed upgrade I did a few speed tests and the results were amazing at 217.13/21.68. My speed test was using a connect cat7 Ethernet cable. Do yourself the favor and buy this. Look at the pic with my results.

    Future Proof Upgrade

The Motorola Surfboard SB6183 cable modem, while being a tad higher than I wanted to pay, still pays for itself in the end. It not only will save you those pesky modem lease fees the cable companies charge, but this purchase will also future proof your broadband connectivity in that one shouldn't need to upgrade their cable modem for a year or two. You will definitely notice a speed difference increase with this modem, especially if you're currently using an older modem that has 4 or 8 bonded download channels. The SB6183 has 16 bonded downloaded channels at its disposal. This means if you're subscribing to the say the Time Warner 300/20 service and you're seeing speeds at half that with the older modems, purchasing this modem will correct that and get you in the fast lane. This product is definitely recommended, even if you're not subscribing to top tier broadband because eventually the cable companies will force you into a newer model of cable modem, so why not take advantage of the future today and purchase the SB6183? You'll be glad you did.

I did quite a lot of research before buying a new modem, and was led to the conclusion that a separate router and separate modem was the way to go. So the ARRIS SURFboard was what I was led to and I must say it's a great little box. Super easy to set up - just plug in the Ethernet and coaxial cable as well as the power cable and you are good to go. I have noticed stability and slight speed improvements on my desktop (which is plugged directly into the modem, I currently do not have a router) over my previous router/modem combo.

I'm using it with RCN 1-Gig Internet service and it works well. RCN is able to use use it and there's been no issues. Lights are easy to make out. A Quick Start guide comes with it, a larger Manual is available as a PDF from the Arris website. You can log into the unit to check status and errors by entering the cable modems IP into a web browser, I uploaded some screen shots of what you can see. There are two Ethernet ports on the back. You can use either or both at the same time. With a router plugged into one, I was able to plug a PC in to do some testing and both worked together. It works like a switch/hub to divide the signal. It does not turn a 1GB line into a 2GB line though, your service is whatever it is set to, Its solidly built. Plenty of Cable ISP's use these for their rental units. It runs a bit on the warmer side, so keep it ventilated. It is among the fastest cable modems available and needs a fast CPU to pump up to 10Gbps, so it can run hot. Not sure if I'll ever need 10Gbps, best I can get now is 10% of its rated capacity. I should be future proofed for a number of years to come. The only con is the price. But I save on a monthly modem rental fee, so it will eventually pay at some point and start saving me money.

I read several reviews beforehand and settled on this item based on those reviews, pricing, and what Cox cable had as requirements. It was easy to set up and the end result is very fast speeds - upload and download. I had to call Cox to get the set up completed but that was not an issue with the modem. One issue - it has a couple of lights on it to include a BRIGHT BLUE light. you cannot shut it off and it will light up what ever room you put it in. You could cover the modem but then I would worry about overheating.

These days that we are changing provider frequently, it is better to have your own Modem and Router. I asked the technicians at Best Buy and this product was their recommendation. Installation is easy and works without any complicated set up. Ah! and it is nice, it has a really nice design.

My main reason to purchase this modem was to replace another modem I had just bought (Arris SBG6782-AC) but could not get it to get a lock (stay online) after several attempt and troubleshooting with Comcast agents. This one, on the other hand, got a lock right away! Everything is pretty straight forward with this device. Here are some pros & cons I found so far: - Compact size (5"L x 2"W x 5"H) - Very easy to configure. -16 downstream channels & 4 upstream channels. - Lights in front are easy to read. - Compatible with all cable providers which support DOCSIS 3.0 - Energy Star certified Cons: - Price could be cheaper - Gets a little hotter than I anticipated Be mindful this is not a gateway, which means it can only generate one IP address for one device. You will need a separate gateway/router combo in order to connect multiple devices to your network and essentially to the Internet.

Reliable, unlike the Ubee DDW36C TWC uses 16 x 4 bonding, the highest available for cable service 16x downstream bonding can alleviate congestion problems for some cable areas. TWC allows existing customers to plug in this modem and activate it online, no phone required. Supports Time Warner Cable's Maxx tiers.

I previously had an SB6141, when TWC MAXX arrived my plan bumped me up to 200/20 which the SB6141 was unable to deliver. I was basically ok with just 100/10 though I was paying for the next higher teir. I tried to lower my bill by going down, want happening. Going down a he is was going to cost more because of discounts I was granted by their customer loss protection department. I initially forgot to disable qos in my router that was protecting me from buffer bloat on the sb6141 and couldn't get more than the 100/10 I was previously getting. Once I turned qos off I got the full speed. It's not uncommon to get 234/24 with test on DSLREPORTS.COM {http://www.dslreports.com/speedtest} Buffer bloat has been eliminated with this modem. Just this morning got an update pushed down from TWC presumably fixing the recently discovered IPV6 issue with several modem models. My previous SB6141 was a good and faithful companion for several years, I have every exhortation this SB6183 will be as well.

We purchase this model from all models because it is the only one who works with cablevision, o matter you are in peekakill or ossining this model is the only one it works for u after we tried the most expensive, the most wanted, this was the only one who works. After 4 years of working bo stop looks like it need to be replace, at least tha is what the cable tech support said on the phone. We will order another one and see if thiswas the problem. Beside this all works good
