Customers are positive about the ProArt monitor's color accuracy, USB-C connectivity, and resolution, with many praising the crisp, clear picture and convenient features. The build quality also receives high marks for its sturdy construction and included cables. However, customers are less impressed with the integrated speakers, noting that while functional, they are not of high quality. Overall, the positive feedback on key features outweighs the negative comments regarding the speakers.

I’ve done a ton of research on monitors over the last 2 months trying to find the right one. Please remember this is just my opinions.
Situation: I am a graphic/web design student and manage a website professionally for a major organization, I do have some financial freedoms, this monitor is not cheap and not needed for students but a huge bonus to have.
I originally was looking for an ultra-wide (45”+). However, if you need color/image accuracy, bigger is worse. There is no right size but 24-32” is a good range. I went with the 27” which is perfect for my design, I run a 2nd monitor for my other programs through my work computer, it’s not ideal for “non-technical designers”. If you want a big screen for multi-tasking and other stuff, don’t spend the money on this. If you are looking for color/image accuracy, I think you found what you are looking for.
System: I am running a 2020 M1 Mac Air w/ 16g ram, connection is through the usb-c port (touch on that later).
Projects completed: I recently finished up some work and have completed about 3 illustrator projects and 5 photoshop projects since my purchase. I was working off my 13” screen and an HDMI connected 27” Acer. When I opened a few projects I had been working, I ended up changing all of my colors that weren’t part of the style guides, man was it off on the Acer.
This Asus has everything a designer needs. RGB and CYMK are both very accurate, the cymk is not perfect but, you are looking at print colors on a screen. 4K is beautiful. I did hook up my Xbox series s and it looks good but doesn’t have frame rate needed so meh there but like I said, this is a monitor for designers. Movies play great through both HDMI, DP, and USB-C. I am still trying to get used to the board in this monitor charging my computer and other devices, It acts as a connection hub. Basically, this monitor hit every need.
However…….
If you plan on using usb-c connections (recommended), you will need to be a little tech savvy. These monitors do not work from the manufacturer with Apple. They just don’t. But. You can go to the asus website, download the firmware and drivers, install the drivers through commander, then move firmware to a thumb drive, plug it in to a usb 2.0, hit a sequence of monitor buttons which opens the hardware up for service. You run the file on the thumb drive through the monitor and then boom, it works. I typed this all out because it seemed daunting, but I was a first time to by following the directions step by step. Now, if you are looking at a monitor like this, you probably have the capacity to do what I just described, it’s worth it and will work fine with HDMI/DP until you do this. It seems like a big deal and I wish they did this at the factory but I know more about my monitor and how to troubleshoot it locally as opposed to shipping it back, waiting, and possibly being denied. It’s a pain in the butt but trust me, it’s totally worth the 15min it took.
Overall, I’m very satisfied and would recommend this to designers/artists (digital). I would not recommend it to anyone outside of that field. If you are a student on a budget, you’ll get there eventually and be just fine.

The biggest reason to purchase this is if you do photo and video editing and care about highly accurate color representstion, which this large beautiful monitor does very well. Its solidly built and sturdy. However at its price point I wonder if chosing something a couple hundred dollars less may be a better choice.

I have used this as my primary work monitor for 3 months now and am very happy. I do architectural modeling and rendering work which required high definition and accurate color and this monitor delivers. It is great for color grading photo and video as well. HDR looks great and never issues with glare. Colors were accurate right out of the box. Looks nice and clean on desk.
Only small gripe is it takes a little longer than desired to wake up from sleep. not a big enough issue for me to deduct a star.

Solid monitor that looks AMAZING, crisp, and perfect for doing photo editing. I got the smaller 4k, and I’m not all all bothered by the size since I have two monitors anyway. A must have for those who do photo editing or doing any digital art in general.

