Please read and understand the specs really well before you decide between the different $200+ routers. This is dual band and can pump greater speeds than a tri-band... careful with the nomenclature here... 3100 dual band is much faster than 3200 tri-band. Now, let’s talk about features; this router has a great variety of cool features but the best of all is the OpenVPN, get this router just to play with this... You can stream games at 60fps from your power computer to your more mobile machine, or Remote Desktop to your home computer and use other local network resources by logging in to your own VPN

This router is great. Very easy to set up and use. And the speed and performance is awesom. I am so glad I got this router. I can have so many wifi cameras and laptops going at once with no buffering. Thanks for the great router.

I purchased two ASUS routers for my large home. They produce a strong adjustable signal by positioning the 4 antennas to optimize signal strength in certain areas of your home. I used a manual setup process and it was very easy. The ASUS Apple iPhone app seems to work great, but still learning it. I do not use the 5Ghz band, but have yet to figure out how to disable it. The ASUS routers replaced two Linksys WRT3200ACM routers. Linksys was not fixing issues with their routers and Linksys signal strength was marginal. I was having internet drops, insufficient buffering, printer connection issues, and Airprint issues with Linksys that I no longer have with ASUS.

Asus Routers are just getting better and better and this Router which I upgraded from a Netgear Router I got in 2012 I'm so glad I got this Asus Router. It's easy to setup, the four antennas make for excellent coverage all around the house you really can't go wrong with Asus Routers I highly recommend them and especially if your a gamer I do some online gaming and the stability through wi-fi is very good, yes it's a bit pricey but worth it for years to come.

I purchased this to replace a Linksys E4200. I was having problems with a Roku in the corner of my basement constantly buffering Hulu. My router was upstairs in a second floor office. Since I replaced the router with this one, it has been 2 weeks and I have yet to experience a buffering issue in the basement. It was very easy to set up, the monitoring tools are pretty cool in that I can see which devices have been using up the majority of the bandwidth and even which web sites these devices are visiting. I'm very impressed with how fast this router is. I have had 3 devices steaming hd at one time with an additional 4 devices connected using the internet without issues.

First let me say I'm no computer expert. I know enough to be dangerous. I bought this router to replace a netgear router I owned. I really thought this might increase my speed and Internet consistency. I haven't noticed either being better than what I had in the much less expensive Netgear router. Maybe it is a lot better and I just don't know enough to realize that, but in my opinion it works fine, just not amazingly enough to justify the cost.

    Great for CenturyLink fiber

I have gigabit fiber by CenturyLink, and I wanted a router to replace the one they provide. The trick with CL is you need a device that supports both PPPoE (most routers do) and also VLANs (many routers don't). This router supports both of those no problem. I get full speeds (920+ Mbps) over wired just like with my CL router. And I can get nearly 500 Mbps on Wifi with 802.11ac (this is on a $40 PC network card, possibly could get more with a better card). 2.4 Ghz works well too, my 4K TV only supports 2.4 Ghz Wifi and it has no problem streaming 4K videos. I have not noticed any disconnections of any kind so far, which occasionally did happen on my old CL router. The range on this router is significantly better than my old one too, which struggled to reach my basement. On this one I have a perfectly usable signal anywhere in the house. Probably because this one has multiple external antennas and the CL antennas were all internal.

Hands Down the best router! Before I purchased I did do a lot of research on this router and I can see why it has such high ratings. It is a little pricy but worth every penny. Very easy to set up (basically plug and play) I have a 3500 Sq. Ft. split level home and I have excellent 2.4 and 5 GHz coverage inside and out!

I was kind of sketchy to buy this item at first because of the price but i was in dire need. My home has so many people who use the wifi and my old router wasnt cutting it anymore. Man this thing really boosts your signal even during peak hours. No more lagg, my playstation store zooms now! I really love it! Im just a normal guy, anyone with a lot of activity on their network should really invest in this. The headache of lagg is annoying to say the least. Good luck.

My Netgear Nighthawk died on me after about 1.5 years so I needed a replacement that had wide coverage in a 4,000 plus square feet two story house. The Nighthawk has fair coverage but in the furthest reaches of the house its range could usually manage only one and rarely two bars of signal strength. In replacing the failed Nighthawk I wanted something that potentially had a greater range so I reviewed the ASUS AC3100 and was impressed by the reviews. I went ahead and pulled the trigger. Set up went fairly smoothly and I was very pleased with the range. Now I am consistently getting 2-3 bars signal strength in the furthest ranges. I am pleased with the purchase, however the only down side is the steep price. If you can manage the sticker shock price, the performance is top notch so far. Yet to be seen is what kind of longevity this will have. Hopefully that will be positive too.

I normally get ASUS products just so you know, but i got this router as an upgrade from the ASUS AC2400 router that i owned before which was already a beast, but let me tell you! this router eliminates latency more than anything I've ever seen. The new firmware has a gaming boost feature that prioritizes devices to make sure there is little to no lag even with the MU - MIMO. People tell me a lot that they can see my wifi signals from the other end of my block. This router is amazing, the UI is friendly to use, You're also able to setup as many VLANS as you need for your home network. This one also comes with Print server, Anyone who has left nighthawk for this has been nothing but happy. I recommend this product a million times more than i would a netgear router.

I bought this router (my 3rd one) by recommendation from the clerk, it has a reach of 5,000 sq ft. My house is3800 sq ft. so I thought it would work fine. I had problems at first getting a signal upstairs, then the day the geek squad guy came out, I moved the plug from the surge protector to the wall, and the signal came in fine, while he was there. One week later, I started having problems upstairs again, so I adjusted the antena, and seems to help, signal is fine again. Saved me allot of money not having to buy the mega router plus 2 power boosters that are compatible with that company's router, so if you live in an old house that is big and who knows what might be interfering, I think it works well for the money. For a new person to the wireless internet it was a little difficult to set up, I needed to be guided on the phone. Customer service was very good (and patient). The set up had to be re-done with a hardwire (ethernet) connection a second time because of some reason I didn't understand. It works fine now, so I shouldn't complain, but wouldn't be my first choice next time for problem spots. It really depends on your situation. Most homes it would be great. This was my 3rd one, and it is working great now.

This router has some blazing fast speeds with a fantastic coverage area. I get signal out in my garage, and the router is in my basement. The application has regular updates and has more diagnostic tools than you could ever need. Complete control of your network. Does keep asking for a manual firmware update that is kind of annoying, but it works without the update.

Researched routers for large homes rather extensively and ultimately bought this Asus - Ac3100 Dual-band Wi-fi Router. And wow--did it ever do the trick. All dead spots in my 3000 sq foot home are gone and internet speed was increased (in part because my old router was so old that it couldn't provide the hi-speeds I was actually paying for; that was something I didn't realize until buying this new router). Full transparency: I can't cocmment on how easy it was to set up because I had someone very familiar with router set-up install this router onto our existing network. No hitches thus far; router has never gone down or wigged out and coverage and internet speed remain consistent. I would definitely recommend this router to anyone--for me the $$$$ price tag was worth it.

The ASUS is excellent at spreading and boosting the broadband signal from my cable company -- far better than the free (bottom of the line) unit the cable folks give with the service. 5G signal covers all parts of the house, even upstairs, or when the tablet or netbook is not line of sight from the router.
