it's great and all but where's the SSD?

this laptop was my first gaming laptop. honestly, i have always owned macbooks but overwatch wouldn't work on my macbook pro even after bootcamping it... regardless, it's great at playing overwatch. why four stars, though? for as much as your spending, it doesn't even have an SSD? in this NEED IT NOW day in age we live in, it seems ridiculous (to me) that new, gaming laptops don't have SSDs. sure, 1tb is great and all but... time is money, friend. i upgraded to a SSD. everything was really easy to open up and replace. there's even room to mount the original HDD so you don't have to skimp on storage to have quick load times.
in regards to looks, the laptop is pretty space age-y. i am pretty sure i could straddle it and fly to the moon. it's heavy and the product description says it's portable? well, w/ my wimpy, gaming arms, it's pretty darn heavy.
tl;dr
you need to get a SSD.
the laptop could be mistaken for a droid in a star wars movie.
great laptop.

Great Laptop for Gaming

I have had this laptop for about 3 months now and it has run great! I have run multiple 1P Shooter games on this and not one runs under 60 fps, and most run at an average of 75 fps. Love the expandable RAM and storage.
The design is really cool and, although it is rather heavy for a laptop, it is still really easy to carry. The only bad thing about this laptop is that it only fits a couple of backpacks and really none (or so I think) at best buy.

I bought this laptop earlier, yes earlier! lol it's probably too soon to write a review. But anyways, this is a great laptop, 16gb of memory, Nvidia Geforce GTX 965m (which isn't bad) and a TB of HDD. It also on 7200 rpm, which is much better than 5400. Although, I upgraded the HDD on this with a 960 ssd Sandisk also from best buy, and it's working wonders. Enough for my casual gaming, and photo editing. great buy.

Purchased laptop about 2 months ago for school related CFD/CAD applications. Had a great experience with Best Buy, as always. Highly impressed with most laptop features, including the back-lit keyboard, screen quality, and speakers.
Cons: only 2 of 4 RAM slots are accessible without taking the entire case apart, the battery is equally inaccessible, the HDD is 7200rpm instead of solid state, how to replace the keyboard is not intuitive, and getting the battery to charge when the laptop is plugged in and running has been a pain in the neck.
I am neutral about recommending this laptop to a friend.

...is so slow it seems! Most of us are definitely acclimated and complacent with SSD drives! Note; you can upgrade your new laptop to SSD. Other than that, I'm really enjoying this even though I just bought it yesterday, but I'll update this review. I would also like to mention that I never need to ask the sales associates any questions as I do all my homework prior to purchase. But i was @ Best Buy, East Tucson Arizona location, a sales associate named Wade was the best sales associate I have ever dealt with on those rare occasions to consult with a future doctor, lawyer, etc. at Best Buy! This young man is going somewhere in this life that's for sure!!! Don't hesitate to consider this gaming laptop as what are your top three choices when shopping. Thanks Best Buy!

The ASUS G752VL is not reliable.

I've heard and read of tons of good things about ASUS, and I want to believe the brand is one of the best, but it is almost like this computer cannot handle multitasking which doesn't make sense with the specs it has. I gave it two stars, because if I would have known the problems I'm having now with this computer I wouldn't have gotten it. I thought it was just going to need updating. I'm not happy with this purchase. For me, right now the cons outweigh the pros. When I first got the computer I had to delete the WiFi card driver (thank goodness for bloggers with the same problem and Google) and reinstall a generic Intel driver because the WiFi was so slow. (Fiber internet speed test with "installed driver" 5 mbps DL/5 mbps UL. With the "generic Intel driver" 339 mbps DL/315 mbps UL)
Just about every time I turn the computer on and try to open the Edge Explorer it appears like it will open, but it just gets stuck with the Edge symbol on the screen. I then have to close the Edge window and try to reopen it. If that doesn't work, I try to open the Edge again, and if it continues to fail (its about a 50/50 chance it will) I have to restart the whole computer. Which takes about five minutes. Other times when the I don't use the Edge Explorer, I expect to have to restart the laptop at least once while I am using it because for some reason the laptop will quit responding. By not responding I mean the cursor moves, and I can close a window by clicking on the X, but when I try to click on the screen to make the program do another function, there is no response. I can close the program with the X, but I cannot reopen it or ANY other icons on the computer screen, none of the icons will open the program or even respond. So I have to go through whole process of restarting the computer. I also have had the lighting from the back-lit keyboard quit working. In order to get the back-lit part keyboard working again I had to restart the computer. If I let the computer sit to long and it goes to sleep and I come back to use the computer the WiFi doesn't work, or if I put the computer in sleep mode and wake it back up I have to restart it to get everything to work again, including the WiFi and the Edge Explorer. I know I'm repeating myself, but these are the thing that keep happening.
I bought this computer because of the specs and I am not a hard core gamer. The specs kinda future proofed this computer for me so I could upgrade and wouldn't have to get another computer for years. I haven't seen any big performance differences between my home computer (5+ years old) and the ASUS G752. I use it for photo/video editing, burning the final product to DVD, (nothing to complex either) and surfing the internet. I've had the photo editing program crash too. I haven't used the video editing program on this computer to know yet. To me, I don't think any of the processes I do are to demanding. I'm not banging on the keyboard or stressing all the components because of gaming I wanted the ASUS G752 to last for several years so I would not have to get another computer, Unfortunately, I feel like this laptop is unreliable. I planned to use the ASUS G752 to run simulations for promotional testing where I work. It is extremely critical that the computer doesn't crash, freeze or stop responding like I mentioned above. My 5 year old Dell laptop doesn't have the problems mentioned above and it has the same software programs. Right now my Dell is reliable, and I will probably have to use it, unless I can figure out what to do fix the ASUS G752. (I'm hoping I can)
I sometimes wonder if this is a Windows 10 issue, or is it another factory installed software or driver issue. The problems started right out of the box. So, I'm confident it's not anything I've done. I thought and hope it may need updating and maybe that is still the case. I'm just not smart enough to figure out where to start.
I feel bad bashing ASUS like this, but this how the laptop is and paying so much money for something not working correctly is very disappointing. My son has a 3 year old ASUS hand-me-down laptop that works great and has no issues. So I know ASUS makes a good product. I just want mine to work as it should.
If I can get the laptop to function correctly, I will update this review accordingly.
I know this is a review but if anyone knows what to do, please comment. Thanks
