The USABLE budget laptop champion!

I reviewed the prior version of this laptop that was, for all intents and purposes, exactly the same as this machine with the exception that the new, speedier Intel Celeron N6000 processor is contained in this laptop. That is only a good thing as this laptop remains incredibly efficient but also has more power to make multitasking and doing productivity tasks on this laptop feel smoother than ever. I rated this laptop’s predecessor as a 5 out of 5 usable budget laptop with perfect utility for young students with non-power tasks on their laptop and for casual users performing simple daily tasks like answering emails, browsing the internet, and doing basic Word, Excel, and PowerPoint-type tasks. This laptop also takes the gold for that category in this price range, with the added benefit of being even snappier than before!
Operating System:
This PC is equipped with Windows 11 S edition, which is essentially a lightweight, Windows-app only version of Windows 11 that will truly work just fine for the majority of basic users who aren’t wanting to fiddle around with a bunch of novel software installs. You get your basics here: a Microsoft Edge web browser, Microsoft Office products like Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and other apps available and/or preinstalled in the Microsoft Apps store. I think this is perfect for users who aren’t looking for all the bells and whistles and are happy to use Microsoft Edge for web browsing and checking email, as well as whatever programs are available natively through Windows. If you really want full featured Windows 11, you can get into the Windows store settings and switch out of Windows 11 S into normal Windows 11 Home, just have caution that this laptop model does only have 64GB of storage and you will quickly run out of room (and speed) if you try to load this up with too many programs. If you are or your child are in need of Google Chrome for Google University and apps, you will need to switch this laptop to Windows 11 Home to be able to install Google Chrome onto the laptop. Just note, that switching out of Windows S mode to regular Home is a one way street, you can’t switch back (not that you’d want to, I think).
Set up:
This laptop, to the shock of no one who is familiar with budget PCs with Windows 11 loaded on it, takes a long time to get through its initial booting processes, updates, and setups. Gratefully, though, it is faster than its predecessor; it took about 45 minutes to get this laptop up and running from out of the box! While this is still slow, I have had this experience with multiple other budget Windows machines I have reviewed, and that is just the way it is when you are dealing with lower-end hardware that runs such a bloated and poorly optimized OS like a factory Windows 11 install. Just get your laptop plugged in, boot it up, and put your favorite show in the background on your TV for a couple of episodes while you wait on this machine to go through its steps for set up. Additionally, when it seems to be done updating, make sure to go into settings and click on the Windows update icon in the top right corner of that screen to make sure you check and install for any more updates. This is, unfortunately, what you must deal with on almost any Windows 11 OS laptop these days.
Regular use:
Overall, I think this laptop is unequivocally perfect for basic users. What do I mean when I keep saying, basic users? What I mean is, people who are only opening this laptop up to do a few basic tasks at a time, like browse the web, check their emails, type up a Word document, work on an Excel spreadsheet, maybe play some Solitaire built into the computer, haha! The important qualifier in this use case, is that you, the user, MUST have excellent “computer hygiene”. What I mean by this is that you must close programs you are not using in order to avoid slowdowns and program stutters. This is due to the fact of what I talked about earlier, this laptop has very little RAM (Random Access Memory) and cannot keep multiple programs open and running smoothly at a time because of it. So, with whatever you are doing on this laptop, expect to have to keep browser tab counts down and to have to close programs you aren’t using. You will be less frustrated and enjoy a much smoother experience on this machine!
Build Quality:
This laptop's build quality utterly belies what its price tag says. It is actually an admirably well-built machine. It is, for one, very lightweight and thin. It measures on my scale a few hairs under 3 pounds in weight and is 3/4 of an inch thick at its thickest point. It is a little thicker and wider than a current generation Apple MacBook Pro 14 for comparison, but half a pound lighter! I think aged users who are tired of carrying around bulky, hot machines are going to be happy with this laptop. It is gentle on the body to use and gentle on the budget too. More on the build quality is a metal keyboard deck and lid with an otherwise plastic housing construction. Truly not bad!