The Asus PA279CV monitor… a truly great monitor for color accurate workflows. Out of the box, you get the following:
- monitor (4K HDR, 3840 x 2160 resolution)
- base stand
- arm (connects monitor to base)
- power cable
- DisplayPort cable
- USB Type C cable
- HDMI cable
- quick start guide to setting up
In terms of port selection, the monitor provides:
- 2x HDMI 2.0 ports (capable of 4K 60FPS)
- DisplayPort port (capable of 4K 60FPS)
- USB Type C port (capable of powering devices up to 65W + 4K 60FPS)
- 3.5mm headphone port
- 4 USB Type A ports (these ports are functional when connected via USB Type C, acting as a hub/dock)
Setting up the monitor is quite easy. You can get away without using the quick start guide if you know how to plug cables in. One thing to note is that next to the power input is a power switch — for me it was in the “off” position, and because i didn’t look under the monitor initially when plugging in the power cord, i missed it… This lead me to not be able to power on the monitor from the front facing interface button and lead me to believe the monitor was dead on arrival (i was able to swap out the power cable with others i had to deduce this). Upon closer inspection, i finally saw the power switch and toggled it to the “on” position, and from there i was able to power on the monitor with the front facing power button. After that debacle, there were no other issues with setup and i was able to connect the monitor to my laptop, desktop, and gaming consoles.
Connection of choice for me was via USB Type C. The main reason for this is because i have a MacBook Pro 16”, MacBook Air M1, and a Dell XPS 13. Connecting via USB Type C, i was able to charge each device and utilize the USB Type-A ports of the monitor to connect my peripherals (e.g., mouse, thumb drive, etc.). When viewing the power settings on my MacBook Pro & MacBook Air (via System Information > Power), i see the monitor is providing 65W, which matches the 20V x 3.25A listing of the port. This is great for my lower powered devices but not so much for my MacBook Pro 16” especially if i’m running computationally expensive software which will drain the battery faster than it is being charged from the monitor. Please note, i did see user “spezaled" mention that his MacBook Pro was not able to be powered by the monitor, but this was not the case for me as i was able to connect and power up two separate MacBook devices. Aside from that, the DisplayPort & HDMI ports work as expected and i am able to connect to my desktop & gaming consoles to achieve 4K 60FPS.
Colors on this monitor are very good. I am not a photographer or designer, however based off of comparisons to my other 4K monitors (e.g, LG 27UL600-W and HP U27), the Asus takes the cake with its color reproduction. By default, there are many color presets provided for different viewing experiences and if those don’t suite you, ProArt Palette can be used to manually set the color profile via the monitor settings.
The inbuilt speakers are decent, but do not expect much from them. They clearly lack in bass and mids. The speakers from my MacBook M1 Air and Dell XPS 13 clearly blow it out of the park, but if you are simply listening to audio books or podcasts, they will suffice given you don’t have too much ambient noise. This isn’t really a dealbreaker for me though since i typically use bluetooth headphones or dedicated speakers but i did want to bring it up in case it could be a concern for other users interested in purchasing this monitor.
Overall, i would say this is a feature full monitor and is certainly worth it’s asking price. I really love the fact that it is a USB Type-C monitor, in that it can also act as a charging dock for both my Windows & Mac laptops. I highly recommend this for anyone that requires a color accurate panel and dock!

A high quality and high resolution monitor

Verdict. I love the size and image quality of this monitor. The connection options provide fantastic convenience and versatility. It is the best monitor I have owned.
First impression. All components provide a feel of high quality, including the provided cables. Of note, I very much appreciate that the monitor comes with three different cables (USB-C, HDMI, and Display Port). Assembly was intuitive and easy. The upper and side bezels are very thin. The stand adds to the footprint of the monitor but the added functionality of being able to raise/lower the screen, and move it to portrait, makes it worth. The base of the monitor is quite large, but I don’t mind because I can organize pens and post-its there.
Image quality. I am using this monitor with an Omen gaming laptop with an RTX 2070 card. The image quality is fantastic! While I can’t verify that I am getting full 4k 3840 x 2160, I am completely happy with my current resolution results. I am also very pleased with the colors; they are bright and vibrant. I can easily tell the difference between my cheap monitor and this Asus monitor on the color and brightness, even to the point where I want to get another one of these so the colors and brightness match. Right now, I am not using this monitor for gaming because I love using it in portrait mode for work tasks, so can’t evaluate its gaming performance.
Features. I love that this monitor has connectivity options for USB-C, Display port, and HDMI. The monitor also has USB ports in the back of the monitor that are very convenient for charging earphones, mouse, and keyboard. The monitor has integrated speakers but they are just ok. My Omen Laptop speakers are better, but in a pinch, the monitor speakers are nice to have. I like the menu implementation: the physical buttons are easy to use, navigation through the menu is nice, and the presets are great.
What I love.
- Great resolution
- Great brightness and colors
- Thin bezels
- Fantastic stand; I love the ability to raise or lower the height of the monitor, and to easily be able to rotate to portrait mode
- Useful menu presets
- High quality monitor and accessories; it’s the best monitor I have owned
What I don’t love.
- The monitor has a big footprint, it may not work for everyone depending on your desk space
Conclusion.
Amazing monitor: fantastic resolution, color, brightness, and performance. This ASUS monitor is not cheap but if you are looking for a capable and versatile 27” 4k monitor, this is a great option.

