    Great Wireless-N Range Extender

It is a solid Wireless Range extender. It is very easy to setup up and I have found that it has excellent range and can handle a heavy work load. Of all the personal home range extenders out there, it is on the start of the more expensive side (but it does look cool). Worth the purchase if you want to plug it in and not worry about any issues.

I needed a wi-fi signal boost for an old tablet that didn't work well. The Asus EA-N66R does the job. A lot of older equipment like my tablet still uses "G" wi-fi. The Asus will boost either G or N, but not both at the same time. I am using it as a repeater. It also will give you a connection for a wired ethernet device or can be an access point. The selling point for me is that it was the fastest (450 mbps) one on the shelf at Best Buy. I can't comment on range because I haven't experimented with that. The blue light is only for show and doesn't appear to have a function. It was easy to set up and appears to be a solid performer.

I have used a number of modems, routers, combos as well as extenders over the years. to be honest the last extender i picked up worked okay but this one is exceptional no doubt about it. i have one device in particular that does not pickup wifi signals well. as mentioned i had purchased another brand/type of extender awhile back, even used a parabolic ant. but still could only get full strength unless within 20 feet of the signal source. then came the asus extender, i decided on it because of the orthogonally-arranged antennas designed to lessen interference and boost signal coverage. i set it up and literally can walk a full block away now and get one bar shy of full strength!! needless to say anywhere on our property i now get full strength and all my other devices which benefit too. one tested, my alienware laptop was able to use it three blocks away, again substantial improvement. i am very pleased with this device needless to say more. fyi the ethernet cable which comes with is used during setup, there after it is not necessary.

I give this 4 stars instead of 5 because the documentation is horrible and misleading. I purchased this product to use as an Access Point and THEN read the reviews on this site. Over the first 3 days I experienced many of the same problems that others have reported here. Mainly, not being able to hold a consistent wireless connection and not being able to log-in to the GUI. Mine would drop my connection every few hours or so. Over the first 3 days of owning the EA-N66 it dropped my connection at least a couple of dozen times. Instead of ripping my hair out (which I thought of doing many times) I stuck with it. And the reason I stuck with it was that when it worked, it was great! Great speed and great range! So I started reading all the reviews here and anywhere else I could find them. There was some nice information in those reviews and I'm glad to say that I have now have seemed to fix all of the problems I was experiencing. I have had a solid connection for the last 6 days. Not that this is a long time, but considering that it couldn't stay stable for more than a couple of hours, this is great and makes me think that the problem is solved. Everything is working great and I've had zero issues during this time. So my goal here is to tell you what I did to resolve the issues that had so many people, including myself, frustrated to the point of throwing this thing out the window and ripping ASUS a new one. Hopefully this information will save you the 3 days of time it took me to figure this out. I am using this in Access Point (AP) mode. I cannot vouch for its effectiveness in any other mode. I'm not going to bore you with a list of features as they are printed in other reviews and on the ASUS Website. As I write this the current firmware version is 1.0.1.8h. This is the version I am using. Other posts and the documentation tell you how to get to the internal setup page for this product. After getting there and going through the Quick Internet Setup, there are a few things that I found that were needed to make the EA N66 work consistently:. Here they are: Be sure to: * Give this unit a different SSID than your router. * Put this unit on a wireless channel that is open in your area. (There is a great free tool to help you in this regard. It's a program called inSSIDer HOME. Download it metageek.net. Go the the Downloads page and scroll to the bottom. Download the HOME version which is free. This tool will show all of the networks available in your area, what their SSID is, what channels they are on, and the strength of their signal. This is all great information to have when you set up the EA N66.) * In the LAN Settings, Disable DHCP Override! This product wants to re-assign IP addresses to your devices if it ever looses a connection which can create IP address conflicts with your router. Disabling DHCP Override will allow your router to assign the IP addresses. * Give the EA N66 a STATIC IP ADDRESS! Do not let it get its IP address automatically. I would loose connection to this device every couple of hours until I gave it a Static IP Address. This seemed to solve all of the connection stability problems I was having. These last two are very important. Good luck! This is a great product when it's stable and hopefully this will save you some frustration.

The device works very well as a repeater for my ASUS wireless router. I am able to keep my wireless signal strength at or near five bars and can stream movies easily in HD anywhere in my house (two-level home with about 2000 sq ft per level). Without using this device as a repeater, this was not possible. The set-up instructions were lacking in clarity. The instructions seemed to suggest you could go directly to the ASUS web site through the wireless network to access the set-up page for the device. I found that the device needs to be hard wired into a computer using the supplied Ethernet cable in order to connect to the device's on-line set-up page. Once I figured this out, I found that the set-up was fairly straight forward. Overall, I am very happy with this device.

Good for device to support 3 modes (WAP, bridge, range extender). I use it for a WAP. Fairly easy for techie to configure; otherwise, not. Poor documentation enclosed; must search web for advice and shared info (always sucks to unravel poor sentence structure and inconcise communication). Well constructed; fairly strong signal; configurable; stable. Bright operational light(blue); some prefer bright/extensive - I do not. Small form factor.

It was easy to use and has a good range. I did notice that if there is no connection for a day or longer, it takes several minutes for it to establish a link to primary router.

