Fastest Laptop with Slowest Hard Drive

Great Laptop with Worst HDD. Do not buy it if you don't know how to install a NVME M.2 SSD. its super easy. Just have to remove the back cover and there is available free slot for it. I bought a Samsung EVO 970 250GB @ $79.99 only and added it and reinstall the OS to the SSD. Boot time now less than 5 sec. Check the performance screenshot. Very happy with the performance now. Best laptop ever, with lowest price. You can keep the 2GB HDD as the 2nd HDD for storage.

This laptop is awesome when it comes to running games. I play city simulator games as well as Sims 4 and my HP laptop didn’t handle them well. This one handles them perfectly. Plus it’s lightweight and then.

Upgrade to SSD for minimum performance

When I first bought this laptop the updates took a long time. I was out of town on slow wifi so i dismissed it. After I got home on my home network it was still updating. Way too slow. I figured after the updates, all would be well. Nope. Startup and operation were SLOW. Minimal info on the ASUS website as to what upgrade options are left me uncertain but I cracked the case open and saw the M.2 SSD slot. There is MINIMAL information online if this is possible to upgrade to. I took a chance and got a Samsung 970 EVO nvme m.2 500GB drive and installed it. ASUS should never degrade their brand image but putting such a slow HHD in any system. The new samsung v-nand SSD reduced boot time from 1:20 sec to 5 SECONDS! If you bought one of these with the 2 TB drive, do yourself a favor and GET A SSD

This is not the best laptop at this price, however 16 GB RAM and i7 make this machine very powerful. HDD with 5200 rpm causes the laptop to perform poorly and most of the times the disk utilization is at 100%, when you are doing some I/O intensive task. Be aware, initial Windows 10 update will take around 10-14 hrs and laptop would be too slow during this time. Touchscreen is good and responsive. Some strange issue with Wi-Fi connectivity, when it's unable to find any network. Faced this almost 4-5 times in a month. Googled it, and this appears to be due to Windows 10. No back-lit keyboard. Battery - charge lasts for around 5-6 Hours so far, which is not great but works for me. The best part is, smaller charger which resembles Cell phone charger. Easy to carry. Overall, a nice laptop.

I am writing this review after using this laptop for more than two months. I was planning to purchase new laptop as my old laptop which was Dell XPS L502X which I purchased in 2011 has become very slow . After searching online and going through all option I decided to go for Asus this time instead of Dell. I checked Best Buy and decided to buy Asus Q525UA , going through all the review customer had posted here about this laptop being slow and having 2 TB Sata HDD and no SSD . I would like to share the steps I did from beginning. I started the laptop and without installing antivirus I installed windows critical update so the load on HDD will be less and trust me that works wonder as my system boot time is 7 seconds and that is without any SSD . Touch screen is really nice and sound of this system is awesome. I am using MS office ,Adobe photoshop with Chrome for browsing and multi tasking is very smooth.I get battery life of around 7 hours. Backlight keyboard is also nice and bright. This laptop is really nice after using Dell for long time I switched to Asus and I am happy with my purchase .

    Horrible ALL Around

First off - I gave this item the benefit of the doubt and disregarding all the warnings. BIG Mistake. I received the item on Tuesday and between a span of just 48 hours, I returned this to the store and will never buy ASICS again. When I was doing the initial set up and downloads, MANY of them failed, so I had to go online and search for the Files to Manuelly download them myself. The laptop would freeze if there were more than 2 chrome tabs open. I would have to literally do a hard rest because I couldn’t even access anything on the screen. Soon - my toolbar stopped working. It would register that I was touching it, but would not bring up any content. So I literally had to search up every app i wanted to open. When I brought it to work on Thursday, I became aware that I was UNABLE to connect to any WiFi besides the one that I had at home which was originally done two days prior. The laptop would not identify new networks. I brought my laptop to geek squad after work and they told me that even if they fixed the laptop, the same issues would likely come back in a few months. Because it was a literally 2 day old laptop, they just recommended that i returned it and got another product. Would 0/5 if possible.

    Great 15" Laptop for Non-Gamers

Pros: 1. Small Footprint: Given the relatively narrow bezel, this 15" laptop is thinner and more compact than those of recent years. 2. Full Keybaord: This model comes equipped with a full keyboard -- number pad included -- which produces very little noise. 3. Touchscreen Display: For those who like to ink their notes in MS OneNote, this display has you covered. Cons: 1. Display Resolution: I found the max resolution of 1080p (1920 x 1080) a bit disappointing, given my daily driver, a Surface Pro 3 purchased in 2014, is capable of displaying at 2160 x 1440. The issue here is clarity, especially when snapping multiple documents on the screen. 2. Storage: Out of the box this laptop runs terribly slow, given the limitations of its traditional non-SSD storage. Until you replace this drive with an SSD, expect this laptop's performance to tank, due to its inability to keep up with read/write demands.

