Powerful but hot with a misplaced exhaust vent

The ASUS M16 series has some of the most compact yet powerful laptops available right now. This laptop has a great screen with powerful specs and is absolutely a delight to work on, but has a couple of flaws that's forcing me to return this and perhaps wait for the Legion 7 Slim 2022 laptops to become available. This laptop heats up a lot. With mild tasks in silent mode, the CPU temperature reaches 70C very frequently and the top region of the keyboard (and the backside too) feels really hot. I'm not sure what impact does this high temperature have on the longevity of the components. Secondly, the compact design of the laptop with a 16 inch, 16:10 screen has a vent at the front that directly exhausts hot air to the bottom region of the screen. I'm not sure what effect does it have on the long term performance of the display. Also, the battery life is 4-5 hours for mild tasks, and not even close to 10 hours as claimed by ASUS.

Overall this is a solid gaming laptop, nice RGB, nice having volume control buttons on the keyboard and pretty decent speakers. I really wanted to keep this especially since it was Asus, but a few things turned me off. 1.) You have to charge for 3 hours before first use (I did 3 and a half to be safe) after the first few days the charger would only say "plugged in" and not charge at all and slowly dying to below 63% before I returned it. 2) the display is 1920 x 1200 instead of 1920 x 1080 (personal preference) 3) Integrated graphics, you can not turn off even when you go into the bios so you can't take advantage of "DLSS or reflex" because you cant make the 3050 ti primary. Unless you connect it to monitor or TV. I spent a whole day trying to get this figured out with, Intel, Nvidia and Asus no luck. Outside of the battery issue, if the other stuff I mentioned doesn't matter this was a really solid laptop, but just didn't live up to my gaming needs. So i went with the "Omen 16-b0013dx" Has a 3060, has display I want and you can change the primary GPU in the bios, was only 100 more when I bought it and I haven't looked back.

    BEST GAMING LAPTOP 2022

Starting off, this laptop is fantastic. I use it for school, work, and gaming when I'm on the go. The display blows me away even at the 1080p resolution. The IPS panel is bright, sharp, very responsive, and has a stunning 16:10 ratio. The computer is very fast bootup especially with the fingerprint reader. Keyboard is great, camera is good enough. Wish it had more storage but I got this on an amazing open box sale so I'm okay with it for now. I see A LOT of people comparing this with the G15. Hands down go with the m16 over the g15 mainly because of the display. I went into a best buy and looked at them side by side and immediately knew which one I wanted. It is also very lightweight considering the power it has and I have no issue carrying it anywhere. I like this more than my m1 macbook air because I can run intel based VMs on it via virtual box ZERO issues for school. I can also hook it up to more than one monitor should i choose to do so (WHICH YOU CANT ON APPLE M1, APPLE TRY USING YOUR BRAINS WHEN DESIGNING YOUR MACS). Also it does run hot when running games, which is why you want to use a controller, but in silent mode the computer has zero issues. I would recommend undervolting the CPU as much as you can. My computer ran at -80 with no crashing or issues. The battery life is good enough although obviously not as long as macs. I don't mind because I'm typically plugged in and even when I'm not it's at most for a few hours. Battery life I'm seeing is around 5-7 hours. Overall on sale this is a no brainer. I could've gone with the 2022 model but i was looking at a $500 increase just for mux, an improved processor, and more storage which just isn't worth it to me.

I love this laptop! It's got plenty of power for everything that i like it need to do. I got this laptop instead of a gaming console because of the versatility. I can do my school work and all types of other business on it, as well as play any and all games with plenty of power to spare. I would def recomend tp anyone who is all business but likes to gsme hard as .well

first gaming laptop buyer, overall I really like it, i get over 200 fps playing valorant, 140ish on fortnite and around 70 on warzone. screen with 16:10 is really nice. only negatives are sometimes the trackpad acts funky but is very rare. lately ive notices aura keyboard effect goes out of sync, reboot usually fixes it. would reccomend

so far so good. it really pumps out some heat on games. it really does the job tho. screen is easier to see than other laptops in high sunlight. battery so far for me only lasts up to 2 hours ish. idk if thats normal or not. but it is awesome. borderlands 3, battlefield 1, world of tanks, fortnite, and day to day tasks; this pc handles it all with ease. great buy. i recommend fully

This is an overall good laptop with a decent screen. It comes with 3050 ti which can play most games with average settings. However, it occasionally makes a loud fan noise when playing any video or using multiple chrome tabs. The fan noise is more audible than any 2021 Zephyrus laptop when gaming.

She’s a beaut! Customizable, easy to look at, runs very well. My old HP was dying on me so I replaced it with a high spec laptop so I could eventually get into gaming after I finished grad school. I got a little worried when it shut down randomly and wouldn’t come on again just a few days after using it, but a hard reset fixed her right up and I haven’t had an issue since.

Nice light and portable. The battery is significantly better than I was expecting. I was a little disappointed with the keyboard lighting choices as I've still not found a way to customize yet. I ended up going with this one because it was being sold pretty low and the next step up would have been almost $800 more which I don't feel like going from a 3050ti to a 3060 is really worth that much. One problem that I've been having is the software that tracks the battery level. When I first boot up, the software says that there's like less than an hour left of battery life at almost 50% battery. Gave me a bit of a shock when I saw that but if you give it about 10 minutes then it goes up to display a more reasonable amount. Not deal-breaking but really annoying because I use it for college and frequently turn it on and off. One last gripe, there isn't a num pad on it and I hate that. at 16" you'd think there would be enough room for one but I guess not.

This laptop is great at playing all my games. Just don't expect to play AAA games at the highest settings. Battery life okay averaging about 5.5 hours on iGPU mode doing regulars browsing and writing. RGB keyboard is customizable with various settings. Overall a great portable gaming laptop.