Stunning, True Color Monitor

The ASUS ProArt display impresses with its vibrant and rich colors. Made specially designed for artists or people who do graphic design, the colorful display can be of use to a wide range of people, notably those who do photography, video and even AutoCAD.
Setup is easy once out of the box. The ProArt has the option to choose from USB C, DisplayPort, and HDMI as video sources and further allows 65W charging from the USB C port as well. What I really liked was that all cables were included for each input including the USB-C cable. Thanks Asus! Auto source recognition made it easy to plug in the monitor and begin using it quickly after connecting it to my laptop.
The ProArt is unlike any other monitor I've used or seen, having features like blue light reduction beneficial for me,, and features for work like color presets. Having multiple presets like sRGB, Rec.709, and DCI-P3 also made it easier to adjust to the color gamut I prefer. Even with the standard preset on, wow, colors appear beautiful and natural. Asus went further in their setup and included certificates showing Calman verification (used to verify color accuracy), TUV low blue light filter, TUV flicker free technology, and a pre-calibration color report. The monitor also touts 100% sRGB, 100% Rec. 709, a 4K HDR10, 60Hz, 5ms, IPS panel, with a max brightness of 350 nits (enough to view what you'd like in a well lit room). This is all to say in simple terms that the monitor is bright and will produce colors and shades of colors accurately. When in use, I could see natural colors vividly within photoshop projects and as they were exported in the quality I liked.
Another feature that wowed me was the tilt and pivot the monitor has. You can swivel to the left and right 45 degrees, plus are able to pivot 90 degrees (from horizontal to vertical position). The pivot feature is perfect when trying to get a better look at pictures or art in portrait mode. Finally, the internal speakers included in the monitor are pretty good quality. The sound can get loud enough for when watching movies or videos to hear peoples' voices and does not crack at 100%. It is a nice addition speakers were included.
Overall, this is a great monitor for those wanting a monitor that shows vivid, true colors and not a display with washed or oversaturated colors and hues. I recommend it if you are looking for something to use for photoshop, video editing, or simply want an amazing looking display.

Using this monitor as part of my work from home set up in combination with a 2019 MacBook Pro connected by USB-C. I mainly use Figma in my day-to-day and have had a great experience using this monitor as my main screen.
I've seen the feedback around a wobbly screen while pushing the buttons. It does wobble, but I've only pushed those buttons during the initial set up and haven't touched them since. The base is a good size so it doesn't wobble in any other situation.
It's not a pretty looking monitor like the Apples, LGs, and Samsungs out there but it's solid. The build quality is sturdy. Working in UX design the picture and resolution is perfect for me. Having the USB-C connection is convenient.
Consider where lighting is in your set up because there is glare that happens. Before, I was working with the window behind me and I had a glare spot which was annoying.

An excellent addition to the ProArt Line!