I purchased this laptop based on the recommendation of salesperson after discussing my needs. I was looking for a powerful laptop that would run several graphics and designing programs, large screen with good picture to see details, have a lot of memory and long lasting battery. This model has been perfect. It has a quick response between programs, excellent screen and feels good to the touch. Also folds over flat to allow drawing like a tablet.

Took some time to get laptop set up and running. Not as easy as pulling it out of the box, power up and go. Had some set up time. Once it was all set up and updated it was good to go and has run well ever since. Downloaded Office 365. been very pleased with it's performance so far.

I was hoping this would work for what I needed it for, but it didn't support any of the products I bought it with, even though I talked to the specialist and said it did work. I bought this with intention to do animation work on it. I bought a Bamboo stylus with it and was told, before buying it, that it would be compatible with this product. I had to open up both products, turn them on, and actually play with them for an hour and trouble shoot over and over, just to find out they were not compatible to one another and wound up taking this back to get a computer within price range to get what I needed. If you are looking for something to pair with a bamboo stylus, this is not a good computer to do so. It WILL work on the basic setting, but you will not be able to access any of the bamboo settings or pressure sensitivity. However if you are looking for a fast, reliable, enjoyable experience with a computer, this is a good machine.

I do understand your disappointment and inconvenience if you are experiencing issue using a Stylus pen. To have a good experience using a Stylus pen, please make sure the pen is an active pen and it is working properly. I love this laptop for editing photos. It’s really fast and efficient with the photo editing programs I have. Also the touch screen using the bamboo ink stylus makes it so easy to use. Only downfall is that I don’t like the feel of the touch pad.

Bought for two elementary aged boys to use for school. The nature of the mobile processor may drive you crazy as it takes time to get up to the overdrive clock speeds, but for general use it works fine. Touch screen and windows ink are great. I am not sure if this would be a great work laptop, I still need to tweak it more. I did install Windows Pro and removed a lot of the pre-installed software and other bloat ware. I will give a good thrashing soon and then come back and update. Overall happy.

Yes, as I state this is a great computer. I have had it for under a month. It is fast, light and handle my online gaming just fine for not having dedicated RAM for the GPU. BUT, now this might just be localized to my unit, when I fold it into tablet mode the bezel around the left hinge separates a couple millimeters. This seems very wrong for the computer being less than a month old. I will be bringing it in for repair and I hope I don't get charged. The only other issue, that I really didn't notice until last week, is that there is NO RJ-145 port, only wireless NIC. This should not be too much of an issue because this computer has a thunderbolt port (USB C) which means I should be able to get some kind of a dock to plug in to it

The first laptop we picked up didn’t seem right right out of the box. It took a long time to get it set up and working and then lagged pretty badly. I took it back in and geek squad determined it was a lemon; the memory was showing max capacity. The manager swapped it out with a new laptop. We had a little trouble with that one but it was due to an add-on through Microsoft 10, which was causing the disk to run at about 90%, and was not an issue with the laptop itself. We’ve had that addressed, and it worked great now!

I bought this PC to replace a one year old Mac Pro which I consider to be a big mistake on my part. I took the advice of some friends and decided to try the Mac. The Mac is very expensive too. I just got tired of the backward approach to the interface and the sloppy handling of MS Office software. This PC is fast (get the SSD drive and keep only the operating system on it) and it'll remain fast. I don't like Apple's approach to keeping the user/owner out of the system and trying to do everything for you (sounds like the democrat agenda to me). I'm a computer tech. guy from my profession and hobby and do not appreciate this approach. Education is a better answer. But this is your typical nice to higher end PC. I like the portability of a laptop so I use it in my two homes as a desk top with portability. Works for me. I would buy this again. Only been a couple months but I'm happy so far.

This computer was purchased by shear accident, we thought it was a different one. Even though, it is nice and light, I still use my old one. The thin trim makes it easier to carry. Touch screen is a nice feature, but I do not use it much as I do not create a lot of graphics or artistry stuff. Unfortunately, it has no DVD/CD drive. The price was reasonable. I can say this would a be nice gift as a starter computer. I may have more to say, once I start using it more in the future.