Keyboard:
This laptop sports a solid and comfortable keyboard deck and keycaps that offer a great typing experience. The keyboard is not backlit, which is a bit of a bummer, but at this price, I don’t think anyone can complain. I love typing on this keyboard; it feels like a simple scissor-switch membrane-style keyboard, which is perfect for most users. The only thing I have come to realize after reviewing this laptop and its predecessor is that I really don’t love the layout Home, PgUp, PgDn, End, and FN keys taking up an entire row at the far right of the keyboard deck. This shifts all your familiar typing keys to the left of the center, and as a result, I continuously find myself hitting Home when I try to hit backspace. This isn’t the worst thing, and I do believe one can grow used to it, but I just want to mention it here to be thorough.
Webcam:
The equipped webcam is a barebones 1280x720 resolution webcam, with 0.92 megapixels, that can still be called “HD”, but just barely. It has a very slow frame rate of 8FPS, but it seems to get the job done. There is no physical shutter for the webcam; it is just one that is software-based and triggered by pressing F10. There is also a white indicator light at the top of the laptop frame next to the webcam aperture hole that shines brightly if your webcam is on. I am going to say that I am just happy there is a webcam here, and it looks better than a potato! I would say it is even on par if not better than a webcam on a $1000 Dell laptop I tried recently!
Display:
The display here is excellent for a budget laptop! It is a full HD resolution 1920X1080p display running at 60hz. Translation: for a budget laptop, you are not getting a crappy-looking display. It displays YouTube videos and picture content nicely and gets nice and bright for working in brighter environments like out on a coffee shop patio. The lay-flat display may be nice for some, but I personally have never seen the utility in a laptop screen that lays totally flat, so I am not losing my mind over this feature. Altogether, it is an excellent full HD display for this budget laptop!
Battery:
As expected, the battery life on this laptop is pretty decent, with lower-end and lower-power internals! My projections are showing about seven hours of sustained multitasking use at 40% brightness on the “balanced” in the Windows power settings. I think this is reasonable and far exceeds the laptops of even half a decade ago in this price range. It charges via a proprietary charger barrel port and does NOT charge via the USB-C port included on the laptop. I understand that Asus would want to keep costs down on such a budget laptop, but it is still nice to have power delivery through a USB-C port available for versatility when on the go.
Opening up the laptop:
I got peppy and decided to open up this laptop to see what is inside the guts of it. Take a look at the pictures! What I found is a highly organized and not overstuffed internal configuration, complete with soldered-on RAM (bummer), a cute lil’ 64GB eMMC storage module, a user-replaceable single antenna Wifi card, and an extremely sturdy and nicely thermal pasted CPU heat sink! I was impressed by this. I really think there could have been room in here for user replaceable RAM, so that is a bummer that means you are stuck with the amount of RAM that you buy this with. However, I found something quite interesting in the motherboard… what appears to be an M.2 slot complete with a full-sized mounting screw position for a M.2 SSD! So, if you or your kid are tech savvy, they might enjoy the ease of opening this laptop up and installing an M.2 SSD to transfer the OS onto in order to gain more storage and faster boot speeds of varying programs. This laptop was really easy to get into with Philips head screws, and the bottom popped off with just a little jostling from a gift card in a couple of spots near the hinges. If only this laptop had replaceable RAM, I would be losing my mind with excitement! But it is still excellent and speaks to being future-proof for easy battery replacements, too.
Stats:
Speedometer 2.1 score: 98.9. This is an almost 10-point increase from the prior processor-containing model and is part of why web browsing and web apps feel snappier. This is definitely a win!
Speedometer 3.0 (a newer and more intense web apps stress test): 5.77 (not an excellent result, but reasonable for a laptop in this price range)
Overall, I would retain this laptop as a 5 out of 5 stars, but I would give it 4.5 out of 5 if it was an option because, truly, in Quarter 4 of 2024, there should be no more laptops or computers with 4 GB of RAM as the minimum spec in my opinion. It is time for companies to face the fact that the demands of modern computing have gotten far too intense for a mere 4gb of RAM to handle masterfully. At the very least, there should be options for adding additional RAM given how much space is in this chassis.