The Asus PA279CV – 27” 4K IPS Monitor is an excellent addition to the Asus ProArt line of monitors that are oriented at Professional Monitor needs including Photography, Filmmaking & Video Editing, Animation & Game Development, Architecture & Engineering, Product Design & Manufacturing, and Graphics & Art. As a user of 3 ProArt monitors for the last 11 years that are still going strong - yes that is correct the same monitors for the last 11 years - I was extremely pleased to have an opportunity to review this new addition to the series.
This review will be done in 3 parts – key features and specifications, usage impressions, and pros/cons:
Key Features:
The key features of this monitor are excellent. The basic features are as follows this is a 27”, 4K (3840x2160) IPS monitor with 1x DisplayPort v1.2, 2 x HDMI (v 2.0), and 1x USB-C inputs with a 178° viewing angle and a 16:9 ratio. Other specifications of interest include:
• International color standard 100% sRGB and 100% Rec. 709 wide color gamut
• Calman Verified with factory calibrated for excellent Delta E < 2 color accuracy
• Extensive connectivity including DP over USB-C with 65W Power Delivery, DisplayPort, HDMI, USB hub with 4 downstream ports.
• Adaptive-Sync technology (40~60Hz) to animated content with fast action and eliminate screen tearing
• ASUS-exclusive ProArt Preset and ProArt Palette provide numerous adjustable color parameters.
• Ergonomic design with +35° ~ -5° tilt, ±45° swivel, ±90° pivot and 150mm height adjustments for a comfortable viewing experience
• The monitor also has 2Wx2 speakers
Included with the monitor are the stand, power cable, DisplayPort cable, HDMI cable, USB-C cable, the color pre-calibration report, a Warranty card, and a welcome card. The monitor weighs in at 18.9598 pounds with the included stand and 12.5663 pounds without it and has VESA 100 x 100 mm mounting capabilities.
Usage Impressions:
This unit is easy to use, and the only setup is to attach the stand and cables. Once connected the device is easily recognized by the operating system. The screen itself is gorgeous and watching 4K video is amazingly crisp and clean with vibrant colors and the darkest of darks with no notifiable issues for contrasting areas. The stand mount has an extremely useful swivel feature on it allowing the monitor to be rotated without having to rotate the stand. The stand and the VESA 100 mounting bracket allow for this monitor to be configured in multiple ways to allow for the best use case, including with the use of monitor arms.
The fact that this monitor continues the long tradition of ProArt Monitors having multiple inputs, allows for one to connect the device to a wide array of inputs. In my existing setup, I have been able to configure the setup to handle inputs from my Tower, My work laptop, and my personal laptop via the multiple inputs available. I see no reason why I cannot continue to do this with the new monitor, albeit using different ports. The multiple input feature also allows one to set up the screen in either a Picture-in-Picture or a Picture-By-Picture Mode, with the latter allows up to four inputs.
The other features available in the On-Screen Display (OSD) menu include:
• ProArt Preset – Offering various modes of use including Standard Mode, sRGB, Rec. 709, DCI-P3, HDR, Scenery, Reading, Darkroom, and Rapid rendering modes. It also allows for 2 user-specified modes.
• Blue Light Filter – this allows one to adjust the amount of Blue light emitted from the panel. Level 4 is optimized and is compliant with the TUV low Blue Light Certification and in this mode the Brightness function is disabled.
• ProArtPalette – is for managing the Brightness, Contrast, Saturation, Hue, Color Temperature, Gamma, Black Level, Color, and has a Color Reset capability.
• Image – allowing one to adjust the Sharpness, Trace Free, Aspect Control, and ASCR capabilities.
• Sound – You can adjust Volume, Mute, and Source for Audio
• PIP/PBP Setting – as discussed above
• Input Select – to Select the source for input including auto Detection
• System Setup – Language settings, System Information and All Reset (return to factory default)
• Shortcut – Used to create two shortcut keys for brightness, contrast, input select, Color temp., Volume, QuickFit, GamePlus Rest Reminder, Color Augmentation, and set as a shortcut key.
Overall, the Asus PA279CV – 27” 4K IPS Monitor is a wonderful high-quality monitor with a lot of features that can aid the user in all aspects of their needs for a monitor.
Pros: Picture Quality, Number of available inputs, PBP/PIP functionality, Available modes
Cons: The USB hub requires the use of the USB-C upstream port which is not available on all machines (but cab be rectified via an adapter or add-on card.)