Great repeater for multiple high speed devices

Excellent device. Previous repeaters I used would slow down connection or deliver poor signal if just 2 gaming devices were on at once. With this repeater we can use multiple xBoxes, iPads and even stream a movie through a blue ray player without any noticeable slowing of the connection. Once the device is initially set up it stores the password even after we've lost power or our router has been diconnected. I haven't had to reprogram this device once since purchasing it 3 months ago. Not even after loosing power for 6 days after superstore Sandy! I also like that you can use the same network id and password as your router so you're not switching between different signals depending which one you are closer to in the house and I didn't have to add any new network router id's to any of our devices. Also like the antennae design since it transmits well 360 degrees, not just the direction the antennae is pointing. All around a great product for large homes or businesses where strong high speed signals are a must!!!

My Wifi Router is in my Basement, and I chose this product to extend the wifi service throughtout my home. Install was quite simple, and had easy interface to view settings from browser. Kept having "hiccups" on my network, where laptops & other misc wifi devices were not connecting to the internet. Found there was issues with 2 networks with the same name in range. Fix was to rename the wifi from the asus a different name so there were no conflicts. After this I have had ZERO Problems.

In the same room as the router, Asus Dark Knight, the wireless speed is the same as direct connect. Connected to my Tivo I can download a 2.1 gig movie, from my PC thru the Dark Knight to Tivo, in the 2.5 to 3.5 minute range. Old DIR655 took 18 - 20 minutes. The N66R is roughly 35-40 feet from the router through 2 walls and down one floor. Installed for 3 weeks and have not dropped a single connection.

Upon reading the instructions, it was not clear to me whether you could use it as a wi-fi signal booster or cable connect or both. I hooked it up and was glad to discover it is both. This was NOT obvious from the instructions. It did save me having to run a network cable from the FIOS unit in the basement to the HTPC one floor up in the living room. I located the unit close to the cabinet housing the HTPC and connected a physical network cable - also saved me having to purchase a new wireless card (new HTPC motherboard only had newer PCI-E slots, so older wireless cards not usable any more). I would rate it as pricey, but considering what it saved me (noted above), I cant complain to much. Hopefully it will continue to work without any issues doen the line...so far so good after 2 months...

I have two TVs with Wi-Fi capability one in the living room and one in my theater in the basement. My router is on the 2nd floor at the other end of the house. This Wi-Fi extender allows me to get updates on my TVs, steam Youtube, Netflix, and other internet based content easily. I could not use those features before because the Wi-Fi signal was so weak. This unit has a Youtube video for set up that was really helpful.

I already had the Asus Router, the strong one. I tried two other extenders and was about to give up and thought one would just not work in my house. This house is large about 4500 sq ft and the smart tv is downstairs from the router on the opposite end of the house, as far away as you can get. One thing to do when setting this up is use the quick set up which is listed in the Quick Start Guide Booklet on page 5 "Using WPS". Mine worked the first try and has been on since. If these instructions do not work for you then try the instructions on page 4.These should be reversed in the booklet they give you. Anyway I love it. Keep in mind which router I have. The model # may have changed a little but it is the strong router of ASUS. Before I had extender my smart TV signal was week and I had trouble streaming movies etc.But not now.

I needed a 5Ghz Spectrum WiFi setup. The Rocketfish remote speaker transmitter/receiver I bought to connect my rear speakers interfered with The WiFi served up by the Uverse router, which doesn't support this spectrum. There is a gotcha here. It's not specific to this particular WIreless Access Point. No, the issue is the 5Ghz spectrum. This WAP can be setup for 5Ghz OR 2.4Ghz but not both. So, make sure your devices can talk 5Ghz! I ended up replacing the adapters on two desktop PCs. (Fortunately my Macbook AirPort supports both spectrums) but the real problem was my HP OfficeJet 8000. It wouldn't talk in the 5Ghz range and there are no user serviceable parts inside. SO... I had to reenable my Uverse 802.11g wireless network in order to print. When I did this, the other devices (desktops, iPad, etc.) drifted back to this slower network (looks like they're trained to look in the 2.4Ghz space first). To prevent this, I changed the SSID on the "g" network so only the printer uses it. Other than that, everything was fine.

I purchased this device so the 2nd and 3rd floors had access to the wifi signal from the router on the 1st floor. The connection is great throughout the house! The instructions weren't very clear for set up but it was easy once deciphered. No issues so far after a month of use.

I needed to boost my wireless signal to a room attached to the garage, and this little triangle did the trick. Easy to install (just plug it in the wall), and you're off and running. Salesman at Best Buy encouraged me to buy this model which was more expensive than others because it was powerful enough to do what I wanted. He was right.

First of all, we love the look of it. That's silly and superficial, but it's true. It has a nice sci-fi look about it and nothing cheap looking either. We purchased it to get wifi in our family room because the WiiU wasn't picking it up, nor was the XBOX. Our ASUS router couldn't get across the house through three walls. At first, we were stymied and could not get to the user interface screen online, but the tech guy not only helped iwth that and getting the extender set up, but he also went over the router settings and optimized them. I don't know how anyone would be able to use the ASUS user interface without help. And I'm good with computers and with website code but this was over my head. Anyway, we've been super happy with the product but it cost almost as much as the router which was supposed to have better range than it does, so I gave this lower stars for price.