Not every laptop needs to be a powerhouse for gaming or creative output, sometimes you just need a keyboard to take on the go. That’s where computers like the Asus 14” UHD come in, a simple productivity focused and portable laptop. In the box you get the laptop, the charging cord, and some documentation to get you started…everything you need and nothing you don't. The laptop is small but not tiny which makes it light and very comfortable to take on the go and it features an HDMI port, a headphone/mic jack, a USB-C port, and two USB-A ports (one is the older USB-A 2.0 and the other is USB-A 3.2). Your only storage hardware is a 64gb flash hard drive, the diagram in the owners manual shows an SD slot on the side but it must be on another model as there’s nowhere for an SD or microSD to insert. The three USB generational ports will allow for thumb drives or external storage but a way to expand storage with SD or M2 would have been nice.
My laptop came out of the box needing to be charged, it only took a couple hours, then I was able to start my journey with the Windows setup process. My first red flag with this laptop was the “Getting things ready” screen where Windows prepares to load the desktop which usually takes a minute or two. My laptop took almost five minutes to get things ready, that’s a really long time before anything but a few settings have been loaded onto the computer.
After I finally got the laptop charged and booted up to the desktop I took it for a test drive, doing some emails, spreadsheet budgeting, and typing up some things for work. Nothing strenuous, I didn’t even have music playing in another tab, but I found that it would drop performance off and on: mouse losing “frame rate” and jumping across the screen instead of sliding as I moved my finger, windows would take a couple extra seconds to pop open….things like that. With a productivity laptop in this price point this shouldn’t be a deal breaker but its worth mentioning. However, the one thing I do think should give you pause if this is the right laptop for you is the interesting decision to put the num pad on the mouse pad. This means that you can use the laptop’s track pad “normally” or push the NUM button on the pad and it becomes a 10-Key number pad. This is a cool feature, since I prefer to use a number pad than the keys along the top of the keyboard, but having to push the track pad on and off to navigate websites or documents is annoying. Maybe using it for extended time would make it like a second nature or more integrated into your work flow but I found it to be tedious personally.
There’s not much else to say, the battery lasts a decent amount of time which is nice. The ports and on both sides which is again a luxury some laptops don’t offer. I found the volume of the speakers to be plenty loud enough to watch videos or stream movies on and the brightness could slide from too dark to see anything to burning my retinas bright. You’ll be able to pack this little guy into just about any bag you take with you and get work done on the go…if you don’t mind constant periodic lags and frame rate loss. The price is right for simple productivity but that price point also puts you into a position of having to accept a less smooth user experience.

This is a perfectly fine laptop computer with a few features that one should note.
It is small, with only a 14" FHD (Full High Definition—meaning the same resolution as on your HDTV at 1920 x 1080 pixels.) screen. The screen image is excellent. It is bright with sharp text and images. With the Intel Pentium processor and 4GB of RAM, software and web pages load quickly.
It comes with the Windows S operating system. In S mode, you stay within the Microsoft Store universe as far as applications like browsers, word processors, and so forth. The idea is that security is enhanced when all of the software on the machine is from a single, well-secured source. Of course, this means that you can’t install something like Chrome as your browser. Microsoft’s browser, Edge, is perfectly fine and runs the same under the hood as Chrome, so your decision.
If you do exit S mode, like the Burt Lancaster character at the end of the movie Field of Dreams, where he steps off the baseball field to help the young girl who is choking and in the process turns from a young kid wearing a baseball uniform back into the elderly doctor, you can’t go back. I have used S Mode computers before, and I have generally ended up exiting the mode because there is pretty much always some piece of software I use all the time for with there is no equivalent available from the Microsoft store. By being careful, and with the large number of excellent anti-virus software options out there, I’ve never had a problem with computer security resulting from exiting S Mode.
A new feature that I’ve not seen before that I think is a great idea and that I’m surprised we’ve not seen before now is that the touchpad can be toggled to be two other devices, a number pad that is typically not a available on a laptop and a calculator. The pad actually has the layout of a number pad on it (numbers, +, -, and = keys, and so forth). Switching it on, which is done by pressing the switch in the top right corner of the pad, turns it into a number pad. Pressing down on the on/off switch and then swiping with the same finger brings up a calculator right on the computer’s display. To use the calculator, however, you need to either turn the pad back into a touchpad and move the pointer around to select a calculator key or connect an external mouse.
In fact, I always connect an external mouse to a laptop because I’ve never been a big fan of touchpads. Remember that, if you switch the touchpad to a number pad or calculator, it is no longer a touchpad, so an external mouse is almost a necessity. You can, of course, start the calculator and then convert the pad back to a touchpad to be able to move the cursor around and actually use the calculator.
It really isn’t all that difficult to use the computer without a mouse, and I have to say that having a calculator so handy is quite a plus. I work with spreadsheets and financial figures regularly, and I’m always reaching for the little TI calculator I’ve had for probably 20 years, so having a calculator so easily available right there on the computer is a big plus for me. As I said, I’m surprised someone didn’t think of this long ago.
The computer itself is stylish, with large, comfortable keys. It’s small size makes it great for travel as it will fit easily in pretty much any computer case or backpack. Coupled with the very competitive price, this would make a great computer for a student or anyone who needs portable computing capability.

