Customers are saying

Customers value the ROG laptop's exceptional graphics and appreciate the amount of storage it offers. They also find it to be quite portable despite being a high-powered gaming laptop. However, some customers have expressed concerns about the keyboard and trackpad's poor tactile feel, its fingerprint-attracting surface, and its slightly heavy weight.

    A let down

I bought this computer because of the specs and the reviews were pretty good. It's for my 19 year old son who's a gamer and he loved it in the beginning. All of his games ran at full tilt with no problems. Last night the computer just started randomly turning off. Not shutting down, just a complete loss of power. I forgot to get the warranty on it because I just handed the thing over to him and kinda forgot about it. It hasn't even been 45 days yet but I'm over the return policy date. Now I'm going to have to deal with Asus. This thing is too expensive to be doing stuff like this.

Solid Budget Gaming Laptop on the Fly

I've been using this laptop for at least three months and am confident to say that it's worth the money I spent. My complaints 1) Heavy: Sure, it's a gaming laptop, I understand that, though somehow I wish Asus could make a lighter gaming laptop. 2) Fingerprint magnet: This is not big, it's HUGE, at least for me. Thus, if you plan on getting one, also plan on getting decal stickers installed. Other people's complains: 1) Preinstalled software 2) Fingerprint magnet 3) Wifi connection issue 4) NVIDIA driver update failure via NVIDIA app 5) Graphic cards not working properly leading to Blue Screen Of Death (BSOD) My fixes: 1) Either update them as soon as possible (most, if not all of them, should be updated automatically by now, which means they shouldn't cause that much trouble like when the model was introduced) or uninstall them right away. In my opinion, I find them rather useful when it comes to eye care and gaming mode. 2) If you don't mind this, then it's not a big deal. Otherwise, plan on getting decal stickers installed. 3) and 5) Download "Intel Driver Update Utility" from Intel website. This will find the latest driver for your Intel HD Graphic card, Wifi and Bluetooth and allow you to choose which you want to update. CAUTION: Read driver update review before updating, focusing on issues other meet when doing so. 4) Download the NVIDIA driver from the website. CAUTION: Read the reviews on the driver update before updating. Sometimes, NVIDIA drivers will put your laptop into troubles. Other than that, this is a great piece of machine. If you're into VR, just get a different model from a different brand, especially at this time of the year when there's a lot of extremely good deals on gaming laptop. Or, you can just get a VR-Ready NVIDIA graphic cards (at least GTX 1060 I believe) and set it up with this laptop if you had already purchased this model.

    Really wanted to like this

Here's the thing. I really wanted to like this laptop. I researched laptops for at least a month, and picked this one for its specs; 128 GB hybrid SSD/1TB HDD, 16 GB RAM, dedicated 2GB graphics card, 6th gen i7, backlit keyboard, numeric key pad. I intended to use this for video editing (not video games), and it did a pretty good job with the 4 videos I have made in the past 9 days since receiving this laptop. Although there were a couple times it had trouble rendering small videos, that it really shouldn't have with all these great specs IMO. I'm typing on the laptop right now. I would have still decided to keep it except for two big things: the edges on the laptop are SHARP. Too sharp to ignore, as they are not comfortable at all. The other thing is the trackpad. It's....kind of sticky...my finger doesn't run across it smoothly. It feels kind of rubbery if that makes sense. It takes a couple clicks to register sometimes too. Very annoying. While I'm at it, the battery life kind of sucks, and the keyboard is pretty squishy. I'll be returning it before my 14 day window is up. Looking at a Dell XPS 15 now, hopefully it's better.

    Great for Programming and Gaming

I've had this PC for a little over a month. I was looking for a computer that I could use mainly for desktop and web development and a little gaming. This computer delivered on all three of those criteria. I use Visual Studio 2012 and SQL Server 2012 to develop web and desktop applications and this computer has enough power to get it done. The 4GB graphics card is awesome for gaming, but I don't do much online gaming. I've played MGS Phantom Pain, Gears of War and Shadow of Mordor on this PC and the graphics are awesome! I love the backlit keyboard and extra color definition to the WASD keys. Also, the HDMI out allows me to hook this system up to my 60" LED and play on that instead of the PC screen without any delay or ghosting on the screen. I did notice some graphics glitching when installing or uninstalling applications on the computer, but never while gaming. The keyboard is prone to streaking from my hands. Other than those issues, which I consider minor and I can easily live with, I haven't run into any other issues. I'm loving my new computer!