Great monitor for multitasking with limited space

My initial thought was that it wouldn't be for me, since i tend to have too many windows open, and so i'd rather have two smaller monitors side by side. However, i can snap windows into 4 quadrants quite nicely and find the amount of content is more than enough to see without scrolling. Each section is about the size of my laptop screen that this is connected to, so its like i have 5 screens now. So if you don't have the most desk space to fit a couple monitors, this would be a nice compromise
portrait mode is definitely a handy feature, especially if you tend to do coding or use other programs that would require large amounts of scrolling
There are 2 HDMI's, a display port and USB-C so you'll likely be able to connect to any device, or even multiple and just toggle between them as needed. As someone with limited desk space, i can have my laptop and desktop connected to the display and toggle when needed.
The picture is very crisp and the colour is excellent. Watching on video worked really nicely. I imagine those involved in graphic design and more art oriented would find this a great display for their work.

The monitor looks great. Very happy with it, but side by side with the WQHD version it's very, very tough to see the resolution difference. 27 inches just doesn't necessitate 4k unless you are a serious creative. Even as a video editor and colorist, I'm not sure if this was the right choice.
On the plus though, I haven't seen such a good monitor at this price point. It's not Flanders scientific levels of excellence, but the issues with quality control I read about before my purchase didn't bother me at all. I looked at Benq's professional monitors in person and was pretty disappointed.
Things I don't read much about these monitors:
There is some backlight bleed. It's very subtle, and completely unnoticeable unless you're looking at a mostly black screen.
The stands are really nice. It feels like a pro quality screen in terms of it's build. I anticipated getting a dual monitor stand, but I liked these enough to keep them.
Not sure that I'd spend the extra on the 4k if I did it all over. It might be worth considering a larger screen if you're dead set on 4k. Between the dell, benQ, and proart though, this is a no brained imo.

Very Nice IPS Monitor
|
Posted .
This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.
I primarily own monitors with 24” VA or TN panels with high refresh rates for gaming. I also own a couple of 27” IPS 1440p monitors also with high refresh rates catered for gaming. What I don’t own is a monitor that produces high color accuracy and detail for normal viewing cases such as photography, movies and anything else that doesn’t really need 144+hz of refresh. So the ASUS ProArt PA279CV 4k monitor is a great median for standard viewing and 4k gaming, I would say. I’m not a professional photographer, videographer nor graphic designer; I’m actually a software developer who does use 4k monitors at work, and I’d love to have one of these for @ home use.
First Impressions:
THe PA279CV has the semblance of many monitors offered today, with thin bezels on top and on the sides, and a bit of a chin to round it out. The monitor controls are actually in front of you as opposed to underneath the chin. I think much of the chin could have been lessened if the controls were tucked underneath. Also on the chin is an imprinted ruler that spans across the entire bottom to coincide with the built-in QuickFit overlay that will allow you to see an actual size of your creation. The entire monitor is plastic to protect the internals and the stand is a hefty metal base with gray plastic to cover it. With the stand attached, this has to be the heaviest 27” monitor I have ever owned.
Usage:
The PA279CV accepts the following I/O --
DisplayPort over USB-C x 1
DisplayPort 1.2 x 1
HDMI(v2.0) x 2
USB Hub : 4 ports USB 3.1
Earphone Jack
The monitor can be raised or lowered, swiveled and tilted, and changed from landscape to portrait, all on it’s original stand. If I had a pair of these monitors, I would have one landscape and the other portrait, side by side.
I tried both DP1.2(PC) as well as HDMI2.0(gaming console) for display input, and I was also able to utilize the USB-C connection on my PC to activate the available USB3.1 ports. I didn’t have a means of driving video over USB-C during this review.
Performance:
Out of the box, I immediately saw the differences between this monitor and my gaming monitors; photos on the gaming monitors are very washed out, but on this monitor it is totally opposite. Photos appear slightly on the warm side, but this is probably because I’ve been so used to having my monitors’ settings on the cool side. There are several ProArt color gamut presets, but enabling HDR from within the Windows 10 Display settings locks the monitor to HDR. Outside of HDR, you’re free to change the settings that suit your needs. For me, HDR was the best balance of contrast and brightness, entrusting Calman with their color accuracy. I’m definitely not an expert in terms of color accuracy nor familiar with the specific color gamuts, but my eyes are definitely seeing a difference via the “seat-of-the-pants” approach. 4k just looks gorgeous on this monitor.
Gaming:
Although the refresh rate is 60hz, it does support variable frame refresh between 40hz and 60hz. Many might think that’s a bit low of a refresh, especially for 4k HDR gaming, but I actually think otherwise; the gaming consoles and gpus of today are still trying to keep up with 60hz even as they push the 120hz initiative.
Issues:
Black level uniformity is not great. There are hot spots on every corner of the monitor and can get very distracting. Honestly, I don’t know why it’s the case. I’m viewing the monitor in a dark room and can clearly see the hot spots. My other 1440p gaming monitors’ black uniformity is much better. If dark images, videos or anything dark is your thing, this might bother you a lot. I docked a star here.
Overall, this is a great monitor in my book.