A Sufficient, Light Laptop for Home or Office

ASUS 14" FHD Laptop - Intel Pentium N6000 with 4GB Memory - 64GB
I've had numerous Windows laptops for almost forty years and have had seven or eight different brands. I received this laptop knowing my wife could use a mobile laptop when she does her work at home or on the road. I knew the specs on this PC were not very powerful but for her it seems to fit the bill.
The spec you can see in my title which are nothing to brag about but for someone who is going to use it for web browsing and word processing it is certainly sufficient.
I will share what we really like about this PC:
Mobility
The PC is thin and extremely light and has a small footprint.
Keyboard:
The key press is soft and silent and easy to the touch.
The letters shown on the keys are large.
The enter key is smaller than why I am used but is highlight with a bright border.
The mouse pad also serves as a numeric pad though I don't know who well it works.
Ports
For a PC this size it is installed with a good set of ports
2 USB 1 USB-C HDMI Microphone
Software
Microsoft Office 365 is installed and available on this laptop. This provides MS office products via the internet. With internet access you do not have to purchase or install MS Office.
I believe this is a well-made and thought-out laptop. It's not a heavy hitter but works very well with a web browser and the Web Office apps installed. It is an excellent product for light office work and web browsing.

I have to say, the design of this laptop is surprisingly nice for a laptop called “model E410KA-PM464.” (bleep boop) It's lightweight and portable, which is perfect for someone who needs to move around a lot. The lid is nice, making it look like a more expensive laptop. Plus, the hinge allows the screen to fold back 180 degrees, which is needed and adds to its ability to combat damage on the road. The plastic of the case is lighter duty and is appropriate for the value point ASUS is trying to make.
Performance-wise, the Pentium N6000 processor paired with 4GB of RAM handles everyday tasks like web browsing, streaming, and word processing without much fuss. It's not a powerhouse, but for light use, it gets the job done. The difference between this one and the Celeron version is TWO MORE CORES to make 4 cores and 4 threads. Totally worth it. For web browsing in particular, you wouldn’t be able to tell between this and a more expensive laptop if your internet connection is strong. The 64GB eMMC storage is somewhat slow compared to the majority of NVMe SSDs, but is again appropriate for this level; It’s really not bad for most office productivity and I didn’t think I needed more power for these types of tasks. Youtube, Office 365, Google Docs... they all worked fine on this laptop.
4GB of RAM is super skinny for any real multitasking, however, so if you get this, you should keep the amount of open browser tabs contained or Chrome/Edge by itself will slow down a lot.
The display is full HD, which is great for watching videos. It’s fairly good with decent color rendition. The Intel UHD graphics is well supported and can even play a few pixel based games. Viewing angles aren't the best, however. I think this is a TN panel. The keyboard is comfortable enough for typing sessions, and I appreciate the quirky yellow Enter key that makes it easy to spot. I wouldn’t mind seeing something like this again.
One of my least favorite features is the trackpad that doubles as a number pad. It's a neat trick that saves space but I lost a lot of accuracy. I am a real 10 key typist, and just need the tactile of a real pad. Thank goodness for external ones. Unlike some of the other ASUS laptops with this feature, the number pad is printed on the trackpad, which can be annoying if you never intend to use the feature.
Battery life is solid; I got through 6 hours of YouTube without needing to recharge If I did some battery management or lowered my screen brightness, I might have gone longer. Taking this to a coffee shop with no adapter is a very safe proposition.
Overall, if you need an affordable laptop for simple tasks and portability is key, the ASUS E410KA-CL464 is worth it for the price. Just be prepared to manage your storage because 64G is skinny!

