Let me start by saying that I didn't start playing the game until after patch 3 came out. I say this because of all the performance issues and bugs that were reported upon release. So far I have not experienced any of these issues. No major frame rate drops or bugs so it's pretty enjoyable.
The game itself is really good but after playing a few of the games in the series it's starting to look repetitive. The game controls are getting more complex. Its visually stunning. There's a huge number of people roaming the streets, which sometimes can be too much. Lots of different missions. There's no pick pocketing. I like how you get to seamlessly go from the outside to the inside of buildings without having to load any graphics. The multiplayer allows you collaborate with others within the main game but I think you need PS Plus membership for that.
Overall, I would recommend it, especially if you are new to the series.

Assassin's Creed Unity, after the numerous patches to fix its bugs, is a true next-generation game. It introduces a more difficult gameplay formula, but still retains the core combat mechanics of previous Assassin's Creed games.
Story: 5/10
The story was really bland. Only reason I'm even gifting it a 5 is because of its rich setting and Elise. The introduction of Elise as a partner was well done and adds an exciting element. Other than that, it's your typical assassin wanting revenge, pick-himself-back-up-after-a-low point story. One revenge kill after another. Arno is a dull protagonist similar to Connor from AC3.
Gameplay: 8/10
Here's where the game truly shines. As I mentioned beforehand, it adds a fun challenge with the new degree of difficulty in enemies. You feel like a true assassin, forced to use stealth in more situations like never before. The new mechanic for the main missions gives you a variety of options on how to tackle them, whereas in previous AC games you were forced down a linear path. Also introduced in Unity is downwards parkour, which does get annoying at times when Arno doesn't head towards where you intend him to. Otherwise, it's a smooth mechanic and climbing up and down buildings is much more refined. Also a major addition is the new crowd system. In most parts you will find it easier to use the crowd to blend.
Content: 8.5/10
The main campaign missions do not take too long to complete, approximately 10 hours depending on your skill. AC:Unity has a plethora of side missions and collectibles. Murder mysteries are akin to crime investigations in the Batman: Arkham games. Nostradamus enigmas require a bit of research and background knowledge on Revolutionary France. The most fun side content in my opinion were the Data Helix missions where you are required to retrieve data fragments in an artificial setting.
Soundtrack: 8/10
Soundtrack is what you would expect from Revolutionary France. As always, AC has a good soundtrack that goes well with the setting.
Coop:
No rating because I haven't really played it besides accidentally being put in a match.
Conclusion: Yes I did get lazy at the end of this review. And yes my review is incomplete as I did not play coop and the Dead Kings DLC. Strictly speaking from a single-player point of view (main campaign and side content), it's a must buy and must play as it's an Assassin's Creed game at its core with improved gameplay mechanics. The only downside is the bland story and dull protagonist. Otherwise, I would recommend whoever took the time to read this review and all AC fans to buy this game.

This is the second AC for the next gen consoles and one can tell that Ubisoft really wanted to make use of all that graphical and processing power! The problem with trying to harness power you don't understand... Things go wrong. While the graphics are beautiful, the gameplay is hit or miss. There are tons of glitches most are small and oft times funny (people stuck in trees, or falling randomly out of the sky, ect) but some are utterly frustrating most notably during combat and while free running (which is common throughout the series and we should be used to it by now) I haven't had the opportunity to play the co-op on PS4 so can't comment on that.
I will try to end on a positive note: the story is engaging, the murder mysteries are fun and different. Arno is very likable and you want him to succeed in his quest for vengeance. The reason I get so upset by the glitches is because they break the flow of the story and snaps me back to reality. Kind of like someone else hitting pause while your watching a movie.
All in all if you can find it on sale or pre-owed and like AC grab it. If you are easily frustrated and prone to throw controllers... You might want to pass.

I have not got very far in the game, but the open world environment and detail of Paris is beautiful. It really feels like there is no end to the things you can do in this game! Tons of missions, side quests, treasures and more. Not to mention I was able to get a free campaign off the PS Network which will no doubt ad many more hours of gameplay.

On release, it had bugs but after a 7 or 8 gig patch it works great. i didn't see many glitches before the patch but that may not hold true for everyone. Considering how the series has changed from stealth action game to an action RPG, this is an under-rated gem. Protagonist Arno does become an assassin due to selfish reasons but the story and plots really take you in. great mix of missions and this is old school AC at its best. taking down templars is fun and sets you up for the follow up syndicate very well. Both these games are my favorites from the series. its a hit and a miss but for those who miss old AC gameplay, better get this as it's even reasonably priced now.