I really like the 27" ProArt, my only reservation is that there is no manual, or even a reference to an online manual. Given that this is a calibrated device, with color space options, there **really** needs to be some explanation and description of the settings. Image quality, color rendition and viewing angle are excellent at the defaults. However it would be nice to be able to increase brightness beyond 50% even temporarily for use in a bright environment. Maybe some of the "custom" settings would allow this, haven't tried it. I have made a large sunshade to cope with this issue.
Secondarily, I wasn't expecting a built in speaker, there is one, and it is **terrible**! Better to remove it.

I love this monitor! I'd been using a perfectly fine monitor of the same size but it was not 4K. I wanted to see what 4K would look like. It turns out I decided to scale to 3008x1692 instead of the maximum because the type is too tiny at the maximum. But 3008x1692 is a welcome change over 2560x1440. I researched 27" 4K monitors a lot before opting for this one. I'm not a photographer or creative; I just love the resolution, colors, and adjustability in so many ways, at a good price for these features. I'm using the USB-C cable with a new Mac with M1 chip. Download the firmware update on the Asus site before attempting to use the Thunderbolt port on the new Macs. I read reviews of this Asus to find this tip, and it's crucial if you bought a Mac with M1. Save yourself frustration and don't think you have a lemon; just update the firmware!

This is a gorgeous 4K display, calibrated out of the box, and a cinch to set up. The monitor took some adjustment on my part to get accustomed to. The native resolution of 3840 X 2160 is 4K and then some. Scaled to 120 per cent on the desktop as recommended by Windows 10, text is quite crisp and readable, but tiny. That annoyance is easily adjusted. I have this display set up next to a 24-inch monitor which it has supplanted. I am enjoying the extended desktop. My other monitor, adjusted by eye only, had a bluish cast to the whites, and the Asus appeared relatively warmer. I trust the calibrated Asus.
The non-reflective screen has been a joy to use. I have the monitors set up at my office desk. Given the way I have been using the Asus so far, its beautiful resolution is overkill. Its video inputs feature two HDMI inputs, a USB-C input, and a Display Port input. The monitor comes with a USB-C cable, tagged to be USB 3.1 compliant, an HDMI cable, and a Display Port cable. My Lenovo ThinkCentre M90n1 with an i5-8265U processor and Intel UHD Graphics 620 was able to output HDR under Windows 10 into the Asus, and it looked fantastic. I had to connect it with the supplied Display Port cable. I was not able to get video to pass through the USB-C cable from the Lenovo into the Asus unless I used a USB-C to HDMI dongle (not supplied), leading me to think the supplied USB-C cable may have been at fault.
I had the monitor up and running in less than 15 minutes out of the box. No tools are required to attach the monitor panel to the base, which is replete with the video input options mentioned, all speced to be capable of displaying 4K HDR resolution at 60 fps. In addition, there is a headphone jack (3.5mm) and four USB-A 3.1 ports which operate off the USB-C input, the Asus acting as a hub, also passing along power to connected devices, such as laptops, which need it to recharge batteries.
I was startled to hear audio out of the monitor. The Asus does have speakers which are passable, and they are a convenience to have if outboard speakers are not available.
This is a fine monitor and will serve my needs for some time to come. I am not a gamer or into production graphics or video. I will use the Asus occasionally to touch up photographs and consume media, in addition to its regular office work.
I would recommend this to a friend

One of the best 4K monitor with USB C power delivery. I have been using this monitor for over 1.5 years and I'm highly satisfied. I use it with my Macbook Air M1 and connect using a single USB C cable that came with the monitor for both power and data. The built-in speakers are basic and could have been better.