I was a little taken aback to find that this Asus netbook featured both fantastic and incredibly frustrating capabilities. I had assumed it would be on par with, if not better than, a typical laptop, or at worst, better than a watered-down version. However, the fact that it was functional in certain places and defective in others made me both joyful and sad.
The netbook is quite lightweight, and unlike other laptops, it has a nice AC plug that is easy to replace and won't damage a USB-C port. It features good speakers, a fair screen size, and an HDMI output connector for access to an external monitor. The activation button on the touchpad mouse area, which activates a numeric keypad with data entery capabilities, is one element that particularly sticks out.
Two significant disadvantages are that the keyboard is gray on black with no backlighting, which makes it quite hard for an elderly person like me to see, and it lacks a touch screen, which is something I kind of expected from portable laptops these days. Although this might not be a problem for most people, it is for me, and if I ever wanted to offer this to customers, I would have trouble using this aspect of the machine because my clientele are elderly.
Unlike many other portable computers or tablets this netbook is not designed specifically for social media games or Google Apps. It has the diversity to be used for work social media and with the Microsoft apps and Microsoft Office covers a great many bases in a more professional fashion than expected.
It is nice, and I would recommend it, but I can't give it a five-star rating because it lacks basic features. I look forward to using it during the day by connecting it to an HDMI monitor, which would make the keys easier to read. Since I still have fairly decent typing skills, it could be used as a backup support or a specialized tool for a certain task, like using Microsoft Office or even flipping screens to watch a movie while my desktop is buried in calculations and rendering operations.
It’s everything you need in a computer. And enough connection power and options online and or average gaming pursuits, And add an affordable cost, which makes it a machine worth looking at for all your needs.

Cost effective check.
Simple setup check.
Long battery life check.
Windows based check.
Office Suite check.
So Asus's budget laptop is great for students and simple home or small office use.
Only apps that can be loaded are that from Microsoft store. I tried to load another software that does bench marking but it didn't let me. I knew it wouldn't but I tried anyway.
Internet speed was decent up and down. Office Suite is always useful and handy.
USB two of them, micro USB, and HDMI plugs are available for use.
Screen resolution is ok. The only issue I have with similar products are that theses screens have a white ting so it kind of has a hazy appearance to it. I also wished it had an micro SD card and a bit more memory because after updating and doing all the setup I only had 36 GB left to use. So you can't use this for photos or videos and all.
The touch mouse is REALLY the highlight of this product...... It is basically a 10 key pad that is great!
Anyway this budget laptop makes the cut for budget laptop and form basic uses.