Assassin's Creed Unity has been a satisfying experience for me. I have got the platinum trophy of this game and I enjoyed most of the gameplay.
What I love most is the extremely detailed 18th century Paris, from stunning re-creation of famous buildings and structures (both outside and indoor appearances and decorations) to its near real life residents. I would spend hours just walking on the streets and looking at those buildings like a tourist. As for structure modeling, this game is more like an art piece than a video game. I took quite a few screenshots on my PS4, my favorites are some of the luxury indoor decorations of the palaces, the rooms are so immersive and highly detailed that I felt like I was actually there. As for the rich amount of NPC populate, I saw all kinds of activities and it is definitely the most living world in the entire franchise. Since I do engineering related work in real life, I was surprised to find one of the earliest sanding machine. I found it in a machine workshop, a guy was operating on the sandinging machine which is powered by his feet stepping on the pedal instead of electricity, with a workpiece in his hand. Just a normal folk doing his job. There are many activities like this waiting for players to discover.
The combat system is lacking. Counter-kill doesn't exist anymore and the combat is a bit dull. Arno doesn't have an arsenal of gadgets like Batman in Arkham series nor wraith abilities like Talion in Shadow of Mordor. Since high level enemies are able to parry your first two strikes, players are put in a defensive position: waiting for enemies to strike, counter them then get a few clean hits. I would love to see a counter-kill mechanics similar with the very first Assassin's Creed game, where counter-kill relies on strict timing. The enemies are also much deadly because they can use firearms and flash grenade against you. The snipers are able to detect and attack players from 30 meters (estimated) away but player's pistols and rifles have a maximum range of 25 meters (estimated). In short, there is no way to counter-snipe them. And for many missions it is very difficult to stay undetected.
Assassin's Creed Unity has the weakest story line in the franchise. The creed has faded ever since Revelations and I think it reached all-time low in Black Flag and Unity. Arno's actions lack motives, he has his own agenda and blindly follows lead after lead. At the very end he forgets why he even joined the brotherhood in the first place. Again, this is my personal take. On the other hand, Unity has a variety of side missions. I enjoyed the murder mysteries missions where you help a police officer solving crimes. You have to use your brain to analyze evidences instead of cutting down enemies. Those missions are indeed carefully crafted along with Paris story missions and riddles. I highly recommend those who haven't tried them to give it a shot.
Coop missions now use p2p connection and for the most part is unplayable since other players' PING can be very high. Expect super lagging.

A very good game that innovates on the Assassins Creed formula in a very welcome way. The new features implemented in the game are Great; for example the parkour down mechanic was very much needed and the games will suffer if they are no longer present. The combat is challenging and the game is more centered around stealth , and the mission's are very open to tackle them anyway you want. Their are some bugs, glitches and frame rate issues that they are working on correcting.

I'll be upfront and honest when I say this, bu this is probably one of the worst assassin's creed games I've played in a while. I assumed that moving on into next gen could perhaps improve the series into a much better gaming franchise as a whole, but I can't believe how wrong I was. The frame rate is GOD AWFUL on both the PS4 and on my custom built desktop, which has an Intel i7 5930k and GTX 890. I thought I might have had a bad copy, but it seems like this is happening to everyone else.
Other than that, graphics do look nice, but they're TOO nice. This is mainly why the framerate can be terrible, because there is so much emphasis on graphics. I mean, they look really amazing, and realistic, but it's forcing other core aspects of the game to deteriorate. The parkour system is implemented a little better than previous games, but it still has glitches at points in the game. Online is fun, but only if the other players know how to actually play this game and don't fool around. I do like the customization that Unity allows, it's really unique and an awesome idea on Ubisoft's part. It's awesome to be able to finally make your dream assassin come to life in this game.
Overall, I'd say don't buy this game if you don't want to waste 60 dollars. I'd wait until it gets cheaper, and then buy it at like 40 dollars or 35 dollars. It's just not worth buying a glitchy and unpolished game, I'd even consider Assassin's Creed 4 Black Flag much better than this game by a lot.

At launch the game had its many problems. There is no denying that. But in the months since, the game has been patched and runs excellently.
The story is interesting, and the gameplay is exactly what you would expect from the series. Pure fun. I do wish there was a little more present day story, but for years ubisoft has had to deal with players complaining that they didn't want any modern day stuff. So here we have it. Hopefully Ubisoft turns that back around. Aside from that, Unity is gorgeous. Possibly the prettiest game I have ever played. The crowd sizes are insane and the vistas as breathtaking.

The missions here are some of the most fun compared to previous games (i.e. limited tailing). However, the terrible controls of your character begin to test your patience before you finish the game. He jumps (and doesn't jump) where you don't want him to and he climbs objects that makes no sense, this ruins the "stealth" component of the game. If you can bear with erratic controls, the game is otherwise good. The graphics are incredible and their are TONS of missions to do.

The visuals of the game are just stunningly gorgeous. The crowd graphics are amazing and it's fun to watch the French Revolution happening around you.
The fighting system is much improved. The skill points are a bit frustrating as it seems to take forever to gain skill points. Upgrading each individual piece of armor is fun and it's astounding how many different options there are.
The game does have the typical glitches that an Assassin's Creed game has. He will climb something when you don't want him to or he won't jump down when you want him to, etc.

Warning - you will need to patch this game using the online patch on your console of choice. The first "Current Gen" AC game hit some road bumps along the way, resulting in a game that needs a serious patch to fix some major issues. A nice 3rd person action title with stealth elements as well, this game, once patched, is not a bad addition to the AC series legacy. But without the patch, you will likely encounter some strange issues. Nothing that breaks the game, but it will complicate your game play experience.

I have played this game from the original release date on X-Box One, and loved it. I got a copy for my Brother to enjoy on PS4. There were a few (A LOT) of bugs early on, but they have done a great jobs sending out updates to solve those issues. The story line is outstanding, and the online multi-player is a great change from the normal PvP's you see in most games. I always wondered how awesome it would be to have 4 assassins running around to accomplish a mission, and now I know... AMAZING!
I highly recommend this one for the Assassins Creed inthusiast, or first time player. The story did a wonderful job of progressing what I had thought would have been a dead story line. This is a good game for a first time player in the fact that you don't need the whole back story to be able to enjoy the current game. If you are just curious, then I would recommend picking up the whole series (Although this may take a few different consoles to accomplish).

I've been playing assassins creed since the beginning, and have always loved the franchise. I was so excited when this was announced because of the French Revolution period. All in all though, it really fell short of my expectations. Some of the new features are good, but the bad overshadows the good at a lot of points.
