Good RTX 3080 That Should Have Been at Launch

This GPU is very good in terms of performance (high refresh rate and high resolution at 1440p on max settings). The package came out nicely and the presentation of the package is very good. In addition, DLSS and RTX features are greatly improved from the RTX 2000 series (I upgraded from a pre-built RTX 2070 Super to this GPU for maxed out settings at 165FPS in 1440p). The GPU's design is breathtaking and managed to fit in the pre-built Asus Strix ROG desktop that I own and does everything better than what the 2070 Super that I had in terms of performance to cooling. For performance, I ran Ready or Not at maxed settings with DLSS and Nvidia Reflex+boost and ran 224 FPS which is amazing and hopefully I would try run other games like Squad, Team Fortress 2, Fortnite, and Elden Ring. The only thing that holds it back is how this model should have been at launch with adding more VRAM than it's predecessor the RTX 2080/2080 Super, so that people have a reason to upgrade and have a better value than what Nvidia is doing and of course adding a little bit of more VRAM for the next generation of GPUs would help the value, which convinces people to upgrade. Of course the pricing is still not good, however Asus is doing price drops for this model and their rest of their lineup of GPUs and the shortage is beginning to end, so hopefully people will have a higher chance to purchase GPUs. Overall still amazing GPU and once more are available and the price starts to decrease more, get it. Even if the next generation of GPUs are coming out, if you have concerns will power requirements and still have a capable power-supply, this GPU is still an amazing option.

I’ll still give this 5 stars, despite the coil whine. I did end up undervolting this card down to .903v at 1875mhz which peaks at 1905mhz boost. Works fine, maintains in the upper 60’s and low 70’s, less depending on room ambient temp. At this point, wait for the 4080/12gb benchmarks and see if the $799 vs $899 is worth it.

was excited to hook this up, but the coil whine is unbearable. Just about any game you throw at it gives it a coil whine at any fps. This is supposedly a common problem if you search on reddit. unfortunately im going to be returning this. Be warned.

Brand response from ASUS Answers

Dear Seth,
We're sorry to hear about the unfortunate experience you had with Coil whine on this model. Coil whine is a distinctly power-related issue since it’s directly caused by surging electricity. This electricity causes capacitors to vibrate at a high frequency, producing coil whine. While this noise most often comes directly from the graphics card, the graphics card itself may not actually be at fault. In a case like this, we would recommend attempting these steps: 1. Enable A Strict FPS Cap. 2. Disable Your GPU Overclock. 3.Turn on Your GPU's Low Power or Eco Mode. 4. Undervolt Your GPU. 5. Verify PSU Performance & Replace If Needed. 6. Then get Get A GPU Replacement. For more information send us an email at [email protected] and provide the link of this review for reference. We’ll do our best to provide a quick resolution to your case. Your feedback is important as it helps with improvements to ASUS Support channels. Please copy a link to this post as a reference. Better temps than]3080 Ti Gigabyte Eagle Gaming OC

I didn't buy this from Best Buy, but I did buy it on Amazon. This thing runs cooler than my 3080 TI Gigabyte Eagle Gaming OC GPU. It probably clocks higher as well. Temps are also cooler than the 3080ti. Asus did cut prices, and if you can catch a 10gb one at 999.99, then maybe get it, but this is like a 3080 super or almost or equal for a 3080ti.