I cannot, in good conscience, recommend this laptop.
For the price, it's pretty tempting. It costs less than a lot of Chromebooks, and it has Windows 11. It's 14 inches, has a cool touchpad number pad thing, and it looks pretty sleek. Even though it only has 64 gigs of storage and 4 gigs of RAM, at least you can download and install whatever apps you want, which makes it way better than a Chromebook, right?
Let's get into that.
Look, Feel, Build Quality:
As far as how it LOOKS, I'd say it's lovely. The lid is this shade of black that almost looks like it has a blue tinge to it, it's decently thin, and for the size, it's not very heavy. There's no deck flex either, so typing or resting your wrists doesn't feel spongy. That said, it feels a little... chintzy. It's pretty hollow feeling, like there's not much inside, and the plastic doesn't feel the nicest. That said, for $160, it's hard to complain.
Keyboard:
This keyboard is pretty good feeling! The keys are pretty tactile, and not spongy at all. On a first try, my WPM was 71, which is a little lower than my average, but not by too much.
One small complaint though - the backspace key is a little smaller than a standard one, and on the right of it is a home key. I keep accidentally pressing it when I'm trying to delete text and it sends the cursor to the first position of the textbox. Minor quirk, no biggie.
Sound:
It's an inexpensive laptop. They're tinny, they're quiet, they work. Nothing to write home about, but nothing to complain about, either.
Screen:
So here, we definitely see where some corners were cut for the price. The matte screen has some of the worst viewing angles I've ever seen on a laptop, and even when you're dead on, the colors are washed out and lifeless. It's hard to feel like you're looking at it correctly ever because of how bad the viewing angles are. That said, it's an HD display, and for the price, I can't complain.
Performance:
Here's where the fun begins.
This is equipped with a Pentium N6000 - it's got 4 cores, 4 threads, and it's clocked at around 1.1 gigahertz. It's not fast. It's got 4 gigs of RAM, which hasn't been adequate for Windows since 10 was brand new. It chugs. Opening anything - a browser, a new tab, a website, is slow. But it goes deeper - opening settings can lag and take a few seconds. Clicking anywhere in settings can take a few seconds and lag. Long story short, you're going to deal with lag no matter what you do.
But it's Windows, so you have lots of options for things, right? You can use a different browser than Edge, you can download some software and use it as an offline machine, so you have plenty of options, right?
Wrong.
This laptop ships in S mode - it's designed for "security and performance," they say. What this means is that you can't download any applications from a browser. You can't install Firefox or Chrome, you can't install Scrivener or Audacity, it will not let you do that. If you want anything that's not included with the computer, you must download it from the Microsoft store, which severely limits your options.
You ARE able to take it out of S mode, but you can't go back to S mode once you do. I didn't want to test it out of S mode because I was worried the performance would suffer too much and render the laptop effectively unusable.
This thing will work for the most basic of web browsing, but only barely. There are far better options out there.
Upgradability:
It seems silly, but upgradability on a laptop can drastically improve the lifespan of the device. Something as simple as extra RAM or an SSD can breathe new life into an old or underperforming device. Another 4 gigs of RAM in this would probably make it pretty decent, right?
It's not upgradable, at all. There is nowhere to put another SSD, there is nowhere to put RAM, there's no way to do much of anything. What you see is what you get. Those of you with a keen eye may notice an open M.2 slot on the motherboard. Alas, there is no opening on the motherboard to screw it down, unless it's under the heat shield/spreader, which would be unwise to tamper with, given that this device only has passive cooling. There are no fans.
Final thoughts:
I have a 2014 Macbook Air. Despite the fact that it's a decade old, it has 8 gigs of RAM, 256 of storage, and much, much faster performance. (It's impressive how fast it is, given the age!) It looks sleek, has a backlit keyboard, and a crisp, clear, colorful display. You can download Mac compatible software from the robust app store AND from online, even if the older Mac OS version limits you a bit. You can even emulate PS2 on it pretty well! You can purchase one readily on eBay for $90-$100.
You can purchase a brand new Chromebook for a little more than this costs, get the same (if not better) functionality, and much faster performance.
I'm certain you could install Linux on this, but that's not my wheelhouse - I couldn't tell you how viable this would be for it.
This is manufactured e-waste. This isn't a very useful device to have, especially since you don't even get the flexibility of Windows out of the box. I can't recommend purchasing this laptop. Please, get almost anything else.