I bought this laptop for my business because gaming laptops have a lot of what I needed than a traditional laptop don't have. This thing is super fast and it looks tough

    Great laptop

I went through 3 laptops within a week trying to find one that worked. All three had something wrong with them. I found this beauty on the website, and gave it a shot. It started up in seconds and it surprisingly had minimal glare on the screen. It crashed once from the two graphics card, but I optimized the nivida graphics card and disabled the Intel graphics card and everything worked great afterwards. The ssd really helps with bulky games. its definitely worth the price though. Other laptops with specs like this can cost $200 more, at that point, it's just the brand you're paying for. I would reccomend keeping the backlit keyboard on because the letters can become somewhat hard to see. Also buy a usb mouse because the mousepad is garbage. If you know how to fix the graphics card issue and buy a mouse get this laptop because it's a good laptop it just has a few kinks that can be fixed very easily. This laptop is perfect for gamers, I can't to play more with it.

    Crashes Constantly

It cannot handle two graphics cards, the 960 and intel drivers clash every few minutes, the screen flashes then you see the crash/fix box, this happens again and again, i can have more then 30 crashes of this type every day. The drivers cannot easily be updated and i have spent more then 5 months in constant sending back and receiving nothing different from ASUS...i have owned computers since the early 80's and this is by far the worst one i have ever owned...there are better machines out there, do not buy an ASUS....you do not need that kind of grief.....BTW they will still not replace mine with a different model or refund me my money...do you want that kind of computer ownership? Recommend to a friend?, I wouldnt recommend to an enemy

This laptop has a issue with processor and Reaktek Gigabit network card and one of the HP gaming laptops also has the issue which causes windows error reporting to get flooded with errors unless the card is disabled quick google search of this model and you will see (doesn't actually hurt the performance any or cause instability just annoying to have to turn on and off to stop the errors). The system also does not have proper cooling for the Processor and GPU combo that is in it. If you buy a ASUS Republic of Gamer's laptop you probably want to game without it overheating, if you push this laptop's processor and graphics card at the same time it will hit 90C and throttle. I would not suggest buying this laptop if you're the kind of person who is going to use the full potential of the laptop.

    A Horrible Gaming Laptop

    Posted .
This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.

This laptop had potential; it's a reasonable price for a gaming laptop and the specs are just enough to think that it is a great laptop, but it isn't. I have returned this thing twice, once for an exchange and then for a full refund, and each one lasted less than the other. I have never had so many issues with one device. I have only one good thing to say and that it that It boots up fast and the display is great. Sadly the same can't be said for what it's meant for and that's the games. The first one I bought for few days it ran every game on high setting at a smooth 60FPS aside from those limited to 30FPS but even then those ran great. However for some reason the graphics card just refused to kick in after it crashed while tryng to run a freshly installed game, this resulted in games not even running at 30FPS even if you turn the settings down to medium, it's a slap to the face for gamers out there. So I returned it, got an exchange and proceeded to give this laptop a second try. It didn't even last a day before the issues arose. I installed Steam and some of my games and tested them, smooth 60FPS. I finished my setup (which took hours to do) and went back to play some games, I couldn't even launch them. Those that did launch ran at a horrible 15-20FPS. Contacted ASUS support, they told me to reinstall the graphics driver and it worked. Games worked well and ran at 60 like they should, until I turned it off. I came back later in the day and went to play a game and found the once again the graphics driver was giving me terrible performance. And that was the last I bothered with this laptop. My Lenovo laptop (which was what I 'upgraded' from) with an i5 and Intel HD 4400 graphics ran games better than this sorry excuse for a gaming laptop. While I was unable to pinpoint the issue, I have seen many reviews state that the two graphics cards present (Nvidia and Intel HD) clash and it causes these sudden drops and at times crashes (Only one PC crashed once from the two that I had). Not to mention that you have to troubleshoot this computer as soon as you get it out of the box. No consumer should have to troubleshoot their product as soon as they purchase it. All in all it's a rushed mess and not worth the time or money to invest in. I highly recommend you look elsewhere like MSI, Alienware, or Lenovo. The only thing this runs well is the internet browsers, MS Word and Skype.

    Great laptop for college

We wanted a laptop for my son at college and to be able to do gaming when he comes home. It is great for both. It was a great price considering it has all the right specs. It was easy to order, looks great, light to carry from class to class and easily plays the games he likes.