been using this Asus laptop for a week and I always find these laptop a perfect starter laptop for someone whose maybe not very familiar or whose new to using a computer, specially these days even school laptops are even more common more than it has ever been, and for the price fthis Asus laptop is a perfect laptop to buy and start enjoying windows 11 for work and browsing.
DEVICE
this an entry level laptop that’s equipped with Intel Pentium processor, with 4GB of Ram and 64 Gb eMMC storage. 14 inch screen size, with the resolution of 1920x1080 HD. the 4GM might be a bit small when it comes to opening multiple browser luckily im never a type to keep more than 3 browser active but for those who likes to have 10 tabs active , yeah you might experience some slow down. also storage aint much either but external storage is been around so would cheaper to get an external hardrive if you need more space. this laptop looks great it’s fairly slim enough to fit in backpacks. overall the laptop looks slick the trackpad also has a number pad option printed, the keys are sound’s are good enough for the quality. didn’t notice any issue with the screen great colors with no deformity.
CONCLUSION
This Asus laptop is something to consider, it has great battery life. it’s great for teenagers or a great starter laptop for any ages. again 4GB of ram does limits you and 64Gb of space, but again for the price and it’s currently on sale you can’t complain much, you will end up with the same specs on most pc for the budget value you are looking for. I recommend this for light use. don’t expect to game much on this laptop maybe browser games that’s about it. overall this a perfect beginner laptop is how I like to call it.

INEXPENSIVE GOOD LITTLE LAPTOP

With the holidays coming and being in need of a good little laptop that inexpensive that does a lot of things good. This ASUS 14” FHD Laptop was great to cover all of the basics. I needed something that was light weight compact and this fit that profile. I needed something that could handle task like media play and word processing and this little laptop didn’t let me down. My last need was for it to be inexpensive and the price of this blew me away.
Set up just like any of the new laptops is extremely simple and can be done by anyone with the slightest computer knowledge. The ASUS 14” FHD laptop walks you through the complete setup process from start to finish. Then entire setup process took me approx. 30 minutes. Just remember before starting the process charge your laptop battery completely.
My kid needed something that was easily carried while in college that was compact and light. So, at 14 inches this ASUS laptop was a great place to start. It easily fits in a back pack and with it being light weight its effortlessly transported. The size helps it fit in small spaces and areas. To add, a laptop with such dimensions it has a number pad integrated into it.
The ASUS 14” FHD has a nice vivid screen that displays played media very well. Watching lectures and doing research has been a breeze using this laptop. It navigates web pages with ease and the key spacing on the keyboard is very comfortable to use while typing. The only issue, if you can call it an issue this day and age, is the lack of drive storage space. At 64g that’s not much space at all, it was easily nullified through the use of cloud storage and an external SSD. The benefit to using the external SSD and cloud is the ability to access your files on other computers.
My final need was for the laptop to be inexpensive. This ASUS, in my opinion, is affordable for just about any budget. It gives me a peace of mind know that if anything happens to this laptop unexpectedly, I can easily replace it. For those times when accidents happen, and we all know they do, replacement won’t break the bank.
This laptop covered all of bases. I needed it to be light weight, had good power and is low budget. This ASUS 14” FHD is perfect. I 100 percent recommend this laptop. But if you require more internal storage then this isn’t for you. As for me, this ASUS laptop is perfect.

Budget Minded Laptop

There are some who may give this product a lesser rating because of the specification. My approach to this review is the specifications are as designed at what was purchased.
My opinion is this is a budget-minded laptop that performs well. If you are looking for something robust, this is not for you. If you are looking for something for email, web surfing and documents, this is a great budget minded laptop.
First, set up was easy. While it took over an hour, this is not an Asus issue, its how windows works and is deployed. There are many updates and that takes time.
The ASUS 14" FHD Laptop - Intel Pentium N6000 looks and feels great. I was able to surf the internet, create a work document, and check email. Start-up is fairly fast. I absolutely love the touchpad that has a numeric function to it. I have never seen this before and it is genius.
I personally don’t like the EMMC instead of the hard drive. What this does is it give you space for an operating system and some apps. The size is small, so you won’t be able to store large document, files, videos or photos here. You will need an external device or could. With that said, I was fully aware of this when selecting this laptop.
If you are budget-minded and don’t have a lot to spend on a computer or you need typical simple features, this is for you. Given how it is advertised, the speed and function, I don’t think you will find anything better for the money.

I give the Asus 14” FHD laptop kudos for its compact size and weight, for having a traditional AC style adapter (keeping the USB-C port clear), and having a HDMI port. Other than that, though, it’s a struggle to find the positives in having this laptop, unless it’s the price that drives you. And believe it or not, I’m usually an Asus fan.
Out of the box, it was 70 percent charged so I was able to get started with set up. It comes with Windows 11 and unfortunately, runs in S-mode. If you don’t know, S-mode makes it virtually impossible to add programs or apps unless it’s one that’s in Microsoft’s app store. The laptop needed to update, which even plugged in, took about 36 minutes and what seems to be a lot of memory. Even after updating, it takes more seconds than I would like to even open the Windows log-in screen.
As for operations, it performs almost as slow as molasses, especially if you have more than one window open at a time. With 4GB of RAM (and no way to expand it) and 64GB of storage, it’s barely enough to run a chunky operating system like Windows 11 and Microsoft programs, so I guess I really shouldn’t be surprised that the laptop bogs down and lags so easily. And having the 10-key number pad on the mouse pad is just plain annoying. Who wants to have to keep toggling the Num Lock on and off to use the mouse pad? Not me.
This is definitely a laptop for someone who doesn’t need to multi-task on it or that only wants to do some very light web browsing from time to time. I can’t even recommend it as an entry level one for students given that most of the schools use Google Classroom or other web-based curriculum programs. My advice would be to spend a little more money on one with either more memory or more adaptability.

Basic lightweight laptop for web browsing and productivity apps. Good value for the price paid, but wish it had 8GB of RAM and a more modern processor.

For the price, this is a great laptop. It’s not a Chromebook, and at this price!!! The computer is fast but obviously the RAM and Storage is not incredible, but at this price, get some an external Hard Drive and there you go. I am reviewing this at 4 out of 5 stars based on the fact that this is a windows laptop for about $120. Of course it’s not a game changer and the only thing I can complain about is that the keys are not backlit. Are there better laptops? Yes. Is this one amazing? No. But at the $120 price, this laptop is incredible, perfect for watching shows, doing homework, checking emails… I used mine to program and map LED walls for work and it was beyond perfect. I had no issues and I wasn’t obsessing over keeping my computer with me every time I left the room because I want leaving my MacBook Pro behind. So if you need a computer for school, or situations where you won’t freak out if you lose or break your device, this is perfect. Pentium chip, not a Chromebook, $120. 4 out of 5 stars.

This is similar to other ASUS low end laptops but with the N6000 processor. Although the picture shows a micro sd card slot, it does not have one. The ram is soldered and can not be upgraded. It is fanless. It comes with an nvme m.2 socket which has speeds of 2.2 GB/s and can be used as a boot drive which is probably the best way to run Windows rather than with the 64 GB eMMC storage. The onboard storage ran at approximately 300 MB/s read and 70 MB/s write.
It runs linux without any obvious problems.
Overall a nice low end device for limited duty such as field use, home server, or single purpose. I bought mine at $140 which is a very good value if it meets your needs.

I bought this ASUS 14" laptop as a lightweight, affordable option for basic tasks—and it delivers exactly that. The Full HD screen is sharp and bright, which is a nice surprise at this price point. It handles web browsing, streaming, and document editing without any issues.
The Intel Pentium N6000 isn't built for heavy multitasking or gaming, but for casual use, it gets the job done smoothly. The 4GB of RAM and 64GB eMMC storage are a bit limiting, so I added cloud storage and a microSD card to expand the space, which helped a lot.
Battery life is decent—I can get about 6 to 8 hours on a single charge with light use. The build quality feels solid, and the Star Black finish gives it a sleek, modern look.
Overall, if you're looking for an affordable laptop for school, travel, or light work, this is a great choice. Just know its limits and you won't be disappointed.
